Georgia RB Andrew Paul announces transfer destination

Georgia football running back Andrew Paul announces Conference USA transfer destination

Georgia Bulldogs running back Andrew Paul entered the transfer portal after having an impressive spring with Georgia. Now, Paul has announced his plans to transfer to the Jacksonville State Gamecocks.

Paul previously visited the Michigan Spartans on April 20, so it is a bit of a surprise that he opted to transfer to Jacksonville State. Paul should be set to receive a ton of carries are Jacksonville State.

Paul put together a strong performance in Georgia’s spring game, recording four carries for 44 rushing yards. We projected Paul as Georgia’s No. 3 or No. 4 running back before he left the Bulldogs.

Paul, a former three-star recruit, was expected to receive carries as part of Georgia’s running backs rotation. The Dallas, Texas, product accumulated 129 rushing yards and a touchdown on 29 carries in 2023. Paul missed the 2022 season with a torn ACL and is finally looking healthy.

247Sports ranks Andrew Paul as a three-star transfer. He is ranked as the No. 684 player in the transfer portal and the No. 62 running back.

Rich Rodriguez coached Noel Devine at West Virginia. Now he’s recruiting his son, Andre Devine

Noel Devine’s son is getting recruited by his former college coach.

It is hard to believe that 17 years have passed since Noel Devine became the first football recruit of the modern era to go viral. And now Devine has a son who is being recruited by Rich Rodriguez at Jacksonville State.

It was Rodriguez who landed Devine at West Virginia as a five-star recruit in the class of 2007.

Devine’s highlight tape out of Fort Meyers High School (Fort Meyers, Florida) was the first to take the internet truly by storm, a combination of pure speed and cutback moves that made every single touch of the ball a highlight play. It was football’s answer to the And1 mixtape, with play after play showing Devine blowing past would-be tacklers.

One move, two moves and was through their grasp and into the open field. On some plays, he was barely touched.

In what was still the nascent days of high school football recruiting coverage on the internet, Devine’s film was arguably the first to go viral.

He would go on to play four seasons at West Virginia and was getting Heisman buzz ahead of the 2010 season. In 2011, he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles.

And now, his son was at Jacksonville State this weekend, on a recruiting trip where he was getting recruited by Rodriguez.

Andre Devine is a class of 2024 running back out of North Fort Myers High School (North Fort Myers, Florida).

He has an offer list that includes Florida Atlantic, Marshall, UMass and West Virginia among others.

James Madison and Jacksonville State earn bowl berths after all, despite NCAA eligibility rules

James Madison and Jacksonville State are IN.

James Madison won’t need to take legal action against the NCAA after all.

Following the final week of regular-season football, the Dukes will in fact be able to play in a bowl because not enough teams crossed the six-win threshold to fill the 82 bowl spots.

JMU (11-1), as well as Jacksonville State (8-4), were previously ineligible for a bowl due to being in their second years of transition from FCS to FBS. After a 10-0 start, the Dukes requested an NCAA waiver for bowl eligibility, but it was denied, prompting the Virginia Attorney General to threaten legal action. After losing its first game last week, JMU decided not to follow through on the threat, but kept it open as a possibility. Now, those plans can now be scrapped altogether. Both teams are in.

This is great news for those teams and their fans, though it won’t likely make people feel any better about the two-year grace period that will remain in place for future teams making the leap.

Delaware vs Jacksonville State FCS Playoff Game Preview

Why Delaware Will Win

It wasn’t pretty, and it wasn’t easy, but Delaware (6-0) was able to push past Sacred Heart 19-10 with a great day from the defense, two takeaways, and just enough offensive production when the opportunities were there to get by.

This is a much, much stronger Blue Hen offensive team than it showed against the Pioneers.

The offense only generated 202 yards and the passing game didn’t do anything down the field, but as the team showed all season long, it was great in the turnover margin – +1 against Sacred Heart – the pass defense was a wall, and the No. 2 scoring D in all the FCS allowed just ten points.

Consider it a positive that Delaware wasn’t anywhere close to being as good as it normally is and still won. But …

Why Jacksonville State Will Win

The Jacksonville State (10-2) offense has the pop and firepower to push the Blue Hens. No one’s been able to do much with the passing game against the Delaware secondary, but the Gamecocks are terrific in pass protection, balance out the offense, and the ground game can pick up the slack if nothing is happening through the air.

The Jacksonville State O line controlled everything against Sacred Heart, the offense was balanced, and there wasn’t any issue in the 49-14 blowout despite having the ball for fewer than 20 minutes. The time of possession battle usually doesn’t matter to the Gamecocks, but they should be able to control the clock a bit better against Delaware.

The JSU D didn’t come up with any takeaways – that’s not normal. It’s great overall defensively, the offense catches a few breaks thanks to a slew of takeaways, and …

What’s Going To Happen

Be slightly stunned if this isn’t a defensive fight.

Jacksonville State might have a fantastic offense, but the Delaware D is the real deal and won’t let this get out of hand. The Gamecocks will have a bit more offensively – the running game should be okay – and the defense will keep the Blue Hen ground attack in check.

Jacksonville State vs Davidson FCS Playoff Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the FCS Playoff go to BetMGM

Why Davidson Will Win

No one does a better job of keeping the chains moving.

Davidson (4-2) leads the FCS during this spring session in third down conversions, hitting on 56% of its chances thanks to a running game that leads the nation averaging 293 yards per game to go along with a passing attack that takes advantage of its chances down the field.

The Wildcats want to run and keep on motoring with Tyler Phelps a dangerous dual-threat quarterback who knows how to keep it all going.

However …

Why Jacksonville State Will Win

Jacksonville State (7-2) has one of the nation’s best run defenses.

The line is aggressive, the linebackers get all over the field, and the D has allowed just 2.6 per carry and 81 yards per game. Davidson is a different animal with what it does on the ground, but JSU has a running game, too.

The Gamecocks have a balanced offense, but it’s able to average 194 rushing yards per game with several options who can get moving to go along with a dangerous downfield passing game.

What’s Going To Happen

Davidson has one trick that it does really, really well, but production-wise, Jacksonville State has the ability to match yard for yard and do a bit more defensively.

The Gamecock D is great on third downs, and the Wildcat D isn’t. Davidson won’t be able to control the clock and the game like it’ll want to.

Jacksonville State (1-0) vs Tennessee State (0-1) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the FCS, go to BetMGM

Why Jacksonville State Will Win

The Gamecocks have the talent to hit the ground running.

It’s an experienced bunch with the star power and running game to take over and go on a great run. It all started with a 27-10 win over Tennessee Tech thanks to 274 yards on the ground and a D that held on in the second half.

The Tennessee State defensive front was gouged in the 27-20 loss to Austin Peay, giving up long run after long run to Brian Snead, who took off fo 227 yard sand three scores. Jacksonville State has the ground game to keep on pushing. However …

Why Tennessee State Will Win

As bad as the Tennessee State defense was, the team was still in the game after a good late run. The Titans got down 20-0, but former Marshall QB Isaiah Green was solid, the D tightened up, and the team got back in it.

Jacksonville State was helped by five takeaways in the win over Tennessee Tech, but it also turned it over three times. As long as Tennessee State doesn’t start making a slew of mistakes, the passing game should be good enough to stay in this.

FCS Football Schedule & Predictions: Week 3

What’s Going To Happen

Neither team was particularly sharp in the respective openers, but Jacksonville State has the talent and skill level to be far better far faster.

The Tennessee State defensive front still has to prove it can hold down a running game.

Tennessee Tech (1-0) vs Jacksonville State (0-0) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Tennessee Tech Will Win

In a slightly cathartic win after a brutal offseason, Tennessee Tech managed to come up with 17 fourth quarter points in a thriller of a 27-21 win over Austin Peay.

The Golden Eagles struggled offensively, but they forced four takeaways, controlled the clock, and took advantage of every opportunity.

And they got in a game of work.

For what it’s worth, Jacksonville State is coming in without a warm-up and the Golden Eagles at least have something to work off of. There’s a decent group of skill guys who should be able to rise up and do a lot more as the season goes on, but …

Why Jacksonville State Will Win

156 yards. That’s how many Tennessee Tech came up with against Austin Peay.

The running game didn’t go anywhere, the passing attack struggled, and while the team didn’t have far to go on a few scoring drives, it’s not like the O worked.

Jacksonville State has the passing attack that should be okay from the start, it should have one of the best offenses in the OVC, and if it can get out to a hard start and make the Golden Eagle press, they should be okay.

What’s Going To Happen

The Jacksonville State running game should take over early on, but can the team avoid the turnover bug that killed Austin Peay? Giveaways and turnover margin were a big issue for the 2019 Gamecocks, but the offense will overcome a few turnovers that keep Tennessee Tech in the game.
