A Bears timeline of everything that’s gone wrong in the 2023 season (so far)

Breaking down all the mayhem of the Bears’ nightmare season to this point.

Over the last three decades, the Chicago Bears have been one of the NFL’s worst teams. They’ve won a total of four playoff games since 1994 and have just nine winning seasons in that same time span. Based on the sheer pandemonium the latest iteration has already faced, the 2023 Bears are somehow shaping up to enjoy the worst year of them all.

Below, you will find a timeline of everything that’s gone wrong for the Bears during this extremely young season. We haven’t even seen three games, and it feels like this franchise is about to be swallowed up by a massive sinkhole. Nothing is going right. Everything is broken. None of it is normal. And it doesn’t seem like anyone in a leadership position has solutions to right the ship.

Take a (very) deep breath, and let’s dive in.

Check out the best photos of Penn State players in the NFL in Week 4.

Former Penn State wide receiver [autotag]Jahan Dotson[/autotag] came up clutch for the Washington Commanders when he caught a game-ending touchdown on the final play of regulation, forcing overtime on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles. Unfortunately for Dotson and the Commanders, the result did not go their way in the overtime.

Meanwhile, in Dallas, Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys dominated Mike Gesicki and the New England Patriots. Parsons appeared to injure his ankle during the game but continued to play in the blowout. Parsons and the Cowboys have a major test next week on Sunday night against the San Francisco 49ers. That one should be a good one.

Bears vs. Broncos: Everything we know about Chicago’s Week 4 loss

The Bears choked away a 21-point lead as they fell to 0-4 on the season. Here’s everything we know about their Week 4 loss to the Broncos.

The Chicago Bears had it. They had their first win of the season within reach against the winless Denver Broncos.  But in true Bears fashion, they choked away the game to fall to 0-4 on the season (their 14th consecutive loss).

The game seemed put away after an impressive first half, where the team held a 28-7 lead in the third quarter. The fans were destined to celebrate a career day for quarterback Justin Fields that saw him set a franchise record for consecutive completions.

But, in a flash, Chicago was down 31-28, and Fields threw a demoralizing interception that sealed the win for the Broncos.

While emotions are high and the game is fresh in our minds, let’s break down  everything we know about the Bears’ Week 4 loss to the Broncos.

3 key matchups ahead of Week 4 against the Broncos

The Bears are readying themselves to battle the Broncos in Week 4. Here are three key matchups to watch.

The Bears’ Week 4 game against the equally winless Broncos is only a couple of days away, and the Chicago faithful are starting to become a bit more optimistic about their chances.

The drubbing the Bears received from the Super Bowl champion Chiefs in Week 3 is in the dark recesses of our memory, and many have concluded that a win would right Chicago’s sinking ship.

To pull off the upset win, there are crucial aspects of the game the Bears need to identify and work in their favor. Let’s break down those aspects and go over the three key matchups ahead of Week 4 against the Broncos.

Bears believe ‘one win would change a lot’ amid early struggles

The Bears are riding the NFL’s longest and franchise-worst 13-game losing streak. But the team believes a win is the perfect remedy.

The Chicago Bears have had a disastrous start to the 2023 season, where they’re staring down an 0-3 hole where they’ve lost by an average of nearly 20 points per game.

It’s been brutal all around — Justin Fields and the offense can’t get things going, the defense is letting opposing offenses walk all over them and the coaches have their team wholly unprepared.

Coach Matt Eberflus met with the Bears’ leadership council Wednesday morning at Halas Hall, where he delivered a message: “Fight” to end the 13-game losing streak.

“A lot of times what happens is, with human nature, is you make excuses,” Eberflus said. “You blame this, you blame that, you blame injury, you blame circumstance, you blame all these things.

“You can’t do that. You got to own up to what you’ve done. The circumstance is the circumstance. You’ve got to execute and do what you’re supposed to do. Do your job every single day. You never know when it’s right around the corner. That’s our attitude. We’re determined. We’re focused on this week alone.”

The Bears are riding the NFL’s longest active losing streak — and the longest in franchise history. But the team believes a win is the perfect remedy.

“A win fixes everything,” left tackle Larry Borom said, via the Sun-Times. “It makes your morale better. Once you get one you start to get addicted to it. We just need to taste it.”

Safety Jaquan Brisker echoed the sentiment.

“It just has to start with one win,” Brisker said, via the Sun-Times, “and one win would change a lot.”

Best photos of Penn State players in the NFL, Week 3

Here are the best photos of former Penn State football players around the NFL in Week 3.

While Penn State was basking in a primetime victory in front of a whiteout crowd in its fourth game of the season, a number of former Nittany Lions were gearing up for Week 3 in the NFL. There were some mixed results on the field and the win column for some of Penn State’s finest at the next level.

Former running back [autotag]Saquon Barkley[/autotag] was ruled out of the Thursday night game for the New York Giants after injuring his ankle in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals. And those same Cardinals handed [autotag]Micah Parsons[/autotag] and the Dallas Cowboys their first loss of the year. Former wide receiver [autotag]Chris Godwin[/autotag] also suffered his first loss of the season with the Tamp Bay Buccaneers after coming up short on Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Good, bad and ugly from the Bears’ Week 3 loss to the Chiefs

The Bears were humiliated by the Chiefs in a 41-10 loss. We break down the good, bad and ugly from the game.

It’s times like these that Chicago Bears fans need to stick together.

The Bears were embarrassed 41-10 by the Kansas City Chiefs in a game that wasn’t even as close as the final score indicated. Chicago has now lost 13 consecutive games dating back to last season, head coach Matt Eberflus has utterly failed to rally his team following a tumultuous week, and many fans are close to coming to the bleak reality that Fields is not the team’s quarterback of the future.

Even though we’re only just approaching Week 4, the Bears have reached one of their lowest points as a football franchise, as have their loyal fans.

Let’s do it. Let’s take the plunge into the… good (?), bad and ugly from the Bears’ Week 3 loss to the Chiefs.

5 keys to a Bears victory vs. the Chiefs in Week 3

The Bears need a lot to go right to get the win in Kansas City. We go over the 5 keys to a Bears victory.

Now that all of the drama and controversy from an eventful Wednesday have subsided a bit, Chicago Bears fans can look forward to a late afternoon Sunday game against the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Yay.

While the odds of the Bears winning are slim — and I mean, very slim — it’s not an impossible undertaking like it has been in years past. The Chiefs dropped their opening game of the season to the suddenly ferocious Lions, and Kansas City only scored 17 points against a solid-but-not-great Jaguars defense. The Chiefs may present a gigantic challenge, but it’s not an obstacle the Bears can’t overcome.

For the Bears to shock the NFL world, several things will need to happen. Let’s break down the five keys to a Bears win vs. the Chiefs in Week 3.

Bears safety Jaquan Brisker raised eyebrows by liking a harsh Stephen A. Smith rant

Is Jaquan Brisker just keeping receipts or does he agree with the rant?

The 2023 Chicago Bears just can’t help themselves, can they?

In the last few days alone, we’ve seen a Justin Fields “coaching” comment controversy, the general manager saying the team isn’t “panicking” in Week 3, the defensive coordinator resign, and even D.J. Moore admitting the team’s offense isn’t using him properly while mic’d-up. All of this is stacked on top of a disappointing 0-2 start where the Bears have resembled the worst team in professional football.

On Thursday, safety Jaquan Brisker may have fanned the Bears’ raging flames with some strange social media activity. The second-year player “liked” a post on Twitter that featured a Stephen A. Smith quote calling the Chicago organization “trash.” Note: This is the same Brisker who practically begged Bears fans not to boo the team after another loss to the hated Green Bay Packers.

I doubt we’ll ever know Brisker’s intent here — does he agree with Smith, or is he just using it as motivation? — but he had to know that people would see what he liked on a public platform.

The last thing the Bears could afford right now is more dysfunction.

Brisker appears to be one of the team’s leaders, but even seemingly tiny incidents like this will create more unnecessary questions for a group trying to pull itself out of a tailspin.

UPDATE: According to Nicholas Moreano of CHGO, Brisker clarified his Twitter like by saying he was indeed using the Stephen A. Smith quote as motivation:

Bears safeties Eddie Jackson, Jaquan Brisker exit game vs. Bucs

Both players are questionable to return.

The Chicago Bears lost both their starting safeties in the span of a few minutes. Late in the first quarter, Jaquan Brisker exited the game with an undisclosed injury, and a few plays later, Eddie Jackson limped off the field with his own ailment. Brisker walked to the locker room, and Jackson was carted there.

According to the Bears, Brisker is dealing with an illness, while Jackson has a foot injury. Jackson has been ruled out while Brisker remains questionable to return.

With both safeties out, the Bears are relying on Elijah Hicks and Quindell Johnson to step in for the time being. The defense was able to hold Tampa to a field goal attempt that was blocked, but didn’t fare as well on the next drive. Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield found Mike Evans for a long catch and run, which set up a rushing touchdown from Rachaad White.

Tampa Bay leads Chicago 10-7 in the second quarter.
