LSU baseball falls to North Carolina in winners’ bracket, will face elimination on Sunday

LSU will play Wofford on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT in an elimination game.

[autotag]Luke Holman[/autotag] took the mound for the winner’s bracket game against North Carolina. The winner of this game advanced to the Regional final matchup and would be one win away from Omaha. North Carolina won 6-2 and sent LSU to an elimination game.

There were no early runs in this one as Holman and [autotag]Shea Sprague[/autotag] were both locked in until the bottom of the fifth inning. With two runners on base in the bottom of the fifth, [autotag]Vance Honeycutt[/autotag] hit a three-run bomb to give the Tar Heels a 3-0 lead.

In the top of the seventh inning, [autotag]Alex Milazzo[/autotag] started it off with a single, [autotag]Michael Braswell III[/autotag] followed that with a single, and [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] hit a single to load the bases for [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag]. Jones then was walked on a 3-2 count to bring in the first run of the game for the Tigers. [autotag]Ethan Frey[/autotag] then entered as a pinch hitter with the bases loaded against the new Carolina pitcher. Frey drew a walk on a 3-2 count to score another run for LSU. [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] then grounded into a double play to send us to the bottom of the seventh inning with the score 3-2 North Carolina.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Honeycutt hit another homer off of Holman, this time a solo shot, to extend the lead to 4-2 North Carolina. That homer chased Holman from the mound and [autotag]Justin Loer[/autotag] entered the game. Holman’s final line was 6.2 innings pitched and he allowed four runs on seven hits, 11 strikeouts, and one walk.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, North Carolina added some insurance as they tacked on two more runs to increase their lead to 6-2 as we headed to the ninth. LSU was unable to come up with any magic in the top of the ninth and the Tigers lost 6-2.

LSU will play Wofford on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT in an elimination game.

Best photos from LSU baseball’s walk-off win over Wofford in Chapel Hill Regional opener

Steven Milam played the hero for LSU once again on Friday, hitting a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth.

For much of Friday’s NCAA Chapel Hill Regional opener against Wofford, it looked like LSU was setting up for a date in the losers’ bracket.

It trailed 2-0 late into the game, and even as clutch solo home runs from [autotag]Steven Milam[/autotag], [autotag]Michael Braswell III[/autotag] and [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] all got the Tigers back into the game, it was still tied at three entering the bottom of the ninth.

That’s when Milam played the hero once again, crushing a walk-off solo homer as the Tigers won 4-3 and advanced to face top-seeded North Carolina in Saturday’s winners’ bracket.

As LSU looks to secure a spot in the regional final, here are the best photos from its dramatic win to open regional play.

‘Monster’ moment for Steven Milam as LSU walks it off to beat Wofford in Chapel Hill Regional opener

The late-inning antics continued for LSU as Steven Milam walked it off with a solo shot to win the game 4-3.

[autotag]Gage Jump[/autotag] got the start on the mound as the Tigers looked to get the Chapel Hill Regional off to a hot start. The late-inning antics continued for LSU as [autotag]Steven Milam[/autotag] walked it off with a solo shot to win the game 4-3.

Wofford got to Jump early as the Terriers used their small-ball formula to score two runs in the top of the second inning to make it 2-0 Terriers. After that, Jump was locked in on the mound, but so was Wofford. LSU was unable to score any runs and the Tigers only managed two hits against the Terriers starting pitcher, Branton Little.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, LSU finally got on the board as Milam hit a solo shot to cut the lead to 2-1.

Wofford answered that run with a solo shot of their own to extend their lead to 3-1 as we headed to the bottom of the eighth inning. That solo shot chased Jump from the mound. His day finished after 7.1 innings where he gave up three runs on six hits, nine strikeouts, and zero walks. [autotag]Gavin Guidry[/autotag] entered the game in relief.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Tigers tied the game as a [autotag]Michael Braswell III[/autotag] homer and a [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] homer tied the game 3-3.

In the top of the ninth inning, [autotag]Griffin Herring[/autotag] entered the game for LSU and he struck out the side to give LSU a chance to walk it off in the bottom of the ninth. Monster Milam led off for the Tigers in the bottom of the ninth and he promptly hit a walk-off bomb on a 3-2 count to win the game for LSU!

Home runs from Michael Braswell III, Jared Jones tie game in the 8th for LSU against Wofford

The Tigers’ offense woke up at the right time in Friday’s regional opener against Wofford.

[autotag]Steven Milam[/autotag] broke the shutout for LSU with a home run in the seventh inning against Wofford in Friday’s Chapel Hill Regional opener, but after the Terriers answered with a solo shot of their own, it went to the bottom of the eighth trailing by two runs once again.

[autotag]Michael Braswell III[/autotag] and [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] quickly erased that deficit, however. The pair each hit solo home runs as LSU tied the game at three runs apiece entering the ninth inning.

The Tigers struggled to get much offense going against Wofford early in the game, being held scoreless in the first six innings, but the offense woke up at the perfect time.

The Tigers look to punch their ticket to the winners’ bracket, where they’d likely face North Carolina on Saturday.

Photos from LSU baseball’s SEC championship loss to Tennessee

The Tigers fell short of an SEC title and will await their NCAA tournament fate.

LSU baseball’s special run this week at the SEC tournament in Hoover came to an end in the SEC championship game against the Tennessee Volunteers on Sunday.

The Tigers took the early lead on the Vols thanks to a 471-foot home run from [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag], but that wouldn’t last. In the third, UT hit a three-run homer and added another run in the seventh.

A two-run rally in the ninth got LSU back into the game, but it wasn’t enough as they fell 4-3. Now, coach Jay Johnson’s team will await its NCAA tournament fate on Monday.

In the meantime, here are the photos from the loss.

LSU baseball’s magical SEC tournament run comes to an end in championship against Tennessee

LSU ran out of late game heroics in the SEC championship on Sunday.

After the last two LSU baseball games ended in madness, the Tigers became the first No. 11 seed to make the SEC championship game. LSU would face off against the No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers.

This time, the magic ran out as the Tigers lost 4-3.

[autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] got the Tigers on the board first with a 471-foot solo shot in the bottom of the first inning to give LSU a 1-0 lead.

[autotag]Nate Ackenhausen[/autotag] got the start on the mound and he was incredible. He struck out five of the first six hitters he faced. In the third inning, he recorded the first two outs before being replaced by [autotag]Fidel Ulloa[/autotag]. Ulloa then gave up a three-run bomb and the Vols took their first lead of the ballgame.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, LSU had the bases loaded with two outs but [autotag]Stephen Milam[/autotag] got picked off on first to end the inning and keep the score 3-1. Tennessee added to their lead in the top of the seventh inning to make the score 4-1 Vols.

[autotag]Christian Little[/autotag] entered to pitch after Ulloa and unfortunately had to leave the game with an injury. Hopefully, he will be okay in the long run. LSU used eight different pitchers in the game as they tried to keep everyone relatively fresh for regional play.

LSU entered the bottom of the ninth inning trailing 4-1 and needing three runs to keep the game going. In the bottom of the ninth, Hayden Travinski hit a double with one out and Milam followed that with an RBI double of his own to cut the lead to 4-2. Mac Bingham then reached on a fielding error and advanced to second on the throw as Milam scored to make it 4-3 with the tying run on second.

[autotag]Ashton Larson[/autotag] and [autotag]Alex Milazzo[/autotag] then both struck out and LSU lost 4-3. LSU will now wait until Monday to find out where they are heading for regional play.

Steven Milam walks it off to send LSU baseball to the SEC championship game

The Tigers move on to the SEC championship game on Sunday against the winner of Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt.

After starting the SEC tournament 3-0, LSU entered the single-elimination portion of the tournament with a rematch against South Carolina.

The game started out awful for the Tigers as the Gamecocks teed off on LSU and built an 8-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning.

That is when the Tigers finally got on the board. [autotag]Michael Braswell III[/autotag] got the scoring started with an RBI single, [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] walked with bases loaded, [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] hit a two-RBI single, and [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] hit a two-RBI single to cut the lead to 8-6.

In the top of the sixth inning, South Carolina extended their lead with two more runs to make the score 10-6. LSU answered that in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot by Jones to cut the lead to 10-7.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, [autotag]Ashton Larson[/autotag] hit a sacrifice fly and Braswell III hit a solo shot to cut the lead to 10-9.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Ethan Frey entered the game to pinch hit for the Tigers and he led it off with a double. [autotag]Alex Milazzo[/autotag] laid a bunt down and an error by the third baseman led to [autotag]Paxton Kling[/autotag] scoring from second base to tie the game at 10! Braswell then stepped up to the plate with a chance to walk it off against his old team, but this time he drew a walk.

With runners on first and second and no one out, White stepped into the box. Tommy popped out to first base for out number one of the inning. The Bear stepped into the box after Tommy. Jones flew out to deep center but both runners advanced. With two outs the winning run was 90 feet away for Pearson. He grounded out to second base and we headed to extra innings.

In the top of the 10th inning, South Carolina attempted to steal home but the runner was thrown out for out number three…or so we thought. The umpires came together and ruled there was catcher interference by [autotag]Brady Neal[/autotag] therefore the run scored from third to give the Gamecocks an 11-10 lead. LSU then applied for a protest. The protest failed, [autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] got tossed, and we headed to the bottom of the 10th with the score 11-10 Carolina.

Travinski drew a walk on a pitch clock violation to start the bottom of the 10th. Stevan Milam then hit a two-run walk-off homer to win the game 12-11!!

The Tigers move on to the SEC championship game on Sunday against the winner of Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Tommy White explains love for LSU baseball as Tigers make postseason push

“I do it for the guys before me,” Tommy White said. “The guys last year, the guys before that.”

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth against Kentucky, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] punched LSU’s ticket to the winners’ bracket at the SEC tournament with a grand slam to put the Tigers up 11-0 and above the run-rule margin.

That ultimately proved to be the final score as White was one of two players to hit a grand slam in the game — joining [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] — as LSU became the first team to hit multiple in the same SEC tournament contest.

This season will almost certainly be White’s last with the Tigers. He’s a projected first-round pick in the 2024 MLB draft after two fantastic seasons as a transfer addition from NC State.

And while White didn’t commit to the Tigers out of high school, he doesn’t want his time with the program to end. A strong surge from bats like White’s has put LSU in a position to make the NCAA tournament, which seemed like quite an improbability just a few weeks ago.

After the win over the Wildcats, White explained his love for the program that he joined as a transfer two years ago.

“I do it for the guys before me,” White said, per On3. “The guys last year, the guys before that. I feel like the guys here now and myself owe them all something to give it everything we got for the time being or whatever we have left. The guys before me, I see how they do it or how they run this program, how they show up, keep coming back. I’m going to continue to do that. This means way too much to me, so I’m not going to take (the jersey) off right now.”

Wednesday’s win likely all but sealed LSU’s spot in the NCAA tournament, but its run in Hoover isn’t over yet. The Tigers will face either South Carolina or Arkansas in the winners’ bracket at 4:30 p.m. CT on Thursday.

LSU baseball hits 2 grand slams in run-rule SEC tournament rout against Kentucky

LSU followed Tuesday’s win with an 11-0 run-rule victory over the No. 3-seeded Wildcats.

After an impressive win over the Georgia Bulldogs on Tuesday, LSU followed it up with a win over the No. 3 seed in the SEC tournament as it beat Kentucky 11-0.

[autotag]Michael Braswell III[/autotag] got the scoring started for LSU in the top of the first inning with a leadoff homer to make it 1-0. Then, in the top of the second inning, he had an RBI groundout to increase the lead to 2-0.

[autotag]Luke Holman[/autotag] got the start on the mound for the Tigers and he was terrific. His day finished after six full innings of work. He gave up zero runs on zero hits, seven strikeouts, and two walks. [autotag]Gavin Guidry[/autotag] entered into pitch in the seventh inning.

In the top of the seventh inning, [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] got his first hit of the SEC tournament in dramatic fashion as he hit a grand slam to increase the lead to 6-0. [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] followed that with a solo shot of his own to extend the lead to 7-0.

In the top of the eighth inning, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] joined the home-run parade as he hit a grand slam to extend the lead to 11-0 and put the run rule in play.

With the win, LSU advances to play in the winner’s bracket on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. CT against the winner of the Arkansas-South Carolina game.

LSU baseball becomes first team to hit 2 grand slams in same SEC tournament game

Jared Jones and Tommy White made SEC tournament history on Wednesday.

In the top of the seventh inning of Wednesday’s SEC tournament outing against Kentucky, [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] broke a 2-0 game wide open with a grand slam to put the Tigers up six runs.

If that wasn’t enough, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] did the same in the eighth as the Tigers jumped out to an 11-0 lead against the No. 3-seeded Wildcats, co-champions of the SEC.

That second grand slam from White marked a bit of history for LSU, which became the first team in SEC tournament history to hit two grand slams in the same game.

LSU’s bats showed up to Hoover this week when needed. It entered the week on the bubble but has perhaps played its way off after a 9-1 win over Georgia in the opening round leading into Wednesday’s huge performance.

After LSU’s 11-0 run-rule win over the Wildcats, it will face either Arkansas or South Carolina in the winners’ bracket on Thursday.
