Hunt will be the replacement on the active roster for rookie linebacker Jordan Glasgow, who remains on the reserve/COVID-19 list. This will be the second game in a row Glasgow misses as he was placed on the list just hours before the Week 14 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Colts rule Ryan Kelly OUT among several roster moves

Colts make several roster moves.

The Indianapolis Colts made several roster moves on Saturday ahead of the Week 12 game against the Tennessee Titans, including downgrading center Ryan Kelly from questionable to out.

Kelly didn’t practice all week due to a neck injury he seemingly suffered during the Week 11 win over the Green Bay Packers, and now the Colts will be down several starters for this crucial matchup.

Among that were several roster moves including:

  • CB Isaiah Rodgers (knee) downgraded to questionable.

  • DTs Kameron Cline and Robert Windsor were elevated from the practice squad to the active roster.
  • WR Ashton Dulin (knee) has been activated from the injured reserve list.

The Colts also placed running back Jonathan Taylor on the reserve/COVID-19 list and he will not play against the Titans on Sunday.

Colts sign CB Andre Chachere, C Joey Hunt

Colts make some roster moves.

The Indianapolis Colts signed cornerback Andre Chachere and center Joey Hunt. The team also placed offensive tackle Andre Donnal on the injured reserve list and waived-injured tight end Ian Bunting, the team announced Sunday.

Chachere, 24, was an undrafted free agent with the Houston Texans in 2018. He has bounced around the league since then spending time with the Lions, Cardinals and Panthers.

Hunt, 26, was a sixth-round pick with the Seahawks in 2016 and spent his first four seasons in Seattle. He re-signed with the Seahawks this offseason but was released in July. Hunt worked out for the Colts on Aug. 20 before they signed him on Sunday.

Hunt has played in 34 games while making 11 starts in his career.

Browns worked out Ron Leary, 2 other linemen

Browns worked out Ron Leary, 2 other linemen

The long-reported workout for free agent offensive guard Ron Leary and the Cleveland Browns finally happened on Saturday, per the NFL’s transaction wire. Leary was one of three interior linemen working out for the Browns in Berea on Saturday.

Leary made his appearance, which had been reported earlier in the week. The veteran starter has experience working under Browns offensive line coach Bill Callahan.

Along with Leary, centers Joey Hunt and Casey Dunn also auditioned for the Browns. Hunt started eight games at center for the Seattle Seahawks in 2019 and has appeared in 34 NFL games since 2016, but Seattle cut him earlier this offseason despite signing the TCU grad to a tender offer.

The Browns are still scrambling for depth on the interior offensive line after three players opted out for COVID-19 reasons. In addition, starting center JC Tretter is sidelined for at least a week after undergoing a minor knee procedure.

Will Joey Hunt be a cap casualty for the Seahawks?

The Seattle Seahawks are expected to start B.J. Finney at center, with Ethan Pocic in the mix as well. Where does that leave Joey Hunt?

The Seattle Seahawks had two players, Justin Britt and Joey Hunt, combine to start every game at center in 2019.

However, there is a real chance they head into 2020 without either of them on the roster.

Britt is already gone, having been released shortly after the draft in order to save the Seahawks over $10 million in cap space.

Hunt, who started eight games last season after Britt went down with a knee injury, could suffer a similar fate if the team wants to clear some more cap space to make a push for a defensive tackle.

Hunt is currently expected to compete with Ethan Pocic for the backup center role behind veteran B.J Finney, who was signed shortly after the offseason began back in March.

Pocic has had a hard time staying healthy, and when he has his performance on the field has been nothing to write home about. However, he was a second round pick back in 2017 and his cap hit is about $700,000 less than Hunt’s.

That is not a huge amount, but it certainly seems plausible the Seahawks would gamble on Pocic’s upside over Hunt – who at this point is a known commodity and who costs more, despite having less versatility.

Of course, coach Pete Carroll loves Hunt for his high football IQ, and Pocic has been nothing short of a disappointment in his Seattle tenure, so it’s not like this is a done deal.

There’s also an avenue where both players are kept on the active roster, if Pocic can win a job as a backup guard or even backup tackle in training camp, which is set to begin on July 29.

Seattle Seahawks finalize 4 signings ahead of 2020 NFL draft

The Seahawks finalized the signings of Bruce Irvin, Joey Hunt, Branden Jackson and Bryan Mone on Thursday, a few hours before the NFL draft.

The Seattle Seahawks continued to make some of their previously announced signings official, reporting the signing of veteran Bruce Irvin and the re-signing of three players from last year’s squad: center Joey Hunt, defensive end Branden Jackson and defensive tackle Bryan Mone.

Irvin’s signing was initially reported in mid-March. The veteran pass rusher was with the Seahawks from 2012-2015 after the team made him their first pick in the 2012 NFL draft, ahead of Bobby Wagner and Russell Wilson.

Irvin spent time with the Raiders, Falcons and Panthers after that, but will return to Seattle in a strongside linebacker role, while doing some pass rushing in applicable situations as well.

Hunt and Jackson were both restricted free agents who officially signed their tenders earlier this week. Hunt will compete at center, where he has been the backup since 2016 – even starting eight games last year in Justin Britt’s absence.

Jackson is a reserve defensive end who had two sacks last year and will look to make the team in a similar role again in 2020.

Mone was signed as an undrafted free agent last year, and played sparingly as an interior defensive tackle. He will compete for the snaps vacated by Al Woods this offseason.

The NFL draft will kick off at 5:00 p.m. PT on Thursday, April 23, and the Seahawks presently own one pick, No. 27 overall, in the first round.
