Michigan football QB selects transfer portal destination

Best of luck to him. #GoBlue

In 2022, Michigan football was all in trying to get Detroit (Michigan) King five-star quarterback Dante Moore to stay home. When the Wolverines failed, they turned to other options.

Though Alex Orji had become the household name of the 2022 class’ quarterbacks, Jayden Denegal committed in the summer — a three-star prospect who earned his offer through camp. The Apple Valley (California) prospect only appeared marginally during his three seasons in Ann Arbor and elected to transfer.

In a way, Denegal is returning home.

According to a report, Denegal will transfer back to Southern California to suit up for the San Diego State Aztecs.

The only stats Denegal registered in a Michigan uniform came in 2023, when he went 4-for-5 for 50 yards and a touchdown. He’ll have two years of eligibility remaining.

Denegal’s hometown, Apple Valley, is northeast of Los Angeles, so he will be about three hours from where he played high school ball.

Snoop Dogg shouts out one of Michigan football’s latest commits

One of #Michigan’s newest members will be coming to Ann Arbor with some extra street cred! #GoBlue

Snoop Dogg has long been an outspoken football fan, but his adoration for the game goes beyond that. In fact, he loves the game so much that he’s given back to the community through the Snoop Youth Football League, which has teams throughout both southern and northern California.

While we mention that, there’s a reason it ties into Michigan football. One of the Wolverines’ most recent pledges, 2022 Apple Valley (CA) four-star quarterback Jayden Denegal — who received an offer on Wednesday and committed shortly after — used to partake in Snoop Dogg’s youth football league. So when the quintessential rap artist got the news, he had to share a congratulatory message to his 61.7 million followers on Instagram.

If that doesn’t get you street cred, I don’t know what will.

Well, that didn’t take long.

Michigan football started trending for 2022 Apple Valley (CA) four-star quarterback Jayden Denegal on Wednesday, with five 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions coming in. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound pro-style signal-caller appeared to be also looking at Michigan State and Utah — with the latter having just received a commitment from former Wolverines target Nate Johnson — but Denegal appears to have settled in on a different choice.

The first prediction on Wednesday came from 247Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins, who specializes in West Coast recruiting, and he ended up breaking the good news for the maize and blue: Denegal has committed to Michigan.

Denegal is rated No. 264 overall in 2022, regardless of position, as well as the 19th-best player in both the state of California as well as at QB nationally. He has offers from Arkansas, Auburn and Georgia, amongst others.

With Denegal in the fold, Michigan now has 10 commitments in the 2022 class.

Has Michigan football found its 2022 quarterback?

It looks like #Michigan is settling in on its QB of the future! #GoBlue

Michigan football has struggled when it’s come to finding its quarterback of the future in 2022.

While it has a five-star on campus in 2021 in J.J. McCarthy and has been in pursuit for years of 2023 five-star Dante Moore, it’s struck out when it comes to prospects in 2022. From Nicco Marchiol — who committed to Florida State before flipping to West Virginia — to NC State commit MJ Morris, to Utah commit Nate Johnson, to Cal commit Justyn Martin, there hasn’t been an easy or obvious candidate at signal-caller for the Wolverines.

It appears that has changed.

On Wednesday, there’s been a run on 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions for Apple Valley (CA) four-star quarterback Jayden Denegal, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound pro-style QB. Starting with national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins, there are now five predictions indicating that Denegal will end up wearing maize and blue once the time comes for his commitment. Other predictions come from two MSU insiders as well as The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb and Brice Marich.

Denegal is rated No. 264 overall in 2022, regardless of position, as well as the 19th-best player in both the state of California as well as at QB nationally.

Michigan State football recruiting targets: Quarterbacks

Taking a look at the top quarterback targets on Michigan State’s recruiting board. Who will be the Spartans QB in the 2022 recruiting class.

Mel Tucker has brought a new enthusiasm and excitement to Michigan State’s football recruiting. Tucker is known as an ace recruiter and he is bringing that intensity to East Lansing.

In this series we will look at who some of Michigan State’s top targets are in the 2022 recruiting class.

First, the quarterbacks, the most important position on the field is obviously a priority on the recruiting trail for Mel Tucker along with offensive coordinator and QBs coach Jay Johnson.

Let’s take a look at Michigan State’s quarterback targets:

4-star QB Jayden Denegal: ‘Michigan State and Utah are really standing out right now’

In an interview with Rivals, 4-star QB Jayden Denegal said that Michigan State and Utah are “really standing out right now.”

Michigan State brought in new football head coach Mel Tucker largely because of his recruiting prowess, and 2022 will be the first recruiting class where Tucker really has the chance to prove his ability to land top recruits for the Spartans. Well, it looks like we are starting to see the inklings of that on the horizon.

On Wednesday, Rivals analyst Rob Cassidy posted an interview with 2022 4-star quarterback Jayden Denegal from Apple Valley, California and in it, Denegal said that MSU has an early lead on his recruitment, along with Utah.

“Michigan State and Utah are really standing out right now. Those are the major ones standing out.”

In the interview, Denegal mentioned that his brother went to Utah, so the family ties might give the Utes a big advantage, but either way, it’s just great to hear that the Spartans are in top contention for a player of Denegal’s caliber. He’s the No. 9 ranked pro style QB in his class so this would be a major land for Tucker and the Spartans.
