Stock report from Colts’ Week 3 win over Ravens

Here’s the stock report from the Colts’ big win over the Ravens in Week 3.

The Indianapolis Colts (2-1) gutted out a tough win on the road in Week 4, defeating the Baltimore Ravens (2-1) at M&T Bank Stadium in a 22-19 upset victory.

Without Anthony Richardson and Ryan Kelly, the Colts offense was still able to keep pace with the Ravens thanks to a stellar performance from the entire front seven on the defensive side of the ball. It also helped that the signing of Matt Gay this offseason proved to pay massive dividends.

When taking stock of a player’s performance, it’s best to be fluid. A player’s stock will fall and rise throughout the season so none of this is set in stone. However, it is important to take note of the narratives and storylines taking place as the campaign progresses.

A player’s stock can be impacted by factors such as their performance or the type of snaps they receive during the games.

Here’s a look at the stock report for the Colts following the Week 3 win:

Colts rookie CB Julius Brents earns high praise from PFF

Julius Brents had a strong NFL debut, earning some high praise from PFF.

Indianapolis Colts second-round pick Julius Brents made his NFL debut on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens in the 22-19 upset win at M&T Bank Stadium.

Brents replaced Darrell Baker as a starting outside corner in Week 3 following the latter’s struggles to open the season.

The debut for Brents went well, to say the least. According to Pro Football Focus, Brents was graded out as the best defensive player for Indianapolis with an 87.6 grade on Sunday.

Brents began his young career with a bang, forcing and recovering a fumble on the Colts’ second defensive drive. Brents was consistently in the right position and looked good in his first career start.

It has been a slow development for Brents, who has dealt with a few injuries since the Colts used the No. 44 pick to select him in the 2023 NFL draft.

However, if Brents continues to build off of his strong debut, the Colts could have a star in the making.

The Indianapolis Colts (2-1) were able to earn their second victory of the 2023 season against the Baltimore Ravens (2-1) by a score of 22-19 on Sunday afternoon.

Overall, it was a big win for the Colts, who were underdogs entering this game. The Colts were able to hold on and won on a walk-off field goal to seal the win in overtime.

Colts vs. Jaguars: Final injury report for Week 1

The Colts didn’t rule out any players on their final Week 1 injury report.

The Indianapolis Colts (0-0) and Jacksonville Jaguars (0-0) released their final injury reports with designations Friday ahead of the Week 1 matchup at Lucas Oil Stadium.

It has been pretty status quo for the Colts this week, though two new names were added to the injury report following Friday’s practice. Still, only one player has a designation going into the weekend.

Here’s a look at the final injury report for the Colts in Week 1:

*DNP = Did Not Participate — LP = Limited Participant — FP = Full Participant*

Player Injury Wed. 9/6 Thur. 9/7 Fri. 9/8 Status
RB Zack Moss Forearm LP LP LP Questionable
LB Shaquille Leonard Concussion FP FP FP
CB Julius Brents Personal DNP
DT DeForest Buckner Forearm LP

Notes

  • DT DeForest Buckner was added to the injury report Friday and was limited at practice but appears ready to play as he’s without a designation.
  • LB Shaquille Leonard is without a designation, but it’s unclear if the Colts will have him on a pitch count for the opener.
  • RB Zack Moss was limited again Friday, marking three consecutive practices with that status. He’s questionable and likely a game-time decision.
  • CB Julius Brents was absent Friday due to a personal reason. He’s without a designation, which suggests he should be active Sunday, but it will still be a situation to monitor.

Here’s a look at the final injury report for the Jaguars in Week 1:

Colts’ Julius Brents misses practice due to personal issue

Colts rookie CB Julius Brents was absent from Friday’s practice due to a personal reason.

The Indianapolis Colts released their final practice report before their first regular season game of the 2023 season.

Second-round pick Julius Brents was not at practice on Friday. Head coach Shane Steichen told the media that Brents was dealing with a personal issue.

“He was gone for a personal reason, but he’ll be back,” said Steichen.

It appears that this reason will not impact Brents’ availability on Sunday for the regular-season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars as he was given no designation on the final injury report and Steichen did not rule anyone out.

Brents, a highly-touted rookie, is still working his way up the depth chart after missing spring workouts due to wrist surgery and a hamstring injury during training camp.

Colts’ injury updates: Shaquille Leonard expected back soon

Here are some injury updates for the Colts following the preseason.

The Indianapolis Colts are through the preseason and now will be focused on cutting down the roster to 53 players ahead of the regular-season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

But before we get to that, head coach Shane Steichen had some updates—and non-updates—on the status of a few Colts players who have been dealing with injuries.

Here are the latest injury updates as the Colts prepare for the start of the regular season:

Oklahoma Sooners among ‘Late Kick’ Josh Pate’s top 20

The Oklahoma Sooners were included in Josh Pate’s top 20.

The [autotag]Oklahoma Sooners[/autotag] have a lot of doubters heading into the 2023 season. Rightfully so as they are coming off a 6-7 season.

Whether you doubt Oklahoma or have faith, there’s one thing for sure, a lot of question marks need to be answered this season. Oklahoma came in at No. No. 19 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and No. 20 in the AP Top 25.

247Sports’ and host of “The Late Kick Show,” Josh Pate provided his preseason top 20 ahead of week zero. Pate made it clear when he does his poll it is a “power rating system.” He also said it has nothing to do with what you did a season ago.

So, with that being said, Pate unveiled his top 20 and Oklahoma came in at No. 19. That’s about the spot Oklahoma should be. They’ll have plenty of opportunities to move up if they take care of business this season.

Pate has two Big 12 teams ahead of them. Everyone’s darling and pick to win the conference, the Texas Longhorns at No. 6, and the national runner-up from a season ago the [autotag]TCU Horned Frogs[/autotag]. TCU comes in at No. 16 despite the loss of Max Duggan, Kendre Miller, and Quentin Johnston.

In a surprise, one team not on the list is the reigning conference champions, [autotag]Kansas State[/autotag]. They lost some key pieces from a year ago like [autotag]Deuce Vaughn[/autotag], Felix Anudike-Uzomah, and [autotag]Julius Brents[/autotag] but they return a ton of talent. They also might have the best coach in the conference.

These preseason polls are fun to discuss and argue with your friends about. Now that we are less than a week away from the start of the football season, it’s time for these teams to prove it on the field.

Ranking CBs in the AFC South entering 2023

Ranking the CBs across the AFC South entering 2023.

The AFC South doesn’t have an elite cornerback entering 2023, but it does feature proven veterans and a mixture of young players that have the skill set to develop into one of the top players at the position.

For this list, I took the two best corners from each team. Let’s take a look at how they rank across the division:

Colts rookie CB Julius Brents makes training camp debut

Julius Brents is making his training camp debut Saturday.

Indianapolis Colts rookie cornerback Julius Brents took the practice field Saturday evening for the first time since training camp commenced in late July.

In fact, Saturday marks the first time Brents has been on the field since the Colts used the No. 44 overall pick on him in the 2023 NFL draft. Brents missed the spring workouts after undergoing wrist surgery and then recently arrived to camp with a hamstring injury.

The Colts have major question marks in the cornerback room considering the wild offseason regarding the position. Brents is expected to be a Week 1 starter on the boundary for Gus Bradley’s defense.

Of course, the rookie will have to prove he’s ready to take on a starting role, but his talent and fit within the scheme should give him a strong chance to do so.

At any rate, it’s encouraging for the defense to see the highly-touted rookie begin practice, and hopefully it marks the beginning of an impactful campaign.

Colts’ 2023 training camp preview: Cornerbacks

Previewing the cornerback position as the Colts enter training camp.

The Indianapolis Colts are set to return for training camp at the Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield with their first practice being held July 26.

Before then, we’ll be previewing each position, giving our takes on the starters, position battles and projected depth chart entering camp under the new regime.

One of the biggest question marks entering Colts camp surrounds the cornerback position. The departure of Stephon Gilmore and the release of Isaiah Rodgers Sr. created a massive void in the room.
