Ohio State misses on 2024 Texas safety

On to the next one #GoBucks

Although [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] was a finalist for Texas safety [autotag]Jordon Johnson-Rubell[/autotag], it was seen as a battle for the Buckeyes against a Texas lean for his commitment.

The Longhorns won out. Johnson-Rubell made pledged to Texas on Saturday afternoon. The 5-foot, 10-inch, 180-pound member of the secondary is ranked as No. 11 at his position and No. 134 overall on the 247Sports compositees.

Although the Buckeyes already have a commitment from Jaylen McClain at safety, they were looking to add at least one, possibly two more to the 2024 recruiting class. The coaching staff will turn its focus to KJ Bolden, [autotag]Zaquan Patterson[/autotag] and the potential flip of Georgia commit, Peyton Woodyard.

2024 IMG Academy four-star safety commits to Texas over Michigan

Best of luck to him.

No one really had a bead on what was going on with 2024 Bradenton (Florida) IMG Academy four-star safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell until recent weeks.

He had no 247Sports crystal ball predictions, but many thought he may be an Ohio State lean. That is, until he visited Ann Arbor early in June. Then, suddenly, the “what ifs” started circulating. He visited Columbus a week later, and it was still unclear what he was going to do.

That is, until he went to Texas for a visit to close his tour of official visits, then it became clear.

He made good on the predictions that rolled in afterward by pledging to be a Longhorn on Saturday.

Michigan already has a safety pledge in the 2024 class, four-star Jacob Oden from local Harper Woods (Mich.). But Oden is the only defensive back pledged in this recruiting cycle and viable options are flying off the board.

Decisions and dates to watch for Texas recruiting targets

Both Parker Livingstone and Jordon Johnson-Rubell decide which college to attend on Saturday.

Decisions are approaching for multiple Texas targets. Many of those players in question are likely to choose the Longhorns in the next few months.

Some of the bigger name targets might have a longer timeline. Edge rusher Colin Simmons, cornerback Kobe Black and receiver Ryan Wingo are all five-star talents who have been given Texas predictions. Ultimately, the latter two seem likely to choose the Longhorns but their decisions might not be imminent.

There are a few players whose decisions could come soon. Wide receiver Parker Livingtone, safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell and tight end Jordan Washington appear likely to decide in the next few days.

Here’s a look at Texas targets who are already set to decide along with their decision dates.

Michigan football safety target sets decision date

Fingers crossed! #GoBlue

Michigan football has had mixed fortunes in recruiting of late, and it’s hoping things will turn around in short order.

On Wednesday, the Wolverines managed to get four-star linebacker Jeremiah Beasley in the fold, but they’re trending away with offensive tackle Michael Uini, who appeared to be a silent commitment, as well as defensive tackle Deyvid Palepale, and are waiting on a handful of top targets to announce soon — such as Cincinnati, Ohio-based cornerback Teryhon Nichols and Springfield, Ohio’s Aaron Scott.

In the meantime, a big target who visited Ann Arbor in recent weeks is set to make his decision, as Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell announced he’ll be choosing between Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, and TCU on Saturday, July 1.

Johnson-Rubell is listed as the No. 133 prospect nationally per the 247Sports Composite. While the Wolverines did seem to make some solid movement in his recruitment, currently Texas is considered the favorite with four 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions.

Ohio State 2024 safety target from Texas will commit on Saturday

Could there be a BOOM on Saturday? #GoBucks

In the middle of June, [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] hosted Texas native [autotag]Jordon Johnson-Rubell[/autotag] for an official visit.

The 5-foot, 10-inch, 180 pound member of the secondary had a good visit and now he has set his commitment date for this Saturday. Although Johnson-Rubell doesn’t play his high school football in the Lone Star state, he made the move to IMG Academy and Buckeyes fans are extremely familiar with the Florida powerhouse program.

Johnson-Rubell, the No. 10 ranked safety and 133rd overall player according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings will choose from four schools: TCU, Texas, Michigan and Ohio State. He will make his selection live with Rivals on their YouTube page at 1:00 p.m. ET.

At the current moment, Ohio State has just one commit at the position, Jaylen McClain and are looking for at least one more to round out the 2024 class.

Former Michigan football great shouts out elite 2024 DB on official visit

Respect! #GoBlue

When you attend Bradenton (Florida) IMG Academy, chances are, if you’re a football player, you’re a high-profile player. The school has churned out some of the best recruits in the country, and Michigan football has reeled in several over the course of the years — J.J. McCarthy, DJ Turner and Greg Crippen are names that come to mind.

The Wolverines are hosting a standout from IMG Academy this weekend: four-star safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell. While taking in the views at Schembechler Hall as well as around Ann Arbor, Johnson-Rubell shouted out former Michigan viper Jabrill Peppers, a former five-star prospect who sent shockwaves through the recruiting landscape when he committed to the maize and blue in the 2014 class.

Peppers replied, showing the mutual respect between the current NFL player and the aspiring one.

The scouting report from 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins:

A versatile defensive back that made key plays at key moments as a junior for IMG Academy, like his pick six against St. Frances Academy. Has been deployed primarily as a safety at the national powerhouse, but has some experience working at cornerback and has shown that he can be rather effective as a slot defender. Measured just under 5-foot-10, 165 pounds in Spring of 2022. Might be on the smaller side, but plays bigger than the numbers suggest as he’s physical in the hole and comfortable carrying out tasks near the line of scrimmage. Looser hips allow him to mirror pass catchers of all different sizes while foot speed (clocked a laser-timed 4.6 in the 40-yard as an underclassman) helps him close gaps and get from hash to hash. Does a nice job of locating the football on deeper shots and will fight his way to the catch point on shorter routes. Should be viewed as a multi-year starter type of talent that can be utilized in a number of different ways. Will likely need some time before he’s ready to go on Saturdays, but range and instincts could lead to early playing time, especially if body keeps maturing.

Johnson-Rubell is the No. 118 player in the country according to the 247Sports composite. Texas is the presumed leader, and he’ll visit Austin on June 23. He visits Ohio State on June 16 and visited USC on June 2.

Michigan football lands in the top five for four-star safety

#Michigan makes another top group for an elite player! #GoBlue

Michigan football is garnering significant interest from big recruits around the country. The Wolverines recently learned they would host the top-ranked running back in the 2024 cycle among those coming to Ann Arbor for official visits in June.

On Tuesday, Michigan learned it had made the top five for four-star safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell when he took to Twitter. TCU, Texas, USC and Ohio State are the other four in Johnson-Rubell’s final five.

The 5-foot-10 safety plays his high school football at Bradenton (Florida) IMG Academy.

According to the 247Sports composite, Johnson-Rubell is the 118th-ranked recruit in the 2024 cycle, the ninth-ranked safety, and the 17th-ranked prospect in Florida.

It appears the Longhorns have the inside track at landing Johnson-Rubell. Texas has one crystal ball prediction on 247Sports for him. On3’s recruiting prediction machine gives Texas a 90.8% chance to land his services.

Here is Andrew Ivins’ scouting report on Johnson-Rubell on 247Sports:

A versatile defensive back that made key plays at key moments as a junior for IMG Academy, like his pick six against St. Frances Academy. Has been deployed primarily as a safety at the national powerhouse, but has some experience working at cornerback and has shown that he can be rather effective as a slot defender.
