Oregon Ducks center Kel’el Ware leads USA U18 National Team to victory over D.R.

Incoming freshman Kel’el Ware scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Team USA U18 National Team in their win over DR on Monday.

The future is bright for Dana Altman and the Oregon Ducks men’s basketball program, and fans need to look no further than the FIBA U18 men’s national team to see that.

Oregon incoming freshman center Kel’el Ware started for Team USA in their first game against the Dominican Republic on Monday, and he dropped a team-high 17 points with nine rebounds in the 116-48 victory.

Ware was one of two Oregon commits named to USA Basketball Junior National Teams, as incoming women’s recruit Grace VanSlooten is representing the Ducks on the Women’s U18 National Team as well.

Ware is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 6 player in the class of 2022, and many believe he will be a one-and-done lottery pick in the 2023 NBA draft after a strong season in Eugene.

First, Ware gets to pick up extremely valuable experience playing high level basketball with some of the country’s most impactful incoming freshmen, including Arkansas’ Anthony Black, Stanford’s Kanaan Carlyle, and Duke’s Jared McCain.

There’s little doubt this experience will make him even more prepared to have an outstanding season in Eugene, adding more fuel to the recent rankings which include Oregon as a potential top-20 team next year.

Incoming freshmen Kel’el Ware and Dior Johnson try out for Team USA U18 squad

Incoming freshmen Ke’lel Ware and Dior Johnson try out for Team USA U18 squad in Houston next month.

Fans of the Oregon Ducks men’s basketball team is going to get a sneak preview of what’s to come in the 2022-23 season with a pair of incoming freshmen trying out for the Team USA U18 squad.

Guard Dior Johnson and center Kel’el Ware will attempt to make the prestigious roster as they practice for the men’s U-18 FIBA Americas Championship. The tryouts will be held in Houston from May 26-June 2.

Ultimately, Team USA will have 12 players and once the team is announced, they’ll travel to Tijuana, Mexico for the Americas Championship tournament June 6-12.

The 7-foot Ware is a potential one-and-done player for the Ducks as he is projected to be a high first-round NBA draft pick. As for Johnson, he is also a potential one-and-done talent, but it’s very possible he’s at Oregon for longer than his freshman season. At 6-3, Johnson is a point guard that is expected to be in the starting lineup immediately, assuming Will Richardson leaves for a professional career.

Colorado’s Tad Boyle will be the head coach for Team USA.

Watch: Oregon signee Kel’el Ware ups NBA draft stock, turns heads at McDonald’s All-American game

Kel’el Ware did what players are supposed to do at the McDonald’s All-American game: Turn heads and impress scouts.

[jwplayer sCqrkxr8]

The McDonald’s All-American game is designed to showcase the best high school basketball players in the nation and give them a platform to display what they can do at the next level and increase their value to potential NBA scouts down the road.

For Oregon Ducks’ 2022 signee Kel’el Ware, a 5-star center who stands at 7-feet-0 inches, the week of festivities certainly acted as a jumping-off point.

[lawrence-related id=21765]

Ware, who is ranked by 247Sports as the 8th best player in the 2022 class, used his time at the all-star game to impress the many NBA scouts in town and show what he can bring to the Ducks next season. With an impressive showing in the game and solid workouts throughout the week, Ware seemed to solidify the idea that he will likely be a one-and-done player in Eugene, and could be looking at a place in the NBA draft lottery in 2023.

The rest of Oregon’s 2022 recruiting class should not be overlooked, with 5-star Dior Johnson coming to town with JUCO stars Tyrone Williams and Brennan Rigsby. When Ware talked to media members on Monday, he discussed just what that group of players can achieve with the Ducks in the future. However, plays like this have many conversations coming back to just exactly what Ware can do at Oregon.

Despite his recruiting ranking, many analysts seem to be thinking of Ware as one of the best players in his class, and the impact that he will have in Eugene next season is going to be fascinating to watch. Dana Altman has a real player coming to the Ducks.

‘We’re gonna do great things;’ 5-star Oregon signee Kel’el Ware preview time with Ducks

Kel’el Ware seems confident that lining him up next to Dior Johnson, Tyrone Williams, and Brennan Rigsby is going to be successful in Eugene.

[jwplayer sCqrkxr8]

On Tuesday night, the McDonald’s All-American game tips off, giving some of the best men’s and women’s basketball players in the nation a chance to showcase their talents and give a preview for what is to come when they hit the floor at the next level.

For fans of the Oregon Ducks, 2022 signee Kel’el Ware was named to the team, as were both Change Gray and Grace VanSlooten. Ware was asked on Tuesday to preview his time at Oregon and quickly discuss what he and the other members of the class โ€” Dior Johnson, Tyrone Williams, and Brennan Rigsby โ€” are going to bring to the table for the Ducks next season.

“We’re going to to great things,” Ware said. “Just with me, Dior, you’ve got T-Will coming in, and then you’ve got Brennan โ€” I feel like with him being able to shoot, and then T-Will being able to slash, and he’s got a shot on him too as well. Dior being a floor general, and then me at the big, it’s just, I feel like we’re going to be able to do great things.”

Johnson is a fellow 5-star recruit who is ranked as the No. 4 point guard in the nation, and No. 23 player overall. Williams is ranked as the No. 2 JUCO transfer this season, and Rigsby is coming off of a JUCO national championship where he led his team in scoring with 24 points in the final game.

The current roster at Oregon is in a bit of a flux with some unknowns about whether players are staying or leaving, but it’s clear through all of it that the incoming talent is going to be special in Eugene.

On April 30, two-dozen of the biggest high school basketball stars will gather in Memphis to participate in the Iverson Classic – a prominent showcase event put together by NBA Hall of Famer Allen Iverson.

A pair of players from Oregon’s 2022 recruiting class are set to participate in the event – guard Dior Johnson and center Kel’el Ware.

[lawrence-related id=17395]

Johnson (4) and Ware (10) are both five-star recruits rated inside the top 10 in their class according to 247Sports, giving Dana Altman some incredible reinforcements as soon as next season.

Johnson has drawn comparisons to Sacramento’s De’Aron Fox for his instincts, athleticism, and finishing ability around the rim. He committed to Oregon out of Southern California, fending off offers from big-name schools like Syracuse, Arizona State, and Alabama.

Ware is from Little Rock, Arkansas and was wooed heavily by Auburn, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Kansas, Memphis, and many others before deciding to head to Eugene.

While Johnson and Ware will be teammates for at least one season starting next year, they will be facing each other in the Iverson Classic – with Johnson on Team Loyalty against Ware and the rest of Team Honor.

Oregon Ducks 2022 5-star Kel’el Ware named to McDonald’s All-American team

Oregon Ducks’ signee Kel’el Ware, the No. 10 player in the nation, was named to the 2022 McDonald’s All-American team.

The Oregon Ducks basketball team has an incredibly intriguing 2022 recruiting class, and one of the marquee signees of that class, 5-star center Kel’el Ware, recently was named to the 2022 McDonald’s All-American Team, where he will compete in an all-star game against the best players in all of the nation.

Ware is a 7-foot, 210-pound center from Little Rock, Arkansas, who has been having an impressive senior season thus far. Ranked as the No. 3 center, and No. 10 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class, Ware will join a crop of freshmen that includes 5-star Dior Johnson (No. 4 PG, No. 23 player), and Tyrone Williams, the No. 2 JUCO player in the nation.

The 2022 McDonaldโ€™s All-American game will take place on March 29 in Wintrsut Arena.

Five star center Kel’el Ware commits to Oregon

Five-star center Kel’el Ware becomes the latest commitment for Dana Altman, who is building a formidable front line.

As if Dana Altman’s Oregon Ducks basketball team wasn’t scary enough entering the 2022-23 season, he goes ahead and adds a member of the House of El.

Maybe five-star center Kel’el Ware isn’t Superman, but he is the No. 3 center in the Class of 2022 according to 247sports.com, will be joining what is already a big and talented squad.

The Little Rock, Ark. native, had scholarship offers from nearly everyone down south including Arkansas, Texas, and Memphis. Not only is he one of the best centers in the country, but he’s the No. 15 overall recruit in the nation.

Ware becomes the second recruit of the ’22 class to commit to Oregon. The country’s No. 1 point guard, Dior Johnson, had given Altman his verbal commitment in June.

This is what Rivals.com Jamie Shaw said of the Ducks’ newest commit.

Ware walks on the floor with legit size and with great length. He moves well and has natural timing while blocking shots and around the rim. He has recently started showing touch, extending out the three. As Ware continues to get his motor running and figures out his offensive game there is a lot of upside as the frame is just too good to overlook.

With Johnson and Ware, the 2022-23 Ducks are looking to be a formidable power not only in the Pac-12 but in the country. Oregon will have a huge front line consisting of five different 6-foot-11centers to choose from in N’Faly Dante, Franck Kepnang, Isaac Johnson, and Nathan Bittle.

Just add Ware to that mix and no team is going to even dare to drive to the hoop.
