Social media reacts to Oklahoma Softball’s 10th straight Big 12 regular season title

Some of the best social media reactions to the Oklahoma Sooners 6-0 win over Oklahoma State for their 10th straight Big 12 regular season title.

10 consecutive Big 12 regular-season titles. It’s a feat as grand as [autotag]Jocelyn Alo[/autotag]’s all-time home run record. And it’s fitting that the two have gone hand in hand for Alo’s tenure with the Oklahoma Sooners.

On Friday night, the Oklahoma Sooners clinched the Big 12 regular-season title with a 6-0 win over Oklahoma State. [autotag]Hope Trautwein[/autotag] pitched 5.1 scoreless innings to lower her NCAA-leading ERA once more and [autotag]Jordy Bahl[/autotag] pitched 1.2 innings to finish off the Cowgirls in Norman.

Oklahoma Sooners head coach [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag] was on hand for the championship-clinching performance and threw out the ceremonial first pitch before joining the Sooners in their pre-game huddle around the pitcher’s circle.

The Oklahoma Sooners now set their sites on the Big 12 tournament title and the College World Series.

Before the Sooners close out the regular season with their finale against Oklahoma State on Saturday, let’s look at some of the best social media reactions from Oklahoma’s championship-clinching win.

Oklahoma Sooners beat Oklahoma State 6-0 to clinch 10th consecutive Big 12 regular season title

The Oklahoma Sooners beat Oklahoma State 6-0 to clinch the Big 12 regular season title with another standout performance from Hope Trautwein

The road to the Big 12 Conference trophy will yet again run through Norman as the unanimous No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners clinched the regular-season title with a win over the No. 7 Oklahoma State Cowgirls 6-0.

Since losing to the Texas Longhorns, OU has won nine straight games and allowed only six runs in that same span.

With head football coach Brent Venables in attendance to throw out the first pitch, the best softball team in the world put on an absolute show once again.

[autotag]Hope Trautwein[/autotag] picked up her 14th win of the season in 5.1 shutout innings with four strikeouts. Freshman phenom [autotag]Jordy Bahl[/autotag] came in to finish the job in the sixth.

Bahl struck out two batters in the remaining 1.2 innings of the game. Pitching once again revealed it’s a strength for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Oklahoma State threatened early with two hits in the first inning, but Bahl ended up stranding both baserunners.

The Cowgirls only managed one hit after the early start as Trautwein buckled down and controlled the game.

Since losing to Texas, the Sooners have thrown five shutouts.

The game was tied at zero through the top of the third, then the Sooners’ offense made some noise.

Alyssa Brito singled home a run, Jana Johns walked with the bases loaded and then Kinzie Hansen hit a three run double to clear the bases.

With two wins against the Cowgirls, OU has now won 28 of their last 29 against their Bedlam rivals. Their only loss since 2011 was last year in Stillwater. Oklahoma has won 10 straight Big 12 regular-season titles and this is their 14th overall.

The regular season finale is tomorrow in Norman at 4 p.m. CST.

Best photos from Oklahoma’s 7-1 Bedlam win over Oklahoma State on Thursday night

Take a look back at the Oklahoma Sooners’ 7-1 win over Oklahoma State in the first game of their Bedlam series from Thursday night.

In a duel between USA Softball National Player of the Year Top 10 finalists, Jordy Bahl and Kelly Maxwell made the two sides in the opener of the work in the opening frames of Bedlam Thursday night. Bahl and Maxwell kept the offenses at bay through the first two innings of the game.

That changed for the Sooners in the bottom of the third as they began to mount pressure against Oklahoma State pitcher Kelly Maxwell leading to four runs in the bottom of the third. Jordy Bahl took advantage of the run support and continued her excellent true freshman campaign.

In her seven innings pitched, Bahl struck out six Cowgirls and didn’t walk a batter. She attacked all evening, getting ahead of hitters and not allowing Oklahoma State to string together much of an offensive attack.

The Sooners’ offense got going in the third thanks to an RBI single from Jocelyn Alo, followed by a three-run home run by Tiare Jennings. They came through in the clutch, scoring all of their runs with two outs in the frame.

No Sooner collected more than two hits in the game, but they were buoyed by six walks from Maxwell. Oklahoma made Maxwell throw 138 pitches on the evening compared to an efficient 87 for Bahl.

Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will go back to the diamond on Friday night for game two of Bedlam. If the Sooners are able to pull out another victory, they’ll clinch the Big 12 regular-season title for the 10 straight season and 14th time in school history.

Let’s take a look back at the big win from Thursday night in stunning still images.

Jordy Bahl goes 7 innings, Tiare Jennings homers in Oklahoma’s 7-1 win over Oklahoma State

Jordy Bahl dazzled for seven strong innings and the Sooners’ offense took off in the fourth to beat Oklahoma State 7-1 on Thursday night.

The Oklahoma Sooners took the first game in their three-game series with rival Oklahoma State 7-1 on Thursday night behind seven strong innings of work from star true freshman pitcher [autotag]Jordy Bahl[/autotag]. [autotag]Tiare Jennings[/autotag] provided a three-run blast and eight of nine Sooners starters reached base in the impressive win over the Cowgirls.

Bahl, in her first Bedlam matchup, put the Sooners one win away from clinching their 10th consecutive Big 12 regular-season title with a complete-game performance. On the evening, she allowed just four hits and one earned run over seven innings. The run came in the fifth inning after Bahl was staked to a 5-0 lead.

[autotag]Jocelyn Alo[/autotag] got the scoring going with an RBI single in the third inning. Later in the frame, Tiare Jennings put Oklahoma ahead in a big way with her three-run home run to give the Sooners a commanding 4-0 lead.

And while Alo and Jennings plated the Sooners’ first runs of the games with their at-bats, it was [autotag]Jana Johns[/autotag]’ work in a 12-pitch at-bat that turned the tide for the Sooners against Oklahoma State ace and National Player of the Year top 10 finalist [autotag]Kelly Maxwell[/autotag].

Oklahoma now sits one game in front of Oklahoma State for the Big 12 regular-season title. With a win on Friday night in the second leg of the series, the Sooners will clinch the Big 12 regular-season title and take the top seed in the Big 12 tournament.

Trio of Sooners top 10 finalists for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award

Jocelyn Alo, Jordy Bahl, and Grace Lyons were named among the top 10 finalists for the 2022 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award.

Oklahoma Sooners softball has had a tremendous 2022 in search of back-to-back national championships. They’re 45-1, the No. 1 team in the nation, and heading into Bedlam, the favorite to advance to the College World Series and win the whole thing.

Jocelyn Alo has been the headliner in her record-breaking season. She once again leads the Sooners in home runs and batting average. Alo is looking to become the second Sooner since Keilani Ricketts to win the award in back-to-back seasons. Ricketts won the award in 2012 and 2013 and was a member of the 2013 national championship team.

She’s having a tremendous year and is one of three Sooners to be named finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award.

But her season isn’t the only one that’s defined Oklahoma softball in 2022. The breakout year from Grace Lyons has been a key factor in the Sooners’ offense remaining deadly even as Alo gets walked or has an off day at the plate. And Lyons has come up clutch throughout the year as well, with multi-home run games and walk-off hits.

Though the offense carries a lot of the headlines, Jordy Bahl’s arrival to Norman has headlined a pitching staff that has been dominant in 2022. Bahl has become the ace of the staff, appearing in a team-leading 28 games and holds a 20-1 record with 191 strikeouts. The standout freshman has also been nominated for the NFCA National Freshman of the Year award for her performance in 2022.

The award will be narrowed to three finalists on May 18 and announced prior to the start of the College World Series, slated to begin on June 2 at the USA Softball complex in Oklahoma City.

Here’s a look at the 10 finalists.

Oklahoma’s Jordy Bahl named NFCA National Freshman of the Year Finalist

Oklahoma Sooners’ freshman phenom Jordy Bahl has been named a finalist for the NFCA’s National Freshman of the Year.

The Oklahoma Sooners pitcher has already made a name for herself in a very crowded Norman sports landscape. Jordy Bahl’s dominance has not gone unnoticed as the phenom has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s list as a finalist for Freshman of the Year. She was the only Big 12 player to make the list. Of the 25 finalists, five of them are pitchers.

Bahl is life.

Bahl has been nothing short of dominant in her first season with the team as she’s holds a 0.98 ERA and a record of 18-1.

She’s been an absolute force on the mound, throwing a perfect game and a no-hitter already in her short time in Norman.

Bahl was the No. 1 prospect in the 2021 class and has already made sure to show Sooners fans that she is worthy of such a distinction.

Here’s another crazy Jordy Bahl stat: she’s giving up less than half a hit per inning. Not run per inning. Hit per inning. She also has 181 strikeouts to 25 walks.

Bahl has already established herself on what has been the best pitching staff in the nation. Her ERA is ranked eighth in the country.

With [autotag]Tiare Jennings[/autotag]’ win last year, should Bahl win the award, Oklahoma will be the first program in NCAA softball history to have back-to-back winners of the honor. [autotag]Jocelyn Alo[/autotag] won it back in 2018 for the Sooners.

The winner of the award will be determined on May 3 after the list is trimmed down to the top three players.

Oklahoma Softball sweeps double-header against Iowa State 6-4, 9-0

Oklahoma Softball improved to 41-1 with a pair of wins on Friday night against Iowa State.

The Oklahoma Sooners (41-1) claimed a pair of wins on Friday night to start their three-game series against the Iowa State Cyclones. In their 6-4 and 9-0 wins, the Sooners moved to 41-1 on the season and have a three-game winning streak going since last weekend’s loss to the Texas Longhorns.

The Cyclones came out swinging in game one, jumping out to an early lead in the top of the third. [autotag]Jordy Bahl[/autotag], in her first start since losing to the Texas Longhorns in Austin, allowed four runs through 5.1 innings of work while striking out seven batters. Bahl earned her 18th win of the year, moving her record to 18-1.

The Sooners would not trail again on Friday after the top of the third in game one.

OU came alive in the bottom of the third, rattling off a pair of RBI singles. The final exclamation point in the inning was a two-run homer run by Jana Johns. Johns became the sixth OU hitter to reach double-figures in home runs for 2022.

The Cyclones would do some damage in the top of the sixth, but OU would stay ahead to win game one 6-4.

Game two wasn’t as close.

The Sooners’ bats came alive for three home runs in the second game, courtesy of Alyssa Brito, Lynnsie Elam, and Rylie Boone. Brito and Elam now have 12 home runs on the season and the homer was Boone’s second of the season.

Hope Trautwein was nearly untouchable as she allowed only one hit through in another complete-game victory. Trautwein struck out three batters while walking none. She’s now 12-0 on the season. In the shutout win, she lowered her NCAA-leading ERA to 0.10 on the season.

As usual Marita Hynes Field was filled to capacity, but there was some extra buzz in the air for this doubleheader.

Home Run Village returned.

A free section sitting in the outfield, Home Run Village allows more fans to have a game-day experience at OU Softball games.

The experience will return for tomorrow’s finale against Iowa State and when Oklahoma State comes to Norman for the second series of Bedlam softball.

Their 9-0 win in the second leg of the double-header was their 33rd run-rule win of the season and their 24th shutout through 42 games this season. They had 24 shutouts and 35 run-rule wins in 60 games in their national championship run in 2021.

Sooners bats kept in check, drop finale to Texas Longhorns 4-2 in Red River series win

Oklahoma Softball drops its first game of the season in a 4-2 loss to Hailey Dolcini and the Texas Longhorns.

Through four innings on Saturday, [autotag]Jordy Bahl[/autotag] and Hailey Dolcini were putting on a repeat performance of the Thursday night opener of the Red River series in Austin. In that matchup, Bahl and the Oklahoma Sooners came out on top in the 3-0 win over the Texas Longhorns. On Saturday, however, it was Dolcini and the Longhorns who would come away with the win.

The Longhorns hold the distinction of handing the Sooners their first loss of the season and ending a 40-game winning streak dating back to the championship of the 2021 College Softball World Series. Oklahoma started the season 38-0, a new record, and are now 38-1 after a tough loss to Texas.

Dolcini carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, keeping Oklahoma’s stout offense off-balance all afternoon. In the seventh, after getting the first out of the game, [autotag]Jayda Coleman[/autotag] broke up the no-hitter with a single. It was the third time she’d reach base on the day after getting hit by a pitch twice in the close matchup.

After Coleman got on to attempt a late rally, [autotag]Kinzie Hansen[/autotag] drove her in with her seventh home run of the season to make the game 4-2. And that’s where it would stay as Dolcini closed it out to give Oklahoma their only blemish on the season.

Though she picked up the first loss of her Sooners career, Jordy Bahl pitched well and battled through some tough spots. She had nine strikeouts and three walks, and allowed three earned runs in the matchup. It was the first time in 21 games that Oklahoma’s pitching staff had allowed more than one run in a game.

Oklahoma’s top of the order of Tiare Jennings, Jocelyn Alo, and Grace Lyons were a combined 0-9 in the game and 3 for 28 in the series. While the Oklahoma Sooners boast a deep lineup, they have to get more from their top three hitters as they move forward.

Head Coach Patty Gasso spoke after the loss. “To be realistic, we weren’t going to go undefeated through the season. It was just a matter of time,” Gasso told SoonerSports.com. “We got outplayed, and that’s exactly why we have our first loss. They earned it. They played well, their pitcher was fantastic and they did everything right. That’s what it came down too. We take this back to Norman and we refine and we get better. That’s what you do with losses.”

It was improbable that the Oklahoma Sooners were going to go undefeated. There are too many good teams in college softball and all it takes is an opposing pitcher to get hot to take you out of the game. And that’s what happened here. Hailey Dolcini pitched a near-perfect game and the Longhorns took advantage of some miscues by the Oklahoma Sooners defense.

But that shouldn’t take away from the tremendous run they’ve been on this season or dampen expectations either. This is a learning opportunity for Patty Gasso’s crew and they’ll be up for the challenges they’ll face as the season progresses.

Oklahoma Sooners sweep Texas Tech with 21-0 win, set NCAA record

The Oklahoma Sooners complete their three game sweep on record-setting fashion with a 21-0 win over Texas Tech.

Patty Gasso and the Oklahoma Sooners softball program continue to set the new standard for excellence with each passing day. With their 21-0 win today, the Sooners moved to 36-0, setting a new NCAA record for best start to the season.

The Sooners jumped on top of Texas Tech early and often hitting seven home runs, including two by Jocelyn Alo and grand slam by Tiare Jennings.

Jordy Bahl and Nicole May combined for a no hitter over five innings and the Sooners secured their 30th run-rule win of the season.

After Tiare Jennings struck out to open the game, Jocelyn Alo doubled and Kinzie Hansen hit the first of Oklahoma’s seven home runs to kickoff the scoring. The Sooners would go on to score 13 runs in the first two innings to leave no doubt about the outcome of their matchup with Texas Tech.

Alo’s two home runs now give her 21 on the season. Grace Lyons continued her incredible run with her 17th home run of the year and Jennings now has 16 after her fifth inning grand slam. Alyssa Brito and Jana Johns also went deep for Oklahoma who is on pace to break the single season home run mark they set a year ago.

In the Sooners three-game sweep of Texas Tech, Oklahoma outscored the Red Raiders 43-0.

Oklahoma now prepares for a Red River Series in Austin starting Thursday against the Texas Longhorns, who are a consensus top 20 team in the country.

Sooners beat Texas Tech 11-0, Oklahoma Softball off to best start in program history

The Oklahoma Sooners are off to the best start in program history as the crimson and cream defeated Texas Tech in an 11-0.

The Oklahoma Sooners are off to their best start in program history as the Crimson and Cream defeated Texas Tech in an 11-0 victory to improve to 33-0 on the season. Friday’s win was their 28th victory by run rule.

That is now 28 straight wins for OU against the Red Raiders. The Sooners haven’t lost to Texas Tech since 2012

To put it mildly, Jocelyn Alo had a day with three homes runs and four RBIs. Alo now has 19 home runs on the season and 107 for her career.

So far.

Alo accounted for half of the home runs the Sooners had against the Red Raiders. Grace Lyons hit a pair of solo shots and Tiare Jennings hit a three run homer.

Jordy Bahl was on the bump for the Sooners, and she was nothing short of dominant in her 15th win of the season.

The right-handed freshman struck out five and walked one through five innings of work. Bahl is now sitting at a 0.71 ERA on the season with a 0.659 WHIP.

Not Bad.

OU is now 4-0 in Big 12 play and undoubtedly hope to be 6-0 by the end of this series.

The Sooners and Red Raiders will be back again tomorrow at noon for game two in this three game series. After Texas Tech, the Red River Rivalry will be renewed in Austin against the no. 15 Texas Longhorns on April 14.
