Jameis Winston has high praise for Cleveland as he enters free agency

Listen as Jameis Winston has high praise for fall in Cleveland and his desires for free agency:

Quarterback Jameis Winston is open to a return to the Cleveland Browns and praises Northeast Ohio as he gets set for NFL free agency.

Franchise superstar Myles Garrett isn’t the only Browns player on Radio Row wondering where he’ll play next season. Winston is spending Super Bowl week signed with Fox Sports as a media member. Winston has spent the week in New Orleans entertaining fans and players alike.

Winston canvassed the Chiefs and Eagles to determine where he would play next season. The two Super Bowl teams were recruiting Winston hard. Winston was flattered by the idea, but the quarterback was adamant he wanted to start next season.

A few players suggested he play in New York with the New York Giants or stay in his adopted home of New Orleans. In an interview with Kay Adams, Winston said he wants to return to Cleveland. Winston was enamored with the city. He said Cleveland was the most beautiful place for 90 days during the fall. The quarterback famously experienced all four seasons for the first time in his life in Ohio.

I want to see the gunslinger back in Cleveland. Winston didn’t get a fair shake with the Browns. The team was more concerned with tanking once their playoff chances dipped into the single digits.

Winston battled against multiple playoff teams in his limited starts. The quarterback was still plagued by interceptions, but I think the Browns were scratching the surface with Winston. I think a second year in the system would do wonders for a Browns team that needs an explosive passing attack. Winston is the cheapest option for a Browns team desperate for a quarterback.

Cowboys $91 million position predicted to be addressed in both draft, free agency

A review of what the Cowboys have at QB, what they’ll do once the league year starts with free agency and the draft.

With the 2024 NFL season concluding Sunday, it’s now time for all 32 teams to turn their attention to the 2025 season.  There is approximately just one month’s time for teams to finalize their game plans of how they want to attack the offseason and for the Dallas Cowboys, there’s a lot of work to be done.

The team has configured the majority of their new coaching staff, led by new head coach Brian Schottenheimer and his new coordinators Klayton Adams and Matt Eberflus. Personnel director Will McClay has been extended for five more seasons and now the attention needs to turn to fixing the roster that resulted in a 7-10 regular season record. Everything starts at the top, and in the NFL that’s the quarterback position.

Rostered: $90.9 million in cap space

The Cowboys have two players under contract for 2025, starter Dak Prescott and backup Will Grier.

Prescott enters the first year of his four-year extension signed at the beginning of last season worth $240 million. Currently he is set to take up $89.9 million of cap space, with the salary cap expected to come in around $272.5 million in 2025. Clearly the Cowboys aren’t going to allow one player to eat up one-third of their cap space and the team will restructure the deal, as was intended when it was signed.

Restructuring Prescott’s base salary ($47.75 million) can be done all at once, or as cap space is needed. The minimum base salary for a player with Prescott’s experience (7+ years) is $1.255 million. Up to $46.5 million of salary can be spread evenly over five years (four contract years and the first of four void years already built in) meaning the club could shave up to $37.2 million off of Prescott’s 2025 cap hit.

Grier is a placeholder, signed well after Prescott was lost for the year, and is no guarantee to make the club, or even training camp for that matter. He’s currently on the books for the league minimum of $1.17 million and has a cap hit of $1.03 million.

Prediction: Restructure Prescott, Grier is a camp body with a shot.

Pending Free Agents

Prescott’s primary backups for the last two seasons, Cooper Rush and Trey Lance, are both pending free agents. Dallas traded for Lance, giving up a 2024 fourth-round pick in 2023, and gave him no opportunity to prove he could be a viable backup whatsoever, giving them little game evidence to decide on.

Rush was given plenty of opportunity and again proved to be a capable bus driver who is mistake prone but able to win some games. Rush has a career 9-5 record with a 2:1 TD:INT ratio, going 4-4 last year with a career worst 40.8 QBR.

There will likely be some team interested in bringing Lance in to give the young guy a shot and likely some team interested in having Rush around while they groom a young QB out of the draft. There’s arguments for either or neither to be back in Dallas, but not both.

Prediction: Both sign elsewhere.

External Free Agents

There’s a limited amount of intriguing QBs in free agency this year, and the Cowboys aren’t going to be looking to spend significant space on a backup with so many other needs. Failures elsewhere, such as Justin Fields, Mac Jones and Daniel Jones, will probably have a market that prices the Cowboys out.

Prediction: Sign Jameis Winston, two-year, $7.5 million (void years), $2 million cap hit

2025 NFL Draft

The Cowboys could have gone in multiple directions with their head coaching hire, but clearly were looking for stability with the staff that has worked with Prescott. Any idea the club would be looking to escape Prescott’s contract soon and draft an heir apparent to groom went out the window with Schotty’s hire.

That doesn’t mean the club will be out on QB in the draft though, as it makes sense to draft and develop a future backup.

Prediction: Use one of their four fifth-round picks to draft a QB, such as Louisville’s Tyler Shough.

1 thing that must happen for the Steelers to lure in top free agents

Pittsburgh has to solidify the quarterback position before trying to sign any top offensive free agents.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are heading into free agency with plenty of money to spend. They should also have an opportunity to make some salary-cap cuts, re-do some contracts and really be sitting pretty to be big spenders when it comes to top-tier free agents.

However, none of that is going to matter until the Steelers do one big thing first. Pittsburgh has to have a veteran starting quarterback in place. Our preference would be Justin Fields which would then allow the Steelers to use a day-two draft pick in the 2025 NFL draft on a developmental quarterback like Jalen Milroe or Will Howards.

If the Steelers do decide to pass on Fields, they cannot wait to bring in a veteran. We hope it isn’t Russell Wilson but there are some names out there like Trey Lance or Jameis Winston if Pittsburgh wants to start over.

This isn’t to say any of them are the long-term solution but if the Steelers want to lure in a player like Tee Higgins or Amari Cooper, they want to know who is throwing them the football and they want to feel confident there’s someone there who can get them the football.

Colts named a best fit for free agent QB Jameis Winston

The Colts were named one of the best fits for free agent quarterback Jameis Winston by one NFL analyst.

Could free agent Jameis Winston provide the Indianapolis Colts with the competition they need at quarterback?

Justin Melo of The Draft Network believes that Winston and the Colts would be a good fit. Melo recently named the Colts as one of three best fits for Winston, along with the Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Jets.

“The Colts will probably prefer to bring in a higher-upside veteran this offseason to push Richardson for the job,” wrote Melo. “Winston would be an excellent addition, considering what the Colts are looking for behind their third-year signal-caller.”

Over the last five seasons, Winston has been a fringe starting quarterback, providing depth, competing for playing time, and stepping in when needed.

For his career, which began back in 2015, Winston has completed 61% of his passes at 7.6 yards per attempt with 155 touchdowns to 111 interceptions.

In this most recent season with Cleveland, Winston completed 61% of his throws at 7.2 yards per attempt with 13 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. The offensive production under Winston can be very boom or bust.

Adding competition for Anthony Richardson is an item that GM Chris Ballard said would be on the Colts’ offseason to-do list. After two seasons, his play has been too inconsistent and he has to prove that he can be healthy for a full 17 game season.

“We knew when we took him it was going to be a roller coaster,” Ballard said of Richardson. “The number one thing we have to figure out and have to work through is he’s got to stay healthy. That, to me, is the biggest question.

“We have to have competition at the position because competition makes you better and because he’s not proven he can stay healthy for 17 games.”

What we don’t know is to what extent Ballard wants to add competition. Is he willing to spend an early round draft pick on a quarterback? Or is Ballard looking to go the veteran quarterback route again?

How much are the Colts willing to push Richardson and are they okay with making him the permanent backup for someone else? Because if that happens, the window for Richardson and his time with the Colts could be closed at that point.

Watch: Jameis Winston pranks Jayden Daniels with fake photo

Jameis Winston has hilarious interview with Jayden Daniels.

Jameis Winston is one of the NFL’s biggest personalities. This week, Winston worked as a correspondent for Fox Sports during Super Bowl week in New Orleans.

Winston acted as a media member in his role, asking questions to players on both Super Bowl teams and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. There were plenty of hilarious soundbites from Winston, including a back-and-forth with Reid where Winston — a soon-to-be-free-agent — says he hopes to be able to play for Reid someday.

On Thursday night at NFL Honors, Winston had some fun with Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Winston asked Daniels if he was one of the NFL’s best-dressed players, to which Daniels responded, “For sure.”

Winston brought some “footage” to prove otherwise.

The photo, of course, is altered by Artificial Intelligence (A.I). Daniels and his mother enjoyed a good laugh at the photo. Winston asked Daniels’ mother, Regina if she was a big fan of Prince, and she replied that she was.

This led to Winston singing “Purple Rain.”

It was a hilarious segment. Winston has a bright future in the media world whenever he’s done playing. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft just completed his 10th season, appearing in 12 games with seven starts.

Travis Kelce, Jameis Winston share hilarious moment at Super Bowl presser

#Chiefs TE Travis Kelce and #Browns QB Jameis Winston shared this hilarious moment at a Super Bowl LIX Opening Night press conference.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has never been one to shy away from the spotlight and always seems to be in the middle of the fun wherever he goes.

On Monday, Kelce participated in a Super Bowl Opening Night with his teammates in New Orleans, Louisiana, and found himself in a hilarious situation with Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston in a not-so-serious moment during a press conference.

While Kelce was onstage answering questions, Winston stole the show to throw the veteran pass-catcher a cookie to comedic effect.

Check out Kelce’s full interaction with Winston, which was posted to Twitter by NFL insider Jordan Schultz:

Though Kelce and Winston have never played together during their NFL careers, the tight end’s nifty grab of the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner’s cookie would have turned the heads of any scouts in attendance,

Stay tuned to see if Kelce can make a few more impressive catches against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX this weekend.

Jameis Winston would ‘love’ to be Titans’ next quarterback

Impending free agent quarterback Jameis Winston says he would “love” to sign with the Tennessee Titans and stay in the Dirty South.

The new Tennessee Titans front office has repeatedly stated they are in search of their next quarterback and will turn over every stone to find him. With only Will Levis under contract, the direction the team goes in to potentially find their next signal-caller is still a mystery.

Having the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the Titans will have their choice of quarterbacks if they decide to go that route. But there are questions about whether or not any prospect in this class is a generational talent.

They could also look in free agency or a trade to find a bridge quarterback. One potential free agent who could be looking for a new team is Jameis Winston is searching for a new home. Could he be an option for the Titans?

Members of the Sick Podcast caught up with Winston and he made his feelings known when asked about the Titans.

“Man, I would love to go to Nashville,” he said. “I’d be in the dirty south. I’m from Alabama, Birmingham is two hours up the road, down the road from Nashville.”

The Titans are possibly looking for a veteran and Winston is that. Unfortunately, he might just be a more athletic version of Levis, often throwing caution to the wind in an attempt to make plays.

With poor decision-making and turnovers plaguing Tennessee throughout 2024, head coach Brian Callahan may be more inclined to find a quarterback who protects the ball and plays within the system than another gunslinger.

Winston has had a solid career. In 105 career games, he has completed 61.2 percent of his passes for 24,225 yards, 154 touchdowns, and 111 interceptions. He’s also rushed for 1,297 yards and 12 additional touchdowns.

Saquon Barkley: ‘This thing with me and Giants is so played out’

After catching heat for his latest comments, Saquon Barkley proclaimed that things between he and the New York Giants are “so played out.”

As if celebrating their 100th season with one of the worst years in franchise history was not enough for fans of the New York Giants to endure, they also had to watch former running back Saquon Barkley lead the division rival Philadelphia Eagles to the Super Bowl.

Barkley, of course, had one of the best seasons for a running back in NFL history and will now get set to play in his first Super Bowl.

During media day on Monday, Barkley had a viral exchange with impending free agent quarterback Jameis Winston that many viewed as the ex-Giant throwing shade.

After Barkley caught wind of the latest criticism, he shot back on X.

“I literally said dabs (head coach Brian Daboll) gonna get you right… This thing with me and giants is so played out,” Barkley wrote in the since-deleted post.

Barkley has clearly had enough of the questions regarding his former team, but this time around, it was facilitated by his own comment — whether it was intended as shade or not.

Following his departure, Barkley quickly had some regrets about how he handled his exit from Big Blue.

However, Barkley’s decision to go to the Eagles and their high-powered offense helped him put together his best season as a pro and landed him his first Super Bowl appearance.

Plenty of former Giants have come out in support of Barkley ahead of the big game on Sunday and although most fans will be rooting against the Eagles, there are certainly plenty rooting for Barkley’s success.

Jameis Winston ‘absolutely’ wants to sign with Giants

Jameis Winston “absolutely” wants to sign with the New York Giants this offseason and even accidentally referred to them as “we.”

The New York Giants are searching for a quarterback this offseason and Jameis Winston is searching for a new home. Are the two a match?

Former Giants running back Saquon Barkley certainly thinks so.

During Super Bowl LIX media day on Monday, Winston approached Barkley’s podium on behalf of FOX Sports and asked a somewhat self-serving question: “I’m a free agent, I don’t really got no job. Who’s gonna sign me in free agency?”

Barkley didn’t hesitate.

“I think New York needs a quarterback right now,” he said.

Asked to specify, Barkley clarified he meant the Giants.

Winston loves the idea, apparently.

“Would I really sign with the Giants? Absolutely,” Winston told NJ Advance Media. “I want to keep playing and do what I do best.”

Ironically, Winston even called the Giants “we” in a Freudian slip when discussing head coach Brian Daboll and his offense. Perhaps he knows something the rest of us do not.

“I have a ton of respect for coach Brian Daboll, the things he does offensively,” Winston said. “I think we have a young — woah! They have a young roster. But they have a young roster that’s ready to win. They’re ready to bounce back. I know they’re hungry over there.”

The Giants need both a veteran bridge quarterback and a young rookie to come in and learn, and perhaps Winston is that guy. He’s the anti-Daniel Jones, never fearing the 50-50 passes down the field. He’s a risk-taker but may not possess the accuracy Daboll requires.

In 105 career games, Winston has completed 61.2 percent of his passes for 24,225 yards, 154 touchdowns, and 111 interceptions. He’s also rushed for 1,297 yards and 12 additional touchdowns.
