President-elect Joe Biden with stirring salute to friend Floyd Little

Joe Biden paid tribute to his former fellow Syracuse University student, Floyd Little

President-elect Joe Biden attended Syracuse University. Despite his long career, he hasn’t forgotten his Orange roots.

That came out on Saturday when Biden paid homage through a statement to the great Syracuse running back, Floyd Little, who died a day earlier after a battle with cancer.

“Floyd Little and I were students at Syracuse University together,” Biden said in a statement. “I was in law school and he was a star halfback on the football team. I watched him play in Archbold Stadium, his number 44 flashing by defenders who had no chance, running as if he was chasing the spirit of his dear friend and fellow 44 legend, Ernie Davis.

“In the years that followed, I got to know Floyd as the man behind the number. He was full of character, decency, and integrity. He was always gracious with his time with fans — parents and grandparents who wanted to introduce their children and grandchildren to a genuine role model.

“I was one of them. My family got to know Floyd. We’d call each other after Syracuse games and to check in on one another. I remember our call when he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the joy in his voice. And I remember the more recent call when he shared his cancer diagnosis, and how fearless he was in his conviction to fight it. As with everything else he did in life, Floyd lived to the very end with grit and heart, and love for his family and faith in God.

“I will miss my friend. He was a good man. The entire Biden family sends our love to DeBorah and the entire Little family.”

Well played, by the man who becomes Mr. President on Jan. 20.

LeBron James thanks Black people for voter turnout in GA, PA for Biden win

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has spent the better part of this year trying to mobilize the Black vote in American cities.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has had plenty to celebrate over the last 30 days and this weekend’s news that Joe Biden  has won the United States Presidential election over Donald Trump, that celebration continued over the past few days, as the jubilation of a Lakers championship, a Dodgers World Series and the defeat of Trump, who had LeBron had crashed with before, has gotten LeBron’s posting juices flowing.

LeBron was active on social media once Pennsylvania and Georgia were called for Biden, including using a couple of photoshopped memes involving James, such as his iconic block on Andre Iguodala in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals. But James also wanted to share a creative post from someone else on social media, using a scene from ‘Bad Boys 2,’ in which the characters played by Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, go undercover at a KKK rally. James used it to make sure that Black people, in particular, were shouted out for the work they did to win the election for the Biden-Harris ticket.

Chris Paul celebrates President-elect Joe Biden’s victory on Instagram

Chris Paul did all he possibly could to help get President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris elected.

It may have taken a few days, but Former Vice President Joe Biden became President-elect over the weekend after a few days of uncertainty.

In the end, though, Mr. Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election after he and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris received more approximately 76 million votes — more than any other ticket in history.

Chris Paul played a major role in that respect.

Currently the President of the NBA Players Association, Paul has emerged as one of the most respected voices in professional sports. During the NBA’s restart in Orlando, Paul openly advocated against voter suppression, encouraged people to exercise their right to vote and actively endorsed and campaigned with Mr. Biden.

Paul famously accompanied the President-elect to Steph Curry’s gym in Charlotte and also led some endeavors in his home state of North Carolina designed to ‘Get out the Vote.”

While some athletes in the past have been reluctant to publicly involved themselves in politics, Paul went out of his way to put himself out there for the Biden-Harris ticket, so it came as no surprise that he took to his Instagram feed to send a public congratulations to the duo.

“We are so much stronger when our differences bring us TOGETHER rather than tear us apart!!!,” Paul wrote.

“Congratulations to @joebiden & @kamalaharris – biggest voter turnout in American history!! Let’s keep the momentum going and shape a more inclusive and equal America”

Now that the election is over and the NBPA appears to have come to an agreement with the league to tip-off its 2020-21 season on Dec. 22, Paul can now turn his attention back to basketball. He is widely expected to be traded before NBA teams convene for training camp on Dec. 1, with the New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks believed to be two teams vying for his services.

No matter what happens on the trade front, Paul will probably spend the next week or two basking in the victory of the leaders he did all he could to install.

Just like on the basketball court, Paul managed to record yet another assist.

LeBron James loved Jim Carrey as Joe Biden on this week’s Saturday Night Live

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James loved seeing what the folks at Saturday Night Live had written for their post-election show.

Count LeBron James among those who enjoyed themselves while watching this week’s edition of Saturday Night Live, which followed the confirmed results that Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential elections. James was as involved in the political process as he has ever been, creating a new non-profit with his friend and business partner Maverick Carter ‘More Than A Vote,’ to tackle voter suppression while using his platform more than ever to draw attention to issues that plague the United States and in particular, harm the lives of Black people in the United States.

But just like many who enjoyed the results of the election, James also needed to laugh. He had plenty on social media but Jim Carrey’s role in the open of the Nov. 7 SNL got LeBron excited enough to tweet at Carrey, who has played Joe Biden on SNL.

LeBron has been pretty busy posting about the election ever since it became clear that Donald Trump had lost the election.

LeBron James had some amazing posts after Joe Biden’s victory over Donald Trump

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is super hyped after the election ended with Joe Biden beating Donald Trump.

Count LeBron James as many of the millions of American citizens who were excited to see the victory of Vice President Joe Biden as the President-Elect in the 2020 election against current incumbent Donald Trump. With Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Georgia going Biden’s way early, LeBron saw some of the great content on the internet using his best moments as memes for the Trump defeat.

NBA championship teams haven’t gone to the White House since Trump became the president and James is very excited to do the traditional trip to the White House with the Lakers.

LeBron is also super stoked to see the legendary comedian Dave Chappelle on Saturday Night Live later on.

James has put in a lot of work with his massive platform in trying to get people to vote Donald Trump out of office. He created a non-profit ‘More Than A Vote’ to help combat voter suppression and help drive voter turnout in cities like Detroit, Milwaukee, and Atlanta.

Daryl Morey, Ben Simmons, other Sixers join in to celebrate Joe Biden

The Philadelphia 76ers all join in on celebrating new President Joe Biden.

The 2020 election is all, but over, as Joe Biden is set to win the 2020 election and become the 46th President of the United States of America. The win comes at an important time as the world is still dealing with the global coronavirus pandemic as well as civil rights issues.

Biden defeated incumbent Donald Trump in the race and he has the support of a lot of people in America right now.

The Philadelphia 76ers, who had a powerful influence on the voting turnout in the city, had a lot of big reactions to Biden winning. Joel Embiid and Josh Richardson were the first to react to the news, but new Sixers president Daryl Morey took it a step further by going out into the streets to celebrate the victory.

Ben Simmons then joined in the fun taking Trump’s “bad things happen in Philadelphia” quote and replacing the word “bad” with “good” things happen in Philly.

Then, there was Matisse Thybulle who kept pushing the message of how important voting is. He chose the word “vote” on the back of his jersey for his social justice message while the team was in the bubble.

Tobias Harris was a positive influence in leading the team’s social justice efforts while down in Orlando and he also shared a congratulatory post for Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

This is a huge step forward for America as it shows that democracy is still a thing in this country. It also shows how important it is to vote and left your voice be heard on important issues like what is going on in the country. [lawrence-related id=38915,38912,38909]

Current, former Boston Celtics react to Joe Biden winning presidency

Current and former Boston Celtics reacted to the election of Joe Biden to become the 46th president of the United States.

On Saturday, Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden was called as winner of the 2020 U.S. presidential election, and a number of current and former Boston Celtics (and Celtics-adjacent family) weighed in on the former Vice President’s victory.

Outspoken Celtics big man Enes Kanter rarely weighs in on partisan politics as an immigrant working his way towards earning his own U.S. citizenship, but that has never stopped him from being vocal about specific causes and issues he’s supported.

After news broke regarding Biden’s win over the incumbent Republican candidate Donald Trump, the Turkish center shared a clip of how people were taking in the news themselves in New York City’s Times Square:

Teammate Jaylen Brown had shown thanks for the outcome of a local election in California re-enfranchising citizens, but had yet to weigh in on the Biden victory.

Meanwhile, former Celtic center Jason Collins was more celebratory in his posting:

At least for today, anyway:

While Celtics champion forward Cedric Maxwell made it clear he was happy his candidate won.

While former Boston guard Marcus Thornton enjoyed the win in his own way:

As did ex-Celtic guard Kenny Anderson:

And while former Boston big man Al Horford may be mum online about politics for the most part, his sister Anna more than makes up it:

His other sister Maria is evidently pleased with the win as well:

While champion Celtic center Kendrick Perkins seems happy with the Biden win also:

Hopefully, the election over and called we can all turn our focus to the rest of the many things going on in the world — and with the December 22nd start date for the 2020-21 NBA season officially called and the 2020 NBA draft just two weeks away, there will be plenty of basketball news coming soon as well.

Opinion: People are pouring out in the streets, cheering Biden, Harris and democracy

Celebrations break out as Biden wins presidency

It took the nation several tense days to get here, but late Saturday morning AP, CNN and then all other broadcast outlets, finally called the 2020 presidential election for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

I don’t really need to tell you that the last four years have been total chaos, as President Trump and his divisive rhetoric and politics have exposed deep divisions that exist in our country. As the vote counts continue to roll in, several things are becoming clear. First, more people than ever voted in this historical election. Totals continue to rise, but as of now almost 75 million people have cast ballots for Biden, while 70 million people voted for the sitting President. Second, Biden has gotten more votes than any another presidential candidate, including Barack Obama in 2008. While that margin is close, Biden is entering the White House with a clear mandate. Still, as vote totals indicate, we’re a deeply divided country, and that will not go away anytime soon.

Even with that in mind, as news started to spread that the victory had been called for Biden/Harris, people in major cities took to the streets to celebrate. Videos on social media show people dancing in the streets in Philadelphia, people cheering in New York, shouts erupting from high rises in Chicago.

If there’s one thing to be learned from this, it’s what one Twitter used pointed out.

“Live your life in such a way that the entire planet doesn’t dance in the street when you lose your job.”

Way to get out and vote, America!
