Nerlens Noel will miss fourth straight game due to ankle injury

Noel is still sidelined with the sprained left ankle that he suffered in the third quarter of OKC’s win over the Cavaliers on Jan. 4.

The good news is that Nerlens Noel is improving. The bad news – he’s still out and will not play against the Lakers on Saturday.

Per Maddie Lee of The Oklahoman, Thunder head coach Billy Donovan gave the update on Noel’s status Friday afternoon.

There is still no timetable for OKC’s center to return, but Noel has not suffered any setbacks in his recovery.

Noel first suffered the ankle injury on January 4 in Oklahoma City’s win over the Cavaliers. He was chasing a loose ball during the third quarter when he appeared to step on the foot of Tristan Thompson, rolling his ankle at an awkward angle.

Noel left the game against the Cavs and did not return.

He missed the Thunder’s games against Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and Houston following the injury.

Oklahoma City had recalled Justin Patton for those games to help give the Thunder some size and depth on the bench, but he, along with Deonte Burton were reassigned to the OKC Blue on Friday afternoon.

Noel is not known much for his scoring, however, he brings a solid defensive presence.

Per NBA.com, Noel is 13th in the league in blocks per game, averaging 1.5 per contest. He’s also fourth on the Thunder in rebounding, pulling down 5.1 boards per game.

Oklahoma City tips off against the Lakers inside Chesapeake Energy Arena at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday night.

Deonte Burton and Justin Patton assigned to OKC Blue

Both players are expected to be in uniform on Friday night when the Blue host the Raptors 905 inside the Cox Convention Center at 7 p.m. CT.

The Thunder assigned both Deonte Burton and Justin Patton to the OKC Blue.

The team announced the move on Friday morning.

Patton had been recalled to the Thunder on January 5 after it was announced that Nerlens Noel would miss Oklahoma City’s game against the 76ers with a sprained left ankle.

Patton did not play against Philadelphia or in OKC’s overtime win over the Nets. He did see three minutes of game time against the Rockets, pulling down three rebounds.

In 21 games with the Blue, Patton is averaging 10.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.71 blocks in 27.3 minutes per game, shooting 51.3 percent from the field.

Burton has played sparing minutes for the Thunder in recent weeks.

His best outing was on Thursday against Houston, in which he scored four points in four minutes of play. He played 16 minutes against Brooklyn, scoring three points to go along with three rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block.

With the Blue, Burton has started in seven games and is recording averages of 16.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.14 blocks in 35.5 minutes.

Per the team release, both players are expected to be in uniform tonight when the Blue host the Raptors 905. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

Thunder recalls Justin Patton from OKC Blue

Patton is averaging 10.4 points and 8.1 rebounds in 21 games for the Blue this season. He’s appeared in two games for the Thunder this year.

Justin Patton has been recalled to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Per Maddie Lee of The Oklahoman, the team announced the move on Sunday evening, following the news that Nerlens Noel will miss Monday’s game against Philadelphia with a sprained left ankle.

Noel was injured during the third quarter of Saturday’s win over the Cleveland Cavaliers when he stepped on the left foot of Tristan Thompson and rolled his ankle. He left the game and did not return.

Patton has spent the majority of the season with the Thunder’s NBA G-League affiliate, the OKC Blue.

He’s appeared in 21 games for the Blue with 20 starts. He’s averaging 10.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks in 27.2 minutes per game.

Patton’s status with the organization has been a question mark as of late. Patton’s name was mentioned in conjunction with trade rumors last week, as John Hollinger of The Athletic reported that the Thunder were “likely to trade” Patton within the coming week.

Patton has played in two games for the Thunder this season, scoring two points and pulling down two rebounds in nine total minutes.

Report: Thunder likely to trade Justin Patton

Per The Athletic’s John Hollinger, OKC will look to trade Patton within the week. Patton has played in two games for the Thunder this year.

It’s been oddly quiet on the trade front.

The common thought was that Oklahoma City was going to be (or at least look to be) one of the big sellers this season, trying to move some of their more valuable pieces and go full rebuild with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and their stockpile of draft picks.

Though there is still no word about potential deals including Chris Paul, Danilo Gallinari or Steven Adams, there is an OKC player that could be on the move in the coming days.

According to John Hollinger of The Athletic, the Thunder are likely to trade Justin Patton sometime in the coming week.

With the Thunder a mere $750,250 into the tax and Patton’s deal non-guaranteed, the stars are not aligned in the young center’s favor. By emulating the Houston move enumerated above and paying another team to take Patton and waive him, the Thunder could promote 2-way player Luguentz Dort to get the roster back to 14 and then sign another 2-way, and stay under the tax. As with Gary Clark above, Patton could only be acquired by one of the nine teams with workable trade exceptions, or by the Hawks via cap room.

Patton is in his third year in the league, his first in Oklahoma City. He’s played in two games for the Thunder, averaging 1.0 points and 1.0 rebounds in 4.5 minutes of game time.

He has spent most of his season with the Thunder’s G-League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue. Patton has played in 19 games for the Blue, starting in 18. He’s averaging 10.2 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 27.1 minutes per game.

Oklahoma City signed the former 2017 Chicago Bulls draft pick on August 13, after he was waived by the Philadelphia 76ers back in April 2019.

Dennis Schröder convinced teammate to get blonde streak

Justin Patton has been sporting a blonde patch of hair. Schröder told Nick Gallo “he convinced him to do it and kind of likes it”.

It’s said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

In the NBA, that can range from style of play, to fashion to, apparently, hair.

Dennis Schröder isn’t the only sporting his signature blonde streak. Prior to Wednesday’s game in Portland, Thunder reporter Nick Gallo asked the seventh-year guard about Justin Patton, who has been seen showing off a noticeably lighter patch of hair on the back of his head.

“My barber, he was in San Francisco. He wanted to do the blonde patch and I told him, ‘do something else’ you know? And I convinced him to do it in the back. I kind of like it.”

In addition to the new hairdo, there’s been a lot to like about Patton this season.

In his last outing for the OKC Blue on Saturday, Nov. 23, Patton scored 13 points in 19 minutes in a 127-116 loss to the Texas Legends. He shot 6-of-8 from the field.

Through six games, Patton is averaging 9.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, and 2.5 assists in 25.4 minutes per contest.

Justin Patton reassigned to OKC Blue

Two days after being recalled from the OKC Blue, Justin Patton has been reassigned to the Thunder’s NBA G League affiliate.

The back and forth continues for Justin Patton.

Two days after being recalled from the Oklahoma City Blue, Patton has been reassigned to the Thunder’s NBA G League affiliate.

The move was announced by OKC Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti Friday morning.

Patton was signed by the Thunder in August but has played only in one regular-season game for Oklahoma City. He logged six minutes in OKC’s 120-92 route of Golden State at the end of October.

The center has spent the majority of his time with the OKC Blue, where he is averaging 6.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 4.5 blocks, and 1.5 steals in 23.4 minutes with two starts.

Patton’s best game came in a loss against the Agua Caliente, the G League affiliate of the Los Angeles Clippers, in which he scored 10 points and grabbed six boards.

He has struggled to stay on the court, however, as fouling has been an issue. Patton has fouled out of two straight games.

The OKC Blue returns to action Saturday, November 16th when they host the Winchester Knicks.

Terrance Ferguson binge-watching ‘Andy Griffith Show,’ what rest of Thunder are viewing

Terrance Ferguson admitted he’s currently binge-watching “The Andy Griffith Show”; other players watching “Fresh Prince”, “The Office”.

Everyone loves a good binge-watch session, and the members of the Oklahoma City Thunder are no exception.

With all the travel during the season, there’s definitely an opportunity for a Netflix or Hulu marathon.

Like the players themselves, the shows that they’re watching are diverse and span across a wide array of topics and titles.

Some are shows that you might expect, ones that are new and current or are old, nostalgic favorites.

Chris Paul says he watches “everything”, but has now started in on HBO’s “Succession”, as well as “Billions”, which airs on Showtime.

Both Darius Bazley and Justin Patton are both watching “Martin” and “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, and both Patton and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have gotten into “The Office”.

But Terrance Ferguson, his binge-watch show of the moment is a little bit unique.

It’s “The Andy Griffith Show”.

Ferguson told the Thunder he understands the show better now that he’s an adult.

“I swear, I’m on Season 5, Episode 23 right now. I’ve been dedicated to it every day, after practice I go home and turn it on. I used to watch it when I was a kid, but I didn’t really understand it, but now that I watch it, it’s hilarious. It’s so corny but it’s hilarious. Like Barney, he’s hilarious.”

No word on whether or not he’s been able to get his teammates to watch a couple of episodes with him.

Check out all the shows the Thunder players are bingeing on The Lighter Side, a series on the team website “aimed to reveal the person in the jersey we love to support.”

The Thunder have recalled Justin Patton from the OKC Blue of the NBA G League.

The team announced the move on Wednesday.

Patton started two games for the OKC Blue, averaging 6.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 4.5 blocks, and 1.5 steals in 23.4 minutes per game.

In a 113-109 loss to the Agua Caliente, the G League affiliate of the Los Angeles Clippers, Patton played 24 minutes, scoring 10 points while pulling down four rebounds and dishing out four assists.

He was assigned to the OKC Blue on November 6.

Patton has seen limited court time for the Thunder this season, logging six minutes in Oklahoma City’s 120-92 blow out win over the Warriors. In that game, he missed both of his shot attempts, but did grab two rebounds to go along with a turnover and three personal fouls.

The center played sparingly for the Thunder during the preseason, averaging 3.0 points per game, shooting 37.5% from the field, hitting on 6-of-16 attempts.

Oklahoma City signed Patton in August of 2019.
