Exploring Spurs forward Keldon Johnson’s new sneaker line

Johnson has his own sneaker line that has been getting plenty of attention in recent days.

So far this season, the man getting the most attention on the San Antonio Spurs’ roster has been French rookie forward phenom Victor Wembanyama, and justifiably so given what we have seen from the 7-footer.

But Wemby is not the only member of the Spurs who has his own thing going on. It turns out that forward Keldon Johnson has his own sneaker line that has been getting plenty of attention in recent days. The host of the “Alamo City Sportscast,” Mike Jimenez, recently sat down with Jeff Garcia, host of the “Locked On Spurs” podcast, to talk all things Spurs from the Las Vegas location of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what the two had to say about Johnson’s new line of kicks, as well as the sights and sounds of the tourney.

Keldon Johnson: Spurs looking to ‘make the games dogfights’

Keldon Johnson says that the San Antonio Spurs are looking to “muck it up” during the final stretch of the season.

As the San Antonio Spurs prepare for the second half of the season, hopes of making a push for the playoffs have likely gone out the window. Obviously, the presence of Victor Wembanyama, a generational talent and the future of the franchise, has numbed some of the frustration of losing, but still, losing isn’t fun.

So, with the entire rest of the season still in front of them following the All-Star break, the Spurs have to reset expectations and find new ways to get up for games. One of those ways will be to make life as difficult as possible for every single opponent that stands in their way.

Keldon Johnson says that they plan to “muck it up” for their final games of the year. (H/t Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News)

“We’re looking to muck it up these last 27 games,” Johnson said. “Get into people, make the games dogfights.”

The Spurs may not be a postseason squad, but they want to be very annoying. And that should be fun to watch.

Spurs’ Keldon Johnson floated as potential Knicks trade idea

San Antonio Spurs forward Keldon Johnson was mentioned as a potential trade fit for the New York Knicks.

Heading into the February 8 trade deadline, the San Antonio Spurs have been playing solid basketball. They still aren’t winning a ton of games, but they’ve been staying competitive in a lot of contests against playoff-caliber teams. And while they may not be in the market to make a big-time move, they could still look to make minor tweaks to the roster.

It seems more likely than not that they stand pat at the deadline, but trading a veteran or two would make sense, as would exploring a potential deal for an upgrade at the point guard position in an attempt to help the development of Victor Wembanyama.

However, while it may be unlikely, Sam Quinn of CBS Sports thinks Keldon Johnson’s removal from the starting lineup could mean he’s not untouchable. He even dubbed him as a potential fit with the New York Knicks.

“It seems unlikely that any of the older veterans would net much from contenders, but what about Keldon Johnson?” Quinn wrote. “He seems like a possible “Knicks bench scorer” solution, especially since he’s big enough to play forward unlike most of their targets. The Spurs won’t trade Johnson for the sake of trading him, but the fact that he’s fallen out of the starting lineup suggests that he’s at least available for the right price.”

Adding Johnson would definitely bolster the Knicks’ hopes of a deep playoff run, providing them with an extra shot creator. San Antonio could look to get back Evan Fournier, a young asset, and draft capital, should they actually show any interest in a deal.

Keldon Johnson breaks down bat incident in Spurs-Timberwolves game

After the San Antonio Spurs’ win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Keldon Johnson spoke about the bat incident.

On Saturday night, the Minnesota Timberwolves were in town to take on the San Antonio Spurs. The Anthony Edwards-led Timberwolves, who now sit in second place in the Western Conference, had lost two of their last four games. Meanwhile, the Spurs were riding the high of a win and looking to complete their second two-game win streak of the season.

Led by Devin Vassell and Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs were able to take home a 113-112 win over the Timberwolves, as Karl-Anthony Towns missed what would have been the game-winning shot. However, nothing that happened in the game was the star of the night.

Just two minutes into the game, with Manu Ginobili in attendance, ironically enough, a bat flew out onto the floor of Frost Bank Center. Play was called off as The Coyote ran out to try and catch the bat. Once he succeeded, the game got back underway.

After the contest, Keldon Johnson spoke about the incident.

“I know my lane,” Johnson said via ESPN. “Like, I’m borderline scared of the dark … so, the bat? That’s something like, nah, that ain’t really up my alley. I was more scared.”

Everyone on the floor was entertained by The Coyote’s festivities and eventual capture of the bat. That said, nobody went anywhere near it for fear of having to go through the same Rabies shots Ginobili had to endure after he swatted it down.

Vassell led the Spurs in scoring with 25 points, four rebounds, and five assists while Wembanyama put up 23 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists.

Wembanyama, Spurs teammates getting new string of H-E-B commercials

H-E-B is releasing a new string of commcercials that will feature San Antonio Spurs players, highlighted by Victor Wembanyama.

Though they haven’t been winning many games this season, the San Antonio Spurs have plenty of things to be excited about. Victor Wembanyama is the headlining story coming out of San Antonio, but on top of that, they have a great group of youngsters such as Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, and Keldon Johnson.

The last time the Spurs were relevant enough to make national news on a nightly basis, which is the case with Wembanyama at the helm, it was Tim Duncan and company leading the charge. And when they were in town, they were so popular that they had a string of commercials for H-E-B, a Texas-based grocery store.

Well, it looks like Wembanyama and his teammates are going to be getting the same star treatment. H-E-B is releasing a new string of commercials that will feature a bunch of current Spurs players.

They have already released two featuring Wembanyama, Vassell, Sochan, and Johnson, and there will likely be more to come moving forward.

The impact Wembanyama has had on the San Antonio market is vast, as he’s bringing a ton of attention to a team that hasn’t been in the spotlight in years.

Not only that, but he has the talent to carry this team into the future. If they can put the right talent around him, they should be able to compete for some deep playoff runs with Wembanyama leading the charge.

For now, they’ll settle for some national exposure and funny commercials, but Wembanyama and the Spurs are coming.

Keldon Johnson shows serious love to Spurs teammate Devin Vassell

San Antonio Spurs forward Keldon Johnson recently praised Devin Vassell.

The San Antonio Spurs have been dealing with a ton of losing this season. Despite the presence of Victor Wembanyama, they just haven’t been able to get in the win column as often as they’d like. They currently sit at 5-30 on the year, and three of their wins were in the first couple of weeks of the season.

Wembanyama has been putting together a great rookie campaign, but some of the pieces around him have been solid, too. More than anyone, Devin Vassell has turned into an absolute star. He looks like he has the potential to be a perfect co-star next to Wembanyama moving forward.

Vassell recently poured in his second 30-point game of the season in the Spurs’ loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Keldon Johnson praised Vassell for his play, but he wasn’t surprised.

“I know I say this every time,” Johnson said via Matt Guzman of Inside the Spurs. “But it does not surprise me when Devin makes shots because Devin is one of the hardest workers I know. I can do nothing but smile because I know he is putting in the hard work to be successful.”

In addition, head coach Gregg Popovich showed love to Vassell.

“He was spectacular,” Popovich said of his performance against the Spurs. “His aggressiveness is what we have been looking for. We tried to kind of convince him that he sells himself short if he just thinks of himself as a shooter. He has so much more.”

Vassell has been awesome this year, and Spurs fans should he excited to have him around heading into the future.

Potential ‘buzz’ around Spurs’ Keldon Johnson ahead of trade deadline

As the trade deadline appraches, San Antonio Spurs forward Keldon Johnson could be a name to keep an eye on.

When asked about potential trades earlier this season, Gregg Popovich made a joke out of it. “Get a vet or two and go win a championship this year?” Popovich said sarcastically. “I’m going to go think about that.” The San Antonio Spurs are just 5-29 on the season. A playoff run doesn’t seem to be in the cards.

That said, there could be some moves to be made to help them plan for the future. Victor Wembanyama looks like a clear franchise centerpiece, and Devin Vassell has the tools to be a solid second option. The question is, what players could they be willing to trade at the deadline this season?

During a recent appearance on “Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective,” NBA insider Marc J. Spears of Andscape stated that a name he keeps hearing is Keldon Johnson. (H/t Will Miller of The Smoking Cuban)

“You know who I got my eye on with the Spurs? Keldon Johnson,” Spears said. “I keep hearing this buzz about [him]. Not sure if he fits in well with this group going forward, and should he be coming off the bench?”

Johnson has been having a solid season this year but was recently moved to the bench. He’s averaging 17.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.8 assists while shooting 45.7% from the field and 33.9% from behind the three-point line.

The 24-year-old makes $20 million this season – a very tradable contract. Plus, he makes $19 million next year and $17.5 million in each of the two seasons after that.

For any team looking to add a quality player on a cost-controlled contract, Johnson could be an ideal target.

Keldon Johnson opens up about move to Spurs bench: ‘It’s what my team needs’

After being moved to the bench, San Antonio Spurs forward Keldon Johnson gave his thoughts on the decision.

It’s been a rough season for the San Antonio Spurs, as, despite the presence of star rookie Victor Wembanyama, they just haven’t been able to find the win column as much as many expected. Wembanyama is certainly a bright spot, but even his impressive talent hasn’t been what the Spurs needed.

Gregg Popovich has tried out Jeremy Sochan at the point guard spot, removed him, and changed the starting lineup here and there, but he finally made a major move. Keldon Johnson is now a part of the bench unit, and he has been for the past three games, the latest of which was a Spurs win.

When asked about the move, Johnson kept it real, saying that he’s willing to do whatever Popovich thinks is best for the team.

“It’s what my team needs,” Johnson said via Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News. “When he told me it’s what we needed, it was OK.”

Johnson emphasized that he’s more than willing to put the team first. Always.

“If that’s what we need and that’s what we’re going to try, then that’s what we’re going to do,” Johnson said. “I don’t have an ego about it.”

In his first two games off the bench, Johnson poured in 16 and 26 points, respectively, and by his third, they picked up a win.
Julian Champagnie has been getting the start in his place, and he’s been playing well. Popovich and the Spurs may have found a new formula. At least for the time being,

Keldon Johnson discusses Spurs’ losing ways after tough loss to Clippers

After the San Antonio Spurs’ loss to the LA Clippers, Keldon Johnson spoke about their recent cold stretch.

It’s been a rough year for the San Antonio Spurs. What started as a promising young season, highlighted by two impressive wins over the Phoenix Suns, quickly turned into the year many projected the Spurs to have. They have now lost nine games in a row and sit at 3-11, good for 15th in the Western Conference.

On Monday night, they fell to the LA Clippers, losing 124-99. It marked James Harden’s second win since getting traded to the Clippers and the sixth time this year that the Spurs have lost by double digits. San Antonio is very young, but they are hungry, and losing gets old fast.

However, after their loss to LA, Keldon Johnson expressed a level of confidence in the team’s ability to push forward. (H/t Jonah Kubicek of Inside the Spurs)

San Antonio Spurs Injury Report vs. Kings: Devin Vassell OUT, Tre Jones DOUBTFUL, Keldon Johnson QUESTIONABLE

The San Antonio Spurs injury report vs. the Sacramento Kings has been revealed, and Devin Vassell, Tre Jones, and Keldon Johnson are listed.

The San Antonio Spurs injury report for their Friday night game against the Sacramento Kings has been revealed. Devin Vassell is OUT, Tre Jones is DOUBTFUL to play, and Keldon Johnson is QUESTIONABLE for the contest. Vassell has left adductor tightness, Jones is dealing with a right hamstring strain, and Johnson has right knee soreness. Sandro Mamukelashvili is PROBABLE to play with mid back tightness.

Vassell missed two games earlier this season, and if Jones ends up sitting out vs. the Kings, it will mark his third absence in a row. Meanwhile, Johnson missed the Spurs’ last game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

As for the Kings, they have a few players listed on the injury report as well.

Trey Lyles and Alex Len are both OUT for the game against the Spurs. Lyles is dealing with a left calf strain and has yet to appear in a game this season, while Len will be missing his second game in a row due to a right high ankle sprain. Jordan Ford (two-way) and Colby Jones are both on assignment in the G League and will not be available vs. San Antonio.

Sacramento is just 6-4 on the season but is riding a four-game winning streak that they will hope to extend to five against a Spurs squad that is reeling.

The Spurs will head into this game, led by a healthy Victor Wembanyama and Jeremy Sochan, looking to snap a six-game losing streak.

After their most recent loss, an embarrassing effort against the Thunder, head coach Gregg Popovich lit into his team, stating that while they may be young, they need to have a bit more pride.
