Duke head coach Jon Scheyer visits a notable UNC target this week

Duke head coach Jon Scheyer recently visited a top UNC basketball 2024 target, setting the stage for another head-to-head recruiting battle.

It’s a busy time of the recruiting calendar as coaches are out and about visiting key prospects and for one key UNC basketball target, he received a visit from arch rival Duke this week.

2024 four-star center [autotag]James Brown[/autotag] was visited by Duke head coach Jon Scheyer on Monday, according to On3.com analyst Jamie Shaw.

Brown is a top-30 prospect in the class, ranked No. 27 ini the 247Sports class rankings.

Brown has already locked in an official visit to North Carolina, scheduled for October 15th. He also has visits to Duke, Missouri, Illinois and Michigan State also scheduled.

The 6-foot-10 center recently discussed his interest in North Carolina with On3.com.

“I know a lot historically about the program, with their success and their many great players but that’s another school I’m prepared to learn a lot about,” Brown said of UNC. “That’s a school that I like, even outside of their basketball success but educational success as well. That’s something that’s really important to me and my family, athletics, but education as well. I’m really excited to get to know Coach (Hubert) Davis and his staff and the whole Carolina program.”

Brown has also previously said that UNC was his ‘dream school’.

This certainly could be another recruitment that comes down to the two arch-rivals.

Brown ranks as the No. 6 center nationally and the No. 1 player from Illinois in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports. He’s also listed as the No. 27 overall prospect in the class.

Brown holds scholarship offers from more than 25 schools, including Michigan State. Other schools that have offered him include Duke, Illinois, North Carolina, Missouri, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin.

James Brown offered by Rutgers basketball on Sunday.

Holiday weekend? In basketball recruiting, there is no such thing as a break.

Except of course for the dark period.

On Sunday, Rutgers men’s basketball sent out an offer to James Brown, a four-star recruit from St. Rita (Chicago, IL). The 6-foot-9 center is a class of 2024 recruit.

In the past eight days, Brown has gotten offers from Nebraska, Michigan, North Carolina, Indiana and then Rutgers. He also holds offers from DePaul, Georgia, Harvard, Illinois, Iowa, LSU, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Purdue and Texas A&M among others.

In the 247Sports Composite, he is the No. 27 recruit in the nation and the top-ranked player in Illinois in the class of 2024. He averaged 11.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.

Last week, Rutgers offered Latrell Allmond, a class of 2026 recruit who recently talked with RutgersWire about his relationship with the Big Ten program as well as Texas A&M.

Hubert Davis, UNC offer four-star 2024 prospect

The UNC basketball program has offered this four-star center in the 2024 recruiting class on Wednesday night.

Hubert Davis and his UNC staff have their eyes on a top 2024 prospect out of Chicago. After watching center [autotag]James Brown[/autotag] at the NBPA top 100 camp on Wednesday, Davis officially extended an offer to the top prospect.

Brown now has 23 offers in his recruitment with UNC joining the mix after the center has had an impressive sophomore season that has continued into the Summer.

The 6-foot-9, 210-pound center also has offers from Florida, Illinois, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Wisconsin and Arizona State among other programs. Duke is also showing interest but has yet to offer the talented recruit.

Brown is ranked No. 27 overall, the No. 5 center and No. 1 player in the state of Illinois per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

He’s now the fifth player in the 2024 class to earn an offer from the Tar Heels joining Jarin Stevenson, Cam Scott, Tre Johnson and Ian Jackson. UNC has yet to land a commitment in the 2024 class.

2024 Top-30 big man ‘excited’ about new UNC basketball interest

The UNC basketball program has begun to reach out to 2024 forward James Brown and it has the top-30 prospect excited to learn more.

As the summer recruiting periods begin, new names are already popping up on college basketball recruiting boards. For the UNC basketball program and [autotag]Hubert Davis[/autotag], there are a few interesting players beginning their recruitment with the Tar Heels.

One of those players is consensus top-30 big man in the 2024 class [autotag]James Brown[/autotag]. The 6-foot-9 center from St. Rita (IL) is ranked No. 27 in the 247Sports Composite rankings and is as high as No. 19 in the Rivals class of 2024 rankings.

Brown already holds offers from DePaul, Florida, Providence, Iowa, Kansas State, LSU, Wisconsin, Illinois and more. He is also invited to the USA Basketball U17 tryouts later this month.

While UNC hasn’t extended an offer, it has begun the relationship building process, according to On3.com.

College coaches can’t contact class of 2024 recruits directly until June 15 so much of the communication up to this point has come through Brown’s coaches.

Up to this point, Brown has visited Illinois, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Oklahoma.

His recruitment is barely underway, however, and with the likes of North Carolina getting involved, you can expect his recruitment to skyrocket soon.

Another blue blood that has reached out? Duke. Could this eventually be another battle between the two in-state rivals? Time will tell.
