Jaquan Brisker embraces Bears-Packers rivalry: ‘I hate Green Bay’

Jaquan Brisker is already heavily invested in this Bears-Packers rivalry.

The Chicago Bears will start the 2023 NFL season in a big way against the Green Bay Packers Sunday at Soldier Field, which kicks off a new chapter in the rivalry.

Safety Jaquan Brisker missed last year’s Bears-Packers game at Soldier Field (Week 13) with a concussion, and he’s itching to get an opportunity to get to play his arch rival at home.

“I didn’t get to play last year the second game here in Chicago, so I didn’t really get the feel of that,” Brisker said. “I wasn’t even at the stadium. But now, I can’t (wait), I’m itching (to play). It’s Packers week. I know it’s going to be loud in the stadium, fans everywhere. You know it’s going to be loud … so, I can’t wait. They didn’t get to see me last year. They’re going to get to see me this year, though.”

And while it’s only his second year in the league, Brisker is already heavily invested in this rivalry.

“People hate Green Bay,” he said. “I hate Green Bay.”

Sunday’s game will mark the start of a new chapter in this rivalry following the departure of Aaron Rodgers, who’s now with the New York Jets. The Bears will look to break an eight-game losing streak against the Packers, who are 23-3 in the rivalry dating back to 2011.

Brisker’s status for Sunday’s game is up in the air as he recovers from a soft tissue injury that sidelined him for the last three weeks. But Brisker believes he’ll be ready to go. Wednesday will be a big indicator of whether we’ll see Brisker on Sunday.

Bears safety Jaquan Brisker ‘progressing’ ahead of Week 1 opener

Jaquan Brisker is itching to play in this Bears-Packers Week 1 game.

Jaquan Brisker has been sidelined for the last few weeks with a soft tissue injury, and this is an important week for the Bears’ second-year safety as he looks to suit up for Sunday’s season opener against the Packers.

Head coach Matt Eberflus told reporters that Brisker is “progressing” but things are looking “positive” for his availability for Sunday’s game. Although, Wednesday — when the team is in pads — will be the biggest indicator of whether Brisker will be ready.

“Like I said last week, he is right there,” Eberflus said Monday at Halas Hall. “He’s progressing. Wednesday’s going to be a big day for him, but it looks on the positive side right now. We’re looking at that. He had really good workouts this weekend.”

Brisker met with the media Monday, an encouraging sign for his status, where he explained he’s feeling much better now than he did just a couple of weeks ago. Brisker believes he’ll be ready to go Sunday, but that all depends on Wednesday.

“Two weeks ago, [I] couldn’t really do too much,” Brisker said. “Really wasn’t looking promising. Looking forward to Wednesday. It’s going to be a big day for me.”

Brisker missed last year’s Bears-Packers game at Soldier Field with a concussion, and he’s itching to get an opportunity to get to play in that environment in the NFL’s biggest rivalry.

What’s the latest with the Chicago Bears?

Bears safety Jaquan Brisker has been dealing with a soft tissue injury that caused him to miss the last three weeks. Head coach Matt Eberflus said the team is in “wait and see” mode with Brisker, where Wednesday’s practice will be telling for Brisker’s availability.

Here’s a look at the most recent and relevant Bears stories for the morning of Sept. 3.

Bears in ‘wait and see’ mode with Jaquan Brisker ahead of Week 1 opener

Is it time to start worrying about Bears safety Jaquan Brisker’s availability for Week 1?

The Chicago Bears got back some starters and other key contributors on the practice field Thursday, with the exception of two players.

Left guard Teven Jenkins was placed on injured reserve earlier this week, which means he’ll have to miss at least the first four games. But we already knew that.

It’s the status of second-year safety Jaquan Brisker that is a concern with the Week 1 opener right around the corner. Brisker suffered a soft tissue injury this summer, which held him out the last three weeks.

Head coach Matt Eberflus indicated Brisker faces some important days of rehab ahead heading into the weekend, where Wednesday should be an indicator of whether Brisker will be ready for the opener.

“He’s doing things this weekend,” Eberflus told reporters Thursday. “He’s been in there in practice this week, which has been good, and he’s been working off to the side also during practice, so he’s starting to get himself in there, and we feel good where he is. Wednesday will be a big day for him when we get back into the pads. So it’ll be a big day for us.”

Brisker’s status remains up in the air ahead of the first game week of the season. The Bears aren’t required to divulge injury information into Wednesday, which will be an important day for Brisker.

“It’s just the wait and see,” Eberflus said. “How does the rehab go this weekend? Because he’s doing something every day. He’s doing something Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and then into Tuesday, and we’ll see where it goes. And then when you get the pads on and start cracking and doing full-speed movements, then we’ll see where it is.”

Bears HC Matt Eberflus ‘confident’ injured starters will be ready for Week 1

Expect these Bears starters to be ready Week 1 when they battle the Packers.

The Chicago Bears have been plagued by injuries this summer. Every day, it seems like the injury report is a laundry list of names that never seems to end. It’s even more concerning considering that list includes several notable starters.

Head coach Matt Eberflus said he’s “confident” that injured starters — including safeties Eddie Jackson and Jaquan Brisker and wide receiver Chase Claypool — will be ready for the Week 1 opener against the Green Bay Packers.

Eberflus also said rookie right tackle Darnell Wright is “good” after he suffered an apparent ankle injury. Wright is likely day-to-day, and the expectation is he’ll be good to go in time for the first game.

The Bears have gotten some players back, including most recently linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who missed a couple of weeks with an undisclosed injury. He practiced in full.

Unfortunately, it’s not all good news on the injury front. Left guard Teven Jenkins is considered “week-to-week” with what Adam Schefter reported as calf strains in both legs.

Bears stock watch: Who’s up, who’s down after two weeks of training camp

Training camp performances ebb and flow but here are a few Bears players whose stock is rising as well falling after two weeks.

It’s been an eventful training camp for the Chicago Bears since the players returned to Halas Hall nearly two weeks ago. But things have kicked up a notch over the last few days. Whether it’s been the increased physicality with pads coming on, players jawing with each other following a big play, or even a scuffle or two that’s broken out, something exciting has occurred during every practice.

That includes the performances of the individual players and their progress throughout camp, good and bad. Some have built on their strong starts while others may have dropped off a bit. Here are a few players whose stock has risen in recent days and some who have seen theirs dip.

Defense won the day during Wednesday’s Bears training camp practice. Here are the players who stood out the most.

The Chicago Bears wrapped up their longest training camp practice to date this year and it was a spirited one to say the least.

Overall, the defense won the day with key turnovers, pass breakups, and big hits during the second padded practice of camp. There was plenty of trash-talking taking place between players and even some coaches during the nearly two-and-a-half-hour session up at Halas Hall. Going into an off day on Thursday, the Bears made sure to squeeze as much out of the players as possible.

Here are the players who stood out the most during Wednesday’s practice.

Jaquan Brisker says there’s a ‘different swag’ with Bears defense

Jaquan Brisker insists this isn’t the same Bears defense from last year.

The Bears defense was among the worst in the NFL last season, where they had the fewest sacks and struggled mightily against the run and defending the pass. But safety Jaquan Brisker insists this isn’t the same group from last year.

Chicago has revamped several positions, including linebacker and the defensive line, and are returning key starters. Brisker noted he feels a “different swag” with this unit, and he’s excited to keep growing the chemistry.

“Everybody knew last year wasn’t great and we didn’t want to go back to that, so flip the page,” Brisker said. “We’re a new team. We’ve got a lot of great additions. So we just knew going [in] that the secondary, we’re just going to keep our chemistry, keep our swag going up and try to create as many turnovers and things like that as possible.”

Brisker is coming off an impressive rookie season, and many expect a potential breakout year for the former second-round pick. For Brisker, he’s focused on improving as a playmaker.

“Just make plays, whether that’s in run support or whether that’s in the back end,” Brisker said. “Getting more [turnovers], creating more turnovers, interceptions, forced fumbles, and really just taking the ball away. That’s pretty much it. Doing whatever to help my team and try to move around a little bit more.”
