Jets’ Jeff Ulbrich on Haason Reddick’s availability vs. Patriots

Jets’ Jeff Ulbrich on Haason Reddick’s availability vs. Patriots

Step one was getting Haason Reddick into the Jets’ building to sign a contract. That was accomplished.

Now we wait and see if he can be ready in time to face the Patriots (1-6) in Week 8.

If you’re asking interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich? He thinks that’s going to happen.

While we wait to hear from Reddick himself, Ulbrich has weighed in on the 30-year-old’s availability ahead of the Jets (2-5) heading out to face the Patriots. Ulbrich indicated that yes, Reddick will be in the fold according, to ESPN:

Last weekend, Reddick ended his long holdout with the Jets. He reported for duty for the first time since being traded from the Eagles to the Jets on Monday.

As the week continues to unfold, Jets Wire will continue to provide updates on Reddick’s availability.

What Jets’ Jeff Ulbrich said about Haason Reddick ending his holdout

As perhaps one more rabbit up the sleeve for the New York Jets, pass rusher Haason Reddick is reporting for duty.

The Jets (2-5) acquired Reddick via trade in the spring. Since then he has had a rollercoaster holdout but this past week has decided to end that. As of Monday, he was in the building and prepping for the Jets’ upcoming game against the New England Patriots (1-6) in Week 8.

We’ve yet to hear from Reddick himself just yet. But it sounds like he’s going to be welcomed.

“Haason is going to fit right into this locker room,” defensive lineman Solomon Thomas told reporters. “He’s going to be a guy who plays hard, gets the quarterback down and a guy who creates turnovers.”

As far as the man at the top, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said he already had a meeting with the 30-year-old. Ulbrich noted Reddick is “fired up.”

“Ready to get rolling with us,” Ulbrich said. “He’s going to be fully integrated into all we do.”

The New York Jets (2-5) were topped by the Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2), 37-15, in Week 7 on “Sunday Night Football.”

The loss stings considering all the recent changes the team has made. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich is still in search of his first win and All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams is, too.

Here is Jets Wire’s instant analysis of the Week 7 loss to the Steelers:

Scoring summary:

First quarter 11:33 Chris Boswell Made 46 Yard Field Goal (3-0 Steelers)

First quarter 2:27: Breece Hall 13 Yard Rush (7-3 Jets)

Second quarter 8:20: Chris Boswell Made 29 Yard Field Goal (7-6 Jets)

Second quarter 5:29: Tyler Conklin Pass From Aaron Rodgers for 1 Yard (15-6 Jets, two-point conversion)

Second quarter 0:27: George Pickens Pass From Russell Wilson for 11 Yards (15-13 Jets)

Third quarter 7:49: Chris Boswell Made 21 Yd Field Goal (16-15 Steelers)

Third quarter 7:15: Russell Wilson 1 Yard Rush (23-15 Steelers)

Fourth quarter 12:09: Van Jefferson Pass From Russell Wilson for 4 Yards (30-15 Steelers)

Fourth quarter 0:26: Najee Harris 10 Yd Run (37-15 Steelers)

In an otherwise poor game on offense, running back Breece Hall managed back-to-back big games. Hall notched a touchdown run of 13 yards to give his team a 7-3 lead early. In addition, Hall shined in the passing attack, leading the Jets with six catches for 103 yards.

The two interceptions quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw were extremely untimely.

Just before halftime, Rodgers tossed one when he was forcing a pass down the middle of the field. Right after, Pittsburgh managed a touchdown with 27 seconds remaining. It wasn’t a backbreaker, but it hurt.

Then in the second half wide receiver Garrett Wilson dropped an easy catch and it was picked off on the deflection. After a long return, the Steelers pounded in that one for a touchdown as well.

Momentum was killed.

Beanie Bishop was the player who picked off Rodgers on both occasions. The second of the two felt like it might have ended the game.

The Steelers were leading 16-15 at that point and the interception, combined with the Wilson drop, and then the long return? The wind went right out of the Jets’ sails. New York did not score another point after that point.

This one is pretty simple: What’s the excuse now? First head coach Robert Saleh is fired, then the addition of All-Pro wide receiver was needed.

Not only was this a loss, it was ugly and might have ended the Jets’ season before Halloween. There was huge hype around this team in New York and it is now completely gone.

The Jets will complete their season series against the Patriots (1-6) as they head to New England for a 1 p.m. kickoff in Week 8.

Jets coach Jeff Ulbrich fumbles challenge flag, allowing Aaron Rodgers to throw TD pass

The Jets wound up with a touchdown and two-point conversion in a strange series of events

Things may finally be going the way of the New York Jets. At least for one play on Sunday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers they did.

Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich was trying to challenge the previous play. As he went to throw the red challenge flag, it dropped. Call it a fumble.

Because Ulbrich lost control of the flag, Aaron Rodgers went ahead with the play and threw a TD pass to Tyler Conklin.

On the ensuing PAT, Minkah Fitzpatrick was called for leverage, and Ulbrich decided to go for two.

It worked, also, as Rodgers connected with Garrett Wilson to give the Jets a 15-6 lead in the second quarter.

A new era requires a new Aaron Rodgers: Jets’ pass attack is excessive

A new era requires a new Aaron Rodgers: Jets’ pass attack is excessive

New York Jets running back Breece Hall played incredible on Monday night. Yet, instead of letting Hall pilot the team to victory, the Jets’ were determined to make quarterback Aaron Rodgers the hero.

42 pass attempts in week four, 54 attempts in week five, and 35 in week six have amounted to three consecutive losses for the Jets. What if Rodgers’ cry for Nathaniel Hackett wasn’t a sincere gesture of remorse, but actually a sob for his enabler (Hackett), knowing that interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich would lead a more balanced offensive attack by running the ball?

Still, coach Todd Downing allowed Rodgers enough autonomy in the pass game but the Jets squandered three of their four red-zone chances and threw a crucial interception that was somehow wide receiver Mike Williams’ fault.

Rodgers went 23 for 35, had 294 yards, and did tally two touchdowns however. Sure, he didn’t play horrible, but when Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson goes 20 for 26, and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen goes 19 for 25, and both of those AFC teams leave week six with victories, 35 Rodgers’ attempts (in a loss) seems excessive.

Now, instead of sobering into the reality of a 2-4 season start, Rodgers and the Jets are going to flood sports media with news regarding the acquisition of wide receiver Davante Adams.

Robert Saleh couldn’t get hug from Rodgers, Hackett could barely get a first-down from Rodgers, and if the Jets continue to spiral south after acquiring Adams, Ulbrich secretly knows he’ll be the blame. Nine AFC teams have a better season record than the Jets but none can say that they converted a hail-mary (sarcasm).

BIlls vs. Jets: QB Josh Allen better check his reads for D.J. Reed

BIlls vs. Jets: QB Josh Allen better check his reads for D.J. Reed

The New York Jets rank No. 1 in opponent pass yards allowed per game and defensive back D. J Reed is a major reason for the season.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen should be careful not to target Reed or all-pro Sauce Gardner in one-on-one situations tonight at Met Life Stadium. While rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman does possess extraordinary attributes, he hasn’t lined up versus a secondary this dynamic in 2024.

The Bills come into week 6 ranking No. 26 in pass yards per game. Of course Allen is still a handful to deal with, but the Jets have all hands on deck, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

The outcome of this week six AFC East rival matchup will come down to which team can force a crucial turnover and/or win field position. Reed and others have their eyes on Allen and that football, and an interim head coach ready to turn things around.

Sauce Gardner jokes about Jeff Ulbrich’s first days as Jets head coach

Jeff Ulbrich means business.

That doesn’t mean some of his players weren’t going to have fun with him as his first days being the head coach of the New York Jets unfolded.

The defensive coordinator was named the interim after the team sacked Robert Saleh last week. Star defensive back Sauce Gardner revealed that players were keeping the mood light during Ulbrich’s first days in charge, poking fun at him following the promotion.

“We was joking with him a little bit,” Gardner said. “‘Oh, you become the head coach, you actin’ different.'”

Gardner’s full thought can be found in the clip below:

Jets’ CJ Mosley on Jeff Ulbrich: ‘You want to perform your best for him’

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson said his team’s roster is one of the best he’s seen assembled under his watch.

That was a leading factor for why he decided to fire head coach Robert Saleh and name defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich the interim head coach.

It could pay off based on what linebacker CJ Mosley said.

Mosley noted the positive relationship he has with Ulbrich both relating to football and outside of the game. It’s a motivating factor for him.

“I know what makes him tick,” Mosley said. “You naturally want to perform your best for him.”

Jeff Ulbrich is not waiting a second to make his impression on the 2024 New York Jets.

After a 2-3 start to the year, head coach Robert Saleh was fired. Ulbrich, New York’s defensive coordinator, was installed as the interim.

Even with that temporary title and only just being named head coach, Ulbrich was bringing some energy in his first days in charge.

Ulbrich, 47, was spotted by cameras going from player to player prior to practice this week and trying to get them all going. He was certainly bringing some energy.

Broncos Twitter reacts to Jets stripping Nathaniel Hackett of playcalling duties

What does Nathaniel Hackett even do with the Jets now?

The New York Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh this week but opted to keep offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett on staff despite their offense struggling through the first five games of the season.

New York’s decision surprised NFL fans and pundits. Their next move was less surprising: interim coach Jeff Ulbrich announced Thursday that Hackett has been stripped of playcalling duties and Todd Downing is taking over.

Saleh planned to make that same change, but he was fired. Ulbrich apparently liked Saleh’s plan and he’s now implementing it.

No longer tasked with calling plays, Hackett’s role with the Jets is unclear, but they aren’t firing him. Here’s a sampling of how Denver Broncos fans and pundits reacted to the news on Twitter/X.

Hackett served as Denver’s head coach in 2022. He was fired with two games remaining that season after starting 4-11. Last offseason, new Broncos coach Sean Payton said Denver’s 2022 season “might have been one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL.”

It seems that Payton’s comments have been justified.
