Report: Jets RT Chuma Edoga out multiple weeks with MCL sprain

Jets rookie right tackle Chuma Edoga will be out for mutiple weeks after suffering a Grade 2 MCL Sprain in the Jets 34-3 win over Oakland.

Rookie right tackle Chuma Edoga left the Jets’ 34-3 win over the Raiders with a knee injury. Now, he’ll miss significant time.

Following the win, Edoga came into the locker room with a brace on his left leg, according to Connor Hughes of The Athletic. Edoga went for an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of the injury

Now, the Jets will be without Edoga for an extended period of time due to a Grade 2 MCL sprain, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

Edoga was the Jets’ third-round pick out of USC in the 2019 NFL draft. He took over as a starter in Week 5 and has played eight games at both tackle positions due to the Jets’ constant reshuffling on the offensive line.

The Jets have had to play musical chairs on the offensive line due to injuries. Ryan Kalil and Brian Winters are both out for the season, while Kelechi Osemele is no longer on the team.

With Edoga sidelined, Brandon Shell will slide back in at right tackle, while the banged-up Kelvin Beachum (ankle) will continue to man the left side. If he cannot go against Cincinnati in Week 13, Conor McDermott is the next man up on the Jets depth chart.

Jets vs. Raiders inactives: No surprises for New York in Week 12

Jets vs. Raiders inactives report for Week 12.

The Jets are relatively healthy heading into their Week 12 showdown with the Oakland Raiders.

No surprises popped up on New York’s inactives report on Sunday, as offensive linemen Chuma Edoga and Kelvin Beachum will suit up as expected despite being listed as questionable throughout the week. The same applies to Henry Anderson, Brandon Copeland, Neville Hewitt, Alex Lewis, Steve McLendon and Demaryius Thomas.

Darryl Roberts, Mathias Farley, Paul Worrilow and C.J. Mosley are all out as expected.

Sunday marks Roberts’ third consecutive missed game while, special teams ace Farley misses his first of the season and Worrilow remains on the sideline as he works his way back into shape.

As for the Raiders, they’ll be without starting cornerback/safety hybrid Lamarcus Joyner. Joyner made the trip to New York with the team, but will ultimately miss his second consecutive game due to a hamstring injury. Oakland is also without offensive lineman David Sharpe, who was ruled out early in the week with a calf injury.

Jets injury report: Chuma Edoga, Kelvin Beachum questionable vs. Raiders

Chuma Edoga and Kelvin Beachum are both listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Raiders.

After an initial injury scare with both Chuma Edoga and Kelvin Beachum, both should be good to go on Sunday against the Raiders.

Edoga (ankle/knee) and Beachum (ankle) are listed as questionable, as Edoga was limited in practice the last two days after not practicing on Wednesday. Beachum was limited the whole week. Meanwhile, Henry Anderson (shoulder), Brandon Copeland (hip/thumb), Neville Hewitt (neck/knee), Alex Lewis (elbow/shoulder), Steve McLendon (neck) and Demaryius Thomas (hamstring) are all questionable, but expected to play.

Darryl Roberts (calf), Mathias Farley (quad) and Paul Worrilow (quad) are listed as doubtful. C.J. Mosley (groin) is out as expected.

Adam Gase’s Kelvin Beachum comments exemplify what he values

Adam Gase might be known as an offensive mind looking to light up the scoreboard, but he’s also a guy who values heart and determination.

Adam Gase doesn’t come across as an old-school coach who places an emphasis on physical play and grit. Given some of the offenses he has orchestrated over the years, it’s easy to understand why that’s a thought.

In Denver, Gase oversaw an offensive attack that broke records through the air. With Peyton Manning spreading the ball around to the likes of Demaryius and Julius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and C.J. Anderson out of the backfield, not much thought was given to a bruising rushing attack or the Broncos’ play in the trenches.

Don’t be fooled by Gase’s past offenses, though. As it turns out, heart and determination are what open his eyes more than anything else.

Jets left tackle Kelvin Beachum has been banged up all season. He has injured his ankle multiple times and has been forced to miss a couple of games. Considering what Beachum has endured this season and how long he has been in the league, he would have every right to worry about his body before the team. Playing in the trenches for nearly a decade is grueling and takes a heavy toll.

Instead, the veteran has battled the pain and done everything in his power to stay on the field.

“My respect level for him is extremely high for what he’s endured,” Gase said on Wednesday. “He refuses to be held out of practice. He’s stepped up big time for them.”

Beachum isn’t the only Jet who has earned Gase’s respect with his perseverance this season. Before landing on season-ending injured reserve, Brian Winters played through shoulder and knee injuries. With the severity of both injuries, Winters could have elected to get surgery and nobody would’ve batted an eye. That was never an option for the veteran guard, though. He’d rather be dragged off the field kicking and screaming than give in to an injury.

“He’s putting duct tape all over his body right now,” Gase said in October. “But he’s fighting through it. He’s giving us everything he’s got.”

Compare how glowingly Gase speaks of Beachum and Winters to the coach’s comments on Kelechi Osemele before he was released. The Osemele situation, combined with Gase’s words regarding Beachum and Winters leaving everything they have on the field, have provided clarity into what Gase really looks for in his players.

He’ll forever be known as an offensive mind looking to light up the scoreboard, but don’t undersell Gase’s affinity for grit. Quarterbacks lead the charge, but sometimes, it is the men in the trenches that form the pulse of a team.

It is now abundantly clear that Gase is well aware of that.

Adam Gase unsure if C.J. Mosley will return

Jets head coach Adam Gase is not sure if C.J. Mosley will play again this season.

Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley might not be back on the football field until 2020.

Adam Gase spoke to the media on Wednesday and was asked what Mosley’s status is for the rest of the season. Gase said he doesn’t really have an answer to that and that Mosley is going through the process of his rehab. The initial diagnosis was that Mosley would be out at least six weeks, but groin injuries are tricky. He suffered this injury back in Week 1 and tried coming back in Week 7, but ultimately re-injured his groin.

In other injury news, both Chuma Edoga (ankle/knee) and Darryl Roberts (calf) did not practice on Wednesday. Kelvin Beachum (ankle) was limited.

Jets injury report: Kelvin Beachum injures ankle again

Jets offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum re-injured his ankle on Sunday against the Redskins.

The Jets offensive line took a couple of hits at both tackle positions this week.

Adam Gase spoke to the media on Monday and said that offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum hurt his ankle again after suffering an injury a few weeks ago. However, Gase said it’s different from his last injury and there’s a chance Beachum can practice this week in preparation for the Raiders.

As for Chuma Edoga, he had an MRI on what is being described as a knee/ankle injury. Gase is optimistic about him playing on Sunday as well.

Other than that, the Jets came out injury-free from Sunday’s win over the Redskins.

Jets OT Kelvin Beachum named Week 10 NFLPA Community MVP

Kelvin Beachum was named the Week 10 NFLPA Community MVP.

Jets offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum continues to do his part in helping out his community.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Beachum was named the Week 10 NFLPA Community MVP for donating $10,000 to the United Way of Greater Newark and also setting up a drive that generated 26,000 bottles of clean water for residents in need. He personally delivered many of them.

Beachum has always been one of the best in the league when it comes to giving back to the community. Last season, he was nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. He has worked with organizations that want to create technology-related solutions to ending world hunger and provide clean water for everyone around the world.

When Beachum was with the Steelers, he would often bring meals from their practice facility and give it to the homeless.

Beachum has always prided himself on his charitable works and feels it’s important to try and make a difference in the world. So while the Jets may not be doing great on the football field, they can always count on Beachum to do the right thing in the community.

Jets OT Kelvin Beachum reaches out to NFLPA on Quincy Enunwa’s behalf

New York Jets offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum is supporting Quincy Enunwa after the Jets fined him for missing treatment.

As it turns out, Quincy Enunwa isn’t the only person at One Jets Drive who is unhappy with the fine New York issued him for missing treatment.

Kelvin Beachum, who is a player representative for the Jets, reached out to the NFL Players Association on Friday to see if Enunwa has any possible recourse to dispute his fine. Enunwa publicized his fine on Twitter on Thursday night, posting a picture of a television screen displaying his fine for everyone in team facilities to see.

“[The union] will put some things in place to see what’s the course of action,” Beachum said.

Beachum, who has played in the NFL for eight years, said he has never seen a team post fines and make them visible to all players. Gase’s public posting of fines is a practice that dates back to his days as Dolphins head coach.

“We handle our stuff in-house and some people choose to use social media,” Gase said when asked about Enunwa’s unhappiness. “There’s probably a reason they’re doing that.”

According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, players typically don’t have many options for recourse when fighting a team fine as opposed to a league-issued fine.

Since Christopher Johnson announced that Gase would return in 2020, a handful of Jets have come out and supported their head coach. Enunwa and Beachum’s actions show that not everyone in the locker room is on board with how Gase is managing the team right now, though.

Demaryius Thomas among 6 unsung heroes from Jets’ win over Giants

Sam Darnold and Jamal Adams deserve all the credit for the win, but these veterans and rookies stepped up in a huge way in the Jets’ win.

The Jets’ 34-27 win over the Giants was a team effort. Almost everyone chipped in to help the Jets earn their second victory of the season, especially with an injury-riddled roster.

Sam Darnold and Jamal Adams deserve most of the credit for the win, but there were plenty of other players that helped at various positions on the field. Players stepped up for injured teammates or bad play and immediately contributed on both sides of the ball. A couple rookies even stood out.

Here are six unsung heroes from the Jets’ Week 10 win.
