Takeaways from Auburn basketball’s 85-73 win over Florida

Another huge win for the Tigers!

Auburn proved yet again that they were capable of winning a grind-it-out type of game on Saturday night.

The Tigers defeated Florida by a final score of 85-73, picking up their 14th win of the season, as well as their third win in conference play.

KD Johnson led the way for No. 9 Auburn (14-1) with 23 points, a rebound, an assist, and three steals.

Florida (9-5, 0-2 SEC) relied on big man Colin Castleton (22 points, 10 rebounds, one assist) to sustain offense for the Gators, but overall the offense could not keep up with Auburn’s hot shooting.

Here are five takeaways from Saturday night’s action between Auburn and Florida.

Takeaways from Auburn’s double-overtime loss to UConn

What a game.

What a game.

The Auburn Tigers found themselves up by 11 early, then down by 15, then tied at the end of both regulation and overtime. But unfortunately, the offense sputtered out in a 115-109 double-overtime loss to UConn in the Battle 4 Atlantis. A tough one, for sure, but man was that fun.

Auburn fans should not be distraught after losing. That was a phenomenal game that showed so much potential. The Tigers allowed UConn to make 8-of-12 from deep in the first half but managed to slow the Huskies’ shooting down just enough to climb back into the contest.

Here are five takeaways from the loss.

Five reasons why Auburn basketball is going to win the SEC

Sip the Kool-Aid with us, will you?

It’s never to late to pump some sunshine.

Auburn played decently well against Morehead State on Tuesday night in a 77-54 win. The Tigers let off the gas in the second half, but overall their talent was shining through, and as a fan that’s what I wanted to see most.

I know there are a lot of folks high up on teams like Arkansas, Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, and even LSU and Mississippi State. The Southeastern Conference has a loaded field of teams this season. But I think the Tigers of Auburn are going to be the ones that come out on top.

Here are five reasons why.

Five takeaways from Auburn vs Morehead State

What was your biggest takeaway from Auburn basketball’s first win?

This is one of the most talented teams I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing in person.

While Auburn wasn’t particularly impressive in the second half, the Tigers came away with a 77-54 win over the Morehead State Eagles.

The Tigers overcame some issues that they had in the exhibition game against Southern Indiana, but its still clear that the chemistry for this team isn’t quite there yet. The talent and the intensity surely is. As most Bruce Pearl teams do, this team is going to hopefully build that chemistry as the season develops.

Here are five takeaways from the win.

Five takeaways from Auburn basketball’s 68-54 win over Southern Indiana

We love this team already.

I’m already in love with this team.

Auburn didn’t shoot the basketball well, they were sloppy throughout the entire game, and were down 9-0 early in the contest. I still love them.

The Tigers defeated Southern Indiana 68-54 in their exhibition game on Friday night. Devan Cambridge lead Auburn with 13 points on 4 of 7 shooting. Isaiah Swope of USI led all scorers with 15 points, knocking down a trio of threes.

Overall, as to be expected, the Tigers were sloppy, but this keep in mind this was an exhibition game. AU’s Final Four squad lost their exhibition game.

Here are five takeaways from Auburns win over USI.

Projecting Auburn basketball’s starting lineup

Who do you think starts at small forward?

Auburn has something they haven’t had at every position under Bruce Pearl.

Depth.

The Tigers dipped into the transfer portal and picked up three transfer guards to solidify the depth there. Auburn can go four-deep at small forward. The Tigers have a spot-up shooter in Jabari Smith at power forward… and don’t forget Auburn has three centers on the roster who are expected to play significant minutes.

This is easily the most well-rounded roster Bruce Pearl has ever had. The issue doesn’t lie in the talent, but in the fact that there may be too many mouths to feed.

Here is the projected starting lineup for Auburn basketball’s season opener vs Morehead State. Keep in mind that Allen Flanigan will be out until mid-December.

Georgia guard transfer K.D. Johnson commits to Auburn

Georgia guard transfer K.D. Johnson announced his commitment to Auburn on Wednesday afternoon.

Auburn has landed a transfer from a rival.

On Wednesday, Georgia guard transfer K.D. Johnson announced that he’s committed to play for the Tigers in the upcoming season.

Johnson is no stranger to Bruce Pearl and company as he was highly recruited by the Tigers in 2020 as a top-100 player in the class. He ended up committing to Tom Crean and the Bulldogs where, as a freshman last season, he averaged 13.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 38.7 percent from the three-point line.

Georgia basketball’s K.D. Johnson transfers to Auburn

Former Georgia Bulldogs guard K.D. Johnson has transferred within the SEC to play basketball with the Auburn Tigers.

Former Georgia Bulldogs guard K.D. Johnson has transferred to the Auburn Tigers. He will be immediately eligible. Johnson was named to the coaches’ SEC All-Freshman team for his efforts throughout the 2020-2021 college basketball season.

The rising sophomore was Georgia’s second-leading scorer at 13.6 points per game. The Bulldogs will miss his scoring ability.

Georgia and Auburn both struggled last season. The Bulldogs finished the year 14-12. The Tigers went 13-14. Both teams finished with 7-11 records in SEC play.

K.D. Johnson is from Atlanta, Georgia and is a former four-star recruit from Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia.

Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl has several other incoming transfers including: Walker Kessler (UNC), Desi Sills (Arkansas), and more. The Tigers will look to return to the NCAA Tournament once again in 2022.
