Florida included among this blue-chip EDGE recruit’s top 10 schools

The Gators are a major player for this five-star EDGE recruit.

Florida football earned a mention from one the most coveted edge rushers in the 2024 recruiting cycle recently when 247Sports five-star prospect [autotag]Jamonta Waller[/autotag] revealed his top 10 schools to 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 225-pound hybrid linebacker/lineman out of Picayune (Mississippi) Memorial included the Gators along with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Penn State Nittany Lions, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Ole Miss Rebels, South Carolina Gamecocks, Tennessee Volunteers and Texas A&M Aggies.

According to Wiltfong, Penn State is the leader in Waller’s recruitment heading into the summer, but Florida is the biggest challenger to the Big Ten program. The Orange and Blue’s efforts to get him into the Swamp have been spearheaded by defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong.

“Coach (Austin) Armstrong and I have a special relationship ever since he was at Southern Miss and even then he’s been saying the same thing about it’s a must he coach me.”

Auburn is scheduled to host him on an official visit the weekend of June 2, followed by Penn State the next weekend on June 9 and Florida after that on June 16; Georgia follows up with its own OV the weekend of June 23.

Waller is rated at four stars and ranked No. 102 overall and No. 9 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking also rates him at four stars and has him at Nos. 80 and 7, respectively. Ole Miss currently has a crystal ball prediction for him while On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine agrees, giving the Rebels a 77.0% chance of landing him, followed by Auburn (4.3%), Georgia (3.7%) and Florida (3.1%).

4-star edge rusher Jamonta Waller sets official visit with UGA, others

Four-star pass rusher Jamonta Waller is taking an official visit to UGA this June

Four-star pass rusher Jamonta Waller is one of the top players at his position in the class of 2024. Waller has set four official visits this June.

The four-star plans to visit Auburn from June 3-5. Waller has a Penn State visit locked in for June 9-11. He’s visiting Florida June 16-18 before finally visiting the Georgia Bulldogs June 23-25. It is going to be a busy summer for the talented edge rusher.

Jamonta Waller plays high school football for Picayune Memorial High School in Picayune, Mississippi. The four-star pass rusher is ranked as the No. 102 recruit in the nation. Waller is the second-ranked player in Mississippi and the ninth-ranked pass rusher.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker has won back-to-back state championships. The Picayune standout has committed to playing in the 2024 Under Armour All-America game.

Jamonta Waller took spring visits to LSU, Tennessee, Georgia, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and more.

The Georgia Bulldogs have 11 commitments in the class of 2024. Kirby Smart’s class of 2024 is rated at the third-best class in the country. The Dawgs have a realistic chance to end the cycle on top.

Here’s a glimpse at Jamonta Waller’s April visit to Georgia football:

Blue-chip linebacker pushes back official visit date with Florida

No reason is given — maybe the first weekend of June is a bit crowded — but the Gators will get this 5-star EDGE on campus in the middle of the month.

Among the many names scheduled to make their official visits to the Swamp is 247Sports five-star linebacker [autotag]Jamonta Waller[/autotag] out of Picayune (Mississippi) Memorial in the 2024 cycle. The 6-foot-2-inch, 225-pound flex defender, however, recently made a change to his itinerary, moving his official visit with the Gators back from the first weekend of June to June 16, according to Gators Online’s Keith Niebuhr.

The blue-chip recruit has made one visit to Gainesville prior back on March 11 — his only visit — from which he came away with a positive impression of what Billy Napier and his staff are building.

“It was just a great visit,” he told Gators Online following the visit. “When I visited there a couple of weeks ago, I just felt like it was somewhere I could be. I’m just taking it step by step, so I’m starting with the official visit.”

The Ole Miss Rebels appear to be an early favorite for the young defender as he stopped in Oxford twice in the last month.

Waller is rated at four stars and ranked No. 101 overall and No. 8 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking also has him at four stars and ranked at Nos. 80 and 7, respectively. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Rebels with a commanding lead in his recruitment, holding an 80.6% chance of landing him, while Florida (4.5%), the Penn State Nittany Lions (3.9%) and Alabama Crimson Tide (1.7%) tag along behind, respectively.

Gators hosting 5-star EDGE on official visit in June

Florida is beginning to lock in official visit dates for the summer. This five-star edge rusher is the latest to make plans with the Gators.

Picayune (Mississippi) Memorial edge rusher [autotag]Jamonta Waller[/autotag] wasn’t a five-star recruit when he made his first trip to the University of Florida earlier this month, but he was granted the elite status by 247Sports on Tuesday and is also planning on returning to Florida for an official visit, according to Swamp247.

The return trip to the Swamp should come over the weekend of June 2. Waller got to see most of what the school has to offer during his spring trip, but the team will be rolling out the red carpet for an official visit. He’s already close with the coaching staff, especially outside linebackers coach [autotag]Mike Peterson[/autotag], and should only benefit from an entire weekend around the coaches.

At 6-foot-2-inches tall and 225 pounds, Waller has the size to do a lot for Florida. The nice thing about Waller is that he’s not going to be limited to coming off the edge, although that’s where he might shine the most. Florida sees him playing in multiple spots if he joins the team, and that’s helped UF surge in his recruitment.

“They really jumped up,” Waller said to Swamp247 after his first visit. “It’s really because the Florida Gators see me doing some stuff all over. They said I can play some inside linebacker and outside linebacker, edge. All of that.”

Ole Miss currently leads the way on On3’s recruiting prediction machine with 86.9% odds to land Waller. An official visit to UF should change those numbers, though, and a potential June 9 trip to Penn State could also affect things.

Waller recently attained five-star status by 247Sports’ measure. He’s still a four-star recruit on the composite rankings, but 247Sports’ standalone list has him at No. 22 overall and No. 5 among edge rushers. The On3 industry ranking, which is similar to the 247Sport composite, has him at No. 121 overall and No. 10 among linebackers in the class.

Four-star edge rusher Jamonta Waller to visit Auburn

One of the best pass rushers in the country will be visiting Auburn.

Four-star edge rusher [autotag]Jamonta Waller[/autotag] is one of the best players in Mississippi and Auburn is very interested in him.

The feeling is mutual as he is unofficially visiting Auburn on Friday, he announced on Twitter Monday morning.

Waller is the No. 289 overall player and the No. 23 edge in the 247Sports Composite ranking. The Picayune native is also the No. 8 player from Mississippi.

He is coming off a dominant junior campaign for Picayune Memorial High School. The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder made 106 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, and 31 quarterback hurries.

Auburn needs to land multiple pass rushers in the 2024 cycle and Waller would be a nice addition but the Tigers will need to have a great visit. This is his first time visiting the Plains and they have some ground to make up on the rest of the schools that are pursuing him.

LSU offers 2024 4-star Mississippi linebacker

LSU is venturing deep into SEC territory to try and steal a talented linebacker from Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

Florida to host 4-star EDGE after extending offer

After extending an offer to four-star edge rusher Jamonta Waller, Florida is planning to host him once the dead period is lifted.

Florida offered four-star Picayune Memorial (Mississippi) edge rusher [autotag]Jamonta Waller[/autotag] on Thursday, according to a social media post he sent out in the afternoon.

Waller spoke with defensive analyst [autotag]Jamar Chaney[/autotag] and outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson before picking up the offer. He’d been talking with the program for a while and felt like the offer was coming, according to 247Sports.

“It’s something that had been kind of building up,” Waller said. “I have a good relationship with Coach Jamar and I just got the opportunity to talk with Coach Peterson today. We chopped it up on the phone and he was the one who actually offered me.”

It’s not the first SEC offer Waller has earned by a long shot, though. Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Missouri, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas A&M have submitted bids for him, and LSU offered on the same day Florida did. That’s 11 of the 14 programs in the conference, so it’s safe to say Billy Napier and Co. will be scheming either for or against him in the future.

The good news is that it should not take long for Waller to get to Gainesville for his first visit.

“I am looking forward to getting over there on March 11,” he said. “When I go, I want to have an opportunity to get on the field and somewhere that has good coaches who can develop me into a great football player and a great young man. I just wanna see if it feels like home.”

Waller’s schedule is busy in the spring. He’s giving teams a look before taking official visits in the summer, and programs like Florida need to wow him to earn one of five slots. Waller says the Gators “are up at the top,” but that doesn’t guarantee anything.

The 247Sports composite has Waller at No. 206 overall and No. 15 among edge rushers in the class of 2024. The site’s independent rankings have him just inside the top 200 at No. 199 and No. 12 among those at his position. On3 has yet to grade Waller as a recruit, and Rivals has him at Nos. 184 and 10, respectively.

LSU included among this 4-star EDGE’s busy spring visit slate

The Tigers will be one of many programs hosting Jamonta Waller for an unofficial visit in the coming weeks.

[autotag]Jamonta Waller[/autotag] isn’t messing around when it comes to his recruitment.

The four-star Picayune (Miss.) Picayune Memorial edge rusher has locked in a busy slate of unofficial visits for the coming weeks. He will take 11 trips in total during March and April, including one to Baton Rouge to see LSU on April 1.

Waller has seen his profile rise considerably. He currently ranks as the No. 205 player nationally per the 247Sports Composite, and he’s the No. 6 player in the state of Mississippi. Ole Miss is seen as the favorite right now, per On3, but Alabama is a riser after recently offering him.

After taking his slate of unofficial visits, Waller will decide which programs will get official visits during the summer. LSU will hope to secure one of those.
