All-American Jamari Howard, a 4-star defensive back, commits to Florida State

Jamari Howard commits to Florida State.

Florida State football landed another prime commitment in Jamari Howard. The Florida defensive back is an elite cornerback prospect, with high-end speed and athleticism.

Howard has committed to play in the 2024 All-American Bowl at the Alamodome (San Antonio, Texas). ESPN ranks him as the No. 12 cornerback prospect in the nation and the No. 119 player overall.

He plays for Norland High School (Miami, Florida).

According to 247Sports, the addition of Howard elevates Florida State to having the fourth-best recruiting class in the nation. He had been committed to Michigan State, but re-opened his recruitment in May.

He had a final five of Florida, Maryland, Michigan State and Rutgers as well as Florida State.

In an interview with On3, Howard said that he has been trending towards Florida State and head coach Mike Norvell since the summer.

“Coach Norvell is bringing Florida State back to how it was,” Howard told On3.

“And we are off to a great start, now we have to finish that way. Coach Norvell and the staff has the team doing big things and we are going back to the top.”

4-star defensive back Jamari Howard makes a top five…does Rugers football make the cut?

Rutgers football makes he final five for standout Jamari Howard.

Jamari Howard is one of the top uncommitted players in the nation. He unveiled a top five on Monday that included three Big Ten teams.

A class of 2024 recruit from Norland High School (Miami, Florida), Howard is a four-star defensive back. He announced a final five on Monday that included Florida, Florida State, Maryland, Michigan State and Rutgers.

Florida State is perceived to be the leader here for Howard.

He is a 6-foot, 175-cornerback with good range and movement. He is fluid in and out of his breaks.

A consensus four-star recruit, he is ranked the No. 112 player in the nation and the No. 12 cornerback in this recruiting class. His decision date is scheduled for Nov. 10:

Howard took an official visit to Rutgers in June.

Michigan State football: 2024 DB class appears to be complete

MSU’s DB coach Harlon Barnett and CB coach Jim Salgado did a very good job with MSU’s DB class in 2024:

Michigan State saw some change in their defensive back coaching this offseason, adding Jim Salgado as cornerbacks coach to assist with Harlon Barnett. With that change came a new spark in defensive back recruiting, along with new prospects showing up on the board, and no matter how you look at it, Salgado and Barnett hit a home run this June.

The Spartans were able to secure commitments from 4 defensive backs, while solidifying the commitment of Tennessee 4-star Jaylen Thompson.

Ultimately, it can be said that the defensive backfield recruiting has been outstanding for MSU and the Spartans may be finished with that position group in 2024.

Former Michigan State CB commit eyes fall visit with Florida football

This Sunshine State product is a bit of a long shot for the Gators but he’s still interested in what the Orange and Blue can do.

Florida football’s recruiting staff is not resting on its laurels just yet despite a top-three prospect class for the 2024 cycle. While the list of current high school players committed to the Gators is nearly full, there is still some room to accommodate a few more top recruits.

Four-star cornerback [autotag]Jamari Howard[/autotag], a former Michigan State Spartans commit out of Miami (Florida) Central, recently spoke with Swamp247’s Blake Alderman about the Orange and Blue along with his plans to get back to Gainesville this fall.

“Right now my top six should be Florida State, Florida, Penn State, Rutgers, Maryland, and Michigan State too,” he told Alderman.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 175-pound defensive back has made three prior visits to campus so far — with a fourth at the end of July getting canceled. He plans on making up for that lost time sometime this fall.

“I don’t know any games I may take an unofficial visit to Florida yet, but I know I will for sure take an official visit there. I plan on taking some official visits probably in September and then maybe after the season. I don’t have any official visits set though, but I will for sure be taking some to Florida State and Florida.”

The main point of contact between the Gators and the Sunshine State product has been cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond.

“Coach Raymond, I love Coach Raymond. He talks to me every day. He makes sure I am straight and makes sure I am doing the right thing. Training right, eating right, just living right.”

As for when the high school senior plans on making his final decision, he is showing no haste in the process.

“I am not really sure yet. It will probably be later though. Like, closer to the signing day in December. I thought I would be able to do this a lot earlier, but it’s tough. So I just want to make sure I take my time.”

Howard is ranked No. 111 overall and No. 12 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 124 and 15, respectively. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has FSU in the lead with a 30.8% chance of signing him, followed by MSU (21.6%), Rutgers (14.0%) and Miami (7.9%).

Blue-chip CB target will be in town for Grill in the Ville this weekend

This former Michigan State commit has been trending well for the Gators and will be back on campus this weekend.

Florida football is getting set to host the first edition of the Grill in the Ville event, which welcomes prep prospects from a range of recruiting classes into the Swamp to get a gander at what Billy Napier and the Gators have to offer.

While a lion’s share of the 2024 class visitors has already made their commitments to the Orange and Blue, there is still a pair who are weighing their decisions closely. Among those is four-star cornerback [autotag]Jamari Howard[/autotag] out of Miami (Florida) Central, who will be in Gainesville on Saturday, July 29.

The former Michigan State Spartans commit announced his plans for Florida’s midsummer event a couple of weeks ago. He decommitted from MSU back in mid-May and has trending upward for the Gators since.

The summer stop will represent his fourth visit to the Swamp this year with plenty of time still remaining before he intends on announcing his decision. The 6-foot-2-inch, 175-pound defensive back has made just two official visits so far with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights as well as the Spartans.

UPDATE: Howard will not be making his visit, according to On3’s Corey Bender.

Howard is ranked No. 109 overall and No. 12 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 122 and 15, respectively. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Florida State Seminoles in front for his talents with a 25.3% chance of landing him, followed closely by the Spartans (21.1%), Gators (14.4%) and Scarlet Knights (12.0%).

Rutgers football: Who are six uncommitted recruits still in the mix for the 2024 class?

Six names to keep an eye on for Rutgers football as the class of 2024 begins to wrap-up.

Rutgers football has a very strong 2024 recruiting. There is a nice balance between high-end players, projected developmental players and depth.

That last factor is key for Rutgers. Depth matters and this class has filled up in a hurry.

Heading into the midpoint of July, Rutgers football currently has 21 commits in this class. And there, is a pretty good balance, with eight offensive commitments and nine on the defensive side of the ball (four players are labeled as “athletes” by 247Sports).

With limited scholarship spots available, Rutgers might only take two or three more players.

Spots are at a premium, and given the fact that this has been a good recruiting cycle so far for Rutgers, the fact that there might be competition here to commit to Rutgers means that head coach Greg Schiano and his staff can be selective in their evaluations.

Scroll down and check out six recruits who have been offered by Rutgers football to keep an eye on over the next few weeks!

Blue-chip cornerback sets late-July visit date with Florida

This in-state blue-chipper will be cooking along with the rest of the prospects at the Grill in the Ville event.

Four-star cornerback Jamari Howard out of Miami (Florida) Central missed out on a pair of visit opportunities with Florida football back in June while the prep prospect hot stove was sizzling.

Nonetheless, former Michigan State Spartans commit has made plans to get things cooking at the end of this month for the program’s Grill in the Ville event held on July 29, according to Swamp247’s Blake Alderman.

The summer stop will represent his fourth visit to the Swamp this year with plenty of time still remaining before he intends on announcing his decision. The 6-foot-2-inch, 175-pound defensive back has made just two official visits so far with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights as well as the Spartans.

Howard is ranked No. 109 overall and No. 12 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 124 and 15, respectively. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has FSU in the lead for his commitment with a 25.3% chance of signing him, followed by MSU (22.1%), Florida (14.4%) and Rutgers (12.0%).
