Report: Jonathan Taylor planning to be ready to play by Week 5

Jonathan Taylor reportedly plans to be ready to play as early as Week 5.

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is currently on the Reserve/PUP list, keeping him out for at least the first four games of the season, but he reportedly is expected to play as early as Week 5.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Sunday morning that Taylor is “going to pass his physical and could pass it today,” and that his plans are to play as early as Week 5, which is the first week he’s eligible to come off the PUP list.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network echoed a similar report, saying Taylor is currently health and could pass a physical.

“Sources say Taylor is healthy and likely would be able to pass a physical today if one was required,” Rapoport reported Sunday morning.

Whether Taylor is planning to play for the Colts is a different question entirely. But this report from Schefter, which states Taylor is healthy and able to pass a physical, slightly contradicts the Colts’ claims that the back is still feeling pain in the ankle.

Though the relationship has taken extensive damage, the Colts and Taylor could still patch things up and come to an agreement for him to play when he returns, in theory.

It’s also possible his trade request stands and the team will find him a new home before the trade deadline at the end of October.

Even with Taylor unavailable for the first four games, this still will continue to be a storyline worth monitoring over the next month.

5 reasons the Colts missed the playoffs in 2022

Here are five reasons why the Colts missed the playoffs in 2022.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda. That is what 31 teams look back at the end of the season if it doesn’t end in a Super Bowl win.

This is especially true for the franchises that didn’t even get into the playoffs. That was the case for the Indianapolis Colts.

In a season that was supposed to be the one they finally won the AFC South in 2014 ended up being a roller coaster ride that ended in embarrassment with how things came unglued at the end of the year.

Let’s take a look at the reasons why Indy missed the postseason:

16 Colts players with Pro Bowl potential in 2022

The Colts have plenty of Pro Bowl potential on their roster in 2022.

The Indianapolis Colts led the NFL with seven players being selected to the Pro Bowl for the 2021 season and while that didn’t help them make the playoffs, it did show how talented the roster is.

There is an ongoing debate about how much value the Pro Bowl selections hold, but the players take it pretty seriously. Just ask cornerback Kenny Moore II how much it meant to him to be named a Pro Bowler last year.

While the league may be moving away from holding an actual football game for the Pro Bowl, it will still be a celebration for the players that are selected.

Not all of the names on this list will make the Pro Bowl, especially considering the fact that we have 16 total players here. First listed will be 11 players who have the best case to make the Pro Bowl (in no order) followed by five honorable mentions who probably won’t make it but still have a case.

Entering the 2022 season, here are 16 Colts players who have a case to make for the Pro Bowl:

Colts’ PFF grades: Best and worst from Week 15 win over Patriots

Here are the best and worst PFF grades from the Colts’ Week 15 win.

The Indianapolis Colts (8-6) continued to move up in the playoff race thanks to their big 27-17 win over the New England Patriots (9-5) on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Stadium,

Currently holding the No. 5 seed in the playoff race, the Colts control their own destiny into the postseason with three games remaining. The big win over the Patriots showed they have what it takes to beat the top teams in the conference as opposed to simply competing with them.

Following the win, let’s take a look at the best and worst game grades for the Colts from Pro Football Focus:

Colts rule Ryan Kelly OUT among several roster moves

Colts make several roster moves.

The Indianapolis Colts made several roster moves on Saturday ahead of the Week 12 game against the Tennessee Titans, including downgrading center Ryan Kelly from questionable to out.

Kelly didn’t practice all week due to a neck injury he seemingly suffered during the Week 11 win over the Green Bay Packers, and now the Colts will be down several starters for this crucial matchup.

Among that were several roster moves including:

  • CB Isaiah Rodgers (knee) downgraded to questionable.
  • C Joey Hunt and DE Cassius Marsh were elevated from the practice squad as COVID-19 replacements.
  • DTs Kameron Cline and Robert Windsor were elevated from the practice squad to the active roster.
  • WR Ashton Dulin (knee) has been activated from the injured reserve list.

The Colts also placed running back Jonathan Taylor on the reserve/COVID-19 list and he will not play against the Titans on Sunday.

The Colts will be extremely short-handed when the host the Titans on Sunday, especially after the several roster moves they made ahead of the game.
