Notre Dame football: Former in-state Irish recruit headed to Big Ten

All the best to this former Fighting Irish DB!

A former Notre Dame football enrollee has found a new home in the Big Ten.  JoJo Johnson, a late addition to Notre Dame’s 2021 recruiting class is back home again in Indiana.  Bloomington, Indiana to be specific.

Johnson, a product of Merrilville High School in northwest Indiana, chose Notre Dame after at one point being committed to Cincinnati.  Early in his time in South Bend he tore his ACL and chose to transfer out.  He never played a down for the Fighting Irish.
Johnson spent 2022 at junior college Iowa Western and has been recruited by a variety of midwestMprograms recently.  He announced on Twitter that he’s resuming his Division I football career at Indiana University.
Johnson is listed at 5-11, 190-pounds.  He had over 15 scholarship offers out of high school including from Iowa, Michigan State, and Purdue among many others.
Notre Dame owns a 22-3 all-time series advantage over Indiana.  Two will meet for a home-and-home in the years 2030 and 2031.

Notre Dame corner enters transfer portal

All the best to him going forward!

Notre Dame will have one fewer body competing for a spot at the corner back position in 2022 as redshirt-freshman JoJo Johnson has entered the transfer portal.

Johnson played wide receiver in high school but was recruited to play in Notre Dame’s secondary.  A local product, Johnson helped lead Merrillville High School to the Indiana state semi-finals his senior year.

Johnson didn’t play as a freshman at Notre Dame and was a late addition to the 2021 recruiting class, committing to the Fighting Irish shortly being offered in November of 2020.

Johnson had 18 reported offers from several midwest programs including Cincinnati, Iowa, Michigan State, Purdue, and several others.

Notre Dame football adds yet another ‘21 commitment

It had been five days since anyone gave Notre Dame their commitment so local talent Jojo Johnson changed that on Tuesday.

It had been a while since Notre Dame last received a commitment to their 2021 recruiting class seeing as it’s been a whole five days.

That might not seem very long but considering the heater Notre Dame has been on in recruiting, it feels like a long time.

The Irish received four commitments last week as their class ranking jumped into the top 10 nationally according to most outlets.

Tuesday saw them add yet another commitment, this one coming from a young man they only offered an official scholarship to days ago.

JoJo Johnson was offered by Notre Dame on Sunday and on Tuesday, the Merrillville, Indiana senior made his decision to play for Brian Kelly and the Fighting Irish official.

Johnson becomes the 22nd commitment to Notre Dame’s class and will start his career in South Bend in the defensive backfield.

Johnson is rated as a three-star prospect by both 247Sports and Rivals and chose Notre Dame over offers from 17 other programs including Cincinnati, Purdue, Iowa, Michigan State and several MAC schools.

Johnson originally committed to Cincinnati on May 1 but reopened his recruitment by de-committing in mid-October.

Johnson is listed at 5-11, 180 pounds and becomes the fifth defensive back to join the 2021 recruiting class.

Notre Dame football: Irish offer local ’21 prospect

Could Notre Dame have just extended a scholarship offer to their next commitment to the 2021 recruiting class?

Notre Dame has been riding a heater in the recruiting game of late, gaining four commitments over the last week as their 2021 class has climbed into the top ten nationally.

Now might Brian Kelly and the Irish be about to add 22nd commitment to that list?

That isn’t certain by any means but Notre Dame did extend another offer to a 2021 prospect on Sunday, extending an offer to JoJo Johnson of Merrillville, Indiana.

Johnson is listed as a wide receiver on 247Sports but Notre Dame would be looking for him to be a defensive back.

Johnson is listed at 5-11, 180 pounds and is graded as a three-star prospect.

Johnson has 16 offers, largely from MAC schools like Northern Illinois, Ball State, Central Michigan, Miami (OH), Toledo and Western Michigan.

Big Ten schools Iowa, Michigan State and Purdue have all offered as well Cincinnati, Washington State, and a handful of others.

MSU Football offers 2021 3-star WR JoJo Johnson, currently committed to Cincinnati

Michigan State has offered a 3-star wide receiver who is currently committed to Cincinnati.

On Wednesday night, 2021 3-star wide receiver JoJo Johnson announced that he has received an offer from Michigan State. Johnson, who is from Merrillville, Indiana, is already committed to Cincinnati. However, MSU Football fans are far too aware that commitments aren’t always set in stone.

It seems like just yesterday that Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell was rumored to be a favorite to land the Michigan State job as Mark Dantonio’s replacement. Fickell ended up turning down that offer, and the Spartans went with Mel Tucker instead. Now, the two coaches are both recruiting head to head in a limited midwest talent pool.

Tucker has shown plenty of gusto in his willingness to go after players who are already committed to other schools, and that’s what he did this week.
