The Cleveland Browns are in the midst of their organized team activities in Berea, Ohio, but backup quarterback Josh Dobbs isn’t letting the optional workouts get in the way of a good time after organizing a field trip to NASA’s Glenn Research Center on Wednesday.

Located next to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, the Glenn Research Center designs and tests innovative technology to revolutionize air travel, advance space exploration, and improve life on Earth, according to their Twitter page.

11 Browns from both sides of the team’s roster were in attendance for the excursion, including cornerback Mike Ford, linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, receiver Marquise Goodwin, and tight end Harrison Bryant, among others.

News about the trip broke on Twitter late on Thursday when the team posted a link to a slideshow with pictures of Cleveland’s finest football players having a blast at the NASA facility. They stood in the wind tunnel, took pictures with robots and airplanes, and seemed to have a great time as they bonded away from the Browns’ practice facilities.

They have Dobbs to thank for the much-needed break from the hard work the team has been putting in at practices, and if the photos of the event are any indication, everyone who participated is sure to have come away from the experience with plenty of great stories,

Ex-Lions QB Josh Dobbs heads back to the Browns

Cross another name off the list of potential backups for Goff, who remains the only QB on the Lions roster

Cross another name off the list of potential backups behind starting quarterback Jared Goff. Josh Dobbs, who spent some of 2022 on the Lions’ practice squad, is signing with the Cleveland Browns.

Dobbs came to Detroit from Cleveland after the Brown waived him to activate Deshaun Watson. The 28-year-old Dobbs spent three weeks on the Lions practice squad before being signed to the active roster of the Tennessee Titans. Dobbs quickly supplanted rookie Malik Willis as the replacement starter and played well enough to consider as a full-time backup.

He’s the latest in a rapidly dwindling group of potential reserve QBs to sign with a team. The Lions currently have Goff as the only quarterback on the 90-man roster.

Browns, former Titans QB Josh Dobbs agree to one-year deal

Former Titans QB Josh Dobbs has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Browns.

Tennessee Titans free-agent quarterback Joshua Dobbs will not be back in Nashville in 2023, as the signal-caller has agreed to a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns.

The news comes from Dobbs’ agent, Mike McCartney, who did not reveal the financial terms of the contract. This will be Dobbs’ second stint with the Browns after he spent time with them in 2022.

The Titans not holding on to Dobbs is a bit surprising.

After all, he played well in an impossible situation last season, and did so basically off the straight, making his first-career start just eight days following his arrival in Tennessee.

Dobbs figured to be a solid option to give Malik Willis competition behind whoever is the starter.

With Dobbs gone, the Titans have two quarterbacks on their current roster in Ryan Tannehill, who isn’t certain to return, and Willis, who now becomes the lone option for the backup job as of this moment. Look for Tennessee to add some form of competition for the Liberty product, though.

Browns bring back backup QB Josh Dobbs on one-year deal

The Browns bring back a familiar face

As the Cleveland Browns started Jacoby Brissett, who just signed with the Washington Commanders, for 11 games in 2022, Josh Dobbs served as his backup at that time. When Deshaun Watson returned from his suspension, however, the Browns released Dobbs in favor of keeping Kellen Mond on the roster. Now, as NFL free agency enters its second week, the Browns have brought Dobbs back to compete with Mond for the role of Watson’s backup.

After departing from Cleveland in 2022, Dobbs went on to start two games for the Tennessee Titans over rookie Malik Willis. In that two-game span, Dobbs threw for over 400 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. It is safe to assume the Browns are not done yet as well.

5 free agent QBs who should interest the Lions as a backup for Jared Goff

Having a ready and capable backup for Goff is important for Detroit now that expectations for the team are higher.

The Detroit Lions have their starting quarterback in Jared Goff. But entering the 2023 offseason, Goff is the only quarterback under contract for the upcoming season. Detroit doesn’t even have a QB under a reserve/futures deal.

The Lions will add at least two quarterbacks this offseason via the draft or free agency to at least get through the preseason and training camp. Having a ready and capable backup for Goff is important for Detroit now that expectations for the team are higher.

Paying for a backup QB is a necessary function of being a good football team. Not overpaying for an insurance policy is critical. Here are some free agent options that should fit the bill for Detroit.

Overturned call in Bills-Bengals re-ignites Josh Dobbs fumble debate

A Josh Allen pass that was first ruled a fumble and then overturned re-ignited the debate about Josh Dobbs’ Week 18 fumble against the Jaguars.

During the Divisional Round game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals, a play in the fourth quarter helped re-ignite the debate about the Josh Dobbs fumble in the Tennessee Titans’ Week 18 loss.

Of course, the Dobbs fumble changed the entire game, as the Jacksonville Jaguars were able to score what was the game-winning touchdown off it, helping eliminate the Titans in the process.

The play in question on Sunday occurred in the fourth quarter, when a fumble was called on a Josh Allen pass that was ultimately ruled an incomplete pass upon review.

Afterwards, Twitter recalled the Dobbs fumble and compared the two, and it’s clear the same ruling should’ve been made in Titans-Jaguars. Thanks to AtoZ Sports Nashville, we have a side-by-side of the two plays.

As you can see, the two clips are nearly identical, yet Allen’s was called an incomplete pass and Dobbs’ wasn’t. Here’s how Twitter reacted.

Pending free agents Titans should re-sign this offseason

The pending free agents the Titans should re-sign this offseason.

The Tennessee Titans will have several difficult decisions to make over the coming months, both in the front office, coaching staff, and on the roster.

For starters, they first need to hire the general manager that’s going to be responsible for making these crucial decisions regarding the roster. That process has already gotten under way, but several of these personnel decisions won’t be resolved for several more weeks.

From there, the Titans will have to hire a new offensive coordinator to replace Todd Downing, which could also have an impact on how the team approaches this offseason, at least on the offensive side of the ball.

We’ve already covered the players under contract for 2023 who the Titans should consider parting ways with in a previous article.

Now, it’s time to be a bit more positive and discuss which pending free agents could have possibly earned themselves another year in Tennessee.

What Titans said about loss to Jags: Jeffery Simmons gets emotional

Titans DL Jeffery Simmons got emotional when reflecting on a 2022 season that saw him battle through injury to try and stay on the field for his team.

The Tennessee Titans’ 2022 season finally came to an end on Saturday night after a defeat at the hands of the Jacksonville Jaguars that ended the Titans’ two-year run as AFC South champions.

For a team that wasn’t expected to do much in Week 18, the Titans still found a way to break their fans’ hearts, as Tennessee was staked to a 16-13 lead late in the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately, a Jaguars sack led to a Josh Dobbs fumble that Jacksonville was able to recover and return for six. At the very least, the ruling of a fumble was questionable, and confirmed way too quickly.

After the game was over, Titans defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons got emotional when reflecting on the 2022 campaign.

Simmons’ play dipped as the season went along, but he was also playing hurt for more than half of the campaign. Hats off to him for doing everything he could to stay on the field for his team while the rest of his teammates were dropping like flies around him.

Now, a look at what else the Titans had to say about the season-ending loss to the Jaguars that will lead to an offseason in which the Titans have several questions to answer.

Titans’ Josh Dobbs on fumble vs. Jags: My arm ‘was going forward’

Titans QB Josh Dobbs believes his arm was going forward on the game-changing fumble against the Jaguars on Saturday night.

In what was no doubt the biggest play of the game, the Jacksonville Jaguars forced a fumble on Tennessee Titans quarterback Josh Dobbs late in the fourth quarter that the Jags were able to return for a touchdown, which proved to be the game-winner.

But, was it really a fumble?

On the crucial play, Dobbs’ arm was going forward, and eventually so did the ball, which led many to question if it should have been ruled a fumble in the first place.

At the very least, the play deserved more scrutiny, but it was confirmed on the field rather quickly, allowing the game-changing play to stand.

“I felt like [my arm] was going forward but the refs got to make a call,” said Dobbs. “Personally, I wish I got the ball off a little quicker… I just got to get the ball out quicker, feel that rush — especially at that point in the game — and keep us in a better situation.”

Despite his issues, Dobbs almost did enough for the Titans to win this game, but the same old issues on offense were just too much to overcome, especially in the second half, when the unit completely fell flat after a very good first half.

As far as his future is concerned, Dobbs said he’s open to staying with the Titans — and the team would be wise to explore keeping him as a backup option for 2023.

Titans fall short vs. Jaguars, miss playoffs: Everything we know

The Titans fell just short on Saturday night, losing to the Jaguars, 20-16.

The Tennessee Titans officially completed their collapse in the AFC South in Week 18 after dropping the Saturday night contest to the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are now AFC South champs, 20-16.

Despite nobody expecting the Titans to win, it was a heart-breaking defeat, as Tennessee held a 16-13 lead with three minutes left in the contest before Josh Dobbs was sacked and fumbled, leading to a defensive touchdown for the Jaguars, giving them a 20-16 lead.

The Titans would have crack at re-taking the lead but failed to convert, allowing the Jags to kneel out the clock and secure the division title.

It was a valiant effort by an injury-plagued and very flawed Titans team, and credit to Dobbs for giving this team a chance, but in the end it just fell short of being good enough.

Now, for the final time this season, let’s dive a bit deeper into what went right and what went wrong in the Titans’ year-ending loss.
