Jets Thursday Week 6 injury report: Jermaine Johnson looking unlikely to play

Jermaine Johnson trending towards missing the Green Bay tilt

Note: Since the original writing of this article, Jermaine Johnson has been ruled out.

The New York Jets may be without one of their top pass-rushers for Sunday’s battle with the Green Bay Packers.

Defensive end Jermaine Johnson missed his second day of practice this week and he continues to deal with an ankle injury suffered during last week’s win over the Dolphins. It’s looking unlikely that Johnson will be available for the Green Bay game. It could mean more snaps for Bryce Huff or the activation of Vinny Curry from injured reserve as a result.

Duane Brown (shoulder) and Quincy Williams (ankle) were both limited again Thursday while Carl Lawson (ankle) and CJ Mosley (hip) both improved to full participation and both should be good to go for Sunday.

For the Packers, Aaron Rodgers practiced in full after missing Wednesday with a right thumb injury. There was never any doubt on his status.

LB Tipa Galeai (hamstring) and WR Christian Watson (hamstring) both missed a second day of practice this week. OT David Bakhtiati (knee), OL Elgton Jenkins (knee) and DL Devonte Wyatt (quad) were all limited for the second day in a row.

One key addition to Green Bay’s report was LB Rashan Gary, who appeared on Thursday’s report with a toe injury and was limited.

Jets get ‘Game of the Week’ treatment on FOX vs. Packers

The Jets will have some national spotlight in Week 6

The New York Jets have a winning record for the first time in a while and have become fun to watch for the first time in a while. Coming off their big 40-17 win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 5, the Jets now get the chance for a little bit of national spotlight.

The Jets travel to Lambeau Field for a date with the Green Bay Packers on Sunday and that game will be the Game of the Week on FOX. Their No. 1 broadcast team of Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen will call the game, which kicks off at 1:00 eastern. Chances are this will be one of Burkhardt’s last assignments with the NFL before working the World Series for FOX, which begins October 28.

The full broadcast map will be available later in the week, but the fact that FOX and the NFL are starting to take notice to the Jets truly shows we are in a new era of Jets football and these aren’t the same old Jets.

Jets vs. Panthers inactives: Keelan Cole, La’Mical Perine out for New York’s season opener

Keelan Cole and La’Mical Perine are both out with injuries in the Jets’ season opener against the Panthers.

The Jets will be down another wide receiver when they take the field against the Panthers, as Keelan Cole is out with a knee injury.

Cole was a limited participant in practice on Thursday, but did not take part in Friday’s walkthrough. Cole’s absence leaves New York somewhat thin at wide receiver, as Jamison Crowder was already out for Week 1 due to COVID. Elijah Moore, Braxton Berrios, Denzel Mims and Jeff Smith are now in line for an uptick in playing time and targets.

La’Mical Perine is also out with a foot injury. Perine was a full participant in Friday’s walkthrough, but will not suit up for the Jets in Week 1. Sharrod Neasman is out as expected with a hamstring injury.

The Panthers are almost entirely healthy for their matchup with the Jets, as rookie wide receiver Shi Smith (shoulder) is the only player out for Carolina.

Aaron Rodgers ‘excited’ over Zach Wilson’s future: ‘He can throw the heck out of it’

Aaron Rodgers is excited to see what Jets QB Zach Wilson can accomplish in his rookie year and beyond.

Aaron Rodgers did not suit up for the Packers’ preseason Week 2 clash with the Jets, giving him time to observe Zach Wilson in a game situation for the first time.

Rodgers got to know Wilson a bit during the offseason and spent joint practices with the Jets on Wednesday and Thursday chatting with New York’s prized quarterback. Saturday showed Wilson in a different light, though, as Rodgers watched the BYU product make throws that had him gushing over his future in the NFL.

“He’s a good young kid, has a nice disposition,” Rodgers said. “That kid can throw the heck out of that ball and that was a nice one down the right sideline at the end of the first. I’m so excited for what he can do in this league.”

When a quarterback of Rodgers’ caliber offers praise of another passer, it often isn’t lip service. Wilson’s play against the Packers dictated Rodgers’ evaluation, as he went an impressive 9-11 for 128 yards and two touchdowns through the air against Green Bay, showcasing his natural arm talent and playmaking ability in nearly two full quarters of action.

Rodgers even provided Wilson with some mid-game tips, giving him pointers and advising him on how to fix any mistakes he may have made.

“I really just appreciate him as a man,” Wilson said. “He’s an awesome guy. He definitely doesn’t have to come up to me and say anything. I don’t expect him to, but it means the world to me that he’s able to come up to me, whatever advice it is.”

Wilson has garnered some comparisons to Rodgers early in his NFL career given his ability to make unique throws in the pocket and on the run. Comparing any rookie to a future Hall of Famer is ludicrous, but if Wilson can translate his preseason production into strong regular season performances, the Jets could have a promising quarterback on their hands.

“He’s been going through his progressions and he’s pretty good at that,” Robert Saleh said. “What you saw today is more of what we’re saying. I know sometimes the result’s not what we want, but his process is light years ahead of what a normal rookie’s process would be.”

Jets injury report: New York receives encouraging initial prognosis on Jarrad Davis

Jets vs. Packers preseason Week 2 injury report features an encouraging initial prognosis on Jarrad Davis’ ankle injury.

The Jets could not shake the injury bug in their preseason Week 2 matchup, as numerous players departed New York’s win over the Packers early.

Jarrad Davis was carted off the field early in the first half after sustaining an ankle injury. The Jets received encouraging news on Davis’ status postgame, though, as Robert Saleh said his initial prognosis is “promising.” The 26-year-old is undergoing further testing to determine the severity of the injury.

Conor McDermott was also carted off in the first half with a knee injury, but Saleh did not offer any clarification on his status postgame. Ronald Blair, who made his first appearance since 2019 against Green Bay, suffered a hamstring injury, while Corey Ballentine injured his knee. Ballentine provided one of the Jets’ most explosive plays of the game before departing, delivering a 73-yard kick return.

Of the Jets who did not suit up for the team’s preseason Week 2 action, Bless Austin and Morgan Moses both sat out due to personal reasons.

The best and worst performances from the Jets’ preseason Week 2 win over the Packers.

It’s just the preseason, but the Jets have themselves a winning streak.

New York notched its second win of the preseason against the Packers on Saturday, defeating Green Bay, 23-14. Zach Wilson led the Jets to a 17-14 halftime lead with two touchdowns and New York’s reserve defense pitched a shutout in the second half to keep the Kurt Benkert-led Packers’ offense at bay.

Here are the studs and duds from Gang Green’s preseason Week 2 triumph.

Takeaways from the Jets’ preseason Week 2 win over the Packers.

The Jets made it two in a row on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Packers, 23-14, in Week 2 of the preseason.

Zach Wilson impressed once again under center, while Corey Davis and Tyler Kroft delivered on the receiving end of Wilson’s passes. New York’s second win of the preseason was not all roses, though, as the Jets struggled in certain areas and still have a lot of issues to address ahead of their preseason finale against the Eagles next weekend.

Here are eight takeaways from Gang Green’s victory over Green Bay.

Zach Wilson just tossed his first professional touchdown in the Jets’ preseason Week 2 matchup with the Packers.

Zach Wilson is on the board with his first professional touchdown pass.

After leading the Jets to nothing more in his professional debut against the Giants last weekend, Wilson hurled an 18-yard strike to tight end Tyler Kroft on a seam route for his first touchdown with New York.

Wilson’s touchdown pass put the Jets up 10-7 early in the second quarter.

Jets vs. Packers inactives: Elijah Moore, Alijah Vera-Tucker miss second straight game

Jets vs. Packers preseason Week 2 inactives include Alijah Vera-Tucker missing a second straight game due to a strained pectoral.

The Jets are without a key piece of their offensive line for a second straight week, as Alijah Vera-Tucker is not suiting up against the Packers due to a strained pectoral, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post.

Vera-Tucker has not taken the field since the early days of training camp, as he missed the Green and White scrimmage and New York’s preseason opener against the Giants last weekend. Elijah Moore is also out for a second consecutive weekend. Other noteworthy contributors who are not playing against the Packers include Quinnen Williams, Sheldon Rankins, Morgan Moses, Bless Austin and Lamarcus Joyner. Tevin Coleman returns after missing Week 1 of the preseason due to personal issues.

As for the Packers, 32 total players — including almost all of their starters — are not playing against New York.
