Utah TV reporter hilariously interviews Jazz’s Jordan Clarkson without realizing who he was

Wouldn’t you know it? Jordan Clarkson goes to a lot of Jazz games.

Jordan Clarkson is a good sport, on and off the basketball court.

Coming off a career-best year for the Utah Jazz, which earned him the Sixth Man of the Year award earlier in the spring, Clarkson is a pretty big name in the Salt Lake City area. Unfortunately, KUTV reporter Hayley Crombleholme didn’t realize she was talking to Clarkson on the street when doing a feature on the Jazz on Friday.

What resulted is a hilarious and almost surreal scene as Clarkson is interviewed like a regular person on the street. Only after the interview had transpired is when Crombleholme realized her mistake, and owned up to it too on Twitter!

Honestly, major props here to Clarkson for absolutely rolling with it and taking it in stride. Clearly this was an honest mistake from Crombleholme and he graciously goes along with it, resulting in this hilarious but also heartwarming tale.

One of my favorite parts of this story is Crombleholme’s tweets after the fact, and that Clarkson also jumped in on Twitter with some good-natured jokes about the entire thing.

As someone who has interviewed many players in my time, this is absolutely my worst nightmare, so kudos to everyone here for having a good laugh about it at the end of the day. Here’s hoping Crombleholme gets sent on Jazz duty again later in the season and we get a follow up on this hilarious moment.

Joe Ingles surprised Jazz teammate Jordan Clarkson with Sixth Man of the Year award during interview

What a wonderful moment between Jazz teammates.

Jordan Clarkson got quite the surprise during his joint interview with Utah Jazz teammate Joe Ingles on TNT on Monday. Ahead of the awarding of the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year trophy, Clarkson and Ingles were being interviewed by TNT host Ernie Johnson when something unexpected occurred.

Johnson asked both Clarkson and Ingles how many Jazz players had won the Sixth Man of the Year award, with Clarkson saying none and Ingles saying one. The two looked at each other before Ingles pointed to Clarkson, indicating that his teammate had won the award.

It’s an incredibly touching and heartwarming moment between Clarkson and Ingles, as the former was in overwhelmed disbelief while the latter was overjoyed to hype up his teammate.

Both Clarkson and Ingles were, in fact, nominated for the award together, as was New York Knicks guard Derrick Rose. However, Clarkson received 65 first place votes to finish at the top while Ingles received 34 first place votes and finished in second. It is also the first time that two teammates went one-two in voting for the Sixth Man of the Year award.

The NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award is given to the league’s best performing player for his team coming off the bench as a substitute. This year, Clarkson averaged a career-high 18.4 points, 4 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 68 games this season as the Jazz secured the top spot in the Western Conference.

What a moment between two teammates!

Jazz at Rockets: Lineups, injury reports and broadcast info for Wednesday

Utah’s record (43-15) is the perfect inverse of Houston’s mark (15-43). Even with Donovan Mitchell sidelined, the Jazz are big favorites.

In a battle between the NBA’s best and worst teams by current records, the Rockets host the Jazz on Wednesday night at Toyota Center. Utah’s 43-15 mark is the perfect inverse of Houston’s 15-43 record, and the Jazz also lead the league with a +9.2 point differential per game.

The one silver lining for Houston could be that the Jazz aren’t at full strength, since All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell is out with a right ankle sprain. However, that’s of limited consolation to Stephen Silas, whose Rockets still have six potential rotation players sidelined.

As expected, Houston’s injury report for Wednesday still lists DJ Augustin (left ankle), Sterling Brown (left knee), Dante Exum (right calf), Eric Gordon (right groin), Danuel House Jr. (right ankle), and David Nwaba (right wrist) as out. Utah’s injury report is less extensive in volume, listing only Mitchell and Udoka Azubuike (right ankle) as out. Ersan Ilyasova is questionable with left hamstring tightness.

Here’s when you should tune in to see Wednesday’s game:

  • Date: Wednesday, April 23
  • Time: 7 p.m. Central
  • TV Channel: AT&T SportsNet Southwest
  • Live stream: fuboTV (watch for free in Houston markets)

Probable starting lineups

Houston Rockets (15-43)

  • Guard: John Wall
  • Guard: Kevin Porter Jr.
  • Forward: Jae’Sean Tate
  • Forward: Kelly Olynyk
  • Center: Christian Wood

Utah Jazz (43-15)

  • Guard: Mike Conley
  • Guard: Joe Ingles
  • Forward: Bojan Bogdanovic
  • Forward: Royce O’Neale
  • Center: Rudy Gobert

The Jazz also have a potential NBA Sixth Man of the Year award winner coming off the bench in Jordan Clarkson, who averages 17.4 points in 25.9 minutes. With Mitchell out, Clarkson’s scoring total actually leads a balanced and deep Utah squad, with six players averaging at least 12 points per game. It would be a shocker if that isn’t enough in Houston.

If there’s any hope of an upset, it likely comes in the form of improved play by Kevin Porter Jr., a second-year guard for the Rockets. During Houston’s recently completed road trip in Florida, Porter averaged 20.0 points (48.3% FG, 50.0% on 3-pointers) and 5.0 assists per game, and he played a key role in Sunday’s rare victory at Orlando. However, the Jazz are clearly in a different class than the lowly Magic (18-39).

It’s worth noting that Porter did play well in his earlier meeting with Utah, posting 27 points and 8 assists on March 12 in Salt Lake City. However, it still wasn’t enough for the Rockets to get the victory.

Jazz at Lakers: Prediction, point spread, odds, over/under, betting picks

The Lakers and Jazz are playing each other twice over the course of Saturday and Monday.

The Los Angeles Lakers suddenly have a much better chance to steal a couple of wins against the best team in the NBA this season. While it’s not something anybody hopes for, the loss of star guard Donovan Mitchell for the Jazz makes this weekend’s set between the two teams much more even.

It also likely gives the Lakers even more time to rest Anthony Davis, who was recently cleared to return to full on-court basketball activities. The Lakers have already put together some wins against good teams without their stars lately and tonight may be another great opportunity.

The lines, courtesy of BetMGM

  • Point spread: Jazz -5
  • Money line: Jazz -200 / Lakers +165
  • Over-under: 213.5

Place your legal, online sports bets in VA, CO, IA, IN, NJ, PA, TN and WV at BetMGM.

Advice and prediction

The Jazz were able to get things together after Mitchell got hurt on Friday night to pull out a home win against the Indiana Pacers. But while that is all well and good, the Lakers defense should provide a very difficult challenge for a Jazz team playing without their offensive engine.

The Jazz have a lot of weapons, but the Lakers have built their season in large part thanks to their ability to take away main weapons. While they were successful on Thursday, Jaylen Brown went for 40. The Jazz don’t have a Jaylen Brown without Mitchell out.

Since the Jazz are getting used to life without Mitchell, I think the Lakers will catch them in the first of these two games.

Prediction: Lakers 112, Jazz 105

Ranking the likeliest players to win end-of-year awards this season

HoopsHype ranks the 15 likeliest NBA players to win end-of-year awards for the 2020-21 season.

As we approach the stretch run of the 2020-21 NBA campaign, we thought up a fun exercise: Why not look at current betting odds, use our own opinions and common sense, and vote on the likeliest players to win end-of-year awards this season?

So that’s precisely what we did.

From Rudy Gobert vs. Ben Simmons for Defensive Player of the Year to LaMelo Ball up against No. 1 pick Anthony Edwards for Rookie of the Year and even, of course, the frontrunners for Most Valuable Player, below, you can check out who we think are the likeliest guys to take home a major accolade for the 2020-21 season.

Jordan Clarkson sent Michael Carter-Williams sprawling and almost missed his open shot

Sometimes you surprise yourself.

We’re deep in the midst of a very entertaining NBA season and while there’s much intrigue in the league and some trade rumors we should discuss, let’s stop here for something important:

An And1-ish dribbling move that ends a defender so badly the guy who made it can barely even finish what he’s doing.

The perpetrator here is Jordan Clarkson, of the league’s best team (so far), the Utah Jazz. The victim is Orlando’s Michael Carter-Williams. This action takes place in what would become a 124-109 Utah win.

Warning: If you’ve ever been this overmatched on a playground court, watching this move could resurrect some rough memories.

Let’s isolate a few frames here.

Everything looks OK here, right? MCW has good position and has denied a few pushes by Clarkson already. He’s feeling OK. He can do this.

This is the moment everything changes. Clarkson is about plant his left foot and push back into a spin move, only Carter Williams has no idea and continues pushing his momentum to his right.

Oh. Oh no. Just crumpled.

The pain.

At this point Clarkson is so shocked by what has happened that he forgets how to play basketball. Or maybe he spun himself into confusion? Hard to say. But instead of just gliding to the completely unguarded net for a lovely lay-in flourish, he does whatever this is.

The camera picked up a flash at exactly this moment, and that’s fitting. That’s good. Because this moment in time is art. Everyone on the court looks slightly bewildered in their own specific way. Clarkson continues to defy all conventions of how to put a basketball through a hoop.

This face is part brag, part relief.

Jazz at Lakers: Prediction, point spread, odds, over/under, betting picks

The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to avoid their fourth straight home loss as they face the league-leading Utah Jazz.

The Los Angeles Lakers return to the floor on Wednesday night as they look to avoid a four-game losing streak. But doing so will likely require one of their best games of the season, without either superstar big man Anthony Davis or starting point guard Dennis Schröder, as the Lakers host the NBA’s best team so far this season, the Utah Jazz. We will give you all of the information from BetMGM so you can make the smartest bets possible.

Tonight’s game tips off at 10 p.m. EST and will be televised nationally on ESPN.

The Lakers have lost their last three games, all at home and now face the best team in the league. The Jazz have a habit of blowing teams out this season and while the Lakers are the defending champs, they don’t look like that right now.

The lines, courtesy of BetMGM

  • Point spread: Jazz -8.5
  • Moneyline: Lakers +300 / Jazz -375
  • Over-under: 218.5

Place your legal, online sports bets in VA, CO, IA, IN, NJ, PA, TN and WV at BetMGM.

Advice and prediction

The Lakers are in a bad way right now. They’ve shown flashes of good play over the past week but they’ve been unable to sustain it. And the problems for the Lakers when LeBron James goes to the bench have gotten even worse without Dennis Schröder or Anthony Davis in the lineup.

Meanwhile, the Jazz boasts one of the best bench units in the league and this season’s 6th Man of the Year frontrunner, former Laker Jordan Clarkson. There is almost no drop-off when the Jazz bench comes in and they’ve gotten great play from Derrick Favors on the second unit to spell likely Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert.

The Jazz has been a machine this season and the Lakers are currently undergoing serious maintenance. While tonight could be a night for James to go into his MVP bag against the league’s best team to help steal a win in a nationally televised game, the logical move here is to take the points.

But this logical move comes with one gambler’s caveat: you may never see a LeBron James team getting 3-to-1 on the money line for the rest of the season. That is a strong attraction for those of you looking to maximize value on your bet. Even though the Jazz have been dominant and the Lakers look sluggish, LeBron creating open 3-pointers and the Lakers getting hot enough to beat Utah is not much of a stretch.

But still, the most likely relief to the Lakers issues will come this week when Dennis Schröder clears the health and safety protocols. We recommend laying the 8.5 and taking Utah, who has been a wagon against the spread this season.

Prediction: Jazz 125, Lakers 113

Jazz at Lakers: Lineups, injury report and broadcast info for Wednesday

The Los Angeles Lakers welcome the best team in the NBA to Staples Center on Wednesday night in the Utah Jazz.

The Los Angeles Lakers are in the middle of their toughest stretch of basketball in almost two years. And as things sometimes go in the NBA, their rough road has brought them on a collision course with the best team in the league.

The Utah Jazz come into Wednesday night’s game with a league-leading 25-6 record, having won 21 of their last 23 games over the past few months. Not only have they been beating teams, but they’ve also been blowing teams out regularly. Their latest winning streak was snapped Friday in Staples Center, losing to the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Clippers, however, are a healthier and stronger team than the Lakers right now. With tonight’s game being on national television, it could be an early coming-out party for the NBA’s newest contender as LeBron James and the Lakers continue to tread water without Dennis Schröder and Anthony Davis.

Here’s when you should tune in to see the game:

  • Date: Feb. 22
  • Time: 10 p.m. ET
  • TV Channel: ESPN
  • Live Stream: fuboTV (watch for free)

Injury Report

Anthony Davis is out for the next four weeks with a calf strain. Dennis Schröder remains out due to the NBA’s health and safety protocols. The injury report for the Jazz is pretty clear. Udoka Azubukie and Elijah Hughes are the only players out for Utah.

Utah Jazz (25-6)

  • Royce O’Neal
  • Bojan Bogdanovic
  • Rudy Gobert
  • Donovan Mitchell
  • Mike Conley

Los Angeles Lakers (22-10)

  • LeBron James
  • Kyle Kuzma
  • Marc Gasol
  • Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
  • Wesley Matthews

Charles Barkley really said Jordan Clarkson was having a better season than Anthony Davis and meant it

He’s dead serious.

Charles Barkley says a lot of really wild stuff. Like, a lot. So it’s not really surprising when he has a scorching hot (and wrong!) take.

But on Thursday’s NBA on TNT show when he said he’d vote for Jordan Clarkson over Anthony Davis as an All-Star, it just felt more outrageous than usual. He really believes this.

Barkley said that he wasn’t going to vote Davis into the All-Star game which, fine, sure. He should be an All-Star, but it’s fair to say he hasn’t been the same dominant player he was last season. He’s also been hurt, so there’s that.

But it wasn’t the fact that he wasn’t voting for Davis. It was the fact that he legitimately believes that Jordan Clarkson is having a better season than Davis right now.

And he was incredulous when Shaq and Kenny Smith suggested otherwise. Just look at this, man.

We’re talking about who’s having the best year, not who is a better player…It’s not who is the best player, it’s who’s having the better year.”

He said he wanted to reward Clarkson for having a great year, which he is! He’s averaging career highs across the board. He’s probably going to be sixth man of the year, which will be his reward.

But he hasn’t been better than Anthony Davis. And when Kenny asked Barkley if he thought Clarkson was having a better year than Davis, Barkley reiterated that “yes” indeed he does believe that. With a straight face.

This is just wild, y’all. Wild. But I guess we should expect nothing less from Barkley at this point.

NBA players react to Brandon Ingram’s maximum contract with Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans and Brandon Ingram agreed to a five-year, $158 million deal on Tuesday, leading to multiple players showing support for him.

Brandon Ingram reportedly secured a huge payday on Tuesday by agreeing to a five-year, $158 million maximum contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. The deal was anticipated for much of the off-season but was delayed as the franchise navigated a four-team trade that sent out Jrue Holiday and brought in Steven Adams on his own extension.

Ingram’s extension will see him make $27.2 million in the 2020-21 season escalating to a $36 million salary in the 2024-25 season. His payday comes after a breakout season in New Orleans that included both a Most Improved Player award and an All-Star game nod.

Along the journey of his four years in the league, Ingram has gained the respect of many of his teammates, past and present, and many of them turned out to congratulate him on social media, namely in Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart and Jordan Clarkson.

Ball has been one of the most ardent supporters of Ingram during their time together as teammates and particularly in the last year. Whether it was tweeting his support after Ingram’s 49-point explosion to expressing his excitement when Ingram was named an All-Star to even being on the Zoom call to present Ingram with the Most Improved Player award, Ball has been right behind Ingram every step of the way.
