Titans add two offensive linemen to practice squad

The Titans added a pair of offensive linemen to the practice squad on Tuesday.

The Tennessee Titans are bringing in two familiar names to fill a pair of spots on the practice squad.

The team announced on Tuesday it has added guard Jordan Roos and center James Empey. Both players spent time with Tennessee this past offseason, and Roos spent time on the practice squad early in the season.

Roos also played in seven games for the Titans last season, starting three of them. He’ll provide a bit more insurance with right guard Daniel Brunskill battling injury lately.

After going undrafted in 2022, Empey latched on with the Miami Dolphins, where he spent time on the practice squad. After being waived in July by the Titans, Empey was claimed by the Green Bay Packers and also spent time on their practice squad. He has never played a snap in the NFL, though.

The Titans will return to the practice field on Wednesday and will release their first injury report ahead of Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks shortly thereafter.

Packers claim OL James Empey off waivers from Titans

The Titans waived James Empey after signing Chris Hubbard.

The Tennessee Titans recently made the decision to sign free-agent offensive lineman Chris Hubbard, and the subsequent move that was made to make room was the parting of ways with offensive lineman James Empey.

But the former 2022 undrafted free agent has landed on his feet, with the Green Bay Packers claiming the BYU product off waivers on Saturday.

The center went undrafted despite being one of the more experienced linemen in last year’s draft (41 collegiate starts).

Over his brief NFL career, the BYU product has spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins and, most recently, with the Titans.

Green Bay’s newest O-lineman did spend time on the Dolphins’ 53-man roster during his rookie campaign, but he did not take a snap in any of the games he suited up for.

Empey will take the spot of waived defensive lineman Jonathan Garvin and look to carve out a spot on the Packers’ initial 53-man roster.

Packers claim C James Empey off waivers from Titans

Empey went undrafted out of BYU in 2022. He has spent time with the Cowboys, Dolphins and Titans.

The Green Bay Packers claimed center James Empey off of waivers from the Tennessee Titans on Saturday, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN. Once he passes a physical and the transaction becomes official, Empey will take the 90-man roster spot vacated by Jonathan Garvin, who was waived on Friday.

In Empey, the Packers are getting a young player to help build the training camp depth at center.

Empey went undrafted out of BYU in 2022. He has spent time in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins and Titans.

Empey (6-4, 303) started 41 games at the collegiate level.

In 2022, Empey appeared in three preseason games for the Cowboys and earned solid overall grades over 94 snaps. He was with the Dolphins during the regular season in 2022 but did not appear in a game.

Dolphins elevate two offensive lineman vs. 49ers

Miami could use the depth.

Ahead of their Week 13 matchup on Sunday afternoon with the San Francisco 49ers, the Miami Dolphins have elevated two players from the practice squad to their active roster.

Veteran offensive tackle Kendall Lamm, who was just signed this past week, was the first lineman elevated.

The former Appalachian State tackle has played 86 NFL games and has started in 28 contests.

Lamm has also played some at both right and left tackle in his career which will be helpful with Austin Jackson and Terron Armstead injured.

Undrafted rookie center James Empey, who spent his collegiate career at BYU was the other player elevated. He can provide depth and may also be used as an extra blocker at times.

BYU’s James Empey trying to latch on with Cowboys after injury derailment

The Cowboys double-dipped in UDFA for centers. Will Empey prove to be more of a camp body or contender to the throne? Tyler Browning (@DiabeticTyler) dives into the film of BYU product.

The Dallas Cowboys continued their work on finding a long-term replacement at center as they added two in undrafted free agency. We already looked at Alec Lindstrom out of Boston Collège and they also added James Empey out of BYU. There isn’t much background on Empey available, but he was a three-year starter in high school and a team captain. He played both ways in high school and he played both tackle and guard.

He offers plenty of playing experience as he started every game his freshman and sophomore year at BYU, before battling an ankle injury that would plague him in his final two years. So does he have what it takes to make it on the Cowboys roster? Let’s dive into the tape and find out.

Independence Bowl Prospect Preview: UAB Blazers vs. BYU Cougars

Independence Bowl Prospect Preview: UAB Blazers vs. BYU Cougars #WinAsOne #BYUFootball

The Independence Bowl features two very impressive teams with the UAB Blazers (8-4) of the C-USA and the #12 ranked BYU Cougars (10-2) who fittingly are non-conference affiliated and categorize as independents. Despite being an underdog by almost a full touchdown, it is hard to envision UAB not wanting this victory more.

A win for the Blazers, who once had their football program removed, over a top ranked opponent in a bowl game feels like such a big deal for the young program, but that is not what we are here to evaluate. Let’s dive into some top prospects for each team and try and see what the Browns could be looking for!

Browns full 7-round mock draft v1.0

The first edition of the Browns Wire 2021 Cleveland Browns mock draft is here

Enough of breaking down other mock drafts. It’s time to do our own!

The first edition of the 2021 Cleveland Browns mock draft is here. We’re going over every Browns pick in the draft, from the first-rounder at No. 26 overall to the final one near the end of the seventh round.

To help judge player availability at the spots, I used the mock draft simulator from The Draft Network to run five separate scenarios. If the player was available less than three times, they were eliminated from consideration.

Because we haven’t yet hit free agency, the Browns needs reflected here are the current ones. They could certainly fill some of the holes with veteran free agent signings, too.
