Texas A&M vs. South Carolina injury report: Latest updates, news for Week 10 matchup

Here is the first availablity report for Texas A&M and South Carolina ahead of Saturday’s Week 10 matchup

10th-ranked Texas A&M will head to Columbia (SC) to face one of the toughest SEC defenses in the country, as South Carolina brings constant pressure in the trenches due to the play of defensive ends Dylan Stewart and Kyle Kennard.

One of the primary reasons this game presents a big challenge on paper for the Aggies is A&M’s recent performance in pass protection in Saturday’s win against LSU, as starting quarterback Conner Weigman faced an overload of pressure before being benched in favor of backup Marcel Reed.

On Wednesday, head coach Mike Elko stated that he would continue to evaluate the quarterback position ahead of the matchup, providing both Reed and Weigman equal practice reps this week to determine the final choice.

Injury-wise, the first SEC Availability Report was released on Wednesday night. Texas A&M’s roster looks to be in great shape outside of starting left guard Chase Bisontis, who will miss at least the next two weeks due to a lower-body injury.

As of Wednesday, here is the latest SEC Availability report ahead of Saturday night:

Texas A&M injury report

  • Rueben Owens – RB (Out for the season)
  • Mark Nabou – OL (Out for the season)
  • Tyreek Chappell – DB (Out)
  • Chase Bisontis – OL (Out)
  • Jahdae Walker — WR (Out for first half)
  • Jaylen Henderson — QB (Questionable)

South Carolina injury report

  • Jakai Moore — OL (Out)
  • DeAndre Jules — DL (Out)
  • Jared Brown — WR (Probable)

OL Chase Bisontis injury update

After sustaining a lower-body injury against Mississippi State, Mike Elko stated on Monday that Bisontis will miss “a couple of weeks,” which is very good news for the Aggies, who will be on their second bye week after facing South Carolina on Saturday.

WR Jahdae Walker’s update

Jahdae Walker shouldn’t have been suspended for the first half of Saturday’s game after what was flagged as a blindside block and targeting against an LSU wide receiver during the Aggies’ 31-6 second-half run against the Tigers. Still, alas, he will be available after halftime.

Texas A&M will travel to Columbia to face South Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 2nd, at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on either ABC or ESPN+.

Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman earned impressive PFF grade against Missouri

Conner Weigman was borderline perfect against the Tigers

Texas A&M (5-1, 3-0 SEC) enters the first of two bye weeks this season just a day after demolishing the 9th-ranked Missouri Tigers 41-10 on Saturday afternoon, led by the return of quarterback Conner Weigman, who had missed the last three games.

After returning to practice last week, head coach Mike Elko was coy regarding Weigman’s potential return to the lineup. Backup quarterback Marcel Reed earned a perfect 3-0 record in his absence. However, his accuracy in the pocket had become an issue in the last two games.

Listed as a game-time decision, Weigman was seen throwing with the first-team offense, as Elko revealed just minutes before kickoff that the redshirt sophomore would start his first game in nearly a month, leading to one of his best performances of the year.

Looking supremely confident from the first snap, Weigman’s footwork resulted in several impressive NFL-level throws in tight windows. At the same time, the deep pass was finally utilized to perfection to pick up chunk gains and open up the running game.

While he didn’t throw a touchdown pass, running backs Le’Veon Moss and Amari Daniels did enough on the ground in the red zone to produce all five Aggie touchdowns, as Weigman finished 18/22 for 276 yards, completing 82% of his passes. Per Pro Football Focus, Weigman earned a team-high 86.7 offensive grade, including an 88.6 passing grade, ranked top-10 nationally in Week 6.

Interestingly, Weigman utilized his legs more than expected, running for 33 yards on five carries and earning a notable 70.3 run grade.

With the bye week approaching, Elko and his staff will focus on recruiting. At the same time, Weigman and the rest of the roster will rest and recuperate ahead of the second half of the season, starting with a Week 8 road matchup against Mississippi State.

Texas A&M’s uniform against Missouri has been revealed

Here is the uniform combination Texas A&M will go with vs. Missouri

Texas A&M (4-1, 2-0 SEC) will head back to Kyle Field for the fourth time this season. On Saturday afternoon, the Aggies will host the undefeated Missouri Tigers (4-0, 1-0 SEC) as both teams look to earn their first significant wins this season.

For the Tigers, who are coming off their bye week at the perfect time, this will be the first true road test of the season, while the Aggies are less than a week removed from their 21-17 win over Arkansas inside AT&T Stadium.

This week, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko noted the Aggies’ progress over the past three games but is well aware of the work ahead. At quarterback, redshirt freshman Marcel Reed is slated to make his fourth consecutive start of the year, even though Conner Weigman returned to practice this week in limited fashion.

While Reed needs to improve his accuracy, Texas A&M’s defense will need to make a similar impact to what we saw against the Razorbacks, especially junior defensive end Nic Scourton, who recorded two sacks and four tackles for loss in his best game.

Uniform-wise, Missouri will reportedly wear all whites, while the Texas A&M media team has announced that the Aggies will go with the all-maroon look for the first time this season. Here’s the video featuring senior wide receiver Jahdae Walker.

Texas A&M will host Missouri on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11:00 a.m. CT. The game will air on ABC and will be available for streaming on ESPN+.

Instant reaction to Texas A&M football’s 26-20 win over Bowling Green

Texas A&M came away with a victory in a game that was hard fought until the final play

Texas A&M (3-1, 1-0 SEC) narrowly escaped Kyle Field with a 26-20 win Saturday night against a highly competitive Bowling Green Falcon (1-2) team.

The Aggies came out blazing on the first drive of the game, marching down the field and converting third and fourth downs, which ended in a 27-yard touchdown to Theo Melin Ohrstrom. From there, it was tough sledding for the rest of the first half, with both defenses limiting any big plays.

Both teams traded punts and field goals as time winded down for a 10-3 score as Texas A&M took a slim lead into the locker room. Following halftime, Bowling Green scored on a 65-yard touchdown pass to star tight end Harold Fannin Jr. after the kick-off went out of bounds to start the half. That led to an exciting third quarter where they exchanged scores to go into the final quarter with the Aggies up 20-17.

The Falcons, having all the momentum and only down three, took advantage of a missed field goal to kick their own and extend the lead to 23-17. The Aggie defense stiffened up, only allowing a late field goal in a game that was too close for comfort.

The Aggies’ next game is against Arkansas at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX, on ABC on Sept. 28.

Watch Texas A&M’s Week 4 game trailer ahead of facing Bowling Green

Here is a Jahdae Walker narrated game 4 trailer ahead of Texas A&M’s Week 4 matchup vs. Bowling Green

Texas A&M (2-1. 1-0 SEC) is headed back to Kyle Field for a Saturday night showdown vs. Bowling Green (1-1), who is coming off a bye week after falling to Penn State 34-27 back in week 1.

The Aggies entered last weekend with plenty on the line while dealing with significant adversity after starting quarterback Conner Weigman was sidelined due to a shoulder injury revealed later in the week, vaulting backup dual-threat signal caller Marcel Reed into the lineup.

Reed looked like a seasoned veteran in his first career start, throwing for 178 yards and two touchdowns while racking up 83 rushing yards and a score. However, A&M’s running game stole the day. The offensive line played with consistent physicality, opening up running holes that led to 310 yards on the ground.

The Falcons present another challenge for A&M’s shaky but improved run defense. Head coach Mike Elko will not announce Saturday’s starting quarterback until moments before kickoff. However, Texas A&M’s media team provided an exciting game trailer narrated by senior wide receiver Jahdae Walker to watch ahead of what should be an entertaining matchup.

Texas A&M will host Bowling Green on Saturday, Sept. 21. The game will be available to stream on ESPN+ and SEC Network+.

Updated injury report following Texas A&M’s win against McNeese State on Saturday

Texas A&M’s 52-10 win over McNeese State resulted in a mostly healthy roster heading into next weekend

Texas A&M’s week 2 52-10 victory over McNeese State also served as the first win for new head coach Mike Elko, as last weekend’s disappointing loss to Notre Dame didn’t look any better after the Irish fell to Northern Illinois a week later.

Nevertheless, The Aggies looked like the team we all thought they were entering the season, scoring on eight consecutive drives for the first time since 2011.

Starting quarterback Conner Weigman looked much better after his career-low performance against Notre Dame, but still only threw for 125 yards and two touchdowns in just two-quarters of play due to the large advantage. However, the redshirt sophomore made better decisions, and his accuracy and usually impressive touch returned to their regular form.

Before the game, it was reported that linebacker Scooby Williams and running back EJ Smith would sit out for undisclosed reasons. At the same time, senior wide receiver Jabre Barber returned to the lineup.

During the game, senior wide receiver Jahdae Walker injured his hand and, for precautionary reasons, was held out of the game but should be good to go for the Florida game. One name to keep an eye on is defensive end Enai White, who will reportedly stay on the sideline until further notice as he continues to rehab.

Senior WR Moose Muhammad III featured in our Texas A&M Countdown to Kickoff

Senior WR Moose Muhammad comes in at No. 6 in our countdown to the 2024 season opener vs. Notre Dame

The countdown to Texas A&M’s 2024 season opener against Notre Dame is nearing single digits.

Ten days remain before the 7th-ranked Fighting Irish head to College Station for a primetime showdown. New Aggies head coach Mike Elko has completed the long journey to accepting the position, going through his first offseason, and finishing his first fall practice period with the team this month.

Aggies Wire will focus on one player daily for the next ten days, ranking the Top 10 players on the 2024 roster. Coming in at No. 6 on our list, senior wide receiver Moose Muhammad III enters the most important season of his playing career.

Inconsistency has been an issue since he stepped on campus, but many of these problems can be blamed on former head coach Jimbo Fisher. Fisher simply mismanaged his usage rate, resulting in a lack of on-field confidence. Still, Muhammad’s elite route-runner traits, paired with his impressive athleticism and playmaker mentality, make him a valuable member of the 2024 offense.

While the wide receiver depth chart is all but set, Muhammad has practiced with both the first and second-team offense this fall but is expected to return as the starting slot receiver ahead of facing Notre Dame.

Thomas Shea-USA TODAY Sports

Muahammad’s production dropped from 610 receiving yards and four touchdowns during the 2022 season to just 27 receptions, 345 receiving yards, and two touchdowns last season. Quarterback injuries paired with poor game management certainly played a large part in Moose’s sudden disappearance.

For Texas A&M’s offense under new OC Collin Klein to be successful, Muhammad must make a similar impact to his impressive play during the 2022 season, providing starting quarterback Conner Weigman plenty of reliable options through the air.

White helmets unveiled by Texas A&M football team only 5 days after revealing black jerseys

Whether if it’s an alternate or one-off, the Aggies will have a new look this season and another piece of the ensemble was revealed Tuesday.

Whether if it’s in alternate capacity or just a one-off, the Texas A&M football team will have a new look at times this season and another piece of the ensemble was revealed this week.

The Aggie football social media team revealed white helmets on Tuesday night, only five days after unveiling all black jerseys with white lettering. Junior quarterback Conner Weigman and senior wide receiver Jahdae Walker were among the Texas A&M players spotted wearing the white helmets with a maroon face mask.

What could be next? Black pants with a maroon stripe? Or perhaps a white stripe down the side of black pants? We all are anxiously waiting to see more.

Back in May, Aggies Wire ranked helmets in the SEC from worst to best. Bias aside, Texas A&M finished with the top spot. So now after adding a slick alternate cap, the Aggies appear to have a stranglehold on that position.

Texas A&M WR Micah Tease continues to impress during the end of the fall camp

Could Micah Tease become a key contributor in the passing game this season?

Texas A&M’s fall practice period is coming to an end, as head coach Mike Elko and his staff are currently hosting the team’s 14th practice on Saturday afternoon, as the season opener vs. Notre Dame is exactly two weeks away with plenty of hype.

While progress has been made this month, several players on offense and defense have consistently stood out, including starting quarterback Conner Weigman, junior defensive end Shemar Stewart, and most surprisingly, sophomore wide receiver Micah Tease, who only recorded 19 yards on two receptions during his 2023 freshman season.

With new OC Collin Klein now running the offense, the departure of speedy WR Evan Stewart, who transferred to Oregon this offseason, has left many of us wondering which receiver on the roster can match Stewart’s top-end speed to put pressure on the secondary.

So far this month, Tease has been paired with former Louisiana Tech WR Cyrus Allen, who has stood out as a potential solution to the issue. He has already made several big-time receptions, run fluid routes, and consistently shown off the deep speed that made him a Top 150-ranked recruit in the 2023 cycle, receiving offers from numerous blue-blood programs.

On paper, junior wide receivers Noah Thomas and Jhade Walker have likely secured starting spots, while fellow junior wideout Moose Muhammad III is battling with Cyrus Allen and Tease to fill out the rest of the rotation.

Texas A&M WR Jahdae Walker is entering the 2024 season with clear momentum

Texas A&M WR Jahdae Walker is looking to capitalize on his 2023 success this season

Texas A&M’s 2024 roster is stacked with talent, yet it has yet to reach its full potential. New head coach Mike Elko knows that the players he inherited ahead of his inaugural season were truly a gift, starting with redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman.

However, who he’ll be throwing to is another question, as the Aggies’ wide receiver rotation is equally talented but relatively unproven after the departure of Ainias Smith to the NFL and former 5-star WR Evan Stewart, who transferred to Oregon this offseason, needing several returning names to step up this season.

While junior Noah Thomas and senior Moose Muhammad III are consistently singled out due to their previous recruiting prowess and impressive traits, former Grand Valley State product Jahdae Walker was by far the most consistent receiver on the roster at the end of the 2023 campaign.

After Conner Weigman’s injury, former backup QB Max Johnson relied on Walker to move the chains consistently. Walker finished the year with 100-plus yard receiving performances, 590 receiving yards, and two touchdowns.

Standing at an impressive 6-4 and 205 pounds, Walker’s quickness, soft hands, large catch radius, and, most importantly, overall toughness have made him a reliable target for Weigman during fall camp and has likely solidified a starting spot in the wide receiver rotation.

What’s even more impressive is Walker’s ability to immediately connect with all three quarterbacks last season, including sophomore QB Marcel Reed, who found Walker throughout the night for eight receptions and 137 yards in A&M’s loss to Oklahoma State in the TaxAct Texas Bowl.
