Ravens update status of TE Mark Andrews for Week 9 vs. Saints

The Ravens updated the status of tight end Mark Andrews for Week 9 against the New Orleans Saints

On Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens put out a big update surrounding the availability of tight end Mark Andrews for their Week 9 matchup against the New Orleans Saints. The team announced that he has been downgraded from doubtful to out, an will not be traveling with the rest of the team.

Rookie tight end Isaiah Likely will likely get ample opportunities in place of Andrews, marking his first career start if he’s deemed as such.  Likely stepped up big time when Andrews left Week 8 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, ending up with six receptions for 77 yards and his first career touchdown.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson is going to need to spread the football around without Andrews in the lineup. Jackson and Andrews have a special connection, so hopefully others can step up such as Likely, Devin Duvernay,  James Proche and more.

Ravens WR Rashod Bateman confident that Baltimore offense has big play ability

Ravens WR Rashod Bateman talked about how the offense has big-play ability

Coming into the 2022 season, the Baltimore Ravens’ wide receivers were talked about plenty.  The trade of Marquise Brown formed questions about how the rest of the team’s wideouts were going to be able to perform. However, Baltimore’s Week 1 victory over the New York Jets showed that the passing offense can still make impact plays, even with young options leading the room.

Ravens receiver Rashod Bateman was asked if his 55-yard touchdown reception gave the team confidence and more of an opportunity to open up that aspect of the playbook for the rest of the season. He expressed confidence that the group can make explosive plays, something he said will be needed down the stretch.

“Yes, for sure. It definitely shows signs that we can make some explosive plays for the offense. We’re definitely going to need that later down the line, so to show ourselves that we’re capable, it definitely helps us a lot, for sure.”

If the Baltimore offense can keep showing teams that they have success in the deep passing game, it will force defenses to take players out of the box, opening up the running game by proxy. There are many special talents in the Ravens’ receiver room with plenty of potential. It’s now time for them to show impactful production on a consistent basis.

Ravens release second injury report for Week 2 matchup vs. Dolphins

The Baltimore Ravens released their second injury report on Thursday ahead of their Week 2 matchup vs. the Miami Dolphins.

The Baltimore Ravens will play in their 2022 home opener against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in Week 2. The Ravens will look to get their second win against an AFC East opponent, but it could come with some key players not suiting up.

Baltimore released their second injury report of the week on Thursday ahead of their matchup with the Dolphins. The Ravens had nine players listed on the report, with more than half of them not participating in practice on Thursday.

Players featured on the team’s report were relatively the same from Wednesday aside from tight end Nick Boyle, who was given a day of rest, and defensive end Calais Campbell, who was removed from the list following his day of rest. Those who did not participate in practice on Thursday were wide receiver James Proche II (groin), fullback Patrick Ricard (calf), offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley (ankle) and defensive back Brandon Stephens (quad).

Players who practiced in full on Thursday were running back J.K. Dobbins (knee), cornerback Marcus Peters (knee) and defensive tackle Travis Jones (knee). All three have a realistic shot of returning to the field on Sunday. Closing out the report is cornerback Marlon Humphrey (groin), who was limited in practice.

If Baltimore is to be without Humphrey, Peters, and/or Stephens, the secondary depth will be tested. Players such as Jalyn Armour-Davis and Pepe Williams might be called upon to play a much bigger role than they did in Week 1.

Ravens WR Demarcus Robinson ready to step into role on Baltimore offense

Newly signed receiver Demarcus Robinson looks ready to play a role on the Ravens’ offense

The Baltimore Ravens signed veteran wide receiver Demarcus Robinson a few weeks ago in a move that already looks to be a solid one. The veteran suited up for the team’s final preseason game against the Washington Commanders, and put up an impressive stat line of four catches for 135 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown score on a beautiful double move.

After the game, Robinson was asked how much of the playbook he thinks he knows after signing earlier that week. He said that he knew enough to make a couple of plays, and as he gets more and more acclimated to the offense should be able to play a role in what the team does on that side of the ball.

“I don’t know. (laughter) I guess enough to go out there and make a couple plays. I’m not going to say I know everything, so I still have a lot of learning to do. But, I know enough to go out there and make a couple plays for sure.”

Robinson brings veteran experience to a young Baltimore receiver room as he’s played for five NFL seasons, all with the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s put up 145 catches for 1,679 yards and 14 touchdowns over the course of his professional career, excelling in contested catch situations while also having some deceptive speed.

The Ravens’ other wide receivers include players such as Rashod Bateman, Devin Duvernay and James Proche II. While each is talented, they don’t have the experience that Robinson does, and the team could rely on what the veteran has picked up over his time in the NFL early on, even though he’s only been with the team for a short time. He stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs around 205 pounds, so he can use his frame and ability to high point the football in a way that Baltimore could use, as they needed someone with that skillset on their roster. That could lead to snaps for Robinson, who the team looks to believe in already.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh shares update on WR James Proche II

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh provided an injury update on wide receiver James Proche II following Thursday’s preseason game

The Baltimore Ravens won their first preseason game of 2022 on Thursday over the Tennessee Titans by the score of 23-10. The victory marked Baltimore’s 21st consecutive preseason win, a record that dates back to 2015.

One player who was not on the field during the game was wide receiver James Proche II, who had missed Tuesday’s practice for an undisclosed reason. Following the game on Thursday, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was asked about the status of Proche.

“Yeah, he’s got a little soft tissue deal, so we’ll see. It’s not going to be too long, a week or two. So that’s where it’s at. Kind of a camp thing.”

If Proche takes the full two weeks to recover, it would put the wide receiver ready to play come Week 1 in the regular season. The Ravens may not want to risk rushing Proche back to fast and risk reinjury, but the current group of Baltimore receivers is getting somewhat thin

Fellow wide receiver Tylan Wallace is also dealing with an injury. He left Thursday’s preseason game during the first quarter. Harbaugh later said Wallace suffered a minor knee sprain and was unsure how long he’ll miss.

Ravens WR coach Tee Martin believes WR James Proche II is taking the next step

Ravens wide receiver coach Tee Martin talked about how wide receiver James Proche II is taking the next step

The Baltimore Ravens traded away wide receiver Marquise Brown during the 2022 NFL draft, which came as a shock to many different people. They also have chosen not to replace him on the roster through the draft or through free agency so far, which also caught a lot of people off guard.

Baltimore will be relying on a multitude of young talent at the position in 2022, including James Proche II. Wide receivers coach Tee Martin was asked about Proche after a training camp practice, and praised the third-year player for taking the next step.

“He’s doing excellent. He had a really good camp last season, and I think he’s doing even better this year, because he’s taken the next step – another year of experience. He played a little bit more in games last year, and he understands the opportunity in front of him. So, he’s attacking it every day. He’s asking a lot of great questions, he’s playing three positions for us and playing lights out. So, I look forward to seeing him play next week, as well.”

Proche is one of the many homegrown receivers that has the potential to play a massive role in the Baltimore offense in 2022. He has shown many different flashes throughout his first two years as a professional, and should have plenty of opportunities to deliver this season.

Ravens WR James Proche II raves about TE Isaiah Likely

Ravens wide receiver James Proche II spoke about what he’s seen out of tight end Isaiah Likely so far in 2022 training camp

The Baltimore Ravens had six draft picks in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and used two of them on tight ends. They added both Charlie Kolar out of Iowa State and Isaiah Likely out of Coastal Carolina, who will join Mark Andrews and Nick Boyle in the team’s tight end room.

While Kolar has missed all of camp with a sports hernia issue, Likely has shown plenty of flashes. Wide receiver James Proche II was asked what he thought of rookie tight end Isaiah Likely so far in camp, and the third-year player heaped praise on the rookie.

“He has great hands. Great hands, great route running for his size. He can stick and move at 6’3″, 200-whatever [pounds] he is. He just has great movements for his size, and I think that’s the most impressive thing.”

Baltimore has been using multiple tight ends on the field for many years now, and have been able to have a massive amount of success when trotting out two, three or even four tight ends. It feels as if the Ravens could be looking to run the ball a lot more than they were able to in 2021, and Likely is one of the players that could give the team a positive mismatch both as a blocker and as a pass catcher with his versatility to line up all over the field.

Ravens WR James Proche II discusses what he learned at vineyard internship

Ravens wide receiver James Proche II was excited to share what he learned from his internship at a vineyard

The Baltimore Ravens have many different players on their team, each of which has a wide amount of different interests. It’s great to be able to learn more about the Ravens off of the field, including what they enjoy doing in their free time.

Baltimore wide receiver James Proche spoke to the media alongside fellow wideout Rashod Bateman following the Ravens’ final rookie mandatory minicamp practice. Proche was asked about what he learned from doing an internship at a vineyard, and shared what he ended up doing over the course of the experience.

“It was amazing. I’m not a sommelier or anything, but I know a little something. A little grenache, a little tempranillo, zinfandel. I know a little. (laughter)You know something? So, it was a blessing. I pruned a whole row of grenache, probably like one hundred yards. Polishing glasses. They made me start over because there were spots on them. I did barrel testing, lab work, I did everything. I’m going back in July just because I have a surprise for you all in the next five [or] six years. We have to learn; I want to do it the right way. (Bateman: “That’s a long time.”)“Yes, patience, baby. Patience. We’re good. I have something in the works, for sure.”

Proche seemed to enjoy himself, and the fact that he’s going back in July shows that he’s ready to learn more. It looks like the wide receiver had a great experience, and he could even make wine a part of his post-football career.

Is there more than meets the eye to Baltimore’s receiving corps?

On the surface, Baltimore’s receiving corps doesn’t offer much for fantasy. Is that accurate, though?

Despite being the first wide receiver to top 1,000 yards for the Baltimore Ravens since Mike Wallace in 2016, Marquise Brown was traded to the Arizona Cardinals on draft day in exchange for a first-round pick. That move can be interpreted in one of two ways: Either the team was convinced Brown wasn’t a true No. 1 receiver, or Rashod Bateman is ready to take a leap.

Perhaps it’s a bit of both.

Regardless, between the Brown deal and Sammy Watkins signing with the Green Bay Packers, the Ravens find themselves minus two of their top three receivers in terms of yardage from 2021. Of course, the caveat to that is the presence of tight end Mark Andrews (107-1,361-9), who is the real No. 1 option in Baltimore no matter what’s happening outside.

Still, Brown and Watkins were collectively targeted 195 times last season, and those passes will have to go somewhere else in 2022. Let’s see what options quarterback Lamar Jackson will have as he enters the final year of his rookie contract.

Ravens WR Rashod Bateman discusses differences he’s seen in QB Lamar Jackson

Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman discussed the differences that he’s seen in quarterback Lamar Jackson

The Baltimore Ravens held mandatory minicamp in Owings Mills last week from Tuesday through Thursday. It was a chance to what progress the players had made from doing their own workouts in the offseason. On the offensive side of the ball, Baltimore will be looking to bounce back from a year where they struggled at times due to a number of different reasons, including injuries.

Wide receivers Rashod Bateman and James Proche II spoke to the media after the final practice of minicamp.  They were asked about the differences that they’ve seen in quarterback Lamar Jackson this offseason, and Bateman said that his approach to the game is different, and also mentioned that he’s tired of the slander that Jackson gets.

“I just think that he’s coming in and he’s about his business. He’s been out here working day-by-day, and his approach to the game is definitely different. He’s eager, he’s ready to ball, he’s ready to show everybody who he is. We all know who he is, and I think we all are tired of the Lamar [Jackson] slander. But, I know who he is.”

Proche then added in one simple word in regards to the slander.

“Outlandish”.

The constant talk that revolves around Jackson surely motivates the former league-MVP, but he’s also good at tuning out the noise and focusing on what he can control. The quarterback is in line for a big 2022 season, and with the help of Bateman, Proche and others can have a bounce-back year after a rough end to his 2021 season.
