Alabama beats Arkansas by 1 in close game in Coleman Coliseum

The Crimson Tide gets it done at home in 68-67 win over Arkansas.

The Crimson Tide came off their best performance of the year against the Ole Miss Rebels on Wednesday evening and didn’t falter in a home matchup against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday afternoon.

The Tide shot 43% from the field and went 7-29 from three-point range. JD Davison led Alabama in scoring with 11 points. Jaden Shackelford had 10 and Noah Gurley had nine in the Tide’s 68-67 win over the Hogs at home in front of a packed house.

Despite 24 turnovers, Alabama came out on top in a game that came down to the last possession.

Arkansas shot 31% from the floor and hit on just six of 21 outside jumpers.

Next up for Alabama is a home game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Wednesday.

JD Davison could prove to be Alabama’s key to a late run

Alabama’s JD Davison could help give the Tide the boost they need here late in the season

What a roller coaster of a season it has been for Nate Oats and the Alabama basketball team. They have incredible wins over Gonzaga, Houston, and Baylor, but also have head-scratching losses to teams like Missouri and Georgia.

The three-point shooting has simply not been there for the Tide, especially as of late, but on Wednesday night, the team seemed to find its stroke against the Ole Miss Rebels. A big part of Alabama’s success against the Rebels was due to the play of true freshman guard JD Davison who finished the contest with 18 points, 8 assists, and 3 rebounds while connecting on 7 of his 8 shot attempts.

The outstanding play of Davison shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise, the kid was a five-star recruit who, like the team as a whole, has just been a little inconsistent in his first season in Tuscaloosa. But Davison’s play could prove to be the tipping point for the year’s Alabama basketball team.

In the Tide’s last three wins, Davison is averaging 16 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. And in the last three losses for Alabama, Davison is only averaging 4 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds.

Receiving more consistent production from Davison would take a lot of the pressure off fellow backcourt members Jahvon Quinerly and Jaden Shackelford.

Hopefully, Davison and the rest of the Tide can continue its hot-shooting when Alabama takes on Arkansas back in Coleman Coliseum on Saturday morning.

Alabama stomps Ole Miss 97-83 in Oxford

Alabama stomps Ole Miss 97-83 in Oxford

Nate Oats and the Alabama men’s basketball team dominated the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford to the tune of 97-83 on Wednesday night.

Alabama caught fire from the field led by Jaden Shackelford’s 30 points on eight of thirteen from three. As a team, the Tide connected on 14 of its 22 three-point attempts.

Jahvon Quinerly distributed the ball well for the Tide, finishing with eight assists. True freshman JD Davison came alive for 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 8 assists off the bench,

Another player worth noting is true freshman Jusaun Holt who played extremely well on the defensive end of the floor for the Tide.

The Rebels were led by senior guard Jarkel Joiner who finished with 33 points in the contest.

Hopefully, the Tide can carry over the hot shooting into Saturday against the Razorbacks who are coming off a big win over top-ranked Auburn.

Alabama can’t get it done against No. 5 Kentucky at home

The Tide couldn’t get it done at home, losing to No. 5 Kentucky 66-55

Nate Oats and his Alabama men’s basketball team will drop to 4-6 in SEC competition this season after a 66-55 loss to Kentucky at home. The Crimson Tide was hoping to avoid going two games below .500 in a key home game inside Coleman Coliseum on a Saturday evening.

The Tide couldn’t buy a three-pointer in this game against No. 5 Kentucky, their second home game against a top-five team in seven days (Alabama won the first last Saturday against Baylor).

It was ugly offensively from the start as the Wildcats defense left more than a dozen guys wide open for the Tide, but the shots just weren’t falling. Alabama went just 3-30 from 3PT range. Three-pointers weren’t the only shots missing for the Tide, however, as they went just 28% overall from the floor.

Charles Bediako looked good in the first half, but with three fouls early in the second half, he was rendered ineffective through much of the closing half. He led the Tide in both scoring and on the boards with 12 points and eight rebounds.

The talented backcourt consisting of Jaden Shackelford, Jahvon Quinerly and JD Davison combined for just 19 points, with just one three-ball dropping for the trio with Davison tallying the only one.

Kentucky had five players in double-digits with freshman TyTy Washington leading the way for the Wildcats with 15 points. Oscar Tschiebwe tallied 10 points but recorded another double-double by pulling down 15 rebounds.

Kentucky shot 40% from the floor and went 4-11 from deep as the Wildcats will improve to 19-4 on the season and 8-2 in conference play.

The Crimson Tide dropped to 14-9 on the campaign and 4-6 in SEC play.

Next up for Alabama is a road game against Ole Miss in Oxford on Wednesday night.

Alabama hoops drops second game to Auburn in 100-81 loss; falls to 4-5 in SEC play

Alabama couldn’t get it done against Auburn

Nate Oats said that he wanted his Alabama team to start having fun again. The Crimson Tide definitely had fun in the big win over Baylor on Saturday, but in the Iron Bowl of Basketball, it wasn’t fun for anybody wearing crimson.

Auburn‘s Walker Kessler blocked seven shots in the Tigers’ big 100-81 win against the Tide, he also recorded 14 points and 12 rebounds.

When all hope appeared to be lost, the Tide would bring the deficit to within two in the second half, prior to a 10-2 run giving the Tigers an eight-point lead.

From there, the onslaught only got worse for Alabama. Auburn’s talent was too much to overcome.

Jaden Shackelford scored 26 points in the loss. Jahvon Quinerly contributed 20. Alabama shot just 35% from the floor and a decent 37% from three.

The Tide defense was outmatched at seemingly every position. Auburn hit on nearly half of their shots, shooting at a clip of 48% from the floor.

Auburn made a decent living on the free-throw line as they shot from the charity stripe 39 times and made 31 of them.

Next up for Alabama is a home game against the No. 5 Kentucky Wildcats.

Alabama basketball just outside of AP Poll; big games this week can push them back in

While they’re not in the AP Poll today, the upcoming schedule provides ample opportunity for Alabama basketball to climb back up.

While Alabama fans are surely very pleased with the result of Saturday’s home win over the Baylor Bears, I’m sure they’re also wondering just what the deal is with this Crimson Tide basketball team.

Days after suffering their worst loss of the Nate Oats era against Georgia last Tuesday, the Tide defeated then-No. 4-ranked Baylor in front of the biggest (and perhaps loudest) crowd to watch a basketball game in the state of Alabama this season inside Coleman Coliseum.

While the win was fun to obtain and much-needed, it has left Alabama fans confused. Why can they beat the top teams in the country, yet lose to mediocrity in the fashion that they have this season? I don’t have the answers, but I do have hope.

I hope that the win over the Bears revitalizes the Tide, and I hope that they can demonstrate some consistency, something that has been severely lacking this season.

A solid test is approaching quickly. This week, the Crimson Tide will play two top-five teams consecutively. First, Alabama will travel to near-Georgia for the second of two matchups against the No. 1 Auburn Tigers this season on Tuesday, with the previous matchup ending in a close 81-77 loss for the Tide in Tuscaloosa in mid-January.

On Saturday, Alabama will return home to host the No. 5 Kentucky Wildcats, who jumped into the top-five after complete and utter domination of what many consider one of the best teams in basketball, the Arizona Wildcats.

Many thought that the Tide would reenter the AP Top 25 after the big win over Baylor, but clearly, the voters are holding the Georgia loss with more weight than the five wins against AP top-15 opponents this season.

Alabama did, however, obtain 97 points in the poll, which was the most among unranked teams, barely missing out on the top 25.

Plenty of opportunities remain for the Tide to reclaim their rightful position within the AP Poll, but it doesn’t really matter, anyways.

All Oats needs to do is keep his playmakers ready and the team in pristine condition for a tough stretch of games and the rest will work itself out in time.

Alabama defeats 3rd Final Four team of the year; upsets No. 4 Baylor 87-78

Alabama has now defeated three of last year’s Final Four teams in the NCAA Tournament.

Alabama fans, rejoice, exactly what the Crimson Tide needed to happen happened this afternoon.

Alabama defeated the No. 4 Baylor Bears on Saturday afternoon in their third win over a 2021 Final Four team this season.

Coleman Coliseum was as loud as its ever been in the win and certainly played a large part in Alabama’s win over the Bears.

The Crimson Tide took the lead with 17:30 remaining in the first half, just two and a half minutes into the game, and never relinquished it. Alabama led throughout the game in a dominant 87-78 win.

The Crimson Tide led by as many as fifteen points in the fifth win they have tallied against ranked competition. Alabama is now 6-4 in Quad 1 matchups, as ranked by the NCAA’s NET rankings.

Nate Oats’ squad shot 59% from the floor and went just 7-21 from three-point range. They were a solid 22-for-26 from the foul line in what was one of their better free-throw shooting performances of the season.

Jahvon Quinerly led the Tide in scoring in what turned out to be a rebound game for him after suffering a slump that began in January. He tallied 20 points and recorded five dimes on the day.

Jaden Shackelford followed with 19 points of his own on 5-of-12 field goals. JD Davison had an explosive performance while recording 14 points and going an impressive 6-of-9 from the floor.

Shackelford also led the Tide in rebounding with nine boards. Overall, Alabama won the battle on the boards with a 29-25 edge.

Next up for the Crimson Tide is a trip to The Jungle in Auburn to take on Bruce Pearl – who just signed an eight-year extension to remain an Auburn Tiger – and his No. 1 ranked squad.

Crimson Tide leading No. 4 Baylor at the half 38-34

The Tide are leading in a tight game over Baylor at the half!

The Alabama basketball team must have heard the noise outside prior to the tipoff of this game against No. 4 Baylor because right now they’re playing like one of the best teams in the country.

The Crimson Tide has shot 52% from the floor and is 3-13 from three-point range through one half in this matchup of the Big 12 / SEC Challenge.

Jahvon Quinerly is leading the Tide in points, finally appearing to have gotten out of his own head. He has 12 points, three assists and a rebound so far.

J.D. Davison and Jaden Shackelford have seven and six points, respectively, rounding out the backcourt and contributing plenty to the Tide’s four-point lead at the half.

Shackelford has added five rebounds to his stat line as well.

Baylor shot 45% in the first half and is 4-8 from the 3PT line.

Alabama has taken seven shots from the free-throw line and has hit all of them, while the Bears are 10-13 from the charity stripe.

Each team has turned the ball over eight times.

5 bold predictions for Alabama vs. Baylor

5 bold predictions for Alabama vs. Baylor

Nate Oats and the Alabama men’s basketball team have a massive matchup with the No. 4 Baylor Bears this afternoon inside of Coleman Coliseum. The outcome of this matchup could prove to be a pivotal moment for the Tide this season.

Alabama is coming off maybe its worse loss of the season to SEC bottom-feeder Georgia on Tuesday night and that makes today’s contest all the more important. If Alabama can find its way back into the win column today against the defending national champs, it could give the Tide the confidence boost they will need for the remainder of the conference slate.

While we await tip-off, let’s take a look at five bold predictions for today’s matchup with the Bears.

Alabama MBB comes from behind to take down Missouri at home 86-76

Alabama exacts revenge on Missouri in 86-76 home win against the Tigers.

Everything looked bleak for the Crimson Tide at one point during this SEC game tonight against the Missouri Tigers.

The doubt would soon be erased, however, as Alabama went on a big run in the latter half of the second half, overcoming a 14-point deficit to beat the Tigers by a score of 86-76.

Alabama shot just 43% from the floor and 33% from 3PT-range. Jaden Shackelford’s 21 points and seven rebounds helped the Tide overcome a slow start. Jahvon Quinerly tallied all 13 of his points in the second half to propel Alabama to the much-needed SEC win. JD Davison scored 17 and hit three out of four three-pointers.

Missouri hit 47% of their field goals, including 45% from three. Perimeter shooting is a weak spot for the Tigers, yet in both matchups against the Tide they lit it up from beyond the arc.

Jarron Coleman led Mizzou in scoring with 17 points. Forward Kobe Brown was much better neutralized by Nate Oats’ defense this time around than last and only managed six points, but brought down 10 boards.

The Crimson Tide improves to 4-3 in SEC play and 13-6 overall.

Missouri drops to 2-4 in SEC competition and 8-10 overall.

Next up for the Crimson Tide is an away game at Georgia to face off against the 5-14 Bulldogs on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. CST.
