Former Boston point guard Jeff Teague thinks Celtics fans should thank Steve Kerr for benching Jayson Tatum

If it provides the sort of motivation Teague seems to think it will, we probably ought to.

For some fans of the Boston Celtics, the dual benching of star forward Jayson Tatum was nearly a personal affront. For others — including Celtics alumni — such a snub is only going to be fuel for future Boston greatness. And among the latter category, we can count former Celtics floor general Jeff Teague.

Teague opened up about how he saw Tatum’s benching on a recent episode of his “Club 520” podcast, even going so far as to suggest the St. Louis native’s participation with Team USA for the 2028 Olympics might be in jeopardy. “Tatum, bro, he’s done with the Olympics,” said the former Boston point guard via Basketball Network’s Yakshpat Bhargava.

“They just ruined everything for the NBA now, the USA team did,” he added. “Now you tell Jayson Tatum that he is the worst player out of all the elites.”

“The only player to make the All-NBA First team, the rest others were all Europeans, and you all (are) telling me I can’t compete against Serbia?” asked Teague. ” … He couldn’t get him five minutes? I’m never going to be okay with that. But if you’re Boston Celtics fans, you all should be thanking USA basketball.”

If it provides the sort of motivation Teague seems to think it will, we probably ought to.

Ex-NBA guard predicts Trae Young will team up with Victor Wembanyama

This former NBA guard recently predicted that San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama will eventually team up with Trae Young.

As the San Antonio Spurs look to improve moving forward, Victor Wembanyama needs to be at the center of their minds. The 20-year-old rookie has been amazing this year, and he already looks to be the type of player they will be able to build their organization around for the better part of the next decade and beyond.

In just his first season, there were already some rumors floating around that the Spurs were looking to add talent next to Wembanyama. San Antonio was supposedly interested in adding Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young, and there’s still a chance they could look to add him at some point in the future.

Former NBA guard Jeff Teague recently spoke about how he believes Young and Wembanyama will team up eventually during an appearance on the Club 520 Podcast.

Teague believes the two stars will eventually play together, and if they do, it would make for a deadly combination, especially on offense.

Former Celtic Jeff Teague says he warned Jayson Tatum about Tyrese Halliburton

Teague also shared how he was impressed by the quality of basketball in the in-season tournament.

The NBA’s new in-season tournament (IST) exceeded expectations among fans and analysts of the game, providing entertaining basketball to fans of the Boston Celtics and the rest of the league in November and December, even if it ended poorly for fans of the Celtics at the hands of Indiana Pacers star point guard Tyrese Halliburton and Co. in Monday’s IST quarterfinals road loss to the Pacers.

Speaking on a recent episode of his “Club 520” podcast, former Celtics floor general Jeff Teague revealed he had tried to tell star Boston forward Jayson Tatum abut how deadly Hali can be with his Pacers. Teague also shared how he was impressed by the quality of basketball in the IST, saying it felt like the playoffs — quite an achievement so early in the season.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what Teague had to say about the Celtics-Pacers tilt, the IST, and more.

Jeff Teague on whether the Milwaukee Bucks or Boston Celtics will win the 2024 NBA title

A former player for both ball clubs, one is the clear favorite in Teague’s eyes.

Former NBA point guard Jeff Teague signed with the Boston Celtics only to see himself traded to the Milwaukee Bucks later in the season after a rough fit into the Celtics’ rotations. The move turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Teague, however, as the veteran floor general would go on to win a title with the Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Now, with both of his former ball clubs poised to battle each other to come out of the East and make it to the 2024 NBA Playoffs, Teague has his mind made up which of the two teams he used to play for will end up winning it all. His Finals prediction is a spicy one, with one of the Bucks or the Celtics facing off with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

To hear which of the two East teams he used to suit up for that he believes will win it all this season, you will have to watch the episode of his “Club 520” podcast embedded below, though.

Ex-Boston guard Jeff Teague’s favorite dunk was on a fellow former Celtic

Teague paid a steep price for the poster.

Pretty much any player in the NBA who can dunk has one he will always remember, even if it is the only dunk he has ever pulled off. For former Boston Celtics floor general Jeff Teague, his favorite flush happens to have happened on a fellow former Celtic.

Speaking on his “Club 520” podcast, Teague opened up about that dunk.

“My favorite dunk … was on Ray Allen. I only like that because (Kevin Garnett) was talking so bad. And when I dunked on him, then I airballed the game-winner!” he added (h/t Lex Diamond), laughing. “KG followed me to the tunnel (saying) ‘Don’t ever (expletive) with the basketball gods!'”

“I’m trying to run to the back of the tunnel like, ‘My fault, y’all!'” he added, cracking up a bit while he told the story. “Everybody’s mad at me, you just hear KG (yelling) ‘Don’t mess, (expletive)!'”

We would probably laugh too had we emerged unscathed from such an interaction — the Big Ticket was quite the imposing figure in those days; no word on how Allen took being put on the poster that sparked the exchange, though.

Every player in Boston Celtics history who wore No. 55

This is every player in Boston’s history who wore the Celtics’ No. 55 jersey for at least one game as of Aug. 2023.

The Boston Celtics have more retired jerseys than any other team in the NBA, but that doesn’t mean the rest of their jerseys have little history of interest tied to them.

In fact, with 17 titles to their name and decades of competitive basketball played in them, their unretired jersey numbers pack in some of the most history not hanging from the rafters of any team in the league. To that end, we have launched our accounting of that history, with every player in every jersey worn by more than one Celtics player in the storied franchise’s history accounted for.

Today’s installment focuses on the 13 players who wore No. 55 over the years as of Aug. 2023.

Four Boston Celtics alumni shifting places in 2009 NBA redraft

Some Celtics alumni have improved their position considerably, while others have slipped a bit with the benefit of career hindsight.

The tag team duo of Hoops Hype NBA analysts Frank Urbina and Raul Barrigon are back at it again on our sister site with a new NBA redraft, this time focused on the 2009 NBA draft class with a number of Boston Celtics alumni on the move compared to where they were actually taken in the draft back on that fateful day in the summer of 2009.

And as has been the case in each prior re-draft we have taken note of from Hoops Hype, some Celtics alumni have improved their position considerably, while others have slipped a bit with the benefit of career hindsight.

Without further ado, let’s see which former or current Celtics players ended up where.

Celtics alumni, adjacent react to former Boston guard Jeff Teague, Bucks’ Finals win

A number of Celtics alumni and Celtics-adjacent personalities took to Twitter to congratulate Jeff Teague and the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night.

While he couldn’t have known it would be with another team, it seems former Boston Celtics team president Danny Ainge managed to sign a player at the start of the 2021-22 NBA season who would earn himself a championship ring by the end of the season.

That would of course be veteran point guard Jeff Teague, who latched on with the newly-crowned league champion Milwaukee Bucks after being cut by the team he was dealt to by the Celtics at the trade deadline. Several current and former Celtics and Celtics-adjacent personalities took to the Twitterverse to congratulate the former Boston guard and his new team on their hard-fought win secured by a historic 50-point performance by league and finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Let’s look at some of their messages.

With the Los Angeles Clippers eliminated, which Celtics alumni are still in the 2021 NBA Playoffs?

There may not be any current Celtics in the postseason, but four Boston alumni could still win a ring.

While the Boston Celtics are no longer in title contention, there are still Celtics alumni in the running for a ring in the 2021 NBA Playoffs. But, the field of former Boston players still playing ball just took a hit with the elimination of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Old friends Rajan Rondo and Marcus Morris Sr. won’t be picking up a ring this year, but four former Celtics on two of the three remaining teams could still earn themselves the league’s most important hardware. With no Boston alumni on the Atlanta Hawks, that means if a former Celtic is going to help hand a banner this season, it’ll be with either the Milwaukee Bucks or the Phoenix Suns.

Let’s take a look at which Boston alumni might be celebrating at the end of July.
