Oklahoma Sooners vs. Notre Dame: How to watch, stream, listen and key players of College World Series

The Oklahoma Sooners face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in their second game of the men’s College World Series and here’s how you can tune in.

Oklahoma received contributions from just about everyone in its 13-8 win over the Texas A&M Aggies. In the opener, the Sooners had six players with an RBI and nearly every batter reached base.

Jake Bennett was solid on the mound, even if he allowed four earned runs. The runs came on two home runs, which were two of his four hits allowed. Bennett didn’t walk a batter and had three strikeouts.

With David Sandlin’s appearance in the seventh inning, presumably, Cade Horton will get the ball for Oklahoma on Sunday night against the Fighting Irish. In his last three starts, he has allowed five earned runs in 17.2 innings pitched. In those three games against Texas, Florida and Virginia Tech, Horton struck out 25 and walked five.

He’ll need to be good again on Sunday because Notre Dame comes in with some strong pitching of its own.

The Oklahoma Sooners got off to a great start in their 13-8 win over Texas A&M in the Men’s College World Series.

They struck first with a run in the top of the first inning and then exploded for seven runs in the second. Oklahoma manufactured runs with great baserunning, patience at the plate, and using the long ball to put away their former Big 12 and future SEC foe.

In order to win the College World Series, you almost have to win the first game in the series. It isn’t often that a team comes out of the loser’s bracket to win the whole thing.

Oklahoma will now face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish after they defeated the Texas Longhorns 7-3 in the second game on Friday. But before we begin looking at the Irish, let’s take a look at some of the best photos from Oklahoma’s 13-8 win over the Texas A&M Aggies.

Sooners open College World Series with 13-8 win over Texas A&M

A seven-run second inning and grand slam from Jackson Nicklaus in the fourth propelled the Oklahoma Sooners to a 13-8 win in their College World Series opener over Texas A&M.

Making their first appearance since 2010, the Oklahoma Sooners wasted little time making their presence felt against future SEC foe Texas A&M. The Sooners jumped out quick with a run in the first and seven in the second to go on to a 13-8 victory over the Aggies in game one of the Men’s College World Series.

The Sooners got off to a great start, putting pressure on Texas A&M from the opening frame.

John Spikerman led off the College World Series with a walk. Peyton Graham fought off an 0-2 count to slap a single to right field, moving Spikerman to third.

Blake Roberson followed that up with a fielder‘s choice to short to get the scoring going.

Pitcher Jake Bennett started hot as well, retiring the Aggies in order in the first.

And the the fireworks started. Jackson Nicklaus earned a one-out walk and Kendall Pettis reached on a hit by pitch with two outs in the inning. Spikerman then reached on an infield single before Peyton Graham got the bases loaded walk to make it 2-0.

Robertson singled to score Pettis and Spikerman and Tanner Tredaway drove in Peyton Graham from second.

Still with two outs in the inning and two on, Jimmy Crooks stepped to the plate and crushed a three-run homer to make it 8-0 before the end of the second inning.

Still early in the game the Aggies would get a three-run homer to cut the lead to five.

Heading to the top of the fourth and looking to get some momentum back, the Sooners loaded the bases for Nicklaus who deposited the offering into the right field seats for the grand slam to make it 12-3.

The Aggies again rallied in the seventh off  of David Sandlin for five runs on four hits to make it a 12-8 ball game.

Trevin Michael came in with one out and runners on the corners and allowed both of the inherited runners to score before shutting the door in the seventh. Skip Johnson relied on Michael’s arm the rest of the way as the Sooners’ closer pitched the final 2.2 innings to seal the victory for Oklahoma and put them into the winner’s bracket of the Men’s College World Series.

Michael allowed just one hit and one walk in the 2.2 innings pitch and recorded three strike outs to close the door on Texas A&M.

Starter Jake Bennett pitched six innings, allowing five hits, two of which were home runs, four earned runs, and struck out just three Aggies on the day.

Robertson went 2-for-4 with two walks and an RBI from the lead off spot and Tanner Tredaway was 3-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored. Oklahoma registered seven RBIs with two outs and forced Aggie pitching to surrender 10 walks on the afternoon.

Oklahoma now awaits the winner of Texas vs. Notre Dame, potentially setting up some Red River drama in the winner’s bracket if the Men’s College World Series.

Oklahoma Sooners vs. Texas A&M: How to watch, stream, listen, and key players of College World Series opener

The Oklahoma Sooners open the College World Series Friday against the Texas A&M Aggies, and here’s how you can check out the action.

The Oklahoma Sooners return to the College World Series for the first time since 2010. Riding the wave as one of the hottest teams in baseball over the last few months, the Sooners have erupted for incredible offensive performances and received timely pitching from their staff.

On Friday, they take on the Texas A&M Aggies in their opener in the College World Series. The Aggies hold a 42-18 record and went 19-11 in the SEC, finishing atop the SEC West.

The Sooners’ former Big 12 foe and future SEC opponent advanced to the College World Series after winning the College State regional and beating Louisville in the Super Regional, which was also in College Station.

Oklahoma’s road to the College World Series was a little more tenuous. First they advanced through the Gainesville Regional after beating regional host Florida twice. They then went on the road again to face No. 4 seed Virginia Tech and took two of three.

Skip Johnson’s crew has been battle-tested and has faced every situation over the last few months. Their run of five straight series wins, a Big 12 tournament title, and advancing to the College World Series reveals a team that’s been playing their best baseball and shouldn’t be counted out against anyone.

If the Sooners can get solid pitching from their staff, the offense should be able to take care of the rest.

Sooners one win away from Omaha after 5-4 win against Virginia Tech

Kendall Pettis had a big day to help the Sooners win game one of Super Regionals against no.4 Virginia Tech.

With the move to a stronger conference seemingly moving closer and closer, the Oklahoma Sooners are but one win away from the College World Series after beating Virginia Tech 5-4 in game one of the Super Regionals.

The Sooners jumped out to an early lead in the first inning on a Blake Robertson RBI single to bring in John Spikerman. In the second inning, Kendall Pettis and Spikerman brought in a run each to give the Sooners an early 3-0 lead.

Pettis hit another RBI single in the sixth inning to bring in what would end up being the game winning run.

Jake Bennett started on the mound, and held the No. 4 Hokies scoreless through five innings. While the Hokies did score four runs off of Bennett, three of them were unearned. Bennett struck out eight through seven innings. Trevin Michael worked two scoreless innings for the save.

Michael was untouchable, striking out four through two innings. The Hokies didn’t get a single baserunner against Michael.

OU hasn’t made it to Omaha since 2010. A win tomorrow will secure the program’s first College World Series birth in over a decade and perhaps continue a very magical championship run.

The Sooners and Hokies will play game two tomorrow at 11 a.m. on ESPNU.

Meanwhile, the Texas Longhorns are one game away from elimination after losing game one of their Super Regional against East Carolina.

Sooners move on to Big 12 semifinal after Bennett’s gem start

Jake Bennett threw 7.2 innings of two hit, one run ball and the Sooners move on to the Big 12 semifinal after defeating Texas Tech 6-3.

There was yet another late rally by the opponent, but after a phenomenal start by Jake Bennett, the Sooners held off the Texas Tech Raiders and won 6-3. OU will move on to the Big 12 semifinal to face the winner of the Texas Tech-Kansas State game. The Raiders and Wildcats will play on Friday and the winner of that game will play the Sooners on Saturday.

Redshirt Sophomore Jake Bennett pitched an absolute beauty. 7.2 innings of two hit, one run ball. The lefty gave the Sooners the pitching they needed to upset the 2-seed Red Raiders and move on with that loss still in their back pocket if they end up needing it.

Tech scored their only run off of Bennett in the third inning off of a sacrifice fly. A ninth inning rally saw the Red Raiders hit a two-run home run off of Oklahoma’s Trevin Micheal, but it was too little too late for the Raiders to come back tonight.

Jackson Nicklaus went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs and Peyton Graham weren’t 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Sooners offensively.

While the team has looked very good so far, the back-to-back late game rallies by West Virginia and Tech should be cause for concern. OU’s bullpen has been an issue all season and it could be what costs them the conference title.

TCU still has to play Oklahoma State on Friday to earn their spot in the semifinal to play the Texas Longhorns. The Sooners need one more win. One more to earn a chance to play for their first Big 12 title in nearly a decade.

Oklahoma Sooners ace Jake Bennett named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

After dominating Kansas State with 11 strikeouts, Oklahoma’s Jake Bennett was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week.

No pitcher in the Big 12 had more strikeouts than Oklahoma’s ace Jake Bennett did last week. Bennett was rewarded with the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week award after his seven-inning outing against the Kansas State Wildcats.

Bennett was nothing short of dominant against the Wildcats, throwing seven shutout innings with 11 strikeouts in OU’s 14-2 win.

The Sooners’ ace has been a steadying presence on an Oklahoma pitching staff that is still struggling to find consistency, particularly in the bullpen.

The tall sophomore now sits at 4-2 on the season with a 3.29 ERA for the crimson and cream. OU now has back-to-back series wins in Big 12 play.

The Sooners will have Bennett back in action against the TCU Horned Frogs as OU travels to Fort Worth to take on the second-place team in the Big 12. Their three-game series will begin on May 6.

Oklahoma is currently fourth in the conference. A series win here could be enough to jump third-place Texas Tech, depending on how things go in the Red Raiders series against conference leader Oklahoma State.

The Sooners still have a series against Texas Tech on the schedule this season. Those games will be huge for conference tournament positioning when the two teams meet in Lubbock.

Sooners outlast No. 4 Oklahoma State 8-7 in a thrilling Bedlam victory

After being down in the top of the ninth, the Sooners scored 2 runs and close the door on the Cowboys to secure a win on Friday.

Oklahoma baseball is beginning to find its stride in the 2022 regular season.

After a mid-week get-right game against Oral Roberts, the Sooners ventured into the proverbial lion’s den for the first time this season. They traveled to Stillwater for their first true road game in 2022 and came out on top 8-7 after trailing 7-6 entering the top of the ninth inning. A back and forth affair saw the Sooners come out on top against their in-state rivals and a top-five team to pick up their third big-time win in the last couple of weeks.

Sooners’ ace Jake Bennett hit the bump for the Friday start of a three-game series. While he made it through five innings, he gave up eight hits and 7 runs on 95 pitches. He battled, but the offense kept the Sooners in the game until the bottom half when the Oklahoma State Cowboys broke it open with four runs. Griffin Doersching highlighted the scoring with a two-run double to give the Cowboys a 7-4 lead. the Cowboys the lead 7-4.

 

The Cowboys wouldn’t score again as the Sooners’ bullpen allowed just two hits and two walks over four scoreless innings. With the bullpen slowing down the Oklahoma State offense, the Sooners would begin to chip away at the lead.

Jackson Nicklaus would begin the comeback bid with an RBI single followed by a controversial two-out RBI base hit from starting catcher Jimmy Crooks to cut the lead down to just a run at 7-6. The hit was initially ruled the liner an out before a review overturned the play allowing one run to score. The Sooners ended the inning down a run with just six outs at their disposal.

Two scoreless innings by lefty pitcher Carter Campbell kept the Sooners within one run and gave them a shot with their backs against the wall in the ninth to continue their comeback bid.

Blake Robertson delivered a game-tying double-off sophomore Trevor Martin and Jimmy Crooks was intentionally walked to set up a potential double-play. Sebastian Orduno had other ideas and drove in the game-winning RBI shortly after.

Trevin Michael allowed a single in the ninth came in to close the door but left it open after giving up a single in the ninth. In the end, one of the stars of the game delivered another play to push them over the edge.

Oklahoma State’s Zach Ehrhard attempted to steal second, but Jimmy Crooks called game, throwing out the would-be tying run to cap off an incredible comeback win in Bedlam.

The win pushes the Sooners to 18-10 on the season and 4-3 in conference play. They’ll lace up their cleats again tomorrow in game two at 8 pm.
