Falcons sign veteran OT Julién Davenport, per report

The Falcons have signed veteran offensive tackle Julién Davenport, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport

The Atlanta Falcons are having players report to training camp on Wednesday, but the front office appears to be making some last-minute roster moves before camp officially kicks off.

According to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Falcons have signed veteran offensive tackle Julién Davenport. The 29-year-old has made 32 starts since being selected by the Houston Texans in the fourth round of the 2017 draft.

Davenport has played for six different NFL teams, last appearing in a regular season game in 2021 for the Indianapolis Colts. He also played in the UFL for the San Antonio Brahmas. Check out the team’s updated 90-man roster entering training camp HERE!

Updated look at Bears offensive line depth after Julién Davenport signing

With Julién Davenport joining the Bears, here’s a look at where Chicago’s offensive line depth stands.

The Chicago Bears signed offensive tackle Julién Davenport to a one-year deal, which makes him the third offensive line move in free agency for general manager Ryan Poles.

The offensive line is one of Chicago’s top needs this offseason as protecting quarterback Justin Fields remains a top priority. While the Bears have added Lucas Patrick, Dakota Dozier and Davenport, there’s still plenty of work to be done.

A former fourth-round pick by the Houston Texans in the 2017 NFL draft, Davenport served as their starting left tackle in 2018. He was sent to the Miami Dolphins as part of the Laremy Tunsil trade, where he played sparingly from 2019-20 before joining the Indianapolis Colts. He’s the latest former Colt to join heads coach Matt Eberflus’ squad.

With the addition of Davenport, here’s a look at the Bears’ offensive line depth:

Report: Bears to sign OT Julién Davenport

The Bears are expected to sign OT Julién Davenport, who had a tryout with the team this week at voluntary minicamp.

The Chicago Bears must have liked what they saw during this week’s tryouts at Halas Hall.

After signing wide receiver David Moore and cornerback Greg Stroman Jr, the Bears are reportedly also signing offensive tackle Julién Davenport, according to Aaron Wilson.

Davenport was drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL draft by the Houston Texans. He became their starting left tackle in 2018 during the Texan’s division title run. He was dealt to the Dolphins that next offseason in the Laremy Tunsil blockbuster trade. He missed half the season in 2019 and played sparingly in 2020.

The 27-year old tackle played last season with the Indianapolis Colts, appearing in nine games with four starts. He allowed four sacks on the season and had a low PFF player grade of 45.3, but now reunites with Matt Eberflus in Chicago.

Davenport was part of a group of linemen the Bears hosted earlier on Thursday for a tryout that included Caleb Benenoch and Trent Scott. He joins the Bears as a potential swing tackle ahead of the 2022 NFL draft, which begins next Thursday, April 28.

7 pending free agents the Colts should let walk

With free agency just over a month away, here are 7 players the Colts should let walk.

The Indianapolis Colts are just over a month away from the new league year opening, which means they’ll have their chances to make moves in free agency.

With a solid standing in the salary-cap department, the Colts can make as many moves as they want. It’s unlikely they will make splash additions, though, even if general manager Chris Ballard readjusts his process a bit when it comes to free agency.

The Colts have a number of players who held impactful roles set to hit the market when the middle of March arrives. We previously took a look at 12 pending free agents they should consider re-signing.

Now, it’s time to take a look at the players the Colts should let walk. This doesn’t mean the team should completely abandon these players but it might be best for them to test the market first in case there is a cheaper, younger and better alternative.

This list won’t include every player that the Colts shouldn’t bring back but instead, we’ll focus on the bigger names set to hit the market.

Here are seven pending free agents the Colts should let walk in 2022:

Colts overcome Cardinals, 22-16: Instant analysis

Instant analysis of the Colts’ 22-16 win over the Cardinals.

The Indianapolis Colts (9-6) were dealt a rough hand all week leading up to this Christmas match-up with the Arizona Cardinals (10-5).

Many of the Colts’ best players, unfortunately, ended up on the reserve/COVID list, some even just hours before kick-off. Many of these names, including Pro-Bowlers Darius Leonard and Quenton Nelson, alongside most of the starting offensive line and other key starters on both sides of the ball would be out for this game and perhaps even the next in a very close playoff race.

It was looking grim for Carson Wentz, Jonathan Taylor, and company to be able to pull off a win in such a difficult spot and missing so many players, but as the team loves to say it’s simply “Next Man Up” and those men had big shoes to fill. For the most part, the guys did just that, and fought hard all game in a sloppy, back and forth brawl that saw Indianapolis narrowly come out on top and keep hopes of a playoff berth, and perhaps a division title alive.

Here’s our instant analysis from this Christmas night victory:

Stock up, Stock down in Colts’ 27-17 win over Dolphins

Stock report from the Colts’ 27-17 win over the Dolphins.

For the first time during the 2021 season, the Indianapolis Colts (1-3) came out on the winning end of a game, defeating the Miami Dolphins (1-3) on Sunday, 27-17, at Hard Rock Stadium.

Facing a familiar face in Jacoby Brissett, the Colts had an advantage knowing there was a good chance the defense would do its job after three concerning weeks. They were able to bottle up the Dolphins offense with relative ease.

Meanwhile, the Colts offense finally looked like a solid unit after a slow start against a Dolphins defense that is still trying to figure itself out.

As is the case every week, the stock report is fluid. Sometimes a player’s stock is the culmination of a trend while it could also be a new narrative we’re keeping an eye on.

Regardless, here’s the stock report from the Colts’ 27-17 win on Sunday:

6 Colts to watch vs. Dolphins in Week 4

Keep an eye on these Colts in the Week 4 matchup with the Dolphins.

The Indianapolis Colts (0-3) are one of the five winless teams across the league and will be looking to end that streak when they visit the Miami Dolphins (1-2) at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.

The Week 4 matchup is a big one for both teams. The Colts are looking to avoid an 0-4 start for the first time since 2011 and only the second time since Peyton Manning’s rookie season in 1998. The Dolphins are coming off of a tough overtime loss against the Las Vegas Raiders.

As the Colts play with their backs against the wall, here are six players to watch in the Week 4 matchup:

Colts PFF grades: Best and worst from Week 2 loss vs. Rams

The best and worst PFF grades from the Colts’ loss in Week 2.

To qualify for these grades, a Colts player must be on the field for at least 20% of his unit’s respective snaps. Here are the best and worst grades from Pro Football Focus in the Week 2 loss:

Stock up, stock down from Colts’ 27-24 loss to Rams

Stock report from the Colts’ 27-24 loss in Week 2.

The Indianapolis Colts (0-2) made a valiant effort in a comeback attempt but ultimately fell against the Los Angeles Rams (2-0) at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 2.

The 27-24 loss marks the first time the Colts have gone 0-2 under head coach Frank Reich with the last time being the 2017 season. The Colts had their chances to be leading for the majority of this contest but couldn’t get out of their own way.

Per usual, it should be stated that the stock report is fluid. It can change week-to-week based on a player’s performance so it’s best to not get too high or too low. Regardless, there were players who helped their stock on Sunday while others saw their stock fall.

Here is the stock report from the Colts’ Week 2 loss:

Studs and duds from Colts’ 27-24 loss to Rams

Here are the studs and duds from the Colts’ 27-24 loss to the Rams.

The Indianapolis Colts (0-2) showed some vigor in working all the way back from a decent deficit on Sunday, but they ultimately fell short in a 27-24 loss against the Los Angeles Rams (2-0) at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Colts continued to deal with self-inflicted wounds while failing to take advantage of their chances to push a touchdown through. It was another poor effort from the offensive line while quarterback Carson Wentz was running for his life.

Here are the studs and duds from the Week 2 loss:
