Alabama left tackle Kadyn Proctor to reportedly make season debut Saturday

Alabama’s left tackle will reportedly return Saturday.

According to multiple reports, starting Alabama Crimson Tide left tackle Kadyn Proctor will make his season debut Saturday afternoon against the Wisconsin Badgers.

Proctor, who was with Alabama last season prior to transferring to Iowa over the offseason before flipping back to the Crimson Tide, had missed the first two games of the season due to an injury.

A sophomore, Proctor was the Crimson Tide’s starting left tackle a year ago as a true freshman where he received SEC All-Freshman honors. This year came after Proctor arrived in Tuscaloosa as a highly-touted prospect in the 2023 class, ranked as the nation’s No. 1 offensive tackle.

With the former five-star now reportedly slotting back in at left tackle, it will allow Alabama to move Tyler Booker back to left guard against Wisconsin. Those two will feature alongside center Parker Brailsford and right guard Jaeden Roberts, while either Elijah Pritchett or Wilkin Formby will likely start at right tackle.

As a result of Proctor’s reported return, it appears the Alabama offensive line will be at full strength against Wisconsin.

Alabama starting left tackle Kadyn Proctor is ‘expected to play and make his season debut’ on Saturday when the Crimson Tide visit the Wisconsin Badgers, according to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

Proctor had been trending toward playing earlier in the week. This report comes close to firming his status entering Saturday’s big game.

The sophomore left tackle missed Alabama’s first two games after suffering a shoulder injury during warmups before the Week 1 vs. Western Kentucky. His return to the lineup is significant news after the Crimson Tide struggled offensively in their Week 2 win over South Florida.

Both Proctor and starting right tackle Elijah Pritchett have been dealing with injuries early in the season. Both are expected to be healthy and in the lineup on Saturday.

The matchup with Alabama is a challenging one for Wisconsin. The Badgers will be tasked with corralling a high-powered offense led by Heisman Trophy candidate Jalen Milroe.

While Wisconsin’s clear weakness is its defensive front seven, there was a thought that Alabama’s lack of health along the line could neutralize its advantage in that area. Proctor and Pritchett both appearing set to play should tip the scales significantly in favor of the Alabama offense.

Wisconsin and Alabama will kick off at noon ET, 11 a.m. CT on Saturday. It is worth monitoring the official status of Alabama’s two starting tackles in the hours approaching game time.

Alabama starting left tackle trending toward returning against Wisconsin

Alabama starting left tackle Kadyn Proctor is trending toward making his season debut on Saturday when the No. 4-ranked Crimson Tide visit the Wisconsin Badgers.

The former five-star recruit injured his arm in warmups of Alabama’s season-opener against Western Kentucky. He sat out that game, then sat out Alabama’s Week 2 over South Florida.

Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer gave an update on Proctor during his media availability on Wednesday. “He’s been practicing and doing well. Doing a good job…[He has] done a nice job here in the first two days of practice.”

Proctor’s return to practice points toward him likely suiting up against the Badgers. His return to the lineup is huge news for an Alabama team that struggled offensively against USF without him on the field.

The Crimson Tide played most of the 42-16 win without both Proctor and starting RT Elijah Pritchett in the lineup. They led the Bulls only 14-13 with 10:00 left in the game when DeBoer inserted Pritchett, who was dealing with a minor ailment, back into the lineup. His return helped the unit finally find some consistent offense.

Overall, the team has showed signs of struggles without its top two tackles healthy.

DeBoer is still transitioning the program from the Nick Saban era after the legendary coach retired this offseason. Those transitions usually mean less depth in the trenches, which is certainly true for the Crimson Tide on the offensive side of the football.

Proctor’s likely return should provide a significant boost to the Alabama offensive attack.

Wisconsin and Alabama will kick off at noon ET, 11 a.m. CT on Saturday in each team’s biggest game of the season to date.

Will starting Alabama left tackle Kadyn Proctor play against South Florida?

The left tackle did not play against Western Kentucky in Week 1.

After suffering a shoulder injury during pregame warmups last week, starting Alabama Crimson Tide left tackle Kadyn Proctor was absent during a 63-0 victory for the program during Week 1 over Western Kentucky.

According to a report Saturday morning from ESPN’s Pete Thamel as well, it appears that Proctor’s status for Alabama’s showdown with South Florida on Saturday night could also be in jeopardy, as he is reportedly doubtful to play.

A sophomore, Proctor started every game for the Crimson Tide at left tackle as a true freshman last season after coming to Alabama as the nation’s No. 1 rated offensive tackle in the 2023 recruiting class.

Proctor, who transferred to Iowa during the offseason before transferring back to Alabama in the spring, was expected to start at the same position for the Crimson Tide in Week 1 prior to injury. In his place, redshirt sophomore Elijah Pritchett started at left tackle against Western Kentucky.

If he were to not play Saturday, Proctor’s return to action could come next Saturday on the road at Wisconsin.

74 days until Alabama football kicks off the 2024 season

We are now just Kadyn Proctor days away from the start of the Kalen DeBoer era of Alabama football!

In 74 days, Kalen DeBoer will usher in a new era of Alabama Crimson Tide football, replacing the legendary [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] as head coach in Tuscaloosa.

Coach DeBoer and the Crimson Tide will take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Aug. 31 to kick off the 2024 college football season inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Here at Roll Tide Wire, we will count down the days until Alabama football takes the field.

With 74 days remaining, we look at sophomore offensive tackle [autotag]Kadyn Proctor[/autotag] who started for the Crimson Tide at left tackle in 2023. Proctor had a wild offseason transferring from Alabama to the Iowa Hawkeyes before deciding to return to Tuscaloosa.

Alabama’s offensive line ranks No. 1 in the nation for 2024

Alabama football’s offensive line is being praised as the top OL unit in all of college football.

The upcoming 2024 college football season for the Alabama Crimson Tide will be interesting. A handful of key contributors departed for the NFL, while others left via the transfer portal upon hearing of legendary head coach Nick Saban’s decision to retire. While some fans are unsure how to feel about certain positional units, there is one that is being praised as the best in the nation.

Alabama’s offensive line was recently ranked No. 1 in the nation, according to Pro Football Focus, which ranked the top 10 offensive line units in all of college football.

With a quarterback as versatile as Jalen Milroe, protecting him from pass rushers, and allowing him to read the field is a must. In 2023, many fans had complaints about the performance of the offensive line, especially at center.

As the team prepares for 2024, it seems as if new head coach Kalen DeBoer was able to piece together an offensive line that has experience and a proven track record of success.

The line took a big hit early in the offseason as high-profile, former five-star recruit Kadyn Proctor announced his decision to enter the transfer portal and return to his home state of Iowa to play for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Just a few weeks later, however, Proctor re-entered the transfer portal and re-committed to the Crimson Tide. This was one of the biggest moves of the offseason for the team.

DeBoer also managed to recruit former Washington Huskies center Parker Brailsford, who played under DeBoer at Washington. Issues snapping the football in 2023 led many to believe that opportunities were missed and Milroe was being limited in what he could do, having to field low snaps and chasing untimely snapped footballs.

Pro Football Focus has high praise for Alabama’s offensive line in 2024, writing,

“All three of Alabama’s projected starters on the interior made PFF’s list of the top returners at the position: Parker Brailsford (No. 1), Tyler Booker (No. 3) and Jaeden Roberts (No. 7).

“They also return sophomore left tackle Kadyn Proctor, who transferred from Alabama to Iowa and back to Alabama, all in a span of three months. The former top-10 recruit’s freshman season was a roller coaster, as he earned a 76.3 PFF grade in the final seven games after posting a 54.5 mark in the first seven.”

While many are unsure where to place expectations for Alabama in the 2024 season, there should be very high hopes for what this offensive line will be capable of. It is far from flashy, but the line is the reason why Milroe will be able to make the highlight-worthy plays and how massive game-changing runs can take place.

Kadyn Proctor featured among On3’s Preseason All-Transfer Portal Team

Was he ever really a Hawkeye?

Former five-star signee and Iowa native Kadyn Proctor made his way onto On3’s Preseason All-Transfer Portal Team.

Originally an Iowa commit, Proctor spurned the Hawkeyes late in the 2023 signing class and inked with Alabama. The 6-foot-7, 360 pound offensive tackle started and played in all 14 games last year with the Crimson Tide.

Proctor then brought temporary excitement to Iowa City as he transferred to and enrolled at the University of Iowa. That excitement was short lived.

Proctor’s remarks at an Iowa basketball game led to Hawkeye football self-reporting a Level III NCAA violation for tampering. Then, news broke in late March that Proctor would be re-entering the transfer portal and returning to Alabama.

It was another frustrating development in the Proctor story for Hawkeye fans. Proctor’s inclusion among On3’s Preseason All-Transfer Portal Team demonstrates what his potential value could have been to Iowa football.

The most infamous boomerang transfer to date? The former 5-star tackle started every game for the Crimson Tide as a Freshman All-American, only to leave the program in January to return home to play for Iowa. But Proctor never suited up the Hawkeyes, leaving the team on the eve of spring practice to go back to Alabama. – Jesse Simonton, On3.

Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz was asked about Proctor’s departure in late March after the news broke that Proctor would be re-entering the transfer portal.

“The player you spoke of we never had. It’s not like he ever played or took a rep for us. It wasn’t intentional he came here. Just it worked out that way back in January.

“You can’t count on anything basically until guys get out there. That’s kind of the way it goes. We’re always going to be trying to develop tackles. It’s a tough position to develop. We’re working hard on that right now. I think we have three guys with veteran experience that can do a good job out there, and that’s a positive, but that’s not enough. Two of them are going to be gone after this coming year. We always need to keep that moving forward,” Ferentz said.

Iowa brings back offensive tackles Mason Richman, Gennings Dunker and Nick DeJong.

Richman started all 14 games for Iowa in 2023 at left tackle and he has now started 39 games in his career. Meanwhile, Dunker started 13 games last season at right tackle. DeJong has 24 career starts, including five last season at left guard, one at right guard and one at right tackle.

Sophomore Jack Dotzler was the other offensive tackle listed on Iowa’s spring two-deep depth chart.

Iowa also inked offensive tackles Cannon Leonard and Trevor Lauck in the 2023 signing class and Bodey McCaslin and Will Nolan in the 2024 signing class.

The Hawkeyes open their 2024 college football season on Aug. 31 inside Kinnick Stadium versus Illinois State.

Where does Alabama’s offensive line rank in college football according to PFF?

Will Alabama have the best offensive line in the country in 2024?

We all know that if you want to compete for a championship at any level of football, you better be sound up front along the offensive line. Fans of the Alabama Crimson Tide football program saw that up close and personal during the dominant run by [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] in Tuscaloosa.

It’s only logical that one question that Crimson Tide fans have had this offseason as Kalen DeBoer prepares Alabama for his first season as the head coach is whether or not the offensive line will continue to be a strength of the program.

According to Max Chadwick of PFF College, Alabama may just have the best offensive line in the country this fall.

Chadwick points to the presence of [autotag]Tyler Booker[/autotag], [autotag]Parker Brailsford[/autotag], and [autotag]Jaeden Roberts[/autotag] in the interior of the line as the strength of the group.

The Crimson Tide takes the top spot because they have one of the most loaded interior offensive lines in recent memory.

The growth of [autotag]Kadyn Proctor[/autotag] at left tackle throughout the 2023 season should also give Tide fans hope.

They also return sophomore left tackle Kadyn Proctor, who transferred from Alabama to Iowa and back to Alabama, all in a span of three months. The former top-10 recruit’s freshman season was a roller coaster, as he earned a 76.3 PFF grade in the final seven games after posting a 54.5 mark in the first seven.

There is no denying the fact that Proctor, Booker, Brailsford, and Roberts make up a fantastic group, but there are still question marks at right tackle entering the 2024 season with Elijah Pritchett and Wilkin Formby competing for the final spot.

If Alabama can just have adequate production at right tackle, there is no reason this group couldn’t be among the best in the country this season.

Kadyn Proctor opens up to 247Sports on why he left Iowa for Alabama a second time

A look inside Kadyn Proctor’s mind.

The transfer that was heard around Iowa. And rather unfortunately for most fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Kadyn Proctor, the Iowa native, burned the Hawkeyes not once, but twice.

Proctor flipped last minute to sign with the Alabama Crimson Tide after being committed to the Hawkeyes for most of his recruiting journey. Following his freshman year at Alabama, Proctor transferred back home to Iowa where he was met with open arms. Despite that, he left once again and burned bridges across the state.

Many were frustrated, many were mad, and many were confused as to why Proctor played Iowa twice. He has opened up on his decision to 247Sports that was reported by Alex Scarborough.

“I definitely regret it,” he said. “It’s probably one of the worst decisions that I’ve made in my life. Because, looking back, I had so many people that cared for me here and were trying to tell me that this was the best place for me, and I really wasn’t thinking it through. I let Coach [Kalen] DeBoer and the staff talk to me, trying to convince me to stay, but I wasn’t really sitting there and listening to them. I was just so hell bent on going back home, no one was going to change my mind.

Proctor left Alabama amid Nick Saban’s retirement. The Crimson Tide were shuffling and he decided to return to familiar territory in Iowa. His reason for going back to Alabama was rooted in apologies but to the Crimson Tide, not the Hawkeyes.

The moment he entered the transfer portal, he drove to Alabama’s football facility and walked straight to DeBoer’s office where he apologized face-to-face.

“I’m sorry for not hearing y’all out,” he said. “I’m ready to get back and do everything for this team.”

Proctor sighed.

“It was humbling because I’m not really the type of person to do that,” he said. “But I felt like that was the right thing to do because I realized I really didn’t listen.” – Scarborough, 247Sports

Once the dust settled, Iowa moved on. They began to focus on themselves and the players in-house ahead of the 2024 season. The Kadyn Proctor saga burned many Iowa fans and left a bad taste in many’s mouths.

All that is left to do now is look ahead for both Proctor and the Hawkeyes.

Kadyn Proctor details decision to leave, return to Alabama football

Kadyn Proctor “regrets” leaving Alabama

To say that Alabama Crimson Tide offensive lineman [autotag]Kadyn Proctor[/autotag] has had a rollercoaster off-season would be a massive understatement.

The former five-star recruit opted to enter the NCAA transfer portal after the abrupt retirement of [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and return to his home state to play for the Iowa Hawkeyes only to return to the Crimson Tide before stepping on the field in Iowa City.

Proctor recently opened up about his hectic past few months with Alex Scarborough of Bama247 (subscription required) and would go into detail about his decision.

“I definitely regret it. It’s probably one of the worst decisions that I’ve made in my life. Even my parents told me that, but they were like, ‘OK, you’re going to find out for yourself.’ And that’s exactly what happened. I gave them credit. I said, ‘You’re right.’ Nothing else I can do but say you’re right and I made a mistake.”

Proctor even went out of his way to apologize to Coach DeBoer face-to-face upon his return to Tuscaloosa, telling DeBoer, “I’m sorry for not hearing y’all out. I’m ready to get back and do everything for this team.”

Given Proctor’s youth, I think it’s only fair that fans cut him some slack on making such a rash decision.

Proctor appears to be back in the good graces of the Alabama coaching and will likely be the Crimson Tide’s starting left tackle again in 2024. Proctor’s return is massive for the depth of the Alabama offensive line that could be in for a big season.
