Titans held tryouts with 7 players on Thursday

The Titans brought seven players in for tryouts on Thursday, including three familiar faces.

The Tennessee Titans are on their bye week and are taking the extra time this week to get a look at some players, according to the league’s transactions wire.

Among the players to try out for the Titans on Thursday were three familiar faces in running back Jonathan Ward, linebacker Joseph Jones and defensive back Josh Thompson.

Ward and Thompson were both with the Titans during the offseason, also, but suffered injuries that thwarted their bids at the team’s initial 53-man roster.

This is Ward’s second meeting with the Titans this month. Tennessee only has two running backs on the active roster, so there’s a need for depth there. Thompson and Ward can offer help on special teams, also.

Jones appeared in 24 games with the Titans from 2021 through 2022, playing mostly on special teams. He saw just 64 snaps on defense in that span.

Now, a look at the rest of the players the Titans worked out, along with some information for each.

Titans hosted five players for workouts on Tuesday

The Titans worked out a total of five players on Tuesday, including their former RB Jonathan Ward.

The Tennessee Titans spent their non-practice day bringing in a handful of players for workouts, one of which was a familiar face.

According to the league’s transactions wire, the Titans worked out one of their former players in running back Jonathan Ward, which was first reported on Monday by Justin Melo of The Draft Network.

Ward was with the team in 2022, appearing in three games and totaling five carries for 25 yards while playing mostly on special teams.

Tennessee brought Ward back this offseason and he looked to have a good shot to make the initial 53-man roster as the team’s third back before suffering an injury in preseason Week 1.

The Titans are in the market for a running back with the team only having two on the active roster (Derrick Henry and Tyjae Spears) and one on the practice squad (Jacques Patrick).

Ward was just one of five players the Titans took a look at on Tuesday. Here’s the rest.

Report: Titans to host RB Jonathan Ward for workout

The Titans are reportedly hosting RB Jonathan Ward for a workout.

The Tennessee Titans are in the market for another running back and will be considering a familiar face to fill their void.

According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, the Titans will host running back Jonathan Ward for a workout on Tuesday. Ward appeared in three games for the Titans last season, playing mostly on special teams.

Ward had a good shot to be the Titans’ No. 3 back out of training camp but suffered a knee injury in preseason Week 1 that led to his being waived with an injury designation and then reverted to injured reserve. Ward went on to reach an injury settlement that would allow him to play in 2023.

And here we are.

The Titans have just two running backs on their active roster in Derrick Henry and Tyjae Spears, and one on the practice squad in Jacques Patrick, making it likely they’ll add one more. Ward is a solid option thanks to his special teams ability.

Titans activate Dillon Radunz off PUP list among 4 moves

The Titans made four roster moves on Monday, one of which included activating OL Dillon Radunz off the PUP list.

The Tennessee Titans are getting back 2021 second-round pick and offensive lineman Dillon Radunz right before cutdown day on Tuesday.

The team announced on Monday that Radunz has been cleared to practice and is no longer on the physically unable to perform list.

Radunz, who suffered a torn ACL in December last season, was projected to start the season on the PUP list, which would have knocked him out for the first four games.

However, clearly that is not the case and instead Radunz will be ready for the start of the season after recovering in just eight months.

This figures to shake things up a bit for the offensive line room.

It’s doubtful Radunz, who can play both guard and tackle, will grab a starting spot this late in the process, but he should be able to secure a depth role. And, if all goes well with his return and someone upfront struggles mightily, perhaps Radunz can work his way up the depth chart.

Along with activating Radunz, the Titans announced three more moves on Monday. Here’s a look at them:

Report: Titans to work out RB Jacques Patrick on Monday

The Titans are reportedly set to work out RB Jacques Patrick on Monday.

UPDATE: The Tennessee Titans are signing running back Jacques Patrick after a successful workout on Monday (READ MORE).

The Tennessee Titans are reportedly set to take a look at a running back on Monday morning.

According to Aaron Wilson of Click2Houston.com, the Titans are bringing in running back Jacques Patrick for a workout. The move comes in the wake of fellow running back Jonathan Ward suffering a knee injury that ended his preseason Week 1 early.

A former undrafted free-agent signing of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2020, Patrick, who played his college ball at Florida State, has appeared in two games during his career, both coming in 2021 with the San Francisco 49ers, where Titans general manager Ran Carthon was at the time.

The 6-foot-3, 234-pound back tallied two carries for 12 yards in those contests while playing primarily on special teams.

The severity of Ward’s injury remains unknown, but this move might be a sign that the veteran back is set to miss time.

Aside from Ward, the Titans also have Derrick Henry, Tyjae Spears, Hassan Haskins and Julius Chestnut on the roster. Patrick would be facing an uphill climb to make the cut if signed.

Titans training camp preview at RB: Locks, competitions, 53-man prediction

We take a look at the Titans’ roster locks, players on the bubble, the competitions set to take place and a 53-man projection for the running back position.

In our latest training camp preview, we take a look at the Tennessee Titans’ running backs room, which is spearheaded by one of the best in the business in Derrick Henry.

People have been trying to write Henry’s career obituary since he suffered a foot injury in 2021 that knocked him out for half of a season. However, folks will have to hold off on that.

That’s because Henry showed he’s still got plenty left in the tank following a season in which he tallied 1,538 yards on the ground despite having a putrid offensive line in front of him. He also tallied career-highs in receptions (33) and receiving yards (398).

Joining holdovers from last year like Julius Chestnut and Jonathan Ward are 2023 third-round pick, Tyjae Spears, and undrafted free agent out of Cincinnati, Charles McClelland.

So, let’s talk about it: here’s a look at Tennessee’s roster locks at the position, as well as the players on the bubble, the competition set to take place, and a 53-man projection for how it will all pan out.

1 veteran on roster bubble at each position on offense for the Titans

Shaun Calderon takes a look at one veteran from each position group on offense who’s on the roster bubble ahead of training camp.

As we inch closer to training camp with each passing day, the Tennessee Titans still have their fair share of position battles that need to be resolved at a handful of different spots.

While there are a few question marks atop the depth chart, the majority of these battles taking place are set to identify which players will ultimately secure a reserve role for themselves.

Several of these competitions include a veteran player or two who are right on the cusp of the roster bubble.

This article is going to discuss one veteran player at each position group on the offensive side of the ball who could find themselves on the outside looking in come roster cut day.

Some positions have obvious choices to make, while others are worthy of having a real debate. Let’s find out which offensive veterans I think are on the roster bubble heading into camp.

Titans’ biggest winners from the offseason program

Titans QB Malik Willis needed at least a small victory ahead of training camp, and he got it during the offseason program.

While things certainly haven’t been quiet for the Tennessee Titans in the last few days, we are in what I call the dog days of the NFL offseason, when teams are on break in between the offseason program and training camp.

The Titans completed their offseason program on June 15, when the team held its final practices of OTAs. Prior to that, Tennessee held mandatory minicamp, which was the first time this year we saw several players, including veteran safety Kevin Byard.

Various players on both sides of the ball made standout plays in practice, but for the purpose of picking winners from the offseason program, we’re mainly looking at guys who routinely stood out, while also factoring in other things.

Without further ado, a look at the biggest winners from the Titans’ offseason program, a group that is carrying a little extra momentum ahead of training camp, which begins on July 25.

Titans designate Zach Cunningham to return from IR among 2 moves

The Titans have designated Zach Cunningham to return from injured reserve.

The Tennessee Titans announced two roster moves on Wednesday, including designating linebacker Zach Cunningham to return from injured reserve.

Cunningham landed on the list with an elbow injury that has kept him out the past five games. The veteran linebacker has missed a total of eight games with the injury this season.

The designation opens Cunningham’s 21-day window to be activated. His return will be big, as the Titans are without fellow starting linebacker David Long for at least three more games after he was placed on IR last week.

In other news, the Titans have added running back Jonathan Ward to the practice squad. Ward was one of 10 players to tryout for the Titans on Tuesday.

Ward appeared in 32 games (no starts) for the Arizona Cardinals over three seasons with the team, tallying nine rushes for 33 yards and four receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown.

The signing of Ward gives the Titans some insurance at running back with both Hassan Haskins and Dontrell Hilliard dealing with injuries.
