Texas A&M’s defensive end depth took a hit this week after the assumed NFL Draft declarations from Nic Scourton and Shemar Stewart came to fruition on Monday afternoon, as the official opening of the transfer portal has led to coach Mike Elko fielding several offers.
After it was confirmed that former Nebraska defensive end James Williams would visit Texas A&M next Wednesday, Elko and his defensive staff are one step closer to landing more depth at a position in need of playmakers and run-stoppers after the Aggies’ run defense suffered during the latter half of SEC play.
Williams’s 6-6 250-pound frame and game tape show a pure pass rusher who produced seven sacks in two seasons, including five during the 2024 season, including multi-sack games against Purdue and Rutgers.
With Shemar Stewart headed to the NFL, Williams would become an immediate third-down pass-rush option that would open up the rest of the defense to get home.
