Is Loghan Thomas playing today? Injury updates for Notre Dame defensive lineman

Notre Dame defensive lineman Loghan Thomas is dealing with a right hamstring injury. Here are the latest updates.

Defensive lineman [autotag]Loghan Thomas[/autotag] is out for the No. 10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish tonight against the Florida State Seminoles.

The freshman is sidelined with a right hamstring injury.

Notre Dame has listed all other student-athletes on the two-deep roster as available. That makes us wonder if kicker [autotag]Mitch Jeter[/autotag] is finally ready to play as he deals with a hip injury.

The Fighting Irish also return freshman cornerback Tae Johnson as the backup to [autotag]Leonard Moore[/autotag]. [autotag]Karon Hobbs[/autotag], who was in that spot last week, is now the backup nickel corner to [autotag]Jordan Clark[/autotag].

Otherwise, the Irish are getting healthier, though key players such as [autotag]Jordan Botelho[/autotag] are out for the season.

Notre Dame injury update

Notre Dame will be without Loghan Thomas this week, and [autotag]Jason Onye[/autotag] remains out for personal reasons.

How long will Loghan Thomas be out?

It is unclear how long Thomas will be out beyond this week.

Notre Dame defensive lineman depth chart

Thomas’ loss will be felt, but the Irish still have a deep defensive line. Thomas was already listed at third on the depth chart for the Vyper pass-rushing position behind [autotag]Joshua Burnham[/autotag] and [autotag]Junior Tuihalamaka[/autotag].

Notre Dame football expects injured starter to return next year

Big news for the Irish in 2025

While it wasn’t the way that defensive end [autotag]Jordan Botelho[/autotag] thought his senior season would go, the good news is that the Notre Dame starter is expected to come back for one more season as head coach Marcus Freeman announced on Monday.

The Hawaiian native got off to a fast start this fall, with 12 tackles and a sack through the first three games, but he was severely injured against Purdue. It looked bad, and it turned out to be as he was ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Botelho had played in four seasons ahead of this one, but will now get a medical redshirt which gives him eligibility to play next fall. It’s big news for him to come back, as his explosiveness off the edge has been what the Irish have been lacking over the last few weeks. Hopefully, he’s full recovered by the time fall camp rolls around next year.

Marcus Freeman updates Boubacar Traore’s injury status

Coach updates us on what he knows about Traore’s injury

It was another win for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team, but there was still a major loss over the course of the game.

Already one of the starting defensive ends, [autotag]Jordan Botelho[/autotag], will be out for the remainder of the year with a knee injury. His replacement, [autotag]Boubacar Traore[/autotag], had been dominant since he entered the starting lineup.

Though last week, he was the nation’s freshman leader in sacks with three, and it seemed like he was well on his way to adding to that number against Louisville. Unfortunately, he went down with an injury in the second quarter, and did not return to the field.

Traore was seen roaming the sidelines with his left knee wrapped in ice, and following the game many wanted head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] to expand on the injury. The update didn’t give us much, as he said that he knows it’s a lower body injury and that he’d be out the remainder of the game, but didn’t know any more.

We should know more on Monday after Notre Dame’s medial team will get a chance to give him a full examination.

Notre Dame statistical leaders through four games

Who’s on the board going into the next game?

The great thing about Notre Dame’s dominant win over Miami (Ohio) is that a few more players got a chance to shine. Consequently, we have a few new names popping up in our weekly statistical leaders listicle heading into the game against Louisville. That should force the Cardinals to be a little more aware of the players they’ll be going up against.

This goes without saying, but the Irish always can benefit from new players appearing in these categories. It highlights just how deep the team’s talent is, and anyone can step in at any point. It might take some players longer to crack the leaders lists than others, but that’s the beauty of a regular season that runs through the end of November.

So who are the players standing out the most going into the Irish’s last game before their first bye week? Take a look for yourself here:

Jason Onye dedicates his season to injured Notre Dame teammate

You can feel the ND family in Onye’s words

In any sport, your teammates has to get each others backs and it looks like that is going on for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team.

Defensive end [autotag]Jason Onye[/autotag] spoke with the media recently and let everyone know he’s playing with heavy heart due to [autotag]Jordan Botelho[/autotag]’s season-ending injury. One of his closest friends on the team, the defense wants to play for him.

He wasn’t the only member of the team to speak about Botelho’s injury, as linebacker [autotag]Jack Kiser[/autotag], like the leader he is, stepped up to speak about how the team is rallying around his injury.

Onye said the team is “motivated as ever now, to play fast and do it for him (Botelho) because if he was on the field, he would be right there with us.” Different things motivate different people, and it seems like this injury has had a huge impact on the Notre Dame locker room.

Marcus Freeman updates injuries to Jordan Botelho, Ashton Craig, Billy Schrauth and more

Not great news for a few Irish starters

On Monday, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman had bad news about all of the players that suffered injuries against Purdue.

Defensive lineman [autotag]Jordan Botelho[/autotag] and offensive lineman [autotag]Ashton Craig[/autotag] are lost for the year due to knee injuries. It was reported earlier that Botelho most likely would be out for the remainder of the season, which unfortunately turned out to be correct.

There was some good injury news as well, as wide receiver [autotag]Jordan Faison[/autotag] will be full go this weekend. Defensive lineman [autotag]Joshua Burnham[/autotag] is questionable, and offensive lineman [autotag]Billy Schrauth[/autotag], the third player hurt against the Boilermakers, is expected to miss a few weeks.

Notre Dame offensive lineman Ashton Craig participates in a drill during a Notre Dame football practice at Irish Athletic Center on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, in South Bend.

It wasn’t the news we wanted to hear, but it was somewhat expected. The Irish have had to battle on the field this year, along with in the training room.

Report: One of the three injured Notre Dame players could be out for the year

Not great if the report turns out to be true

While the first half against Purdue was stellar for Notre Dame football on the scoreboard, they suffered three significant injuries to starters.

One of them was senior edge rusher [autotag]Jordan Botelho[/autotag], who was carted off the field early in the second quarter. In his first taste of extended playing time, the Hawaiian native looked as though he was heading toward a breakout season.

Earlier in the game against Purdue, he recorded his first sack of the year, but unfortunately, it may be his last as well. According to a report by 247Sports Tim Prister (subscription required), “Botelho is expected to miss the rest of the season.”

This is clearly not the news that anyone wanted to hear, but Prister also mentioned that he could return next year for his sixth season.

Notre Dame football lost three starters in first half vs. Purdue to injury

The big lead masked more Irish injuries

While Notre Dame dominated on the field against Purdue in the first half, it wasn’t without some losses.

First it was starting offensive lineman [autotag]Billy Schrauth[/autotag] going down, then returning without his pads on crutches with a boot on his right ankle. Then in a matter of a few plays midway through the second quarterback, defensive lineman [autotag]Jordan Botelho[/autotag] and offensive lineman [autotag]Ashton Craig[/autotag] also got bit by the injury bug.

It looked like the defenders was much worse, as he was carted off the field as we await any update. As for Craig, he did walk off on his own power, but any sort of injury should keep him on the sidelines for the rest of this contest with a 42-0 halftime lead.

It’s another big blow on the injury front for Notre Dame, as they already lost projected starting tackle Charles Jagusah for the year and wide receiver Jordan Faison warmed up, but didn’t seem to return from his ankle injury.

Notre Dame receives great news following Sun Bowl blowout win

Huge news for the Irish

When defensive end [autotag]Jordan Botelho[/autotag] joined the Notre Dame football team, many thought he’d have an immediate impact.

Although he had moments, such as his blocked punt against Clemson, the impact wasn’t fully felt until his dominant game against Oregon State. The Sun Bowl selected Botelho as its line MVP, after he registered 5 tackles, a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss.

It was quite the performance from the fourth-year player. Shortly after the game, the Irish received great news: Botelho will return to South Bend for one more season. Although his sack numbers weren’t quite what they were in 2022, this past season was much more well rounded.

He finished 2023 with 32 tackles and 4 sacks, clearly peaking in the final game. Botelho’s return will be felt in 2024 and Irish nation is happy to have him back for one more go round.

Notre Dame statistical leaders through 11 games

Hopefully, these players can end the regular season on a high note.

Notre Dame has one game left in the regular season against Stanford. Good luck finding a way to watch it on the Pac-12 Network, but that’s a topic for another day. Right now, let’s focus on who is most likely to help the Irish beat the Cardinal.

Statistically, here’s who is likely to factor in whether the Irish can get revenge for last year’s defeat in South Bend:
