Ohio State football nabs another defensive lineman

In case you missed it, Ohio State football nabs another defensive lineman in the class of 2025 #GoBucks

Ohio State football is setting up to have an explosive 2025 recruiting class and today the class got even better. Jarquez Carter is a highly sought after three-star defensive lineman from the state of Florida and announced his intentions on playing for the Buckeyes Thursday.

Ohio State has added some serious talent to the defensive line this recruiting cycle and Carter will be joining Trajen Odom and Maxwell Roy. The consensus top 50 defensive lineman in the country was offered by Ohio State last November during a gameday visit and the Buckeyes have been at the top of his list ever since.

He chose the Buckeyes over Miami, who swooped in and stole Justin Scott last year. He also chose Ohio State over another Big Ten power in Penn State.

Ohio State football trending to add 2025 Florida defensive lineman Jarquez Carter

The Buckeyes are looking good with the Florida star who commits later this week #GoBucks

Although Ohio State football has a very good collection of 2025 defensive line commits, it’s still looking to add a few more.

One of those targets is Florida defensive tackle, [autotag]Jarquez Carter[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 2-inch, 284-pounder has the look of an interior player. He’s currently ranked as the nation’s No. 395 overall prospect and 42nd defensive lineman according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

With Carter making his commitment in just a few days, on July 18, it’s looking like the Buckeyes will get a BOOM! on Thursday. 247Sports insider, Bill Kurelic, has logged a crystal ball pick for Ohio State to come out on top in his recruitment. Miami insider, Gaby Urrutia, also changed his pick today to the Buckeyes as well.

His four finalists are the Buckeyes, Miami, UCF and Penn State. The expectation is that he will announce in Ohio State’s favor.

Penn State makes top six of four-star 2025 defensive lineman

Penn State makes the latest top-school cut for four-star defensive lineman ahead of visit.

Work is still ongoing for Penn State in the class of 2025 recruiting cycle.

With official visits just around the corner, it’s time for [autotag]James Franklin[/autotag] and his staff to start landing some of their top targets in this class as they sit with just 13 commitments as of now.

For comparison, the Nittany Lions have had 20 or more enrollees in every class since 2021. That means there is plenty of room left for Penn State to add more players.

They picked up some good news when making the top six list of four-star recruit [autotag]Jarquez Carter[/autotag].

The 6-foot-2, 270-pound defensive lineman from Florida is ranked as the 33rd-best player at his position according to On3’s Industry Rankings.

He’s already scheduled to take an official visit to Penn State, so maybe it doesn’t come as a huge surprise that they would be included in his top six, but he’s coming off a stretch where he saw five Power 4 conference heavy hitters over the winter and spring.

Other schools that made Carter’s cut are Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Miami, and UCF.

He’ll be taking his first official visit to Florida this upcoming weekend, followed by Penn State starting June 7, followed by a trip to UCF the week after that.

Right now, On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Gators as massive favorites to land the four-star with a 73.6% chance. UCF is second at 9.1%, while Penn State comes in at 2.9%.

Carter told Keegan Pope of On3 that “Miami, Ohio State, and then between UCF and Florida” are recruiting him the hardest right now, so it sounds like the Nittany Lions might not be too far in the race.

Penn State has been able to recruit the state of Florida fairly well under Franklin, and with Tom Allen taking over the defensive coordinator role, they should be able to maintain that based on Allen’s past high school coaching in the state.

It will be interesting to see how this process develops coming out of his official visit to Happy Valley.

Ohio State makes top six for 2025 Florida defensive lineman

Keep an eye on this one! #GoBucks

Ohio State football defensive line target, Jarquez Carter, narrowed down his list of schools he’s considering down to six on Wednesday. This was good news for the Buckeyes as Ohio State was amongst the top six alongside Florida, Penn State, UCF, Miami, and Florida State.

The 6-foot-2, 270 pound defensive lineman who attends Newberry high school in Florida, is listed as a four-star recruit and 33rd ranked defensive lineman in the 2025 class by the On3 Industry rankings.

Carter has expressed his interest in Ohio State through the process as he attended the Buckeyes November matchup against Minnesota and made an official visit to Columbus in late March.

The Buckeyes have picked up two edge rusher commits in the 2025 class from Zahir Mathis and London Merritt, but are still yet to land a commitment from an interior defensive lineman in the class.

Local 4-star DL sets official visit date with Gators, among others

Florida will be the first stop for this Newberry product on his summer official visit tour.

The list of official visits for the Florida football program continues to grow as the Gators continue their push for the top prep prospects in the nation.

One of the latest names added to the roster for the coming summer sessions is four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Jarquez Carter[/autotag] out of nearby Newberry (Florida) in the 2025 cycle.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 284-pound trench warrior recently revealed his list of official visit dates to On3 and has the Orange and Blue leading off his itinerary on May 31. He also has visits set with the Penn State Nittany Lions (June 7), UCF Knights (June 14) and Miami Hurricanes (June 21) on the weekends following.

Jarquez Carter breaks down the Gators

“I love the D-line coach they have. When I went there the last two times, he was showing me techniques and talking to my family and connecting with me. We talked about things outside of football,” he told On3 back in February.

“I love going to the games, the culture, the fans, listening to ‘Won’t Back Down’ after the third quarter and that feeling that you get when you go to the school. Also, me and most of the players have a connection.”

Recruiting summary

Carter is rated at four stars and ranked No. 359 overall and No. 42 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking rates him at three stars and ranks him at Nos. 390 and 32, respectively.

Florida is favored by On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine with a 75.5% chance of signing him, followed by UCF (9.5%), the Florida State Seminoles (4.6%) and Miami (2.3%).

Newberry defensive lineman gets Gators offer after junior day visit

The Gators offered this local three-star defensive lineman after his junior day visit.

Florida football is hosting a handful of high school juniors this weekend on campus for the first junior day event of the calendar year.

Among those in attendance was three-star defensive lineman Jarquez Carter out of nearby Newberry High, who stopped in on Saturday. Given his proximity to campus, it was not his first trip to the Swamp but it certainly made a significant impression on him — especially after receiving an offer from the program.

“It felt great to get the offer,” Carter told Swamp247. “I have been putting in the work this offseason since the regular season ended. I feel like I deserved it after all the work I have put in.

“I feel like it finally showed when Billy Napier cut my tape on today during the visit,” he continued. “He said that I impressed him a lot with how I move off the move and my change of direction. He said he knows how hard I have worked. So it felt great to get the offer.”

The 6-foot-2-inch, 284-pound lineman also had an opportunity to see the academic side of UF as well as the off-field work of the team during his recent trip.

“We got to see more of the educational part of Florida today and more about the college,” Carter said. “That was good to see. Really seeing what they do on a normal day, and what the players do on a normal day. Just seeing part of what they do for their offseason workouts. That was a good experience.”

Florida is not the only school with eyes on the area native. The Miami Hurricanes, UCF Knights, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Tennessee Volunteers, Penn State Nittany Lions and Ohio State Buckeyes have also reported interest in the Alachua County product.

Carter is ranked No. 44 at his position and No. 58 in Florida according to 247Sports. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine gives the Gators a 53.0% chance of signing him, followed by UCF (26.8%), Miami (6.2%) and Notre Dame (5.1%).
