Tracy McGrady lists two potential All-Stars in upcoming NBA draft

The upcoming draft is highlighted by several talented players, and McGrady believes at least two of them can become future All-Stars.

The upcoming NBA draft is highlighted by several players projected to have long careers, and Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady believes at least two of them can become future All-Stars in the league.

Of course, Duke forward Paolo Banchero, Gonzaga center Chet Holmgren and Auburn forward Jabari Smith Jr. are considered the front-runners to be the first pick by Orlando Magic. The class also features several other high-caliber players that can perform with the best of them.

McGrady, speaking in an interview with Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington, named Smith and Wisconsin sophomore Johnny Davis as his two future All-Stars.

I like the kid Johnny Davis. I think he has the ability to be a star in today’s game. I think Jabari Smith has the ability to be a star in today’s game. Those two really stand out to me of having that potential to be perennial All-Stars in the NBA.

Smith, who was voted a consensus All-American, averaged 16.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, two assists, 1.1 steals and one blocked shot on 42% shooting from 3-point range. He set the Auburn single-season freshman record for points (576) and 3-pointers (79).

Davis also earned All-American honors after averaging 19.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals in 31 games. He was named the Big Ten Player of the Year after leading the Badgers to the conference regular-season title.

While Smith is in the running to be the top pick, Davis is projected to be taken in the 6-10 range on June 23. He proved a dynamic scorer by creating for himself or working in the mid-range and had three 30-point performances to show for it.

Certainly, other players in the upcoming draft have strong chances to make a trip to the All-Star Game but Smith and Davis stand out the most to McGrady.

The internal conversations for the 14th …

The internal conversations for the 14th pick — if the Cavs keep the player instead of trading his draft rights — have centered around Daniels (expected to be off the board when they are on the clock), Branham, Sochan, Davis (could go earlier than 14), Arizona shooting guard Ben Mathurin (Cavs watched him workout in LA), LSU’s Tari Eason (coming to Cleveland for a pre-draft workout soon), Kansas swingman Ochai Agbaji, Kentucky’s TyTy Washington, Ohio State forward E.J. Liddell (will conduct a workout with the Cavs this week) and French swingman Ousmane Dieng (his draft stock is all over the place).

The Badger star continues his pre-draft process

It’s draft month for Wisconsin guard Johnny Davis, and the former Badger is well into the process of pre-draft workouts with different NBA teams.

Most recently, Davis headed to Washington to display his skills for the Wizards. He isn’t taking the opportunity for granted.

“I only get to go through this once in my entire life, my entire career,” Davis told the Wizards. The team Twitter account gave Badger fans a few highlights from his recent workout, and the Big Ten Player of the Year also appeared on the Wizards “Off the Bench” podcast. The NBA draft will take place on June 23.

Johnny Davis has pre-draft workout with the Washington Wizards

Badgers guard Johnny Davis has his first pre-draft workout:

Armed with the 10th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, the Washington Wizards held a pre-draft workout with Badgers guard Johnny Davis, according to Josh Robbins of the Athletic.

Davis, who was the Big Ten Player of the Year, Lute Olson National Player of the Year, and a consensus first-team All-American averaged 19.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals in 31 games for the Badgers last season.

The former La Crosse Central standout can score from all three levels, defend either spot on the wing, and possesses the versatility NBA scouts covet.

The 6-foot-5, 196-pound sophomore is currently projected as a lottery pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. Should that come to fruition, he’ll be the first Badger selected in the NBA Draft lottery since Frank Kaminsky back in 2015.

The 2022 NBA Draft will take place on June 23.

Wisconsin Badgers basketball all-time starting five

Wisconsin men’s basketball’s all-time starting five:

The University of Wisconsin men’s basketball program has been among college basketball’s most consistently successful programs during the past two decades and counting.

The people in Wisconsin have Midwestern values. They’re blue collar, hard hat, lunch pail people that appreciate an honest day’s work. They want to see a reflection of themselves on the court, and the Badgers men’s basketball program has given them exactly that.

While Wisconsin isn’t on the same tier as college basketball’s blue-blood programs, it has put together a rather impressive resume of its own:

  • National Championships: 1 (1941)
  • Final Four Appearances: 4 (1941, 2000, 2014, 2015)
  • Elite Eight Appearances: 6 (1941, 1947, 2000, 2005, 2014, 2015)
  • Sweet Sixteen Appearances: 10 (2000, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017)

Achieving this kind of success required high level coaching, but it also took a handful of extraordinary players capable of elevating the program to new heights.

That begs the question, who would make up Wisconsin basketball’s all-time starting five? Today at the BadgersWire we’re going to unpack who those players should be, and their credentials:

Wizards to host solo workout with Wisconsin guard Johnny Davis

Davis will reportedly take part in an individual workout with the Wizards on Thursday.

Wisconsin sophomore Johnny Davis will reportedly visit with the Washington Wizards on Thursday, according to Josh Robbins of The Athletic.

The Wizards will first conduct a group workout with several prospects and will then put Davis through an individual workout afterward. Washington holds the 10th overall pick in the first round, which is right in Davis’ projected range after a strong campaign with the Badgers.

Davis, who was a consensus first-team All-American, averaged 19.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals in 31 games. He was also named the Big Ten Player of the Year after leading the Badgers to the conference regular-season title.

Davis had an incredible rise up draft boards this year. He finished third in scoring in the Big Ten and proved a dynamic scorer by creating for himself or by working in the mid-range. He had three 30-point performances, including a season-high 37 points against then-No. 3 Purdue.

The individual workout with Davis could indicate the Wizards’ interest in him, but the team will also do its due diligence on each prospect in their range ahead of the draft. The visit with the Wizards is the first known workout for Davis to this point.

The NBA draft will take place on June 23.
