3 things to know: Clutch late triple from Steph Curry helps Warriors survive Jazz, 119-116

After letting the Jazz fight back into the game, Steph Curry drilled a clutch 3-pointer to seal the Warriors victory on Monday night, 116-113.

After jumping out to a 14 point advantage against the Western Conference’s top team heading into the fourth quarter, the Golden State Warriors let the Utah Jazz creep back into the contest in the final minutes on Monday night.

Following a furious run led by Jordan Clarkson off the bench, the Jazz tied the game with 1:47 remaining in the final quarter. A clutch stepback triple from Clarkson pushed the Jazz over the Warriors with just over a minute remaining. However, Steph Curry was there to answer.

Despite missing his first attempt, a crucial offensive rebound from Kevon Looney gave Curry another chance. The sharpshooting point guard didn’t miss, drilling a 3-pointer with 14.5 seconds left to seal the Warriors’ win, 119-116.

Curry finished the contest with a team-high 36 points on 11-of-25 shooting from the floor in 37 minutes. The seven-time All-Star guard has now scored 30 or more points in 20 of his last 22 contests.

Following a win over the top-seeded Jazz, the Warriors will host the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference in a back-to-back on Tuesday, the Phoenix Suns.

Jordan Clarkson

While Curry highlighted Monday’s contest, Clarkson stole the show late with a sizzling scoring performance. The Sixth Man of the Year candidate tallied a game-high 41 points on 16-of-33 shooting from the floor.

Without Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley, Clarkson helped carry the Jazz back into the contest with a flurry of gritty buckets. However, it wasn’t enough to get past Curry at the end.

Kent Bazemore

Alongside Curry, Kent Bazemore gave the Warriors a solid secondary option in the starting lineup on Monday. The veteran guard notched 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field with four rebounds and two assists in 34 minutes.

With Kelly Oubre Jr. and Damion Lee sidelined, the Warriors will need to continue leaning on Bazemore in the backcourt for the final three games of the regular season.

Jordan Poole

With Curry and Bazemore carrying the starting backcourt, Jordan Poole provided a much-needed spark off the bench on Tuesday. The second-year guard helped pace Golden State’s shorthanded second unit with 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field.

Poole drilled four triples on nine attempts, including a buzzer-beater from half-court at the end of the third quarter.

Prediction

Jazz 117, Warriors 102

Moneyline (ML)

The Jazz (-455) are just too expensive, as there is no way to justify risking more than four and a half times your potential investment. AVOID. There just isn’t enough value in backing Utah with a $10 bet returning a profit of only $2.20 with an outright victory. The Warriors are +340.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The JAZZ (-9.5, -106) have gotten PG Mike Conley Jr. back from injury, and he has been folded into the offense nicely. They’re second in the Northwest Division and they’re running like a finely tuned machine. The Warriors (+9.5, -115) … not so much. They’re banged up, and not playing well. It’s a far cry from the better part of the last decade where they have been championship caliber.

Utah is 5-1 ATS in the past seven as a favorite, and 7-2 ATS in the past nine on the road while cashing in 16 of the past 21 overall. Golden State has been better against the number lately, but is 2-7 ATS in the past nine meetings with Utah and 1-6 ATS in the past seven in the Bay Area against the Jazz.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 216.5 (-110) is the lean, although the trends are all over the board. I expect the Jazz to win this one rather handily, although it might not be until the final minute before this one inches across the line. I wouldn’t get too carried away betting the total in this one.
