Packers host Bowling Green DL Karl Brooks for official pre-draft visit

The Packers hosted Bowling Green defensive lineman Karl Brooks on an official top 30 visit ahead of the 2023 draft.

The Green Bay Packers hosted Bowling Green defensive lineman Karl Brooks on an official top-30 visit, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Brooks (6-3, 296) produced 167 tackles, 46 tackles for loss, 27.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, six pass breakups and one interception over 52 games, 48 starts and five seasons at Bowling Green. He led the team in sacks during all five seasons (2018-22) and was a two-time All-MAC selection and a two-time team captain.

Over his final two collegiate seasons, Brooks created 30.5 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks and three forced fumbles, highlighting his disruptive abilities.

At Bowling Green’s pro day, Brooks ran the 40-yard dash in 5.08 seconds, hit 26.5″ in the vertical leap, covered 8-9 in the broad jump, finished the short shuttle in 5.0 seconds and the three-cone in 7.63 seconds and finished 28 reps on the bench press. His Relative Athletic Score is 5.88 out of 10.0.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic ranks Brooks as the 16th best defensive lineman in the class and a likely Day 3 pick.

Brooks played all over the defensive front at Bowling Green, including snaps on the edge.

The Packers have only five defensive linemen on the current roster and need depth. Brooks, a Michigan native, could be a target at some point in the fifth or sixth rounds.

10 defensive linemen Broncos could target in the NFL draft

Here’s a quick list of 10 defensive linemen the Broncos could target in the NFL draft.

The Denver Broncos’ projected defensive depth chart looks pretty good going into the NFL draft, with one glaring hole.

The Broncos do not have an obvious candidate to replace DeShawn Williams as a starting defensive end. Denver signed Zach Allen in free agency to replace Dre’Mont Jones, but the team still needs another starting-caliber defensive lineman after losing Williams to the Carolina Panthers.

The Broncos will hope that second-year defenders Matt Henningsen and Eyioma Uwazurike will step up this season, but neither of those players were major contributors in 2022. Denver would be wise to improve its defensive line depth through the draft next weekend.

Here’s a quick list of 10 names to watch for during the draft.

2023 NFL Draft: Finalized DT rankings as Browns look to add another

Who are the best defensive tackles in the 2023 NFL Draft? Here are finalized rankings.

The 2023 NFL Draft is now just two weeks away, and one need the Cleveland Browns will continue to look to upgrade is the defensive tackle position. They made massive strides in free agency, adding Dalvin Tomlinson to be an immediate upgrade, while also adding Maurice Hurst and Trysten Hill to compete for depth spots on the roster.

However, with Perrion Winfrey back in hot water, Tommy Togiai on the outside looking in, and with the pressure on Jordan Elliott, the Browns could look for another young player to add to their roster in one day two of the draft at the end of the month.

Who are the best defensive tackles in the draft? Here are the top 15 at the position.

10 defensive tackles for the Eagles in the 2023 NFL draft

We’re previewing ten defensive tackle prospects for the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2023 NFL Draft

Philadelphia had one of the NFL’s best defensive lines in the NFL last season.

Still, Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham have returned, while Ndamukong Suh, Linval Joseph, Robert Quinn are free agents and Javon Hargrave signed with the 49ers.

Eagles GM Howie Roseman will undoubtedly address the position during the NFL draft, and we’re highlighting ten defensive tackles that fit.

Dolphins hosting two defensive players for pre-draft visits

The front seven may seem set, but they could add more young talent.

With the 2023 NFL draft less than a month away, the Miami Dolphins, along with the other 31 teams, have turned their attention toward the prospects who could join their organizations from the collegiate game.

Miami has already reportedly met with TCU running back Kendre Miller, but now they’re adding some defensive players to their list. According to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, the Dolphins are having Nebraska edge rusher Garrett Nelson and Bowling Green defensive tackle Karl Brooks in for pre-draft visits.

Nelson played four years at Nebraska, recording 167 tackles (26 for a loss), 12 sacks and two forced fumbles in 38 career games. He isn’t exactly the most talented player on the field, but his effort has been heralded. Miami would likely be able to grab him on Day 3.

Brooks played five seasons at Bowling Green, recording 167 tackles (27.5 for a loss), 27.5 sacks and five forced fumbles in 49 career games. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein believes he could be a starter in the right scheme at the pro level. Still, mock drafts have him going between Day 2 and early Day 3.

The Dolphins have a lot of talent in their front seven with Christian Wilkins, Zach Sieler, Emmanuel Ogbah, Raekwon Davis, Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb as notable names. However, the trio of interior defenders – Wilkins, Sieler and Davis – are all set to be free agents at the end of the year. Ogbah could also be released to clear $13.8 million in cap space.

General manager Chris Grier has done a great job adding talented young players to a roster full of veterans, and he’ll need to continue doing exactly that, but now he has fewer picks to do it with.

2023 NFL draft: 6 small-school prospects Chargers should consider

Every NFL draft brings major contributors from smaller schools.

If the Chargers want to hit a home run in the 2023 NFL draft, they will have to consider all options when choosing who will make their draft board.

Every year a prospect from a small school becomes an NFL star in the making. Whether it’s the early rounds or undrafted free agency pool, there are plenty of players that always fly under the radar.

With that, I take look at six small school standouts that Los Angeles should consider based on positional needs.

Browns hosting Bowling Green DL Karl Brooks on pre-draft visit

The Browns are hosting an in-state defensive lineman for a pre-draft visit.

Taking advantage of hosting in-state 2023 NFL Draft prospects without burning a top-30 visit, the Cleveland Browns are hosting Bowling Green defensive line standout Karl Brooks (according to The Athletic’s Zac Jackson). Projecting as a day-three pick, Brooks did not get an invitation despite flashing at the Reese’s Senior Bowl. He did not test overly well at his pro day, however, to improve his draft slot.

The Browns have added three defensive tackles to their room this offseason, including Dalvin Tomlinson. However, his ability to play inside and out may make him a valuable asset as the Browns carry six day-three picks in next month’s draft looking to build depth on their roster.

Patriots’ full 7-round 2023 mock draft 6.0

A full seven-round 2023 NFL mock draft for the Patriots after free agency.

The first wave of the NFL free agency period has come and gone, and the New England Patriots have seemingly dialed down the activity of moves. So it’s a perfect time for another mock draft.

As with the previous mock drafts, we have shifted to a what the Patriots will do, rather than what we would do approach. For anyone that has followed the team over the years, they typically have some surprises in store when the draft board goes live.

It’ll be fun to see how the real thing goes down in April. Until then, here is our latest seven-round 2023 NFL mock draft for the Patriots.

Vikings set to meet with Bowling Green DL Karl Brooks on top-30 visit

Brooks is a high-upside lineman who could make an immediate impact on the #Vikings’ defense in 2023

The Minnesota Vikings are set to meet with Bowling Green defensive lineman Karl Brooks on a top-30 visit ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft. Brooks, who was a standout for the Falcons last season, is one of the more underrated linemen in the upcoming class.
Despite being a first-team All-American selection by Pro Football Focus and making the All-MAC first team in 2022, he has managed to fly under the radar of most fans who aren’t familiar with Bowling Green’s football program.
Despite this, the Vikings seem to be well aware of Brooks’ talent and upside and could target the promising prospect with one of their premium picks in the upcoming draft. Minnesota needs as much help as they can get on defense, and given Brooks’ versatile skillset as a pass rusher and run stuffer up front, he could prove to be a natural fit for the Vikings’ front four.
Time will tell if this pre-draft visit plays out in such a way that would become consequential to their strategy during the annual selection meeting, but the prospect of adding such a capable defender should excite Vikings fans who have clamored for defensive upgrades after the team’s early exit from the playoffs in January.

Saints schedule official pre-draft visit with Bowling Green DL Karl Brooks

The Saints scheduled an official pre-draft visit with Bowling Green DL Karl Brooks, one of 30 meetings they can host at their facility:

The Draft Network’s Justin Melo reports that the New Orleans Saints are one of at least five teams to schedule a formal facility visit with Bowling Green defensive lineman Karl Brooks — which is notable because teams are only allowed to host 30 prospects on such private meetings at their headquarters each year.

Brooks weighed in at 6-foot-3 and 303 pounds at the Senior Bowl, measuring out well with 32 3/8-inch arms and an impressive 77 3/4-inch wingspan. He used his size to great effect for Bowling Green over the last five years, playing  his best football in 2022; Pro Football Focus charting credited him with 69 quarterback pressures and 36 defensive stops. He’s a very active, disruptive lineman up front.

His exact fit in the NFL is going to be interesting. Brooks has the size to play inside at defensive tackle, but he was lined up predominately out on the edge in college (doing so on 1,469 of his 2,435 career defensive snaps), and he showed the lower-body flexibility to turn the corner and get low against pro-quality offensive tackles at the Senior Bowl.

The Saints probably want to bring Brooks in to go through further athletic testing and position drills to best determine his fit in their system. He was snubbed by the annual NFL Scouting Combine, so they won’t get an opportunity to put him through his paces until his March 20 pro day. Right now he’s projected to be picked in the third or fourth round of April’s draft.
