Browns Injury Report: A flurry of injuries overwhelm Wednesday’s practice with Seahawks next

The Browns enter Week 8 quite banged up…

Sitting at 4-2, the Cleveland Browns are once again looking to shock the world as they will start P.J. Walker at quarterback against the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle, also sitting at 4-2, enters this matchup as banged up as the Browns, who were without tight end David Njoku, running back Kareem Hunt, and a laundry list of other players on Wednesday.

Dealing with injuries for the past four weeks, however, the Browns have managed to squeak out wins against the San Francisco 49ers and the Indianapolis Colts in back-to-back weeks. They will be looking for similar luck this week as they travel out west for a two-game road trip against the Seahawks this week, then the Arizona Cardinals the week after that.

Here is the full list of players that were either limited in practice or missed practice for the Browns as they prepare for their Week 8 showdown in the Pacific Northwest. With two days of practice left, let’s hope this trends in the right direction.

PFF’s 10 highest-graded Browns’ offensive players vs. Colts

The offense found a way yet again

Quarterback Deshaun Watson returned to the field for the Cleveland Browns but not for long after a big hit in the first quarter the quarterback would not return. P.J. Walker took over again and though it wasn’t great all the time he was able to be good enough with the running game playing better as well.

In the end, the offense was able to put up over 30 points with some assists from the defense. Rookie Dawand Jones continues to impress and looks like a massive steal for general manager Andrew Berry. Overall the offensive line has shown serious improvements over the last two weeks.

Left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. has stacked a couple of nice games after a rough start to the season. The wide receivers and tight ends continue to get open and make plays if the team could just get solid quarterback play.

Here are the top 10 performances on offense according to PFF in the win over the Colts.

Fantasy Football: 10 waiver wire targets for NFL Week 8

Rams running back Darrell Henderson is among the top fantasy football waiver wire targets of the week.

Another weekend of NFL action means another slew of injuries.

On the running back front, the Los Angeles Rams had to find a replacement for Kyren Williams after placing the fantasy gem on injured reserve. On Sunday, Darrell Henderson was L.A.’s top back, although Royce Freeman was also mixed in.

Henderson and Freeman are both worth claiming, but Henderson seems like the better option while Williams is sidelined.

In related RB injury news, Cleveland Browns running back Jerome Ford suffered an ankle injury in Week 7, creating more snaps for Pierre Strong. Kareem Hunt might see an uptick in his workload as well, but Strong should be a priority target this week.

We’ve put together a list of 10 of our favorite waiver wire targets to claim ahead of Week 8, whith options at running back, wide receiver, quarterback and tight end.

Each player’s rostered percentage in ESPN fantasy football leagues is listed in parentheses. Ready? Let’s get to the list!

Schefter: Browns expected to be without Jerome Ford for 1-2 weeks

Next man up.

The Cleveland Browns cannot catch a break at the running back position. After already losing star back Nick Chubb for the season, and as Kareem Hunt battles through a thigh injury, the Browns are now expected to be without Jerome Ford for up to two weeks after he exited the win over the Indianapolis Colts. ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported that Ford is dealing with a high ankle sprain that “is expected to sideline him 1-to-2 weeks.”

Before leaving, he had busted a massive run on the first possession of the game, taking it to the endzone.

With the 4-2 Seattle Seahawks up on the schedule next, the Browns are already dealing with the uncertainty of quarterback Deshaun Watson, and now may be down to third-stringer Pierre Strong Jr. getting the bulk of the carries. The trade deadline is one week away. Can we expect the Browns to be one of the more aggressive teams on the market?

Watch: Browns get off to fast start with Jerome Ford touchdown run

The Browns get on the board early with an explosive run

It did not take long for the Browns’ offense to get on the board after second-year running back Jerome Ford took it 69 yards to the house on the offense’s third snap of the game. It was nice to see a fast start for Ford who ran hard and had his best game of his long career against the 49ers last week.

The Colts are a team you can run the ball on, especially without their best run defender Grover Stewart who is currently suspended. With Deshaun Watson just getting back from injury it is going to be crucial that the run game help to take pressure off of him to get the win.

We will see if the running game can continue throughout this game as the offense looks to take pressure off their great defense. Playing complementary football will go a long way for the team as they look to push for the playoffs.

Browns, Colts trade big-play touchdowns early

Jerome Ford and Josh Downs were probably not on many fantasy football players’ cards

The Browns are minus Nick Chubb for the season. That doesn’t mean their running game is dormant.

Early in Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts, Jerome Ford showed he has some pretty good wheels. Get it? Ford has some good wheels.

The 69-yard run on Sunday put the visiting Browns on top of the Colts, 7-0.

The lead didn’t last as Gardner Minshew, playing for Anthony Richardson, who is done for 2023, hit Josh Downs for a TD pass that was good for 59 yards.

Fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em: Week 7

Taking a look at some starts and sits for fantasy football in Week 7.

We now find ourselves a third of the way through the 2023 season with a Week 7 slate that features several vital fantasy football assets on a bye week.

After last week’s slate had just two teams with time off, fantasy football managers will have to do a lot of maneuvering to get around the six teams not playing. Teams on a bye in Week 7 include the Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans.

Doing start/sit articles can be a little challenging. The players featured on the list below should not be taken as “must starts” or “must sits.” Instead, these are more suggestions on what we believe managers should do with fringe players heading into the weekend. The choice is ultimately up to the manager.

Just because a player is listed as a “start” doesn’t mean he should be put in the lineup over the secure, bona fide studs. Vice versa for the “sits.” If there’s no better option on the waiver wire or the bench, a manager shouldn’t automatically sit the player. That’s why these can be tricky waters to navigate.

Second-Year Review: Analyzing the Cleveland Browns’ 2022 NFL draft class

Martin Emerson Jr. headlined the 2022 NFL draft for the Browns. But how is the class as a whole doing just over a year in?

The bye week offers teams a chance for introspection, free from the looming presence of impending opponents. Self-scouting is pivotal to teams as they assess their weaknesses and tendencies, especially during the bye week. The Cleveland Browns desperately needed to do it, especially with injuries to their offensive stars Nick Chubb and Deshaun Watson. It’s also a good time for fans and media members to look at the bigger picture. I thought I’d spend this time looking at the Browns’ 2022 NFL draft class, headlined by cornerback Martin Emerson Jr.

The Browns are becoming a real football team. In years past, we as fans, would be assessing a rookie class where half of the players would be forced into starting roles. The Browns are still performing a baptism by fire with 4th-round rookie Dawand Jones, who is playing fantastic. However, most rookies are sitting on the bench and learning how to be professionals. Successful teams always boast of developing four-year plans for their drafted players.

The Browns are finally establishing themselves as a real organization with a slow and deliberate onboarding of their young players. Only three players in the Browns’ 2022 draft class are playing significant snaps currently.

Let’s take a look at how that draft class is doing one year in at the bye week.

4 Downs: Refusing to overreact after a Week 4 loss to Ravens

What can we take away from this loss to the Ravens? Spoilers: Not a whole lot.

The Cleveland Browns have dropped to 2-2 on the season after a Week 4 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The Browns had their backs against the wall from the beginning as starting quarterback Deshaun Watson could not give it a go and rookie fifth round pick Dorian Thompson-Robinson was given his first career start.

And it did not go well.

Thompson-Robinson finished the game 19-of-36 passing for just 121 yards and three interceptions on the day. On the flip side, Lamar Jackson looked like his MVP self, completing 15-of-19 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns. He ran for another 27 yards on the ground and two scores against the daunting Browns’ defense.

There is not much to take away from this game. It is too early in the season to push the panic button. However, we can peel back the onion a bit and look at the layers of this game.

Here is your Week 4 edition of 4 Downs.

5 things to watch as Browns and Ravens get set to lock horns

What should we be watching closely in Sunday’s matchup between the Browns and Ravens?

For the third time in four weeks, we have another AFC North slugfest taking place at First Energy Stadium on Sunday. The Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens are both 2-1 entering this Week 4 matchup looking to notch another divisional win under their belt as well. The Browns have turned to Elijah Moore a great deal since the injury of running back Nick Chubb, and the Ravens will continue to allow quarterback Lamar Jackson to make plays with the football in his hands.

The Browns look to advance to 3-1 for the first time in awhile as they head into their bye week next week. They will then take on the high-flying San Francisco 49ers coming out of the bye week. Getting a win this week against the Ravens will go a long way in boosting confidence and morale in Berea as they have an opportunity to further their stance as a Super Bowl contender.

Without overlooking the Ravens (that would be a foolish thing to do), however, here are five things to watch in this AFC North showdown.
