Fantasy football: Where to draft New Orleans Saints QB Jameis Winston

Analyzing New Orleans Saints QB Jameis Winston’s 2022 fantasy football ADP and where you should target him in your drafts.

The New Orleans Saints have been struggling to adjust following the retirement of first ballot Hall of Famer Drew Brees and are looking to help quarterback Jameis Winston reclaim his career.

Below, we look at Jameis Winston‘s 2022 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

In 2019, Winston posted mammoth numbers, throwing for 5,109 yards and 33 touchdowns, but he also threw 30 interceptions — which got him run out of Tampa Bay and being viewed as 1st-round bust. After sitting behind Brees in 2020, he got the first chance to replace him, but tore an ACL in the 7th game of the season. He comes back this year looking for redemption and he has plenty of weapons around him to accomplish a successful return.

Jameis Winston’s ADP: 138.56

Winston’s ADP is a position that would have him not making a fantasy roster in a 10-player league because he is currently the 22nd-ranked quarterback and most fantasy owners don’t take 3 quarterbacks.

Winston finds himself on the back end of a QB run in the 14th round, landing behind Justin Fields (Chicago Bears) with an ADP at 137.10, Ryan Tannehill (Tennessee Titans) at 137.31 and Mac Jones (New England Patriots) at 138.10. After Winston, the drop is pronounced. The next QB on the rankings list is Baker Mayfield (Carolina Panthers) at 149.18.

Where should you draft Winston?

According to ADP, unless you’re in a 12-player league, Winston doesn’t look like he would be drafted and, if he was, it would be at the very end of the draft.

However, given the weapons he has at his disposal — the hopeful return of star WR Thomas, 1st-round rookie WR Chris Olave and versatile running back Alvin Kamara, whoever runs the offense is going to have the chance to put up some impressive numbers on a consistent basis.

While his injuries and erratic play are red flags for some, I would have Winston rated ahead of Fields, Tannehill and Jones simply because he has too many strong weapons to ignore. He’s a dice roll on being healthy, but if he is able to stay on the field, he could be one of the biggest sleepers of the 2022 quarterback pool.
