Ohio State basketball will need to replace seven members of its roster for the upcoming season. The Buckeyes have the No. 5 ranked class in the nation and the best class in the Big Ten according to 247Sports. With only five freshmen signed in the class, it leaves room to explore the transfer portal for potential proven help.

One such player may be West Virginia sophomore, Jalen Bridges. Bridges is a former four-star prospect and was ranked in the top 100 in the class of 2020. The West Virginia native chose his home state Mountaineers where he has played the past two seasons, starting 52 of 61 career games.

In year two with Bob Huggins, Bridges averaged 8.4 points per game and 4.8 rebounds. He’s also an excellent shooter from the free-throw line at over 80 percent.

While a commitment hasn’t been made, Bridges looks like he had an excellent visit with the OSU coaching staff on Wednesday. The Buckeyes are firmly in the mix and would be a solid addition for Chris Holtmann.

Bridges reportedly has a top four of Ohio State, Michigan State, Alabama, and Baylor.

REPORT: Michigan State basketball listed as a finalist for West Virginia transfer Jalen Bridges

Michigan State basketball is reportedly one of four finalists for big-time West Virginia transfer Jalen Bridges

Michigan State basketball is reportedly one of four finalists for big-time West Virginia transfer Jalen Bridges.

24/7 High School Hoops reported on Monday that Bridges has narrowed his list of schools to Michigan State, Alabama, Baylor and Ohio State. He also has already had an in-home visit with the Spartans.

Bridges started 52 of his 61 career games for the Mountaineers, where he averaged 7.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. This past season he averaged 8.4 points and 4.8 rebounds, and had nine double-digit scoring performances.

Bridges plays small forward and would be a big lift for the Spartans who will need to replace senior Gabe Brown on the wing. Brown announced this past week that he will forgo his extra year of eligibility and enter the NBA Draft.

5 names Dana Altman and the Ducks should pursue in the transfer portal

The Oregon Ducks roster is currently in flux, but should they pursue the transfer portal here are five early names to consider.

Dana Altman and the Oregon Ducks are heading into an offseason with a lot of uncertainty surrounding the current roster. Today’s transfer portal era, along with the added year of eligibility for many players due to COVID-19, makes it very difficult to get a sense of what next year’s roster will look like.

Is Will Richardson going to return for one more go-round in Eugene? Will N’Faly Dante test out the draft waters? Will transfer talents like De’Vion Harmon and Quincy Guerrier look elsewhere after missing out on the NCAA Tournament? What about bench players like Franck Kepnang, Rivaldo Soares, and Nate Bittle?

At this point, the only roster change known for coach Altman’s squad is that  big man Isaac Johnson has entered his name into the transfer portal. Until there is a firm update on guys like Richardson, Dante and others, it will be hard for this team to seriously investigate the talent available on the transfer portal.

However, the Ducks could absolutely use the portal to their advantage again this offseason, like they’ve done with guys like Harmon and Guerrier.

So, while we don’t know exactly where Oregon’s needs will be next season – and we’ve only seen a small handful of players enter the portal – this is far from a comprehensive list of players Oregon could try to get in the green and yellow next year.

Instead, this is just a look at one player at each position who would be a good fit in Eugene next year – should Altman and company have a need at that spot:
