Ringless Bengals make unoriginal joke ahead of Week 2 matchup vs. Chiefs

The #Bengals’ official Twitter account attempted to tease the #Chiefs ahead of Cincinnati’s Week 2 matchup against Kansas City.

Though the Kansas City Chiefs don’t typically goad their opponents before games, they constantly contend with trash talk online.

The Chiefs’ budding rivalry with the Cincinnati Bengals always brings out a certain inferiority complex in the feline-themed franchise, which threw a sucker punch at the reigning Super Bowl champions on Twitter last night.

In their infinite wisdom, Cincinnati’s social media team made an unoriginal joke about Kansas City in an ill-advised attempt to poke the bear ahead of their Week 2 matchup against the Chiefs.

In their post, the Bengals, who have never won a Super Bowl in their history, feigned incompetence relative to basic geography, which seems fitting given the team’s history of almost-unbelievable ineptitude and mediocrity.

For their part, Kansas City’s social media team didn’t respond to their ringless (and, to this point, winless) opponents, and decided to let their play do the talking.

Fans in the Buckeye State are encouraged to consult a map and crack open a history book (Kansas City, Missouri was founded before the state of Kansas) before kickoff on Sunday afternoon.

WATCH: Nick Saban hilariously spends Father’s Day boxing in virtual reality

Watch Nick Saban hilariously spend Father’s Day boxing in virtual reality

From all of us at Roll Tide Wire, we hope everyone had a safe and pleasant Father’s Day weekend just as Alabama head football coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] did. Early Monday morning, Coach Saban’s daughter, Kristen, released a hilarious video of Saban from Father’s Day where he is seen competing in a boxing match via virtual reality, and let me tell you, Coach Saban’s jab is no joke.

The media often sees the short and cynical sides of Nick Saban at halftime interviews and post-game press conferences, but never let anyone tell you that he doesn’t have a fun and childish side to him, as well. As soon as the clip hit the internet, it went viral with everyone wanting to see what the seven-time national champion is really made of. As Coach Saban always says, they just don’t make ’em like they used to.

Below, are the internet’s best reactions to the video.

Chiefs equipment director Allen Wright pranks fans with alternate helmet design

#Chiefs equipment director Allen Wright got a little creative for April Fools’ Day this year.

Kansas City Chiefs Director of Equipment, Allen Wright, took full advantage of April Fools’ Day.

With the NFL easing restrictions on throwback helmets and alternate uniform designs, many NFL teams have taken advantage. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers recently announced they’re bringing back their famed “creamsicle” uniforms. The Philadelphia Eagles announced they’d wear their Kelly Green uniforms. The Chiefs, however, well they don’t really have a true alternate jersey or throwback.

Fans seem to support the idea of an alternate uniform or helmet and Wright took advantage of that knowledge. On Friday, April 1, he took to Twitter to share an alternate helmet design.

Check it out:

Fan reactions to the design varied. Some took it seriously, while others called it out for what it was. Most felt the golden color made it look like the Buccaneers’ helmet.

Some felt it looked like the caffeince free “Coca Cola” cans.

Former Chiefs defensive tackle Shaun Smith loved the design. He’ll probably be calling Wright to try and get a hold of this one for his man cave.

Given the response, it’s clear that plenty of Chiefs fans wouldn’t mind an alternate uniform or helmet design. They love the history and tradition of the franchise, but every now and again, it’s fun to throw in a change-up.

Paul Rudd incredibly finds a way to continue pranking Conan O’Brien with the same movie clip

“You can’t do that on a podcast! It’s a visual joke!”

One of the saddest realizations brought upon by the end of Conan O’Brien’s run on television as a late-night talk show was fact that fans would be losing one of the greatest running gags in media.

You see, every time Paul Rudd would go onto Conan’s show, the Ant-Man actor would somehow get the comedian to believe he was there to show a clip of his latest film. Considering his work spans from Clueless to Avengers: Endgame, how could any host not allow Rudd to show a clip? It’d be malpractice!

In reality, Rudd would only provide a clip from the 1988 film Mac and Me. And every single time, Conan O’Brien would fall for it. No matter how elaborate the set-up for the clip became, no matter how many times Rudd assured him this was for real, Lucy would pull the football away from Charlie Brown at the last second once again.

Now that O’Brien hosts a podcast, Rudd had to get a bit more creative to keep the bit going. Somehow, someway—in audio form!—the actor pulled it off.

Its absolutely incredible Rudd can continue to expose Conan’s gullibility. Truly an actor at the height of his powers. And just in case you’re a little suspicious over how easily this all comes together, you should know there’s more that happens behind the scenes before Rudd ever reaches this point.

“Every time, for years, I was convinced that I would see the real clip,” Conan told Rudd in June 2021. “Because you are a genuinely a nice person. And you would say, ‘this movie is really important to me’ and ‘I put my own money into this, and I really care about this,’ and then you’d pull that s*** every time.”

How a ‘Madden’ star won a major tournament without throwing a single pass

‘Joke’ lined up a punter at the quarterback position and still won the Madden Bowl championship.

Raidel “Joke” Brito, a 26-year-old native of New Jersey, won this year’s Madden Bowl … plus a $65,000 purse and title belt made in part of solid gold. And he did it without throwing a single pass.

To understand how that worked, you have to understand the format of the tournament: To start, the players had to build their rosters using a salary cap structure.

Joke figured if he didn’t spend big on a quarterback, that would free up a ton of money to build his roster elsewhere. He was so committed to the idea, he didn’t spend at all on a quarterback: Washington Redskins punter Tress Way lined up under center for him in the game.

With the freed up salary space, he was able to build an incredibly stout defense and potent offensive line. Then he started running. And kept doing it, right to a title, which he won with a 17-0 shutout over Daniel “Dcroft” Mycroft.

The win solidified Joke’s place in Madden history.

Via ESPN:

“We had three major events during the season that led to this tournament,” said Tyler “TDAVIS” Davis, a Madden competitor and commentator. “Joke finished fifth, third and third in those tournaments en route to winning the final tournament of the year. He was the best player by far in Madden 20. Going into this, he was arguably in the top 10 of all-time greats, and now he has to be considered in the top 5 ever.”

Congrats to Joke for his … serious win. I’m sorry. I couldn’t help myself.

Watch: Matthew Stafford’s reveals practical joke on Lions’ media/fans

It’s been few years in the making but Matthew Stafford finally revealed the practical joke he and T.J. Lang have been playing on the Detroit Lions’ media and fan base.

I’ll admit it, I was fooled.

Roughly three weeks ago, Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford and former Lion T.J. Lang joined the teams’ multi-media journalist Tori Petry as part of the teams’ pre-2020 draft virtual festivities. As the video conference was wrapping up, Lang said he has one more question for Stafford:

“Dating back maybe three years ago,” Lang said, “when we were doing the ‘Talkin’ with T.J.’, you kinda showed off your math skills… I’m just going to make a number up — 9,758 times 618.”

Stafford answered with ease:

That video clip went viral, reportedly getting over 100,000 views, and Stafford received a lot of accolades throughout the media — even being dubbed a Math Wizard by ESPN.

Today, during a video conference with the Detroit media, Stafford pulled back the curtain and revealed the truth behind hid genius:

“I can’t believe you guys fell for the math trick,” Stafford said. “T.J. and I have been doing that for years. He texts me the answer beforehand and I just read it off and sell it hard. I guess I deserve a Daytime Emmy, but for sure, not a math award.”

Well, at least I wasn’t alone in being fooled. Well done Matthew, well done.

Sean Payton gets in a crafty dig at the Falcons on Twitter

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton had some spare time, so he got on Twitter and joked about the Atlanta Falcons Super Bowl collapse:

[jwplayer auWlrUD0-ThvAeFxT]

The rivalry between the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons is one of the NFL’s most underrated competitions, representing the closest thing the pro level has to the generations-long bouts you’ll see in college football. And not even Saints coach Sean Payton is above indulging in the fun every now and then.

Approached by a Falcons fan on Twitter who joked that Payton should, “Get back in your bag and provide us some show reviews,” during the lengthy stay-at-home orders many Americans are respecting in light of the coronavirus pandemic, Payton obliged — but was careful to take a jab at the Falcons’ expense.

We’ve embedded the exchange below; read it once for some legitimate recommendations from a few prominent streaming services, then look a little deeper.

The first letter in each line of Payton’s response spells out, “28 to 3, Houston we have a problem,” referencing the Falcons’ historic collapse in Super Bowl LI against the New England Patriots (at the Houston Texans’ NRG Stadium, no less. Good on Coach for doing his homework).

That game of course saw the Falcons surrender a 25-point lead late in the third quarter, setting the franchise back years and denying Falcons faithful the Super Bowl win they’ve spent so many years chasing. Honestly, you love to see it.

Claressa Shields hits back at B.J. Saunders’ joke with self-defense video

Claressa Shields has a message for Billy Joe Saunders and all the women in abusive relationships around the world…

Claressa Shields didn’t find it funny when Billy Joe Saunders joked about hitting women in a viral video clip that prompted the British Board of Boxing Control to suspend his boxing license for the foreseeable future.

So Shields clapped back at Saunders on Sunday in a video of her own on Twitter. In the video, Shields purports to show “all women in abusive relationships” how to respond to violent men. You aim for below the belt, apparently.

“You see this bag here? Women, we may not be as strong as men, but we are smarter,” Shields said, as she faced a punching bag. “What I want you girls to do is when a guy goes here – a right hand and tries to come back with a hook, tries to put your lights out – what I want you to do: You duck, and when you duck, you hit him right there.

“You see where that’s at? That’s not the stomach ladies. That is the nuts. Hit him as hard as you can in the nuts. That should make him hit the ground and fall like that. And then you can get away from him. A tutorial for all the women in abusive relationships.”
