Social media reacts to Jaden Greathouse touchdown before halftime

Nice response to adversity.

After [autotag]Spencer Shrader[/autotag]’s 56-yard field-goal attempt hit the upright, Notre Dame got back on defense against NC State. The possession was a disaster as one penalty after another played a major role in the Wolfpack scoring their first touchdown of the day. Needing a big offensive play before halftime, the Irish got it on a 65-yard pass from [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag] to [autotag]Chris Tyree[/autotag]. One play later, Hartman hit [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag] from 12 yards out for a big score:

Just when it seemed like the Wolfpack were going to go into the locker room with all the momentum, Hartman took control of the situation in a collected manner. The result is the Irish had a 17-7 halftime lead. That’s what you want to see in a leader, and Hartman is one of them. Of course, Greathouse had to make the play, and he’s shown he’s good at that, too.

Five questions Notre Dame needs to answer to defeat NC State

What do you need to see the Irish do to defeat the Wolfpack?

For the first time all year, the competition level for [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag] is closer for everyone to really get an idea of how good this team really is.

After trouncing Navy and Tennessee State, the Irish have to hit the road for the first time this year (I know the game against the Midshipmen wasn’t in South Bend, but it was still considered a home game) to face NC State.

The Wolfpack present different problems that Notre Dame will have to solve on Saturday morning. Here are five questions that the Irish will have to answer for them to come out with their third win to start the season.

Notre Dame statistical leaders through two games

Here’s who to watch against NC State.

Notre Dame dominated its first two opponents in Navy and Tennessee State. Some might be wondering if a challenge will show up anytime soon. We’ll see if one exists when the Irish travel to NC State for their first true road game of the season. Here are those most likely to push the Irish over the top, specifically those who lead the major statistical categories:

Notre Dame statistical leaders through one game

The first of many updates this season.

Notre Dame looked like a team that was ready for the season against Navy. Hardly any weaknesses were on display. Now, we get to see if the Irish can repeat that performance or at least mimic it in their home opener against Tennessee State. To get you started for the week, here are the team’s statistical leaders after the first game:

Social media reacts to Jaden Greathouse’s second touchdown catch

Another score.

Scoring a touchdown in your first collegiate game is great. Scoring two in that game is a real thrill.

Notre Dame freshman Jaden Greathouse can make that claim after receiving another touchdown from Sam Hartman, this one from 20 yards out. The Irish have a touchdown on each of their first five possessions, thus increasing their lead over Navy to 35-0:

With little reason to believe the script of this game will be flipped, the second half figures to be nothing more than a showcase for how good this year’s Irish can be. They’ve dominated this one from the beginning, and while it wasn’t unexpected, it nonetheless feels great to witness. Those who made the trip overseas will tell you it was money well spent.

Even with the outcome likely decided, people still took to social media to talk about each touchdown. Here’s what they had to say about the latest one:

Social media reacts to Hartman’s first TD pass to Greathouse

The newbies are doing work.

It was only a matter of time before [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag] threw his first touchdown pass in a Notre Dame uniform. Sure enough, it happened in the second quarter of the season opener against Navy. Some people might have expected it to go to one of the Irish’s more experienced receivers. Instead, it went to true freshman [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag] from 35 yards out, and it extended the Irish’s lead to 21-0:

People might have expected the Irish to blow out the Midshipmen, but it’s unlikely many expected so many first-year players to make such an impact in the first half. We already saw it with [autotag]Jadarian Price[/autotag] scoring his first touchdown. Now, we’re seeing it through the air. It’s a sure sign that this season will be different from the last one.

Social media was ripe with conversation about this latest Irish score. Check out some of the best tweets related to it:

Notre Dame football releases its depth chart ahead of season opener vs. Navy

Not much to see but more than a few true freshman show up for the Irish

As [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag]’s social media account reminded us this morning, it’s game week.

With that comes the Irish releasing their depth chart against [autotag]Navy[/autotag] in Dublin, Ireland. There aren’t too many surprises, but having four true freshman in the two-deep is interesting.

Linebacker [autotag]Drayk Bowen[/autotag] and cornerback [autotag]Christian Gray[/autotag] have impressed the coaches enough to warrant early playing time on defense. As for the offense, two receivers, [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag] and [autotag]Rico Flores[/autotag], have also made early marks and will see the field in their first year.

Another true freshman, running back [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] was included, but he’s bracketed with two other teammates and behind starter [autotag]Audric Estime[/autotag] and backup [autotag]Gi’Bran Payne[/autotag].

247Sports has one Notre Dame player on its preseason freshman All-American team

This player should see the field early and often with a big impact

The 2023 cycle was the first full one for [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag], and he signed a very good class.

The group of 23 players was ranked No. 12 on the 247Sports team composite. One of those players, wide receiver [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag], made its preseason freshman All-American team.

Although the 6-foot, 2-inch and 220-pound Texan wasn’t the highest commit of the class, he is expected to have an early impact. Greathouse had a very impressive senior season. He gained 915 yards on 51 receptions with 10 touchdowns.

So far the early practice reviews this fall have been fantastic, and the freshman is expected to play early and often.

Chris Hummer, who compiled the list thinks “at worst, a lock to be a big part of Notre Dame’s rotation at wide receiver. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to see Greathouse emerge quickly.” The hype is real.

247Sports believes this Notre Dame true freshman will have a impact this year

The Irish have a lot more talent at this position this fall

If there is one position that [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] needs to see much more production from, it’s at wide receiver.

The recent lack of success at the position is troubling, but a number of factors can be attributed to the issues. First off, quarterback play has been so-so, but with the addition of Wake Forest transfer [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag], that looks like it won’t be a problem this fall.

The focus on the ground game also held back the group, but having a quarterback who can stretch the field vertically won’t make the running the ball as much of a focal point this fall.

Another reason is talent and 247Sports believes that true freshman [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag] has skill in abundance and was chosen as a first-year player who will make an impact this fall.

The Texan brings some needed size at 6-foot, 2-inch and 220 pounds and versatility. Chris Hummer, who wrote the article says Greathouse “can play outside as a big vertical receiver and can work inside as a big slot.”

Hummer also singles out fellow receiver [autotag]Rico Flores[/autotag] as another who could not only see the field early but make a contribution. It all goes back to finding talented players and so far the early returns from head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag]’s tenure is exactly that.

247Sports thinks this Notre Dame player created a lot of buzz during the spring

The sky is the limit

When quarterback transfer Sam Hartman committed to [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag], the question of who was he going to throw to was passed around.

Plenty of names were suggested but one, [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag], wasn’t really mentioned. Much of that was due to many of us not knowing how good the early enrolling freshman was, but after the spring we all know who he is.

It’s not just Irish fans that noticed, 247Sports did as well, with Greathouse being named as one of eleven players across the county who generated substantial buzz after spring practice.

The Texas native entered the program with high expectations, but those rose significantly following an extremely impressive spring. Their national analyst Blake Brockermeyer called Greathouse a “sure-fire year 1 contributor.”

Following a huge Blue and Gold game, the hype for Greathouse has continued and many, including myself, think he has the potential to be the next great Irish receiver.
