Angel Reese continues to rack up SEC weekly awards, named league Player of the Week for 7th time

The SEC simply has no answer for Reese.

The SEC simply has no answer for [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag].

The sophomore forward from Baltimore who transferred in this offseason from Maryland has been as impactful as any player in college basketball in the midst of a record-setting 2022-23 season.

After notching a pair of double-doubles this week (23 points and 18 rebounds at Vanderbilt, 23 points and 26 rebounds vs. Mississippi State) she’s been named the SEC Player of the Week for a record seventh time this season.

Averaging 23.7 points and 16 rebounds per game on the season, Reese notched her 27th double-double of the season in Sunday’s regular-season finale against Mississippi State, tying Sylvia Fowles’ program record. Sunday’s game was her fifth 20-point, 20-rebound game of the year, and she became the first SEC player to have two 26-rebound games in her career.

Reese and the rest of the Tigers will be in action this weekend at the SEC Tournament in Greenville, South Carolina, where two-seeded LSU will face the winner of No. 7 Georgia and No. 10 Auburn on Friday afternoon.

Three Tigers named SEC Players of the Week after big win over Alabama

Jayden Daniels, Harold Perkins and Mason Taylor all received honors from the league office.

With LSU’s emotional 32-31 overtime win over Alabama on Saturday night sending shockwaves throughout the SEC, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise to see several Tigers players among the conference’s players of the week.

For yet another impressive and efficient performance, [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week. Daniels was 22 of 32 passing for 182 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions while adding 95 yards and a rushing touchdown in overtime that set up the game-winning two-point conversion.

The player who caught that two-point conversion, tight end [autotag]Mason Taylor[/autotag], was named the SEC Freshman of the Week after totaling three catches for 36 yards and the touchdown that gave LSU a late lead near the end of regulation.

Last โ€” but certainly not least โ€” true freshman linebacker [autotag]Harold Perkins[/autotag] had arguably his best performance yet, totaling three quarterback hits, a sack and a pass breakup in addition to eight tackles. For his efforts, he’s been named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week.

After a statement performance, the Tigers will look to avoid a letdown next weekend as they hit the road to take on Arkansas. With a win in that game and an Alabama victory over Ole Miss, LSU would clinch the SEC West.

Three Tigers named SEC Players of the Week after win over Ole Miss

Jayden Daniels, Harold Perkins and Mekhi Wingo all earned weekly accolades.

LSU certainly made a statement on Saturday.

In the most significant upset in Week 8’s SEC play, unranked LSU took down previously unbeaten Ole Miss, giving coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] his first win against a top-10 opponent since taking the job in Baton Rouge. The Tigers trailed early but ultimately earned a decisive 45-20 win.

Given the performance, it shouldn’t be surprising to see a couple of LSU players earn weekly accolades from the league office. For their performances in Week 8 against the Rebels, a trio of Tigers players โ€” [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag], [autotag]Harold Perkins[/autotag] and [autotag]Mekhi Wingo[/autotag] โ€” were all listed among the SEC Players of the Week.

BJ Ojulari named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week

Ojulari received another honor from the SEC following his two-sack performance against Auburn.

Following another big performance, [autotag]BJ Ojulari[/autotag] has been named SEC Defensive Linemen of the Week. Ojulari has now received this honor in the last two games he has played, also earning it for his performance against Mississippi State in Week 3.

Against Auburn in Week 5, Ojulari had four pressures and two sacks. His strip-sack of Robby Ashford in the second quarter was returned for a touchdown by [autotag]Jay Ward[/autotag] and put LSU on the board.

Despite playing in just three games as he deals with nagging injuries, Ojulari has 18 pressures and six sacks on the year.

Already a highly touted prospect in the 2023 NFL draft, Ojulari is only boosting his stock.

LSU will need another big game from Ojulari against Tennessee’s potent offense when the Vols come to town for a matchup of ranked opponents this weekend.

Pair of LSU defenders among SEC Players of the Week

Jay Ward was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week, while BJ Ojulari earned Defensive Lineman of the Week honors.

LSU delivered one of the league’s most impressive performances this week in a 31-16 win over Mississippi State to kick off its conference slate.

The play of the defense was especially noteworthy against the Bulldogs’ air-raid passing attack, almost entirely neutralizing it in the second half as MSU scored just three points. After such a strong defensive performance, it’s not a surprise to see a pair of Tigers defenders receive accolades from the league office this week.

[autotag]Jay Ward[/autotag] was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week after a career game. Ward moved from safety to nickel for this one, and the result was an 11-tackle performance that also resulted in a game-clinching fourth-quarter interception.

Meanwhile, [autotag]BJ Ojulari[/autotag] made his return to the field after missing the win against Southern, and he was named the league’s Defensive Lineman of the Week after totaling four tackles (2.5 for loss) and 1.5 sacks.

The LSU defense was expected to be much improved this fall, and though it struggled in the opener against Florida State and lost defensive tackle [autotag]Maason Smith[/autotag] for the year on the first drive of the season, it seems to be getting its bearings.

If players like Ward and Ojulari continue to play like this, defensive coordinator [autotag]Matt House[/autotag] could have a strong unit by the end of the season.

Two Georgia Bulldogs named SEC Players of the Week

Two Georgia Bulldogs were named SEC Players of the Week following a win over Mississippi State: QB JT Daniels and WR Jermaine Burton.

The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs 31-24 thanks to several key performances. Quarterback JT Daniels had a career day in the victory. Daniels was money on third down and showed incredible accuracy on deep passes.

The SEC named JT Daniels as the SEC Offensive Player of the Week. He’s sharing the award with Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver DeVonta Smith, who set a conference record for receiving touchdowns in a career against Kentucky.

JT Daniels threw for 401 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Mississippi State. It was an impressive debut performance and he’ll start again this week against South Carolina.

Daniels completed almost half of his passing yardage to wide receiver Jermaine Burton, who hauled in two touchdown passes. Burton’s 197 receiving yards helped him win the SEC Freshman of the Week award.

Burton consistently found openings in the secondary and had the best game of his young career. Burton has been open much of the season, but the ball hasn’t found him often enough. JT Daniels and Burton have nice chemistry and all of a sudden Georgia’s passing offense looks quite formidable.

Now, Georgia must work to put together a more complete game this weekend against a South Carolina team without fired head coach Will Muschamp and several key players.

Seth Williams, Tank Bigsby earn SEC Player of the Week honors

The two were a major part in helping Auburn come out with a 35-28 victory over Ole Miss on Saturday.

Auburn got big performances from Seth Williams and Tank Bigsby in Saturday’s 35-28 victory over Ole Miss and now they are getting some recognition.

Williams, who caught eight passes for 150 yards and the game-winning, 58-yard touchdown, has earned SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week. On the game-winning touchdown, Williams caught a back-shoulder pass from Bo Nix with a little more than a minute left and then outraced the Ole Miss defense for the score.

Bigsby was named the SEC Freshman of the Week after rushing for 129 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries. It is the third straight week in which the true freshman has rushed for more than 100 yards.
