Alabama’s Jalen Milroe named the most dynamic QB in college football

Jalen Milroe’s versatility is what makes the Alabama football QB one of the best players in the nation

Jalen Milroe returns as the quarterback of Alabama Crimson Tide football team for the 2024 season and looks to build upon his performance from 2023. Now, he enters the new season being praised as one of the most versatile quarterbacks in the nation.

After winning a preseason quarterback battle that featured himself, Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson, he was benched for the Week 3 road game against USF. For the rest of the season, Milroe steadily improved and now finds himself as a potential Heisman Trophy candidate for 2024.

CBS Sports recently ranked the top 10 dynamic quarterbacks and Milroe sits at the top as the most dynamic quarterback in college football.

In 2023, Milroe completed 187 of his 284 passing attempts for 2,834 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions. On the ground, Milroe accounted for 161 carries, 531 yards and 12 touchdowns.

His versatility adds an extra layer of danger to the Alabama offense that opposing defenses must prepare for.

With some improvement, Milroe will easily remain in the Heisman conversation, can lead the Crimson Tide back to the College Football Playoffs and will be in contention to be a first-round selection in the 2025 NFL draft.

Alabama QB Jalen Milroe ranks as third-biggest gunslinger in college football

Alabama QB Jalen Milroe ranked as the No. 3 “gunslinger” in CFB by 247 Sports

Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe lit the world on fire last year with his electrifying speed and ability to make anyone miss in the open field. However, the part of Milroe’s game that people forget to account for is the fact that he is an absolute gunslinger.

Describing a big time throw can be difficult, but PFF defines it as a pass with excellent ball location and timing, generally thrown further down the field and/or into a tighter window. To determine the rankings, 247 Sports sorted the Power Four QB’s by minimum by big-time throws with a minimum average depth of target of 10 yards to determine the rankings.

After all calculations, 247 Sports ranked Milroe as the No. 3 gunslinger in college football heading into 2024 saying,

“Milroe benefitted from having the longest time to throw (3.44s) in the SEC last season and ripped 27 big time throw at Alabama last season despite having the fourth-fewest attempts on any player on this list (285). After a brief benching following a loss to Texas, Milroe responded with improvements as a passer and won 10 straight starts prior to the Rose Bowl. He finished with 2,834 yards passing and 23 touchdowns to go along with 531 yards rushing and 12 scores. New Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said Milroe ‘grew leaps and bounds’ during spring practice.”

CBS Sports projects the 2025 CFP field based on post-spring top 25 rankings

Where does CBS Sports have Alabama ranked in latest CFP prediction for 2024 college football season?

For the past decade, the college football playoffs have consisted of the four best teams meeting in two national semi-finals. However, in one of the many changes coming to the sport in 2024, the most notable will be the expansion of the playoffs to include 12 teams. The hope is that the expansion will include several different fan bases as opposed to teams like Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs and Clemson Tigers dominating the competition.

While the SEC and Big Ten will still make up the majority of the teams in the field, the Big 12, ACC and the Group of 5 will have an automatic bid as well.

Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports released his post-spring top-25 after getting to see all transfers and spring games finalized and  CBS released their own projected playoff field based off his rankings. Dodd has the Crimson Tide ranked No. 5 in the country following spring ball behind Georgia, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks and Texas Longhorns. So, if the season ended tomorrow the Crimson Tide would finish No. 7 in the final playoff rankings behind those four teams as well as conference champions Clemson and Utah despite being ranked higher.

In this new era, the top four teams get a first-round bye, so the Crimson Tide would host No. 10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish in Tuscaloosa. The winner would then go on take on Ohio State in the Rose Bowl according to this simulation.

Despite the coaching change in Tuscaloosa, Alabama will be in the thick of the playoff hunt as they are every year. [autotag]Kalen DeBoer[/autotag] has already proven he can win at the highest of levels, and Jalen Milroe is arguably the best player in college football. It’s going to be an absolute blast of a season, that is for sure!

CFB expert believes that Jalen Milroe has all the tools needed to win a Heisman trophy

Alabama QB Jalen Milroe has all the tools you see Heisman trophy winners have according to PFF

In 2023, Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe finished No. 6 in the Heisman voting despite his campaign not truly beginning until Week 4. Milroe had a tough performance against the Texas Longhorns in Week 2 and didn’t see the field in Week 3 against the USF Bulls, but responded with 10 straight wins to guide the Tide to an SEC championship victory over the Georgia Bulldogs and earn a College Football Playoff semi-final Rose Bowl berth.

All five players who finished higher than Milroe in last year’s Heisman rankings were selected in the 2024 NFL draft leaving the path wide open. Milroe is one of the betting favorites to win the award right now, and PFF College Football expert Dalton Wasserman seems to share the same opinion saying, “Jalen Milroe has the entire skillset that you see win the Heisman trophy.”

Milroe has drawn a ton of comparisons to Lamar Jackson as a prospect, especially as an athlete and runner. If new head coach [autotag]Kalen DeBoer[/autotag] can help reign in his passing he will have a chance to be the best player in the country. DeBoer was a key piece in turning former Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. into a First-team All-American in 2023 and No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

Alabama and Milroe will have to navigate the change from Nick Saban to DeBoer well into the season, but with the offensive success DeBoer has had it’s fair to expect the offense will hit the ground running.

Alabama’s Jalen Milroe one of 10 SEC QB’s expected to attend the Manning passing academy

Alabama QB Jalen Milroe expected to attend the Manning passing academy this summer

After an ugly ten-point home loss at the hands of the Texas Longhorns, QB [autotag]Jalen Milroe[/autotag] lost his starting job to Tyler Buchner heading into the USF game in Week 3. With Ty Simpson waiting for a shot to play as well, there was no guarantee that Milroe would ever get his job back with the  Alabama Crimson Tide.

Fast forward three months, Milroe finished No. 6 in the country in the Heisman race and guided the Tide to an SEC championship and a College Football Playoff semi-final berth. Milroe has always been wildly dynamic with the ability to make plays with his feet, but it was his growth as a passer that changed the 2023 season for himself and Alabama.

Now, Milroe will get to work with new head coach Kalen DeBoer who just boosted Washington Huskies QB Michael Penix Jr. into the No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

It would have been easy for Milroe to walk away and give up on Alabama last year after being benched, but he dug his heels in and fought. Milroe could have transferred along with a number of other players after Saban’s retirement, but he didn’t. As a result for his willingness to take adversity head on, I think Milroe is due for a massive season.

Milroe is doing all the right things this summer as well as he will be one of 10 SEC quarterbacks attending the Manning Passing Academy this summer. It will be exciting to see what kind of draft position Milroe can play himself into this season.

Is Jalen Milroe already a consensus 2025 first-round pick?

Alabama football QB Jalen Milroe is preparing for an important 2024 season that many NFL scouts will watch.

Alabama Crimson Tide football underwent a lot of change heading into the 2024 college football season. A new head coach, a new-look SEC, a refreshed roster and an expanded College Football Playoffs. One thing that Alabama fans can count on to stay the same is stating quarterback Jalen Milroe.

The incumbent quarterback had a rocky start to the 2023 season. After competing in the 2023 offseason with Ty Simpson and Tyler Buchner, Milroe won the starting job and then was abruptly benched in the Week 3 road game against USF. He finished the season strong and is now considered a legitimate Heisman Trophy Candidate.

Though a lot can change over the course of an entire college football season, early projections for the 2025 NFL draft have Milroe being selected in the first round.

For The Win‘s latest mock draft projects Milroe going No. 8 overall to the Seattle Seahawks, Fox Sports has him being selected No. 18 overall to the Cleveland Browns and Touchdown Wire believes the Pittsburgh Steelers draft him at No. 14 overall.

There’s no telling where Milroe, or other draft eligible players will land in the 2025 NFL draft. As for the Alabama quarterback, he can turn a lot of heads and raise some eyebrows if he picks up where he left off at the end of last season and carries this revamped Crimson Tide team without Nick Saban to the College Football Playoffs to compete for a national championship.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Milroe and Alabama football news as the 2024 offseason progresses.

Where does Kalen DeBoer want to see Jalen Milroe improve the most?

Kalen DeBoer explains where he wants to see Alabama QB Jalen Milroe improve the most

When you’re the starting quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team, everything you do is put under a microscope and dissected like some strange science project. If you don’t believe me, ask [autotag]Jalen Milroe[/autotag].

Despite leading Alabama to the CFP semifinals and putting together over 3,200 yards of offense and 35 touchdowns last season, Milroe’s ability to lead the Crimson Tide program remains a question to some.

While speaking at the Regions Tradition Pro-Am on Wednesday, new Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer was asked about where he would like to see Milroe improve the most as he prepares for the 2024 college football season.

“He really came a long ways in processing, playing the game, moving the chains. And so just when he hits fall camp, I think just having 100 percent confidence in every concept we put in, especially in the first week or two that he’s had rep after rep after rep and can not just execute but also run the whole show. Just telling every guy what their responsibility is. And so it goes beyond your position, it goes on to leading the rest of the offense.”

Judging by Coach DeBoer’s comments it appears that he has faith in Milroe’s ability to play the position, it now comes down to playing with confidence, understanding the system, and leading the other 10 guys on the field.

FOX Sports CFB expert Joel Klatt releases an updated Top 25

See where Alabama football ranks in Joel Klatt’s way-too-early top 25 for the upcoming 2024 season.

The 2024 college football season will involve a lot of change for everyone,  especially for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Legendary head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] is longer in charge after announcing his retirement in January, so seeing new head coach [autotag]Kalen DeBoer[/autotag] on the sideline every Saturday will take some getting used to.

On top of that, 2024 will be the first year of conference expansion with the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners set to join the SEC as well as some moving parts in the Big Ten. Additionally, the four-team playoff has been replaced with the 12-team playoffs which will also be starting this year.

Despite all of the changes coming to Tuscaloosa, the expectations are still an SEC championship and to compete for a national title.

As spring football has officially wrapped up, FOX Sports CFB Analyst Joel Klatt released an updated top 25. Klatt ranks the Crimson Tide No. 7 in the country behind three other SEC programs (Georgia, Texas and Ole Miss).

The new coaching staff will certainly have to prove itself on the field, but Alabama has the roster to go toe-to-toe with anyone in the country. We will find out just how good this Alabama team is rather quickly with Georgia coming to Tuscaloosa for the first conference game of the year.

Quarterback Jalen Milroe is the highest returning Heisman trophy vote getter from a season ago and will have an argument as the best player in college football this year. Milroe will always have a special place in the hearts of the Alabama faithful after staying through the coaching change, but he has a chance to cement himself in Alabama history with a big 2024 season.

Steelers fill 2 major offensive needs in 2025 NFL mock draft

Here is our first too soon 2025 NFL mock draft.

Is it ever too soon to talk about the NFL draft? The ink is barely dry on the 2024 NFL draft but we already have a far-too-early 2025 mock draft to talk about.

In this three-round mock, the Steelers select Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III in the first round. Burden is a special player who reminds us a lot of a mix of Deebo Samuel and Dez Bryant. He’s got track speed, a running back’s frame and is explosive and agile after the catch.

Moving to the second round, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe was available and too good to pass up. All the Steelers current quarterbacks are on one-year contracts this year so don’t be shocked if they don’t prioritize the position. Milroe is a remarkable athlete with a powerful arm and tons of potential.

Moving to the third round, we went with Georgia defensive tackle Nazir Stackhouse. We love his size, power and leverage and want to see him lined up inside next to Keeanu Benton.

This would be a fun draft for the Steelers future, especially to see what the coaches can do with Milroe. Pittsburgh hasn’t properly addressed wide receiver this offseason so we are all for Burden being the pick.

Jalen Milroe selected first overall in 2025 NFL mock draft

Alabama QB Jalen Milroe is the first overall pick in one way-too-early 2025 NFL mock draft.

Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe returns for the 2025 college football season and is looking to not just lead the team back to the College Football Playoffs, he wants to work his way into the Heisman Trophy conversation and boost his 2025 NFL draft grade.

While the 2024 NFL draft just recently concluded, experts and analysts have already begun looking ahead to see how the 2025 first round might turn out.

One mock draft done by The Draft Network projects Milroe will be the first player selected, going first overall to the Carolina Panthers, which is interesting for a variety of reasons.

Milroe is not a player that has a unanimous first-round grade for the 2025 draft. Though he has appeared as a Day 1 pick in some mock drafts, he has some improving to do before cementing himself as a clear first-round player.

The Panthers had the first overall selection in the 2023 NFL draft and used it to pick up former Alabama quarterback Bryce Young.

Though no rationale is presented with the projection, we are left to assume that The Draft Network believes Carolina is already in a position to move on from the former Heisman winner and could look to replace him with his former backup.

There’s no telling what will happen in just under a year from now, but Milroe could very well play his way into contention to be the first overall pick.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Milroe and other Alabama players as they prepare for the upcoming 2024 college football season.
