Georgia WR Jermaine Burton facing knee injury

Georgia sophomore WR Jermaine Burton suffered a knee injury in practice on Tuesday.

Last week, Georgia star wide receiver George Pickens suffered a torn ACL in practice and will miss most, likely all, of the 2021 college football season.

It’s all about the “next man up” mentality for Georgia. Unfortunately, Georgia’s next man up, receiver Jermaine Burton, is now dealing with a knee injury of his own.

The sophomore was carted off the practice field during Tuesday’s practice.

According to DawgNation, Burton suffered a hyperextended knee and the extent of the damage is not yet clear.

Burton had a great freshman season in 2020, especially once JT Daniels took over at quarterback for the second half of the year. Burton, a former 4-star out of Calabasas, California, had 27 catches for 404 yards and 3 touchdowns last season.

Georgia has not yet made any announcements on the injury. Kirby Smart will speak to the media on Saturday.

Two Georgia Bulldogs named SEC Players of the Week

Two Georgia Bulldogs were named SEC Players of the Week following a win over Mississippi State: QB JT Daniels and WR Jermaine Burton.

The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs 31-24 thanks to several key performances. Quarterback JT Daniels had a career day in the victory. Daniels was money on third down and showed incredible accuracy on deep passes.

The SEC named JT Daniels as the SEC Offensive Player of the Week. He’s sharing the award with Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver DeVonta Smith, who set a conference record for receiving touchdowns in a career against Kentucky.

JT Daniels threw for 401 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Mississippi State. It was an impressive debut performance and he’ll start again this week against South Carolina.

Daniels completed almost half of his passing yardage to wide receiver Jermaine Burton, who hauled in two touchdown passes. Burton’s 197 receiving yards helped him win the SEC Freshman of the Week award.

Burton consistently found openings in the secondary and had the best game of his young career. Burton has been open much of the season, but the ball hasn’t found him often enough. JT Daniels and Burton have nice chemistry and all of a sudden Georgia’s passing offense looks quite formidable.

Now, Georgia must work to put together a more complete game this weekend against a South Carolina team without fired head coach Will Muschamp and several key players.

Flip alert: four-star WR Jermaine Burton commits to Georgia

Four-star receiver Jermaine Burton was originally committed to play for the LSU Tigers, but is now signing with the Georgia Bulldogs.

Former LSU Tigers commitment Jermaine Burton is the latest flip for Kirby Smart. Burton is a four-star receiver and is now committed to the University of Georgia. The Bulldogs have landed much needed help at receiver this signing class.

Burton played at Calabasas High School in Calabasas, California. The six-foot, 190 pound receiver is ranked as the eighth best wide out in his class.

Burton joins Marcus Rosemy, Arian Smith, and Justin Robinson in Georgia’s very talented WR class of 2020. This talented class is exactly what the doctor ordered in Athens!
