Nation’s No. 1 linebacker Justin Williams on joining Georgia: ‘It feels like family’

Here’s how Oak Ridge (Texas) five-star linebacker Justin Williams announced his commitment to the Bulldogs.

The rich get richer. Already a two-time reigning national champion and the No. 1 ranked team in the 2024 recruiting cycle, the Georgia Bulldogs took yet another significant step ahead of their competition Monday.

Here’s how Oak Ridge (Texas) five-star linebacker Justin Williams announced his commitment to the Bulldogs.

Williams gave Hayes Fawcett at On3 five reasons why he picked Georgia, with the chance of winning a title in the middle.

“When you land at UGA, it feels like family. They yell hella loud as soon as you hop off the plane. Third would be the ability to go win a national championship. That’s always been the goal…”

Not only is Williams (6-foot-2, 205 pounds) the consensus highest-ranked linebacker in his class, going by the composite ranking he’s the third-best player in Texas and No. 11 nationally in his class.

The biggest losers here are Oregon, Texas and Alabama: the other favorites for Williams’ commitment.

Overall, he got offers from 32 different programs.

Williams also told On3 he believes they’ll play him at Mike, but he isn’t sure. Wherever Kirby Smart decides to line him up, he’s the third five-star recruit to join Georgia’s loaded class of 2024, including Dylan Raiola. They now have 26 hard commits and hold a commanding 33-point lead in the national recruiting rankings over second-place Ohio State.

Williams’ recruitment was a battle between the Georgia Bulldogs and Oregon Ducks. Ultimately, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann beat Oregon head coach and former Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning to land Williams.

Georgia has a very strong recruiting pitch for linebackers due to the Dawgs’ recent success on the field and in the NFL draft. Additionally, Georgia’s dominant 49-3 win over Oregon last year gave the Bulldogs a boost.

Georgia recruited the linebacker position at an elite level in the class of 2023 and is off to an excellent start with the 2024 recruiting class.

The Bulldogs hold one other commitment at the linebacker position, five-star Demarcus Riddick. However, Riddick is making an announcement regarding his recruitment later this week.

5-star LB Justin Williams announces college commitment

5-star Justin Williams, the No. 1 LB in the 2024 class, announced his college commitment on Monday evening.

One of the top-rated players left uncommitted in the 2024 class came off of the board on Monday evening.

5-star linebacker Justin Williams officially announced his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs, picking Kirby Smart and the two-time defending national champions over Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks.

Williams is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 1 LB in the 2024 class, and the No. 11 overall player in the nation.

For months, Williams has been thought of as a strong Oregon lean in the recruiting world, with expectations that he would ultimately commit to the Ducks. However, the Bulldogs went after him in full force over the past couple of months, and Smart was able to land the top-rated defender in the end.

At the moment, Oregon has the No. 12 ranked class in the 2024 cycle with 20 commitments. The addition of Williams only furthers Georgia’s lead in the recruiting ratings, where they have the No. 1 ranked class by a large margin.

Texas among the finalists for 2024 five-star LB Justin Williams

The Longhorns appear to be behind Georgia in this recruitment.

The Longhorns are big-game hunting on the recruiting trail, and will be going head-to-head with some of the other premier programs in the country for the services of five-star linebacker Justin Williams.

Williams is rated the No. 1 linebacker in the country for the 2024 cycle, according to 247Sports.

The Conroe, Texas native and product of Oak Ridge recently announced his commitment date of July 24 and the finalists left in his recruitment. Williams narrowed his list down to four programs after accumulating over 30 offers.

Joining Texas in his list of finalists are Alabama, Georgia, and Oregon. In an interview with On3, he gave a brief breakdown of what stood out about each program. For Texas, he mentioned Steve Sarkisian and what the school offers as a whole.

“Just think coach Sark is a cool person. Texas has always been a great school with football and education.”

The Longhorns appear to be behind the eight ball in this recruitment however, as according to 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong, Georgia is the favorite. Texas currently holds the No. 21 class in the country headlined by four-star running back Jerrick Gibson.

5-star Oregon target Justin Williams announces commitment date

5-star Oregon target Justin Williams announces commitment date

One of the top targets for the Oregon Ducks is set to come off the board in the coming days. Unfortunately, he appears to be trending away from Dan Lanning and the staff.

Five-star linebacker Justin Williams announced on Wednesday he plans to make his commitment official on Monday, July 24. Williams is the No. 1 overall linebacker in the 2024 class and the No. 11 player overall.

For several months, the Ducks were considered the leader to land a commitment from Williams. However, the Georgia Bulldogs made a major late push in his recruitment, and they are predicted to land his commitment.

This decision comes not long after Oregon was unable to land a commitment from five-star edge rusher Elijah Rushing, who committed to the Arizona Wildcats instead.

Oregon has commitments from four-star linebackers Dylan Williams and  Kamara Mothudi in the 2024 class. Should they pull off and upset and land Williams over the defending champion Bulldogs, it would be a feather in the cap for Dan Lanning during his time in Eugene.

Williams will choose among Georgia, Oregon, Alabama and Texas.

5-star Georgia target sets commitment date

5-star LB Justin Williams will make his commitment on July 24…

Williams (6 feet, 2 inches and 205 pounds) is predicted to sign with the Bulldogs by both 247Sports and On3. Williams is teammates with current Georgia commit Joseph Jonah-Ajonye, a four-star defensive lineman.

The Bulldogs have one commitment at the linebacker position: five-star Demarcus Riddick. Linebackers coach Glenn Schumann is always looking to add more talent to a position that Georgia has developed extremely well under Schumann and head coach Kirby Smart.

Schumann has coached two Butkus Award (nation’s top linebacker) winners in his tenure at UGA in Roquan Smith and Nakobe Dean. Returning starters Jamon Dumas-Johnson and Smael Mondon have a shot at the award in 2023.

The Bulldogs’ knack for sending linebackers to the NFL is something to note here. Georgia has produced nine draft picks at the position during Smart’s tenure in Athens.
