Lip-readers think Joe Kelly yelled NSFW stuff at Ronel Blanco and the Astros

Joe Kelly loves trolling the Astros.

Joe Kelly hasn’t exactly seen eye to eye with the Houston Astros in his career.

The Los Angeles Dodgers receiver has mocked them after their cheating scandal and caused a bench-clearing incident. Although all of that happened back in 2020, he’s probably still not a fan.

As we saw on Saturday, that’s the case. Astros pitcher Ronel Blanco hit Gavin Lux with a pitch and Kelly decided to yell some NSFW stuff at Blanco … or at least that’s what lip-readers thought. I can’t print what he said here, but it was maybe: “You [expletive]!” twice.

Here’s that moment captured by cameras on Saturday:

Shohei Ohtani gifted Joe Kelly’s wife a new Porsche in exchange for a No. 17 jersey swap

Shohei Ohtani is clearly in the holiday spirit.

Shohei Ohtani has worn No. 17 throughout his career so far. It’s his number. He’s synonymous with it.

But he’s with the Dodgers now and that number is taken. Or, at least, it was. Joe Kelly wore No. 17 with the Dodgers in each of his stints with the team throughout his career.

That led to there being a bit of intrigue in the Dodgers’ pursuit of Ohtani this offseason. Would that mean Kelly had to give up his number? If so, would that be a problem?

From the beginning, though, it was clear that it wouldn’t be. It’s all thanks to Joe Kelly’s wife, Ashley.

She quelled all of that with her #OhTake17 campaign on social media where she made an effort to convince Ohtani to come to LA. She also offered up her husband’s number and even joked that the couple would change their son’s name from Kai to ShoKai and was ready to give away her family’s No. 17 gear.

In exchange for all that love, plus the actual No. 17, Ohtani bought Ashley a new Porsche. Yes, seriously.

It’s well-earned. We all know he’s got the money for it, too. Shoutout to Ohtani for this one. What a teammate.

Joe Kelly wowed MLB fans with a stunning 99 mph sinker that seriously looked like CGI

That pitch looks fake.

The White Sox’s 2023 season has been a major disappointment thus far, but if there was one bright spot, it’s that pitcher Joe Kelly has absolutely exceeded expectations in the bullpen.

The 12-year vet is enjoying a career-best start and is striking out nearly 13 batters per nine innings this season. After his appearance on Wednesday night against the Cleveland Guardians, it was easy to see why.

Kelly is throwing pitches that don’t even look real.

Facing Tyler Freeman in the eighth inning, Kelly struck out the Guardians shortstop with one of the nastier pitches we’ll see this season. According to Statcast, the 99 mph sinker ran 22 inches horizontally to the right-handed batter’s box.

That’s just silly. Like, how does a pitch move like that?

You can’t really blame Freeman for looking outmatched in that at-bat either because no hitter is touching that pitch.

MLB fans were understandably in awe with the sinker.

Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly had a hilarious reaction to getting a strikeout off blatant missed call

Just a bit outside…

Here at For The Win, we’re pretty staunch advocates for robot umps (and yes, I’m speaking for everyone). There’s only so much tolerance one can have for an endless stream of missed calls from across the MLB umpiring roster.

But there are those rare moments where a missed strike-3 call can be appreciated, and for that, I can thank Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly.

During Wednesday’s game between the Dodgers and Miami Marlins, Kelly struck out Starling Marte on filthy 99 mph sinker that was a solid six inches off the plate. Marte was right to let that pitch go, and Nestor Ceja — who is unfortunately not a robot — was wrong to call it a strike.

Just check out how Kelly reacted to the call:

Turn the sound on to hear the perfectly applied Curb Your Enthusiasm music.

Kelly knew the call was wrong. Like, very wrong. But hey, it helped him out. He’ll take it.

The Marlins, though, would go on to win, 9-6.

Dodgers’ Joe Kelly wore the Mariachi jacket he traded for to the White House

Amazing.

Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly has been known for his antics.

It was a year ago he mocked the Houston Astros with a pouty face that went super viral and he even made the same expression in front of a mural of himself making said pouty face.

Now, with the Dodgers visiting the White House on Friday, we have a new fun Kelly moment.

A few days ago, Kelly met a member of a Mariachi band at Dodger Stadium and asked to trade his jersey for the jacket of the band-member. The exchange was made and it was pretty awesome.

Guess what Kelly wore to meet with the President?

Joe Kelly made his pouty face at the Los Angeles mural of himself taunting the Astros

Awesome!!

You hoped it was coming the moment an artist turned the epic moment of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly mocking the Houston Astros into a mural.

Kelly himself would hopefully visit the mural while he’s on the mend with a shoulder injury and serves a suspension for throwing at the Astros back in July.

Well guess what? IT REALLY HAPPENED! And Kelly — who went and snapped photos with his family — delivered by making the pouty face in front of the pouty face mural. So meta!

Here’s the Instagram post with the photos from the visit thanks to Kelly’s wife:

Kelly was activated off the injured list on Thursday and would have faced the Astros over the weekend … but he has to serve a five-game suspension first.

Artist turns Joe Kelly’s taunting of the Astros into an epic mural in Los Angeles

Just in time for the Astros-Dodgers series.

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly was suspended for eight games (before having the suspension reduced to five upon appeal) back in July after his heated relief appearance against the Astros.

During that appearance, Kelly threw behind the Astros’ Alex Bregman and exchanged words with Carlos Correa after a strikeout. And then, Kelly unleashed a fantastic pouty face to mock the Astros and Correa, which resulted in the dugouts briefly clearing.

That moment solidified Kelly’s place in Dodgers folklore as he exacted some revenge against the Astros for cheating during the 2017 season. And now he’ll have a mural in Los Angeles to commemorate that facial expression.

On Tuesday, Los Angeles mural artist Jonas Never completed his Joe Kelly mural in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles — just a couple miles down the road from Dodger Stadium.

In his tweet, Jonas Never said that he wanted to get the mural completed before the Astros came to Los Angeles for their series rematch on Saturday. Unfortunately, Kelly won’t be playing in that series. He’s on the injured list and still has to serve his five-game suspension.

But the baseball world will certainly keep an eye on that rematch.

MLB is a bunch of cowards for not letting Trevor Bauer wear his ‘Free Joe Kelly’ cleats

MLB continues to hate fun.

Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Trevor Bauer had a fun idea on Wednesday and since he plays in Major League Baseball, a league that is generally anti-fun, he wasn’t allowed to wear a pair of cleats that said “Free Joe Kelly” on them or he would face some strict punishments.

Apparently wearing those cleats is worse than cheating your way to a World Series, which the Astros did in 2017 but then didn’t have any of their players punished at all.

MLB is allowing players to put whatever they want on their cleats this season as long as its not offensive or political.

Bauer wanted to wear his cleats in tribute to Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly, who was suspended for throwing at the Astros earlier this year.

But apparently that was deemed to be very bad by MLB and not allowed. The league, according to Bauer and ESPN, threatened to eject him from the game if he wore them.

Bauer provided details after the game:

Typical MLB, which is led by the worst commissioner in sports.

Here’s what the cleats would have looked like:

Proceeds made from the cleats were going to go to Kelly’s favorite charity so hopefully MLB will just donate a bunch of money to make up for it’s lameness.

Dodgers announcer appears to burn MLB over the Joe Kelly suspension

LOL.

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ booth is 2-for-2 in commentary that’s gone viral in the past two nights.

On Wednesday, Orel Hershiser took a shot at the Astros and their cheating scandal with his “Guessing is harder than knowing” dig.

On Thursday, play-by-play man Joe Davis joined in on the chorus of MLB players and fans who think Joe Kelly’s eight-game suspension was way too punitive.

Dodgers hurler Ross Stripling had a curveball slip out of his hand and hit Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Starling Marte (he was okay), to which Davis commented, “Stripling has been suspended for 100 games. … I bet he’ll appeal.”

Think that’s about the Kelly suspension? Sure sounds like it.
